We got the tomahawk steak, which came atop of a full loaf of garlic bread and six perfectly poached eggs with the most amazing hollandaise sauce. Excited to finally try Dueling Spoons. It was our anniversary so we splurged. Charming atmosphere, we arrived a little early and were seated immediately. I ordered the mimosa flight and it was fun (loved the blackberrySo hard to choose what to order, finally decided on the Kobe steak au poivre, how often will I have the chance to try a Kobe steak, it was delicious but it didn't seem much different from a good New York steak. My husband had the solo surf and turf with a giant lobster tail and a New York steak, I tried his potato side and it was so good, I don't know what kind of cheese he used but yum. He was In heaven. We started with the potato leek soup and the shrimp watermelon salad. They were also delicious. We split the panne cotta berries for dessert and took home a piece of the sour apple pie. Took mom and dad for their 71st anniversary and so glad we chose dueling spoons. Mom had the tenderloin with shrimp and blue cheese sauce, dad had short rib dish with mashers. Both excellent and plenty for tomorrow. Kathleen was our server and made their night very special with flowers and a card signed by the whole staff. Hands down the best restaurant I have ever been too! I chose the seafood pot pie and see many other menu items to try in the future. Portions are quite large, and would be easy to share. I will be having leftovers for a couple days. The seafood pot pie has huge chunks of salmon, large scallops, prawns, etc. The crust is buttery and flaky, so amazing! We were with a group of 8 and everyone's dish was appealing and portions were huge. Prices are very reasonable for food quality and portion size. They offer specialty beverages starting at $3 which is a shockingly reasonable price & value. Save room for dessert, or get something to go. I recommend the walnut apple pie. We live in Eugene. Our son said they recently noticed this new restaurant pop up out of nowhere in Fall creek. (25 minute drive from near Costco) so we had to try it for Sunday brunch. Found out it's only been open for 6 weeks. Food was amazing! We had goat cheese veggie frittata, chicken Caesar salad and golden onion soup. Everything was fresh and delicious. Come to find out chef Billy has a list of many accolades a mile long after his name, including being recognized by Michelle Obama. While we were there I noticed in between cooking he came out and introduced himself to every table. Very personable. I hope everyone takes the time to take the small drive to Fall Creek. For being open a mere 7 weeks, Dueling Spoons has it dialed in! Great food, friendly and attentive staff, and a cool atmosphere lend to making this a worthwhile destination. I managed to catch the tail end of brunch and left stuffed. House brown bread with jam and butter started me off, followed by a superb golden onion soup. Sweet onions barely caramelized, almost hinting of apples, with croutons and melted cheese. Decadent. The salmon and shaved fennel benedict was spot-on. Perfectly smooth and tangy hollandaise, egg cooked exactly right, and the balance of flavors really made the dish. The chef (Billy Reid) made the rounds several times to ensure the guests were all happy, and is clearly proud of his well-earned cooking chops. He certainly should be proud of his restaurant. The staff were very friendly (many are family) and attentive and clearly enjoying a busy Sunday brunch service. Dueling Spoons is worth every minute of the drive out to Fall Creek! read more

This place is a gem. I have been several times and each time has been so delicious. The owner sends you a text after you make a reservation so you understand what to expect. He states it's slow and to hang out but each time I've been its been a reasonable amount of time. My favorites are the pork chop and the shrimp and watermelon salad. Yes that is an odd combination, but it is very good. The pork chop is huge and juicy, served with potatoes and vegetables. I have also had the the steak, filet, and salmon. Each cooked to perfection. We have been for dinner and then for celebrations. The family comes and sings to you. They truly make you feel welcome and special. Although the ambience isn't super romantic, it's a great place to come for good food and service. They have a wine and beer menu but no hard alcohol. Their mimosa flight is very tasty. read more

We ate there last night for dinner for the first time. This is a wonderful place. The restaurant was warm and inviting inside so don't be fooled by its plain exterior.The service was impeccable. All the servers were warm, friendly and talkative. The dinner was served in a timely but, not rushed manner. Extensive wine, cider and beer menu. My wife had steak and Guinness pie which was delicious. I had 1/4 lb. shrimp stuffed with crab meat in a cream lobster sauce. The sauce was to die for. Proportions were huge. I have no words for the evening we had a Dueling Spoons but I will do my best. After a reservation snafus, Chef Billy made sure we were seated and enjoyed our experience to the fullest, giving us the best seats in the house (his words), and they truly were. Service was excellent, his wife is the sweetest and we were always attended to by someone. Chef Billy was attentive in between cooking, fun to talk to, hilariously funny, and just a true gem of a person. He was so honest about how he runs his restaurant and what it means to him to cook for people. He is to be adored. As for the food, good Lord. Best steak and shrimp I've ever had in my life. 2 of our other guests had the same entree and were equally pleased, 1 other guest had a seafood pastry dish and he loved it. Appetizers were great, salad was great, salad dressing was out of this world. We just absolutely loved our experience, our food and Chef Billy. We cannot wait to go back some day. Let's hope Landline Larry doesn't mess it up next time. And a note to future patrons, leave your expectations and your attitude at the door. Loved the location and setting and feeling of the place. The bread was delicious! Main courses were not quite as good as everyone hyped them up to be. Pork was underdone on part of it. Such a big serving though that the underdone part was just set aside. Chicken was thin cutlets that were a little dry. The sauce did help though. I love that the staff are all the family but dang if you say you are full and don't want dessert you get the cold shoulder and the woman won't talk to you the rest of your visit. The son that was working though was super nice. And I loved that everyone came out and sang happy birthday. In response to owner....not saying I won't come again. We were thrown out of Dueling Spoons while attempting to celebrate our 33rd anniversary this evening. There's a first time for everything, and I guess at age 67 I can now count being asked to leave a restaurant as a new experience. The wait staff ignored us for most of an hour, and when I gently mentioned this to the chef/owner who stopped at our table to chat, he told us in no uncertain terms to leave. We did. Zero stars. The restaurant has some interesting practices based on limitations in the kitchen, which we were fully informed of when we made the reservation. However, we were treated far outside of those practices, and I could not have been more-pleasant when I gently, quietly, mentioned this to the owner...repeating a few times that "all was good", and we were looking forward to our appetizer...even though we had been there for an hour. He made it clear that we would not be receiving food from him, and asked us...no, told us, to leave...and he blamed us for "ruining it" for him. He was attempting to gaslight us, trying to blame us, after being ignored for an hour. He went from friendly/loquacious to angry/hostile in about a third of a second. I see here that he attacks the people who leave negative reviews, and I fully expect this from him here. I now also note that another review was left here with other patrons having been asked to leave, after being ignored by the wait staff, and "daring" to mention this. The owner appears to be a malignant narcissist. This was a new experience for us. EDIT: Sadly, "Chef Billy" has responded in exactly the way I anticipated, given how we were treated at his establishment, and in seeing his response to other negative reviews. In fact, lying and bullying here aren't going to work on me. Based on Billy's ebullient behavior before we were seated (we had a very nice conversation, he and I, but it was mostly him bragging about various accolades), and the way that wait staff (his family) avoided even eye contact with us for most of an hour, I suspect a very difficult circumstance for them. Yes, we were served wine, although only the two glasses were consumed before being unceremoniously tossed out by Billy. In retrospect, it's clear that this restaurant doesn't follow their own written policies, which state that a single table starts their service with a 5pm reservation, and additional tables are added in 15 minute intervals. We had a 5pm reservation. From their website, "There is only one 5pm reservation, one 5.15, and so on." And to respond directly to Billy, I never said anything in my review about "ordering first"...so you're lying about that. In fact, we were in fact seated before the couple you mention...and you're also lying about their pre-ordering...we heard them order...they were attended to by your wait-staff before us, and even though we were seated before them, and we waited another 30-40 minutes before anyone bothered to take our order. So spin the tale any way that you'd like, Billy. I don't see how your responses to honest reviews like this will help you...instead of trying to repair the damage, you're intentionally attacking your would-be patrons. How's that going to work out for you in the long run? read more

We had the surf and turf for ten. 20lb ish tomahawk, 10 massive lobster tails (I mean massive), melt in your mouth potatoes, garlic, roasted peppers, perfectly cooked asparagus. My family devoured the salad and soda bread. There wasn't a detailed spared. The variety of beverages had everyone happy and the desserts are indescribably good. We've been wanting to try this charming restaurant since it opened and finally visited them on a recent Wednesday. When making the reservation, Chef Billy was very clear via text that they don't hurry you, they want you to take your time and enjoy the experience and that if we had a later reservation (7p and after) we may wait. I appreciated the heads up as we had 7p reservations. However, we arrived a few minutes early and were immediately seated by a very friendly hostess. Our drink orders were taken immediately by Kathleen (a bottle of rose' that was immediately put into an ice bucket). The atmosphere was very festive as several tables were celebrating anniversaries. Lots of singing by all including by Chef Billy who was in great spirits. After enjoying a bit of our amazing wine (we asked to keep the bottle since it was so interesting), Kathleen took our appetizer and dinner orders. Immediately afterwards, we were given a large chunk of their Irish soda bread which was delicious. The spoon shaped butter was a nice touch. After enjoying some more of our wine and the bread, our mushroom with pastry appetizer was wheeled to the table. It was my highlight of the entire meal, just delicious. Our entrees arrived shortly afterwards. I had the chicken with mushrooms, a delicious dish with mashed potatoes, fresh vegetables smothered in a wonderfully light wine and cream sauce. My wife had the seared salmon, a large portion perfectly cooked over those same potatoes and vegetables. Between courses, I perused the mercantile space they have and was impressed by the amount of items they had from the UK and Ireland that is very difficult to get on your own here. Included in that was some HP Brown Sauce I fell in love with during an extended business trip I took to the UK a few years ago. We topped off our meal experience with the poached pear with pastry points. Simply amazing. Including a photo of that. We ended up buying some of the HP sauce and eggs they had. Chef Billy, whom throughout our time there stopped to chat asking us how our meal was going, even threw in some sticky pudding for free for us to take home. Overall, this was a top 5 meal experience for me since we moved to the area in 2019. Service, food and ambiance all 5 stars. Thank you Chef Billy and Kathleen for a memorable evening. We just enjoyed the best meal we've had in a year. World class food, excellent service, and a warm and inviting atmosphere await at Dueling Spoons. I recommend the seafood pot pie. Our table that was ready the moment we walked through the door, we were warmly greeted, quickly seated, housemade bread and high quality butter placed on the table along with water and menus for all. The service was superior, attentive with no rushing. This family operation, and the care they put into serving their clients, while serving up excellent meals is most impressive. It is rare, the world over, to find an establishment with such attention to detail, that checks every single box for great food and a great dinner experience. I cannot believe I forgot to post a review! My husband, 2 kids (14 & 9) & I ate here for my birthday last month. The entire experience was amazing. Yes, you aren't going to get your meal on a fast food timeline. But why go out to eat with people you don't want to spend time with? It's not just a meal- it's an experience. The entire family went out of their way to chat with us. I'm fairly certain that my 9 year old son was ready to change families and just stay. Sean was so great with him. And then when Chef Billy gave him his own Dueling Spoons shirt... Wow. That made his entire year! What an absolutely delightful place & family. Oh! And the food is unbelievably good. Wonderful food and service. Chef Billy made accommodations to fit us in for my wife's birthday. We were warmly greeted by the staff and informed that dinner service does not start until 5 PM and were welcome to mingle at the bar or check out their market items. I saw Chef out greeting customers and quickly thanked him for making room for us which he replied "You're Ben!? Welcome, we are glad to have you!". Shortly after, they began seating their tables. And we had requested the surf and turf when we booked out table, but were told by both Chef and our server that we are not obligated to order it and are welcome to try anything off the menu. So we took a few minutes to look over the menu as well. Our server came back a few minutes later to see if we still wanted to go with the Surf and Turf of if we've decided to try something off the menu. We let her know that we'd like to go with the surf and turf. My wife and I were then guided to their cooler to select our cut of meat and choice of steak and ring the bell. (One her dad's favorite things!) Chef Billy also swung by our table prior to cooking our meal to confirm we were happy with the decision and presented the MASSIVE lobster tail - which he also confirmed we were happy with. The food and service were both great and each member of the staff spent time with our table (and others) to share stories and check in on their customers. We loved every bit of our experience! The food was amazing: scalloped potatoes, roasted veggies, lobster and steak (oh my!). The sauces- OH MY!!! They are amazing and I passed up on the offer to take some to go! Even though we were stuffed and politely declined dessert - our server gave us a slice of Pecan Pie to go; because "nobody should have to pass up on pie on their birthday". we booked an early dinner, and yes, reservations are required. Billy and the kids bring in a few tables to start the night, then fold in smaller parties every 15 minutes or so. As some of you might've read, there's only one person in the kitchen. And he doesn't want to be rushed. Aside from the exorbitant champagne bill racked up by our good friend, we would have gotten out of there for $30 apiece. The service was spacious, but attentive. They really have no intention of you hurrying through your dinner. We shared six or so appetizers, and there were no highlights, because all of them were fabulous. I did not think to make any photographs. foodies coming out from Eugene and Springfield mixed with the locals, so it's an interesting, fun scene. read more

We went for our 15 year wedding anniversary at the urging of long time friends. We were treated just as though we were in Billy and Kathleen's home. Complete with an anniversary song and a beautiful hand written card (we told them ahead of time why we were going) singed by the whole family. We are hoping for an invitation to their real home for Christmas now! Speaking of Christmas we had the pana cotta for desert which is searved with fresh berries filo pastry and a beautifully poached pear (my husband ate a bite before I could get a picture. Apparently this is a dessert typically served at Christmas in Ireland. My husband is a vegetarian and we were able to let Chef know ahead of time so he made a special entree for him which I think was actually bigger than him. I had the pork Shane and I really just wanted to take a bath in the gravy that it is served with. It was SO delicious! We also ordered an appetizer which was beautiful (and again we cut into before I took a picture oops). I believe it's called the onion Shannon. It was fun to look around at the candies and imported foods and teas from Ireland while we waited for dinner. Well worth making a reservation way in advance as this is a very popular place and they are booked out several weeks in advance! I already made my next reservation! I have a new favorite spot! This is a family owned and operated restaurant, headed up by chef Billy- the recipient of 14 national cooking awards. We were greeted by his daughter, the hostess; and waited on by his lovely wife Kathleen. Chef Billy came out multiple times to visit with guests and remembered my name from the reservation, so warm welcoming The highlights: The most amazing wine list clam and mussel appetizer with a sauce I wanted to drink it was so rich and delicious! my husband got to hand pick his Tbone from the cooler and ring the big steak bell it came back with the perfect outter crisp and juicy bursting with flavor inside. My favorite was the Chimichurri served with it- so damn good! no surprise that the potato sides were next level... my mash featured a hint of allspice or nutmeg- something I've never had with potatoes, but it left me inspired to experiment with it the next time I cook potatoes! And the potatoes au gratin once again like nothing I've ever had! Kathleen suggested the seafood pot pie- something I had never imagined being a thing. It was amazing- huge pieces of fish, shrimp and scallops in a lobster sauce with a decadent pastry topping. The family got together last night at DUELING SPOONS restaurant and boy what a treat!! Though a small and intimate establishment the ambience, great eclectic menu was huge and impressive! it was so much fun. Billy, the owner, a true to form Irishman is as entertaining as it can get. Our group of 4 visited to celebrate my birthday. All I can say is WOW. This is the best meal I think I've ever had. The service was wonderful too!
