Sorry Duluth Diner ... other than the cleanliness of the place and the oh so cute Russian(?) waitresses, you really had nothing going on. I ordered an omelette and at first I thought "this looks kind of unique" when it came out. I soon discovered the uniqueness was most likely due to the fact that the cook didn't really know how to fold an omellete so he just sort of made scrambled eggs with things mixed into it (maybe more like a frettata?). Plus the cheese they used was Velveeta - admittedly it tasted OK, but I usually order omelettes because I'm looking for something healthier than say for example pancakes. But I think the low quality mix ins and the Velveeta had me thinking I really didn't eat anything healthy at all! If you want to see cute Russian waitresses - go for it, but don't expect a lot out of the food! read more

We've never ordered anything but breakfast here, but they do a good job with that. The 3-egg omelettes are yummy and they agreeably cook the bacon the way we like: ultra-crispy (lots of places can't or won't do this correctly). The sides are decent, usually grits or home fries. The biscuits tend toward the heavy and lumpy and are best avoided, but their toast is a little higher grade. The coffee is always good and strong, and we've never found the servers to be less than friendly and quick. The prices are decent (most breakfasts range between $5 and $8), so what's not to like? It's a diner; don't expecting the best food you've ever eaten and you should come away with your hunger appeased and your wallet less than emptied. read more

Great spot for breakfast, fast service, reliable, always good. We always go here after all the other fancy pants places tell us we have to wait 30 + minutes (really? I do not think so). Duluth Diner gets me in, sits me down and serves me all the while I would have been standing outside in someone eles parking lot. Typical diner fare. Which basically means they have a little bit of everything. Duluth diner is smaller than some of the other area diners, but I think I like that. It's not fancy or complex, but then again it's got 'diner' in the name. Nevertheless, this is a pretty solid choice for an easy and affordable meal. Don't expect frills; expect hearty food. I particularly like the breakfast menu. The Duluth Diner special comes with a ridiculous amount of food! The pancakes are above average, but the biscuits are great! The bacon, the sausage, the eggs: it's your standard big American breakfast, but it hasn't disappointed me yet. To the contrary: I look forward to it from time to time. There's a certain je ne sais quoi to the experience. It's a little cozy and a little casual, but it's tasty. I wouldn't go as far as to call it one of my favorites, but I happily return to the Duluth Diner every now and again. I would say more, but it's a simple place that deserves a simple review. I think I have a problem. I like diners, but I am a vegetarian. Typically, those are mutually exclusive conditions, but breakfast at a diner is often way more delicious than any tired brekkie I could cook up. So, when a friend and I had heard this place was good, we promptly trooped off the following weekend for some diner-esque delights. The menu is varied, and the price is a little high for what we got. I'm not complaining, though, because it was still delicious, and I am willing to pay for something that hits the proverbial "spot." I had a waffle and scrambled eggs, and both were right on target. Went there this morning and was pleasantly surprised. Listen, I go into a diner expecting crap most of the time - and am never disappointed. My boyfriend and I are on a breakfast and thrift store shopping kick on Saturdays and Duluth Diner is close to his house. We try to go somewhere new every week, so we thought we'd give it a try. We were seated right away and ordered coffee. I ordered the Breakfast Special (2 pancakes, bacon, sausage, home fries, two eggs, and toast or a biscuit - for only $8.95?!? Awesome!). He ordered the eggs benedict and we ordered a side of biscuits and gravy to try. I'm not a huge fan of sweet breakfast items, but the pancakes were very nicely done. Fluffy, good flavor, absorbed butter and syrup nicely, and were cooked perfectly. Not a big pancake fan - but I LOVED these. Everything else was very nice as well, and the bacon wasn't too crispy which was good. The eggs benedict was nicely done and the biscuits and gravy were pretty good too - though we should have ordered sausage gravy. Service was really attentive but not hovering. Service is very good. The restaurant has nice Decour and is very clean. This place is similar to the type of Greek diners that you would find in Philadelphia or NJ. The leg of lamb was outstanding. You have your choice of breakfast, lunch or dinner the entire time they're open. We went for dinner and we were very pleased at the quality and freshness of the meals - large portions. Six of us had dinner for under $78, not including tax, tip or drinks. The worst part of dining here is trying to decide what you want to eat - as the menu is huge. read more

Duluth Diner is a perfect restaurant for primarily breakfast. On the other hand, it is not a big restaurant that can fit tons of people at a time. It is a diner with reliable food quality. Overall, I believe it is a great place to eat due to its great prices, food quality, punctuality, wide food selection, and convenient parking. Due to COVID getting into a restaurant seems like an unnecessary hassle. To minimize the chances of getting the virus, I limit the amount of human interaction of those who are not my family members as much as possible. So when I arrive to pick up my food when they notify me it is ready. I expect it to be ready, when they say it is. You don't know how many times I have arrived at a place that I ordered food, but only to find that my meal was not ready in a reasonable amount of time. When I am in a rush, it is a quite annoying experience. Fortunately, Duluth Diner has never let me down in that regard. The food quality is something that always leaves me immensely satisfied. I have this pet peeve for my pancakes. I do not wish to have to drown them in syrup. I do not want my pancakes to have to taste like just a massive plate of sugar, just to eat it without choking. Duluth Diner has created a near-perfect pancake. Always warm and flakey and yet not too dry. The sheer level of the pancake is merely superb. The menu might be a bit too wide in variety concerning the selection. I doubt every meal is of the same quality; they make pancakes. Typically, when a restaurant has many choices, that usually indicates they are overcompensating for their lack of quality. That has me a bit worried that I would be disappointed with a place that typically serves spectacular food when I try to branch out. The large selection, I admit, makes me quite apprehensive. Although, their track record makes me hopeful that my intuition is wrong this time. Based on what I have had at Duluth Diner, the high quality is paired with really reasonable prices. I can get a decent meal for my five siblings for about $60! Do you know how hard it is to feed that large of a family?!?!? I tell you, at times, Duluth Diner is a godsend. Just seeing my adorable nieces stuffing their pudgy cheeks while my wallet does not take a big hit makes me make happy Uncle noises, Have you ever been looking forward to this one meal all day? At every waking moment, you fantasize about how it would taste, and the thought fills you up with excitement. But when you pull up to the only place that makes that meal exactly how you like it, there is nowhere to park? That is by far the worst feeling that could ever occur to anyone. That is a fate I do not wish upon, even my worst of enemies. Duluth Diner never has that problem. The Diner's location is in a practically frothing plaza with space, practically challenging anyone to come and they to fill every parking space up. To sum it up, Duluth Diner is a great place to get a bite to eat. While the wide food selection makes s me a tad bit apprehensive about the food quality for every meal. So far, the Diner has not let me down yet. And fair pricing that makes it easy to get a make for a big family. read more

The food is good and reasonably priced, but the service can be anywhere from slow to BAD. On 10/20/2018, I would put it in the BAD category. The waitress couldn't care less about service. She was inattentive, and curt at times. They have an entire back page dessert menu with over 50 desserts listed. The problem is that they don't actually serve most of them. They have 12 varieties of cheesecakes listed, but they don't serve any of them. The rude waitress informed me that they only have what's in the display case. When I complained at check out, the employee simply said "sorry" and then that'll be $28.95. At this point, I'm not sure I'll return. The only redeeming feature was that I really did enjoy the food! I've been twice, but I don't believe I'll return for a 3rd visit. The servers were very nice, so no complaint there. The menu was OVERWHELMING....it took me 30 mins to pick something. When the food arrived, the portions were larger than most restaurants give. However, the taste was BASIC. No flavor really...borderline A TV dinner type meal. HOW DARE YOU! To the Cook who prepared my french toast today: How dare you prepare my delicate french toast on the same grill that you prepared a burger with onions. Did you really think that I wouldn't notice the beef bits?. Thank you for ruining my lunch and my appetite! As a fellow cook, I will just give you a bit of free advice: If you are preparing lunch and breakfast at the same time, (as most diners do), you need to have a breakfast grill and a lunch grill going because those who are ordering breakfast expect to receive a clean tasting meal that is not tainted with unnecessary ingredients. If you are unable to have separate grills, you must at least have designated areas where lunch and breakfast items do not come into contact. French toast should never be rushed because it is soaked in liquid and must be cooked thoroughly or it will be mushy. My order today was obviously rushed not because I was impatient but because you were being careless. If you get overwhelmed and find you can't properly prepare the order, ASK FOR HELP! I would much rather wait an additional 10 minutes for a quality meal that I can actually eat than one that is simply inedible and destined for the trash bin. read more

Horrible experience. I'm very particular about how I eat my food and how it's prepared. I have no problem in giving precise instructions on what my expectations are at the beginning. When my food was delivered it was exactly the opposite of what I requested. Eggs should never be just laid on the grill if ordered scrambled. That is a fried egg not scrambled. My potatoes were cold and my waiter insisted that I get toast or biscuit, which the breakfast special already comes with pancakes. I knew it wasn't right but I figured he didn't understand me, ‍. I got hungry for some real breakfast, and it came down to Waffle House and this place. My earlier review was for later in the day, so I thought,"Why not? Maybe they have their diner act together for breakfast." Arrived at 9:30 to a pretty much empty place, host told me to pick my choice of seats. Glad to. I ordered two eggs over medium, ham, grits, and wheat toast, cup of Joe. Within 10 minutes, it was all in front of me, and it was beautiful. Eggs are eggs, ham is ham, and toast is toast (although I liked the fiber heavy brand they use). These grits, however, ARE grits. I have been to many diner's in my life and had good experiences and bad experiences. I have been treated well and not treated well. Over the several years I have been to this diner and each time I have been let down either by the food but mostly the service. I know I should have gone once and let it be but I believe in giving everything a chance to succeed. I know the American economy is bad right now so prices are going to be high but the prices here are stupendous. The amour of money you shell out for the quality of food is just terrible. I ordered the breakfast special and the eggs were under cooked and bacon was as thin as paper, the sausage looked like it was a mini burger but did have a good taste and the home fries looked as if they had been left over from the night before because they were burnt and hard and the onions and green peppers even tasted old well the bit that was not burnt. I'm an old fashion American that believes I good service. I remember when the American dollar was worth and meant something but apparently it does not mean anything at the Duluth Diner. Oh and I saw the waitress twice when she asked me what I wanted to order and when she brought me the check. I will say this about Duluth Diner they do make a damn good waffle but that's only if you can actually get it warm. I was not going to completely ridicule their service but even when I went to pay i handed the girl my card and when she decided to drop it on the counter and not even apologize i had had it. I don't believe you should ever have to complain of mouth off to get good food or service from a place you go and send your hard earned money. I highly DO NOT recommend Duluth Diner if you have a taste or feel for diner food there is actually a much better place about eight south of them over in Norcross and the food and service is amazing and I have written a review for them as well. I see by my first review that I have been eating here for 6 years. It is still the best breakfast in Duluth. We eat lunch or dinner here at least once a week. We are part of the regular crowd as are many people we see here on a regular basis. Everything here is good and any server will help you if you need something. Just ask. This is our regular Sunday breakfast spot. We would rather give patronage to a local eatery over chains :). The service and food are both fast. A must have when you want to get out and about on your day. The biscuits are great. The breakfast food is great, just like you would have at home. I haven't tried anything from lunch or dinner section so I can't speak to that. It's easy to get in and get a seat, if there is a wait it's not more than 5 minutes. Their burgers are one of the best in town, although I can't say the same for the rest of the plates. As for the atmosphere, there's really not much to say. The place seems like it came straight out of a movie from the 80s, so don't make the mistake of going here as part of your date night. We just visited Duluth Diner for the first time this past weekend. The atmosphere was very nice and cozy. The restaurant is clean and well maintained. Our waiter was very prompt and friendly. The only bad thing I had to say is that the booths were very far from the table and a little to low. So I had to kind of hang off the edge of my seat to eat my omelet. We'll definately go back. Just might ask for a booster chair next time. read more
