Really great spot! Burgers - very good. I've had the Burger Stand Special and had the bigger DuMont Burger and while they were both good, I think the DuMont is the move. The Burger Stand special is truly top quality for the price, but it's a little small and doesn't come with fries. Mac and cheese - this is the best part by far. Crazy mix of nice cheeses, it comes with BACON, and they broil the top so you get EVEN MORE CHEESE. So, so, so good. My sister's favorite mac and cheese in all of New York, so that's saying something. I've eaten it both in the restaurant and with takeout and both times it was awesome. Drinks! Delicious but expensive! I had one with lemonade in it (though I can't remember what it was called) and it was great. read more

Dear DuMont Burger, I want you inside me. Uhhh...I mean, strictly in the digestive way. I know that I have gotten around, tasting other burgers, but I really think you are the one. You are so juicy, and tender and BIG- I like 'em big. The way you wear that brioche bun with your no-frills lettuce, tomato, onions and not-from-a-jar pickles... it makes my mouth water just thinking of you. I also like when you bring a large heaping of your friend french fries around with you, for added pleasure. I also love how cool you are when I want to hang with your other delicious non-meat friends, like chickpea burger and mac n' cheese. At DuMont Burger the other night, I watched a couple next to me share a plate of mac & cheese, but not finish it. When the waiter came to clear it, I literally--LITERALLY--thought for about 1.5 seconds about offering to finish it for them. And I totally would have, because I have a solid immune system and am not really afraid of germs, and because the DuMac is quite possibly the best mac & cheese in BK after Jack the Horse. However, a little voice inside me declared that in modern civilization, it is really not OK to finish a stranger's food, no matter how delicious you know it would be, and no matter how slim your chances are of catching something. The DuMont burger is good but not great, and is $4 more than Royale's, which is better anyway. The fries, however, are first rate. They've got a cute little cocktail list, and when I ordered a Dark & Stormy I was given the entire bottle of ginger beer along with my drink--a nice touch. If I'm in the area, I'll probably never say no to eating at DuMont Burger, but at the same time I'll probably never say yes to it if I'm not. read more

While I still hate being "THAT" guy, the burgers here are fantastic. Despite the price I find myself eating here when I'm in the area. Additionally, for cheapskates like me, they now offer a $9.50 mini-burger. At 5 oz. it's not that "mini" and as tasty as the 8 oz. burger. I gave up on restaurant burgers for a long time. I used to be a professional cook, and became very good at making burgers. This lead me to notice that most places suck at them. They're very simple, and simple is much easier to mess up than complicated. There are a lot of things that can wrong with a preparation of a burger, and there are ways to correct these problems (DuMont does NOT do these awful things): 1) The Burger is too round. What the eff? I don't want a meatball. This can be avoided by creating a deep indent with your thumb in the center of the burger patty immediately after it is placed on the grill. 2)The Bun: A. If the bun is larger than The Burger. This trait is particularly irritating and common if combined with the Meatball-style burger. This can be completely avoided if the burger patty, when raw, is molded completely flat, and about a 1/3 of an inch thick*. Yes the thing looks like a pancake, but a burger, when cooked, bunches up and becomes smaller. The thumb-indent technique is no longer necessary if this technique is used. B. There shouldn't be any bread left over, and I shouldn't feel like I just ate a loaf of it. The best burger I've ever had was a cheddar burger on a portuguese muffin with horseradish sauce. The muffin was small, and complimented, not ENGULFED the burger. Anyway. 3) The Burger isn't seasoned, which is to say, there was no salt and pepper placed on the raw meat before it cooked. If this is the case, it's just the tip of the iceberg of what goes on in that kitchen. You're probably in a TGIF or some shit or an ethnic restaurant that offers a burger to try to appease Americans. Leave immediately or stick with the specialty cuisine. There's no excuse for under seasoning. 4) The Burger bun is sopping wet with disgusting juice. This is what happens when the burger goes straight to bun from the grill,and left to sit in a window. The burger should be allowed to rest for a few minutes after cooking before placement on the bun, thus letting the juices redistribute and flow out as needed. 5) The Burger is dry as shit. A burger cooked well-done needn't be dry if cooked properly. You know the grill cook you see in the open kitchen who always flipping the burger and squeezing it and pressing down on it with his spatula? Yeah, DON'T DO THAT. It also helps if the cook knows his temperatures, so he doesn't leave it on the grill til just before burnt. (As a side-note, turkey burgers are also usually dry, which can be remedied by mixing some chopped raw mushrooms to the burger patty. While The Burger cooks, the moisture in the mushrooms is released into the burger. Much better.) 6) Toppings. A. The cheese isn't melted. The cheese should not go on the burger after it is cooked. B. The lettuce, onion, tomato, pickle. All should be sliced very thin to allow for maximum exposure of toppings to Burger. You know the age-old problem of One Tomato Not Enough, Two Tomatoes Too Many? That is how this is avoided. Also, I don't want the Iceberg or Romaine heart. No one does. I could go on (soggy pickle on the side, don't refry the fries), but this covers the basics. DuMont burger seems to follow all my rules quite well, and probably does them better, as I have been out of the cooking-professionally loop for a few years. I heartily recommend this burger. * Also this can be avoided by buying pre-made burgers, as they are formed perfectly. They must be of the utmost quality, however, and an 80/20 meat-to-fat ratio is recommended. read more

I love this place. Tons of reviews already, so I'll just give a list of pros - and cons (yes, there are some, despite my 5 star rating - their good stuff is _that_ good). Pros 1) Kitchen is open late (2am, I think) 2) Thick, juicy, and cooked to order - most places overcook their burgers, but Dumont will serve up yours exactly as requested. And their bun won't get all soggy and fall apart in your hands. Not that there's anything wrong with licking your fingers clean, I just dislike soggy bread... 3) "Mini" size for those with undersized stomachs (or for those gluttons who want a burger with their mac and cheese) 4) Mac & cheese - amazingly rich, plenty of gruyere cheese and bacon, and perfectly browned on top. A must try. Cons 1) I think the place holds a total of 20-22 people, so at peak times, expect to wait. A long time. Delivery takes a while (45 mins - 1 hour at peak times). Pick-up is a good option (15-20 mins) 2) The onion rings - batter is too bready and there's too much of it. Fries are better, but occasionally over-fried. 3) Salad (alternative to fries and onion rings) is a little uninspired - some mixed greens and dressing - no other veggies mixed in for texture or anything. Fucking Shit! This place kicks ass! Here's the play-by-play: We arrived around 8:45 pm. It's small, so go with a party of four (max). We had five, but the hostess was eager to accommodate us and took a drink order. I started with a Stella ($6) - no big deal. Whatever. We were seated within 15 minutes and that's when it got real. I'm not too big on pickles. I never liked them as a kid and just recently started eating them here and there. But, the Fried Pickles ($5) are awesome! You get spicy mayo to dip 'em in, too! Then a friend suggested I try a signature cocktail called "the John Daly." I'm not sure why I've gone thru life without trying one of these magnificent drinks before- because they fucking rule! I will never drink anything else, again. I guess there are a few different ways of making them. DuMont opts for the whiskey version, instead of the vodka version- and thank Jeebs they do, because it's gosh-darned invigorating! Sure, they're ten bucks($10) a pop, but that plus a beer is really all you need to get a good buzz going. In the most timely manner, our entree's arrived. I ordered the Dumont Burger with Onion Rings ($12.5) and it also kicked major ass. I ordered it medium and it came slightly medium-rare, but I wasn't complaining- because it was freaking delicious! I threw on the red onions, lettuce, tomato and a glob of ketchup. That's when the Missus suggested I top the whole glorious mass with one of my deep-fried onion rings. After stressing that she not tell me what to do, I took her advice and created one awesome taste sensation. Do your burger as I did mine and you'll be begging for my address so you can send me luxurious gifts (or liquor for making additional John Daly's). Some Jesus-look-a-like we had with us ordered the mac'n'cheese ($10) and that shit ruled too! This place was on fire! Not literally. By "on fire" I mean that they were consistently serving up great drinks, appetizers and entrees much like Reggie Miller consistently served up 3-pointers during his NBA heyday. There's bacon in the mac'n'cheese! Real Bacon, too. None of that Bacon-bit trash. After that, my church friends and I downed about 6 more John Daly's each and then we piled in the Suburban and drove to our homes on the Upper East Side. Since moving to New York I have noted the presence of a hell of a lot of delivery men on bicycles. Delivery men in Brooklyn are what spotted mice are to the Royal Tennebaums. They don't serve any real purpose; they're just always around. Well, that was before I experienced the joys of having a cheeseburger delivered to my door! Oh sure, I've had delivered pizza and Chinese, but this was so decadent. I was having one of my 'girl' cravings and it was effin cold outside. Burgers: Killer. Especially with cheddar cheese and mushrooms. Whoacakes. DuMac and Cheese: Actually the best mac and cheese I've ever had. No lie. Fried Pickes: A MUST! Fries: Yummy in my tummy. Pumpkin Alcoholic Shake: Seriously? Yum. Service: Hit or miss. The first time I went, I sat at the bar and had a very attentive server. The second time, it took us forever to get anything - even just a water refill. Overall, I like this place a lot. I prefer sitting outside, and I also tend to order the mini-burger, because it's extremely filling (even though it seems small - it is deceptively packed with meat!), and allows me to eat other things (such as friend pickles). DuMont was the perfect place to duck into on a cold, rainy day in Brooklyn during a recent visit. As soon as we stepped in, we felt cozy and, more importantly, ready to eat! The place is tiny with just a few seats, and a couple tables out front (though no one in their right mind would eat out there on the day I went!) Luckily on a weekday for an early lunch it was nearly empty. Our food came out quickly and it was delicious. I had the classic burger and fries. I agree with the others that it's not a huge portion, but it certainly filled me up! I feel like we received a more limited menu than what's now posted on the website... I certainly didn't remember seeing crispy baby artichokes or a cheese board, as are advertised on the site. Maybe they have a limited menu on weekday lunches? One of the highlights were the house-made pickles that they served on the side... something about homemade pickles just taste so much better! The burger was $14 which is definitely steep, but maybe I was just in vacation mode or appreciating the cozy ambiance so I didn't flinch at it. My husband had a more disappointing experience. He saw the salmon special on the board outside for $16 and we both assumed it would be a big hearty salmon burger, but instead it was just a tiny piece of grilled salmon with a curry soup on the side. Very sad and not worth it for the money we paid, though the fish tasted fresh enough. I'd definitely choose the burger over that! Your onion rings still blow my mind, but the bun you use for the mini burger is a sad half-measure (it looks like it was pulled off of the Hostess bread clearance shelf--deflated and slightly squashed). The first time it happened, I thought "maybe it's a mistake, maybe they ran out of buns and had to run to the bodega." We showed up towards the end of the night so that might have something to do with how long we had to wait. We got our burgers medium, but it seemed to take forever for them to arrive. In the meantime, we enjoyed some good music and some reasonably priced beers. I'm not sure why their tables are so small. The outside seating is nice during the warmer months but my fries were literally falling on the floor. The Burger was good but could have been better for $15. Your burgers make me long for meaty goodness....so much in fact, I broke my red meat rule and went twice this weekend! Saturday and Sunday nights - Both nights enjoying the delectable mini burger with caramelized onions. Sunday, having the luxury of eating with my parents, we all got burgers + an order of their amazing onion rings and finally....for dessert.... mini dumac and cheese! Awesome spirally pasta with bitter-gooey cheese and thick bacon chunks. Absolutely worth getting fat for. Don't let the word "mini" steer you to think that either the dumac & cheese or burgers claiming this title are small. They are actually the perfect size to be slightly over satiated. Through the recommendation of another foodie, I popped in here on a Monday evening around 9pm or so and found this place comfortably full. We posted up at the bar and our bartender/waiter was ok for the most part. He didn't seem like making small talk but was attentive if we needed something. Getting to the food, we tried the fried pickles (doughy batter and crunchy as I had hoped) to start which were a good starter. I had to go for the dumont burger (bacon cheeseburger cooked medium, ended up more on the rare side) that was large and in charge, flavorful with a large side of fries that was also ok for the most part. After a beer each and tax and tip, this was fairly priced for what we ordered. Overall, the experience was very casual and the joint is tiny but welcoming and worth a try if you are in the area, but I wouldn't travel for it. Buon appetito. read more

There have been rumors runnin a'muck about this place and I will not validate them by addressing them but will just say that they aren't true. They can't be! Maybe I'm just in denial, but I aint ever been sick from eating here, which I do often because I live across the street. The mini burger is just perfect for my smaller appetite and doesn't break the bank at $9 including fries/onion rings. I order medium rare every time and its always the perfect temp. The fried pickles were a little too greasy last time I ate them, but were perfect the time before, so I'll have to do a 2 out of 3 and get back to you. And ohmygawd I almost forgot about the mac n cheese! How is that even possible? Its so effing good, all baked to perfection with delicious thick bacon. It's just as good as the mac at the 'real' Dumont but less expensive. Do yourself a favor and order the White Russian milkshake, despite teh $12 price tag. Its to die for and you'll get a nice buzz on. Much more impressive than the 'insert any bottom shelf liquor here' and 'insert any run of the mill mixer here' you pay the same amount for in Manhatty. I came here as part of a sociological investigation of Williamsburg hipsters, and to eat a burger. Dumont Burger did not disappoint on either count. Our server was wearing an army-green jumpsuit - not a fashiony version of a jumpsuit, more like what a mechanic wears. With short white boots. It looked insane. The clientele was a pleasant mixture of people, even a couple of people over 40. I was in the mood for a burger so my friend and I stopped by. It was 6 o'clock on a Monday evening and didn't have many customers. We sat right at the bar and were handed menus. The food here is fine - solid burgers and mac and cheese. The fries are pretty great. No complaints there. But we've had major repeated issues with delivery: Ordered mac and cheese without bacon, and got it with. Not a big deal, it happens! Called and they sent a replacement. Wrong size. Got it right the third time thankfully. This would still be ok if it happened once. But ordered the same thing a few months later, and again got with bacon. Called and they sent a proper replacement pretty quickly. What was really impressive was that they called and insisted we return the original (which we had taken a few bites out of, not thinking there would be any bacon in it - crazy people that we are). Didn't quite understand that, but DuMont still insisted, claiming that we'd just gotten a "free order." Pretty unpleasant experience sadly. Definitely wouldn't recommend this place for burgers. The atmosphere here isn't meant for a sit down meal, unless you come here alone. I came here with three other friends and we were all very uncomfortable. The fried pickles were not that great, Mac and cheese was okay. The burger I ordered had a peppercorn dressing; my first bite I felt the peppercorn was way too overpowering. Also our waitress gave us an attitude when we wanted to split the bill on a few cards. Holy jesus. I am something of a burger snob. There are very few places that really can have amazing burgers in the correct environment -- and this is one of them. Forget the fact that it has a typical Williamsburg darkly-lit-with-chalkboard aesthetic. Forget that it's on Bedford. Forget that it's one of those places that, having been around for a few years (before the "renaissance" really began in earnest), you would expect to have been good-for-the-time-but-not-really-that-worthy-now. This place has amazing burgers and fries, and I would gladly travel wherever for one of these. The beer selection is good, the burger selection is great, they really know what medium-rare means, they put parsley in the fries (!!!), and... well... It's not just great-for-brooklyn, but it's great overall. The mac and cheese is godly, too, even if it's nowhere near vegetarian. I recently had the opportunity to eat the chicken sandwich, which I would never normally get (but it was the doctor's orders), and that, too, blew my pants off. These are, hands down, the best burgers I have ever had. And I'm not somebody who loves burgers, so you're gonna have to do right by that piece of meat to impress me. The menu is brief and rightly so. They do a few things and they do them very well. Great for a late night bite. They have burgers, turkey burgers, donuts, and other sandwiches. All are around $12-15 but come with a side of soup or fries. There's a restaurant section and a to-go section. I got the fresh fish sandwich with corn chowder. It was so-so. The fish is fried on a brioche bun. The corn chowder was creamy and good but pretty unhealthy. Next time i'm in town i def want to try their freshly made donuts (which come in all kinds of odd flavors). I'm not sure if 'celebrity status' got to Dumont or something, but it's gone down hill, for sure. The burger -- once seasoned well, cooked perfectly medium, still juicy on the inside.. is now ALWAYS overcooked, burnt, underseasoned and looks unhappy on my plate. The bacon in the mac&cheese is always burnt. The fries still suck. And the mixed greens with lemon vin are still my favorite part. And the pickles. read more

I can't decide if I should 1. bother writing a review since there is an exorbitant number of reviews and 2. give Dumont Burger 3 or 4 stars. First, I did like my burger. It was cooked the way I asked it to be, and that's always a huge plus. Nothing worse than asking for medium rare and getting medium well. The buns were good, the lettuce, tomatoes, salad all nice and fresh. I really don't have any complaints (other than those stupid stools that weighed a gazillion pounds making it difficult for me to move mine around...) Thing is, I've made really good burgers at home on the grill in the past, with good brioche buns, homemade pickles and all, so my burger at Dumont Burger was on par with one that I'd make at home. One plus with DB's burger is that I didn't have to eat dinner that night, I was so full from eating all but a little bit of that burger. I suppose I'll give Dumont Burger 4 stars. read more

Bad experiences in-house and delivery. In the restaurant 2 burgers took over an hour to come. And it was 400 degrees in there. Get an air conditioner. Delivery: arrived faster than in the restaurant (what?) but a HUGE rip off. "Avocado salad"? Oh, you mean this ounce of guacamole? Gazpacho? Oh, this 3 sips of tomato water. Please. Ridiculous. I spent 45$ on lunch for 2 that would have fed one person. Skip it, it'll ruin your day. read more

I'm a little confused because when I looked at this places website the menu looked really big. Well when I got there, it was a lot smaller and really just burgers. Luckily they had a Buffalo chicken sandwich special that was really good! I got that. I'll also say the drink I got was really fresh and I enjoyed it a lot! I am serious about burgers and dumont Burger is probably the best I've had in Williamsburg. The burgers are prepared to order, the fries are dilish, and the onion rings... Let's just say they look like Crispy-Creame Donuts they are so big a lovely. The interior is a little jammed and light on seating, but the atmosphere is cozy. Once you're seated you'll forget you in one of the trendier parts of Brooklyn. Great little place, which treat burgers with the tender love and attention they are. read more

Food: Probably one of my favorite burger joints in the city. Fresh ingredients (tomato was red and oozing sweetness, lettuce had a nice crunch, onions nice and spicy) top of the extremely juicy patty. Meat is cooked to order (at least for medium orders). Good choice using the extremely rich brioche as the bun that holds the burger together. Quality from bread to meat and everything in between. For sides, I highly recommend the onion rings over the fries. Nice thick cuts of onions and after frying still maintains the onion flavor. Drink: Average beer selection. Didn't try anything else, but they do stock a full bar. Service: Friendly service, nothing outstanding though. Ambiance: Every time I went, sat at the bar. Tall stools that were comfortable enough. The tables looked uncomfortable, especially the one lining the wall, looks too narrow. Everything here is made of wood but fear not, the dinginess of old wood in the air is lacking. Combined with the natural lighting, the gleam of human oil on the surfaces adds character to the establishment. read more
