    I was looking for a restaurant that served French food then saw Duc's Bistro on Yelp. A 4.4 rating and in business for over 30 years convinced me to give it a try. I'm glad I did since we all had such a nice dinner! The restaurant is very cozy, comfortable and you feel like you're having dinner at someone's house. We ordered and ate everything family-style so it made it seem more homey. The food was delicious! For appetizers we had escargot, spring rolls, and banana blossom salad. The salad was the most unique as we've never heard of it. It turned out to be delicious; refreshing, tasty, and complemented the escargots and spring rolls well. For entrees we had the pork belly, prawns, rack of lamb, and mahimahi. All were so good. My favorite being the rack of lamb. The chops were a good size and pleasantly seasoned. The pork belly was a close second. Very tasty and a good cut as there was not too much fat on it but enough to make it tender and yummy. The service was excellent and can see it being open for many more years!

    Duc's Bistro is tucked just outside of Chinatown and was easier to get to than I expected. Parking is across the street, and the restaurant provides a code for free parking, which I really appreciated. Just a heads up, the stalls are on the smaller side. The food was excellent. I couldn't decide on a main, so I ordered two appetizers and that ended up being the perfect amount. I started with the lobster bisque, which is always a favorite of mine, and it did not disappoint. I also ordered the crab cakes. They were very good, though just a touch salty for my personal taste. My friends ordered a few other appetizers, including escargot, which was my first time trying it. I was half-expecting a Pretty Woman moment, but they were already shelled. Pro tip from my friends: put the escargot on the house bread. Absolutely delicious. I also snagged a couple of spring rolls, which were great as well. What really stood out was the hospitality. The owner and his wife were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. I'd definitely come back.

    There's nothing you can wrong with here! A multigenerational owned business, and you can tell they just love their clientele. I love here, but my parents come from Australia and this is their top request to visit every time. Faves are the pâté, tartare, butter leaf greens to start with. Then anything else!

    Surprisingly, I have never heard of Duc's bistro despite them being around for 30 years. They're located conveniently in Chinatown, and there's paid parking right across the street. They serve French and Vietnamese cuisine. I was invited to a group dinner, so I was excited to try out this restaurant! Since I was a guest, the menu was chosen for us, so there were a few items that I typically would not order. Everything here is served family style. We started out with French bread, which was homemade and really good! For appetizers, we had the Vietnamese crispy spring rolls, which were really good. I enjoyed these. The chicken salad (Goi ga) was really tasty and had a good ginger dressing. Honestly, these two things were probably the best of the bunch. We also had the escargot which comes with button mushrooms in herb butter, and the beef tartar, both of which were OK, but nothing exciting. I don't particularly care for foie gras, and I don't like lamb so I didn't try the lamb chops. The pork belly was good, Rich tasting and tender. We also had the local fish nonpareil (Mahi-mahi) which was supposed to be in a lemon caper dill sauce, but instead was bland and on the mushy side. Dessert was the classic crème brûlée, which was OK. Service was good. Food was OK, nothing really outstanding.

    5 stars. Great food, cozy and romantic ambiance inside. Friendly and personable service. Wide selection of traditional French and Asian dishes with an elevated touch. What's not to like? There were 4 of us and we tried a lot of things: foie gras, escargot, spring rolls, duck breast, pan fried fish, lamb chops, chicken curry, saffron rice, and tapioca banana pudding, crème brûlée and affogato for dessert! Honestly, I enjoyed everything and I can't wait to go back to try the rest of the menu lol. The star dishes for me were the pan fried fish and the chicken curry with saffron rice actually! I mean the traditional French fare was solid too, but you know there isn't much surprise to it. The pan fried fish however was a shocker in that it's done so well with the texture and the taste. I was hesitant about getting the chicken curry, but the sweet lady (who's also a cook) recommended the chicken curry so I was like, OK let's give it a shot. Hmmmm that might be one of my favorite curries that I tried. The chicken was tender, and the curry had depth without being sweet or salty; it's hard to describe. The portions were not big. They're all "exquisite" but I thought the prices were not ridiculous. They're higher than average, but the quality was delivered, so it's worth it imo. Parking lot is across the street with discount code provided by the restaurant, make sure you don't pay yet until you get the code from them, or free street parking after 6pm. I can't wait to go back. Thank you for the delicious food and friendly service!

    What an absolute gem of a restaurant! They don't advertise. No social media. Duc's isn't some trendy hot spot. It's a quaint hidden gem that relies on a solid reputation of serving up some of Honolulu's best food for the last 30 years. A true family affair, with Duc in the kitchen and his affable son Ian running the front of the house. Service here embodies the ideas of aloha and ohana. Warm, genuine, generous. The food is spectacular. French-Vietnamese cuisine executed with elegance and perfection. Highlights include: Rack of Lamb with veal demi-glace, beef tartare, green papaya salad and do NOT miss the escargot! Literally everything we ate was a home-run. The restaurant is small...best to call ahead to ensure you get a table, especially for a larger group. This is an amazing local restaurant that deserves your support. It has won my heart and dare I say...one of my favorite restaurants in Honolulu.

    We went there for a Christmas dinner, arriving at 4, when the restaurant opened. Because we were the only customers until others started arriving around 5, we got lots of attention. The spring rolls were the best I've ever had, and the dessert was very good.

    the owners was very welcoming and sweet. the foie gras was cooked perfect, i like when its is cooked all the way through!!! for $6 more we had extra bread to accompany it. the papaya salad was light and refreshing.

    My mother heard about this place and people were raving about it. So I decided to take her there for her 89th birthday. There were many items that looked tantalizing so we settled on escargot, the mahi-mahi special, duck pate, and orange duck. We ended the night with crème brûlée and it was also terrific. Ambience: Movie Magic & Chinatown Charm The moment we stepped inside, I half expected to see Humphrey himself, lounging in a shadowy corner, plotting his next adventure. Instead, we were greeted by a gentleman who could have been a movie star in his own right--older, but with a twinkle of youth, dressed to the nines, and carrying himself with the grace of someone who's seen a thousand stories unfold behind these walls. That was Duc Nguyen, the owner, host, and as it turns out, the evening's culinary magician. The room was a scene set for romance and nostalgia: white linen-draped tables, gleaming glassware, and a single delicate flower at the center of each. The rain pattered softly against the windows, making the city lights outside shimmer. Even though we were the last guests to arrive, the bistro held a gentle buzz, as if the walls themselves were whispering secrets of dinners past. There's something about Chinatown in any city--especially on a wet, chilly night--that makes every neon sign and hidden doorway glow with promise. Duc Bistro was no exception The Hospitality: Old-Soul Kindness Just as we settled in, the dapper Duc approached, his presence as warm as a wool coat on a cold night. "No menu tonight," he said with a knowing smile, "you tell me what you want, and I'll make it happen." Cap and I exchanged a look--when in Casablanca (or Chinatown), right? The snails arrived bubbling in garlicky, herby butter, their aroma so rich I nearly swooned right out of my chair. Main event: Steak Saigon, for me: Slices of beef, tender as a secret, bathed in a sauce with just the right kick of spice and sweetness. Each forkful was a little journey--part Paris, part Saigon, all delicious Breast of Duck, for Cap: Glazed and golden, perched atop a mound of bright saffron rice, with veggies that still had a snap of garden freshness. Cap's eyes sparkled--always a good sign. The flavors were deep and comforting, the portions generous, and the presentation elegant, but never fussy. Every plate felt like a love letter to classic bistro fare, with a dash of Vietnamese soul. However, at La Mer, I think almost every dish we just didn't like. For example, the first course was a foie gras dish with cotton candy which incorporated a sweet element with the foie gras. Not a good combination in my opinion. All of the other dishes weren't bad per se, but they weren't dishes that we felt ourselves wanting to eat or wanting to finish. I know restaurants change their menu's all the time so maybe it was just the dishes we happened to get that we didn't like. The manager did come to check in on us and we communicated how we honestly felt. They did make a very nice gesture of removing 2 of our drinks and 2 of our desserts which was appreciated. On the plus side, the restaurant sits on the 2nd floor and has great views of the ocean. The decor is also nice and the service was good. Just not our cup of tea and we personally wouldn't go back or recommend.

My daughter and I visited for the first time last night and I can say it is well deserving of its award winning status. Parking is located at the Hyatt Centric garage (validated) or on the street which can be a bit trickier. We ubered in. When we arrived at the time of our reservation, we were promptly greeted and seated at the chef's counter by Travis, the maître d'. natuRe waikiki offers a 6-course tasting menu with a Plant-Based Vegan option in the dining room and on the Chef's Counter and an a la carte menu at the bar. My daughter had the regular tasting menu with a few pescatarian substitutions and I had the vegan option. Being at the Chef's Counter, we were able to view Chef Yosuke Masaki (and interact with him) and observe his counter parts diligently work with precision and passion to create each plate. They used fresh, locally sourced ingredients to create dishes with French, Japanese, and Hawaiian influences. Each plate was uniquely delicious and uniquely artistically created. We were in awe as they meticulously plated each dish using tweezers. Presentation was nothing short of impressive. When each piece of edible artwork was placed in front of us, Travis or his counterpart, explained the dish, often times with a mini action which added to the beauty of the presentation esp the opening of the smoked dishes (Celery Root & Kaffir Lime). Everything had the"wow" factor but my standouts (Aina Tasting Menu, Vegan) were the Panipuri & Corn Fritto (cool in temperature, amazingly smooth in texture with pops of corn bits, lite and refreshing), Charcoal-Battered Heart of Palm (designed to look like lava rocks plated on real lava rocks), and the French Onion Soup Gratin (Super creative and fun! Soup placed back into the original onion which was used as the bowl. The entire onion with the exception of the skin was edible and absolutely delicious.). The highlight for my daughter (Hale Tasting Menu) was the Abalone Risotto. Much to our surprise, we were stuffed by the time the last plate was presented. The portions looked small but the satiety factor was deceiving. We felt the value of the experience far outweighed the cost. Kudos to Executive Chef Nae Ogawa (who was not present), Chef Masaki (who was a part of curating the menu), Travis and everyone else at natuRe waikiki for a creating a memorable dining experience. We loved our visit and look forward to visiting again. We also hope to one day experience natuRe tokyo.

The turnip mousse was a bit too dominant and overpowered the caviar. The mushroom duxelles ravioli stuffed with mascarpone and ricotta also fell short. The pasta was undercooked to the point of chewiness . Firmer than expected for my taste even for al dente. It definitely distracted from delicate stuffing The chicken and mushroom reduction sauce definitely carried the dish, bringing depth of flavor. From a service standpoint, one moment stood out. When asked how the ravioli was, I gave honest feedback and was told that's how the chef intended it to be. That showed lack of grace for fine dining and didn't land well. If you're going to ask for feedback, don't be dismissive and defensive of the feedback. Also worth noting: after a $600 dinner for two, we asked for espresso at the end of the meal and were told the machine had already been turned off because they were closed. It's hard to take a "fine dining" restaurant seriously, when that happens. Overall, there's a lot of skill and thoughtful technique here, with some genuinely standout dishes . I purchased a nice bottle of wine for my dad and his wife's 10-year anniversary because I knew they were dining there. I triple-confirmed with the staff ahead of time that the bottle had been purchased, that it would be delivered to their table, and that the server would be aware of the arrangement. Not only was the message never relayed internally, but it created an incredibly awkward and embarrassing situation. The server apparently believed I had paid for the entire dinner rather than just the bottle of wine. My dad and his wife were under the impression that the whole meal had been taken care of. To make matters worse, the restaurant initially charged my card and then later canceled the charge. Instead of contacting me to clarify the situation, they called my dad after he and his wife had already left the restaurant to inform him that they still owed money and requested his credit card information over the phone to process the payment. Imagine celebrating your 10-year anniversary and then getting a call afterward saying you "forgot" to pay your bill. That is incredibly awkward and unacceptable. At no point did the restaurant proactively reach out to me... the person who coordinated and paid for the wine to explain the internal miscommunication. There was no accountability until I called to address it myself. Only then did they apologize and offer a future credit for them. What should have been a thoughtful anniversary gesture turned into an unnecessary embarrassment due to poor internal communication and lack of ownership. Extremely disappointing.

For example the carbonara was +$25 and the Ricci di mare was +$18. Food: the Focaccia bread was free and comes with free refills. The salmon with caviar was really good. It had the perfect balance but very small, about 1.5". The next dish was the baked abalone. That was also very delicious but two bites and it's over. At this point, we were starting to think we would leave hungry. The next dish was the pasta. We tried both the carbonara and the Ricci di mare. Both were very good. The carbonara came with freshly slices truffles and thick crispy pieces of bacon. Highly recommend for truffle lovers. I'm not a huge uni fan but surprisingly the Ricci di mare was also really good. Of note, the pasta in the five course tasting is half the size of the regular order. Even at half the size, I felt the serving portion was good. I felt satisfied but not full. The next dish was the main course so filet mignon and monchong. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly but I personally didn't like the sweet sour balsamic vinegar taste that was drizzled over. I would have preferred it to be more savory. The monchong was okay but a little overcooked for my liking. The portion size of the main course was good. Lastly was our desert but to our surprise, they brought out a nicely written happy birthday platter with half a lava flow desert and a small scoop of ice cream. My son really enjoyed it. The creme caramel was also good and reminded me of flan. Service: the waitress did her job but I personally felt we had better service entering the restaurant and being seated. She had no smile, did not offer any recommendations, and no small talk which is fine but noticeable. Our bill came out to $463.87 tip not included. Though we really enjoyed the salmon and abolone I'm not sure it's worth the price and the extra three bites. Next time I would just stick with the pasta. If we had just ordered the full order of pasta our bill would've been $195.
