I couldn't be more excited to see on my Yelp app a Duck Donuts location that is in the East Valley. I used to get them in SoCal all of the time. The concept is simple-- you order your donuts and then they make it afterwards- you literally are getting the freshest donut possible. Very similar to Krispy Kreme. The donuts have that fresh doughy flavor to it -- just an fyi as these don't taste like normal donuts. I think it's delicious!! And as you can see in the pics they are generous with the toppings, the donut itself is large, and it's refreshing to eat a donut that has frosting on it that doesn't taste funny. I like the confetti, apple, and bacon donuts, again they are amazing. There is a website to look at the different types, and you can pre-order as well. Cute place with a couple of tables inside. The Person behind the counter was super nice and explained that you can order a donut anyway you like, they make them to order. I had high hopes for Duck Donuts. Many years ago, I checked out Duck Donuts on a vacation in I believe Richmond, Virginia. So, I was excited to return to this donut shop many years later in Chandler. On the surface, there's a lot to like. I'll get there in a second. Located in a shopping center with several other businesses, parking won't be a problem. I stopped by on a Wednesday afternoon. Ambiance (3.5/5): Pretty much your typical donut shop. Small. A handful of tables. But definitely more of a grab-and-go type spot. One of the highlights? They sell rubber duckies. And not just your typical rubber duckies. Lots of different ones. Makes sense given the name, huh? While I didn't buy any, I was tempted. Service (3.5/5): Pretty much standard service. There was one lady working when I arrived. She took my order, made my donuts, and gave them to me. She handled the service experience from beginning to end. She wasn't terribly friendly, but she handled everything in a satisfactory manner. Drinks (N/A): No drinks for me on this visit, but they did have an interesting menu of lemonades/juices and milkshakes with mini donuts. Solid offerings for a donut shop. Food (3/5): While Duck Donuts has breakfast sandwiches served on donuts or bread, their bread and butter (pun intended) are their donuts. You have 20-25 donuts to choose from which is a pretty nice selection. Since I visited in October, they even had seasonal Halloween donuts which was pretty awesome. I ordered four donuts to-go. Here's part of where Duck Donuts excels. Their donuts are made to order meaning they're served warm. A warm donut is always better than a cold donut that has been sitting there for hours on end any day of the week. Duck Donuts also offers an interesting selection of toppings, so their donuts look great. Unfortunately, the core, the donut itself, is mediocre at best. You'll be getting a cake donut as your base. I've had a lot better donuts in my day, so while the toppings are great, and the fact that they're made-to-order is fantastic, it's not enough. Without a strong foundation, there's only so much to enjoy. Duck Donuts are average donuts in my book. We stopped by here after Rita's. My husband has a sweet tooth and I'm 9 months pregnant so a donut after burritos sounded great! Staff was so nice and very attentive. We ordered a dozen donuts for two us -ridiculous considering we ordered 17 burritos at Rita's. I got maple a donut my husband ordered 4 lemon, 3 chocolate, 1 maple, 1 blueberry, Girl Scout donut. As others said, very interesting! They make the donuts on order, you can watch! So because of that, maybe it gave the donut a different consistency/texture. Unfortunately, it missed the mark for my bf and I. Our tastebuds wanted a classic donut taste. But that doesn't mean it's not someone else's cup of tea. A wide variety of options, plus you can just do a simple custom. I did a maple plain. We also got the coffee cake, didn't really have a coffee cake taste. Everyone was very pleasant and patient, explained things to us, offered tips, like eating it fresh with a spoon that way it's not too hot on our fingers. I got a black coffee, it was good with enough body that it wasn't watery and my bf got a cappuccino he said he enjoyed. Here's another favorite dessert spot. Freshly cooked donuts are the absolute best. The warm, soft, sweet donut leaves my taste buds desiring more. I had a Groupon for a $10 purchase and ordered 4 donuts. 1-Chocolate Iced, 2-Cinnamon Sugar, 3-Vanilla Iced with Hot Fudge Drizzle, and 4-Bacon in the Sun. They were all so good. My favorites were the chocolate iced and vanilla icing with hot fudge drizzle. I was greeted immediately as I walked in and my order was taken right away. The four donuts I ordered took less than five minutes to prepare. The store is colorful with cute little duckies on a shelving unit which caught my eye. I couldn't wait to get in my car and gobble down one of the donuts. I had to do eenie meanie miney mo' to choose which one to eat lol. It never fails, to go here for a sweet treat! I've noticed that these donuts are good for up to 3 days, (in my opinion)so go ahead and get a half dozen or more. They advertised Special Father's Day donuts in which, anything with bacon is a win win for me. I had one that I'd like to name the bacon overload...OMG WAS IT HEAVEN! Another thing to keep in mind, all the donuts are the same vanilla cake and then you choose your coating, topping and sprinkles. Shop isn't large and I recall a couple tables with chairs but that was fine with me. We were greeted warmly and asked if it was our first time, which it was. So she proceeded to explain the menu, which was a lil overwhelming for me with all the combinations but nothing to complain about. Lols My daughter and I love that there are pictures. I also saw they offer coffee, drinks, breakfast sandwiches and donut platters... My daughter had fun watching them make the donuts and glaze them behind the protective glass. We ordered a dozen donuts (we chose the toppings), a donut breakfast sandwich (was supposed to be bacon egg and cheese but it was - unfortunately - missing the bacon), a black cold brew iced coffee, and a vanilla, sweet cream cold brew iced coffee. The donuts were good - I wouldn't say they are the best I've had, but in fairness, we ordered through DoorDash and the driver had them in his car for 45 minutes (sigh). We ordered the Signature Assortment which consisted of Bacon in the Sun, Beach Ball, Peanut Butter Paradise, Blueberry Pancake, The Boardwalk, Sunrise, French Toast, Smore's, Sand Dollar, The Beach, The Flip-Flop, and the Coconut Island Bliss. The business owner (Dan) reached out to me after my last review, so I decided to give Duck Donuts another go. I'm glad I did! I made a few mistakes in my last review. One, we had the donuts a few hours later so they were no longer warm and fresh. The donuts are all made-to-order and they are 100x better if you eat them right away. The box says you can zap them in the microwave if you don't get to them while they are warm. Second, I had complained that our last order was missing the graham cracker topping. It wasn't, I was wrong. The graham cracker is ground up into a powder so I didn't notice and assumed it was a mistake. Third, I was a bit fatigued when I wrote my first review (had just gotten the vaccine the day before), so I wasn't as detailed and balanced as I try to normally be. Dan is an awesome business owner and I'm very grateful he took the time to show me how great Duck Donuts is. We had a nice conversation about how he decided to open this franchise and he clearly has a lot of passion to make his customers happy and fill them with tasty warm donuts. There aren't a lot of this type of donut shop in the valley and it is a welcome addition. Krispy creme has fresh glaze donuts but limited variety. Bosa has huge selection but the donuts aren't as fresh. Duck has the best of both worlds. Obviously that means it is a little more pricey, but it's totally worth it. If you just want something simple, Krispy Kreme will do the job, but if you want to try delicious donut combinations Duck Donuts is the place to go. This was our first visit to Duck donuts. This is a very nice location with lots of parking and easy access. When we entered, we were warmly greeted and given the lowdown on how to make your custom donut. It's a fun place to visit. They drop the donuts into the fryer and made our three fresh donuts, exactly as we wanted. They took them in the box back to the car. It took about 10 or 15 minutes for them to cool down enough so we could eat them. They were very tasty. We tried the French toast, the maple Blueberry pancake, and the sugar and cinnamon.
