I was in High Point & had to try this place & bring it home for my boys & boy were they happy!!! The donuts were so delicious!!! The fresh made to order concept is absolutely amazing. I have to admit it was just a little frustrating to make up my mind on what I wanted to order. Yes, I won't lie it felt a bit pricey, but well worth it. I would definitely recommend if possible to look at al the options beforehand so you know prior to getting there what you would like to order. This is not your average donut shop. They bake them fresh per order so they come out super hot and melty. The texture of the donut is soft, moist and delicious. When you order your donut they put the toppings on by hand right there in front of you. Since it was my first time I figure I would try one of the plain glazed and also a maple bacon. So I'm not a complete believer in Duck Donuts like most people, hence the four stars, but I'm not discarding the possibilities either! Duck Donuts was started a few years ago in,, Duck, NC! It's a small coastal town on the outer banks of NC. It's starting to explode in popularity that's evident in the franchises that are popping up here and there! The base for every donut is the same as it's a simple fried cake style donut. You then can pick from multiple choices of icing dips, toppings, and drizzles to create your masterpiece. They do have their own set menu to help you along as it can be a bit overwhelming to try and choose from all the available choices. I've always heard that since the donuts are fried as you order, then created as you wait, that they're best devoured immediately! I believe that to be true as my first visit here was to take them to a gathering three hours later, and I found them to be a bit dry by that point! I will certainly give the Duck another try, despite the long wait to get a dozen donuts created, and the dryness after a couple of hours, because they're made right in front of you and they've got to be fresher. The donuts are so soft and warm and I really enjoyed the maple bacon donut. The combination of the sweet maple and the salty bacon bits was delicious, but I can see how it can be overwhelming. The donut itself is like a cake and is delicious and sweet. Though it works well with the toppings. The store is formatted so you can see them making your toppings. I am a Krispy Kreme Girl! Never thought another brand of donut could sway me until now. I tasted a sample of cinnamon donut in the store and it was delicious. Hot and somewhat crispy. We ordered 1/2 dozen and I am eating the maple bacon donut and it is Amazing! Can't wait to sample the others. Btw all the donuts are freshly made. They do offer a menu featuring their own creations and boxes to simplify things, but you can fill an entire box with your own custom creations. I recommend doing this online because it can take some time, but you can choose for each donut your flavor of glaze, up to 2 toppings each, and a flavor of drizzle, or you can order bare if you're that basic! You can customize pretty much as much or as little as you want. Want peanut butter and bacon? Go for it! Lemon, chocolate, and raspberry? Of course! The options are fun to create, and the donuts come out looking beautiful and hot with great flavor! A dozen cost like $17 after tax if I remember right, which is a bit pricey, but these are better quality and a better experience than the competitor national chain for cake style donuts. Duck Donuts also offers breakfast sandwich donuts and coffee of course! You can also get a half dozen or order individual donuts if you prefer. You can order custom in store, but that can be a high pressure situation with people waiting behind you! Be considerate and order ahead online, or go with a random box! There is no wrong choice. My coworkers had told me about duck donuts and I drive past it quite often on my way to work, however I've never been able to stop due to work. Well imagine my surprise when I found out they were in Lexington. When I saw the truck I turned around so quick and got myself a good dozen. when walking up to the truck I was greeted by a big smile by a blonde young lady , she was very attentive and helped me pick out the best donuts! Duck Donuts has the slowest and most disorganized service on earth. After several walk in orders in the past few months, I decided to call in an order to avoid the 20 minute wait. The associate couldn't find a pen, couldn't get my debit card in the system, couldn't keep count of how many I'd ordered, couldn't repeat my order because her screen wouldn't "move that way"... and stopped my order six times to shout "WELCOME TO DUCK DONUTS" to walk in customers. I'm sitting (ungreeted) in the lobby still waiting my order as I type this. There are many tiny pieces of paper moved around that have orders scratched on them...and there is a lot of scratching their heads over customer questions.
