I had a club sandwich with fries. It was good but nothing felt homemade except the bloody Mary, which made me feel homo-made. An Irish Pub in upscale Pinehurst, home of many golf courses. Good, cold, Guinness on tap with a great variety of traditional Irish cuisine and on the night that we visited, live traditional Irish music in the basement. My buddy and I stayed at the bar upstairs. We visited during the "fish and chips" special where you can order as many fish you could eat. My buddy had the special and I opted for the traditional corned beef and cabbage. After my dish arrived, I'm thinking that I should have ordered the special. My corned beef and cabbage arrived a deep dish plate with chopped up cabbage and slices of corned beef all mixed in. Hmmm...never tried it that way. The mustard that accompanied the plate was French's Yellow and Dijon mustard. I asked for the more traditional mustard with whole grains, I was informed that it was available at an additional cost. Another first at an Irish pub to pay extra for traditional mustard. So...would I return? Maybe, for just the Guinness, but not the food. read more

I love this place every time I'm down in the area. They have good cold beer and a friendly welcoming staff. Their onion soup is the bomb and I ate it for lunch everyday with my last visit. Dugans is a good, casual place for lunch or dinner to get the Pinehurst experience at a very good price. I have been here multiple times on golf trips with friends and they are always accommodating even when we have large groups, and the restaurant is larger than it appears. The menu has plenty of choices ranging from your typical Irish Pub fare to what you would expect from any american sports bar all of which is very reasonably priced. Dugans also stays open later than a lot of places in the village so you can enjoy a few drinks at the bar with friends later on into the night. read more

Over a few days, had both dinner and lunch at Dugan's. The Pub Chicken Sandwich was huge and delicious. If you opt for the cole slaw, be aware that it is enough for two - or more - and very good. Also had a steak dinner that although fine, was not the best I've experienced. Cold beer and a good selection of alcohol. Very friendly, attentive and competent staff. Very reasonably priced, especially when compared to the hotel. Great location, just a couple blocks from the Carolina Hotel in Pinehurst. The market area is small inviting and a nice place to walk around. A sure return stop on my next visit. read more

Great atmosphere, good food! Had lunch here on a recent trip to Pinehurst. This place had quick and friendly service during lunch and turned out a great meal and a great price. The Pub Chicken sandwich was a favorite at our table as well as the spicy buffalo chicken sandwich. They were both served with beer batter fries or choice of cole slaw for around $8.50. Everyone at our table opted for the fries so I don't know how good the slaw is, but it was recommended. Reason for visit: date night After having dinner and a few drinks somewhere else, we decided to finish the night here. It's always entertaining at Dougans. The food is pretty good, I love the fish and chips. We came here for a little bit of a nightlife and a final beer two before we went home. Upstairs very quiet at night but downstairs where the activity is. It's very unique to Pinehurst if you want a little bit more of a up-tempo crowd. One of the things you will notice about this place is the crowd downstairs. There is a mix of traveling golfers, and locals. If you are looking for golfers, or you're looking to hang out with your friends this is the place to go. We like to come here every once a while to people watch and have a few beers with the friendly staff. If you are in Pinehurst and are looking for a little bit louder music, a place where locals come for a beer and have fun, this is it. You won't go wrong. This was the first place I ate at when I moved into Pinehurst. Prices seem fair and customer service was great. They should stop recommending the fish n chips. It's too simple to make, nothing special about it. It was good but hard to eat when oil is spewing out. I spoke with the manager. He seems cool. Dugan's Pub hosted the gathering of family and friends after my Father's funeral in February . We had the entire pub area downstairs, which was perfect! The interior is not the most clean or up to date, a little more like an older pub, which is really what it is, so for me no big deal, I enjoy it. My service has been good both upstairs and downstairs. The food is consistent and I would have normally given them a 4 star but their soups and stews are exceptionally good and I would choose eating soup here over anywhere else, so that bumps them up to a 5 star. read more

My friend and I sat down at the bar top while we waited for a dining table. There were two bartenders working and neither of them acknowledged us in a timely manner. The male bartender then did ask us what we would like. It took him a minute to get a wine list to my friend and then he poured our drinks. Neither bartender offered us a dinner menu. We called out for another round of drinks and as soon as we got them the host notified us that there was a bar table ready for us upstairs. We closed out with our bartender and then sat down upstairs where the female bartender said she would be with us in a minute... 10-15 minutes later she stopped at our table and asked us if we were ready to order. Granted there was a full bar (which included six stools and every table was full - five tables, including ours). I also noticed about four other females with server attire on so I'm not sure why they were in the weeds... We ordered immediately and I also asked for two waters. 10 minutes later, we got our waters. After that the food came out in a timely manner. The blackened salmon was fantastic and my rib eye, ordered medium rare, came out medium but I didn't say anything or send it back - it was still very good. The vegetables that came on the side of both of our entrees consisted of broccoli and a couple of carrot and red bell pepper slices - not very tasty and neither were the mashed potatoes. The bartender who served us was friendly enough but based upon the service and the other employees, I would not go back to this place. read more
