I went to Dublin Auto care with a check engine light on my 2015 Sienna. I had a diag code and suspected spark plugs needed to be replaced. They gave me a days time. They ended up scaring me about engine mounts falling apart and a wheel controller joint breaking any time. Basically normal wear and tear but they made it sound like emergency repair. They pointed out an oil leak I was aware of and asked them to take care of that. Here is what happened: They took 3 days for spark plugs and $1k Replaced leaking valve cover gasket for $250 When I picked up the car it wouldn't start as they had screwed up the battery terminal and initially lied that they didn't touch the battery terminal. Anyways, I had to replace it myself in the end. After I left within 24 hours my tpms shows low air pressure in the tires but there is actually air in all tires with adequate pressure.i got it checked a few times. Within 7 days I saw a lot of oil in my garage from the car. I didn't get a warning but my oil dip stick showed almost no oil. I had to put in 6 quarts. I don't know what more leaks they have caused. It's a terrible place to go and they are incompetent and dishonest! read more

Definitely found my new go-to mechanic. Art is amazing. I called him on a Friday after discovering that I had an oil leak and made arrangements to bring it in the following week. I dropped off the car later than scheduled, and he was still able to diagnose the issues and get back to me with an estimate. There were several issues that he brought to my attention (not surprising with almost 250k miles on my car) most notably an oil and coolant leak, as well as needing new brakes. I needed my car and was unable to leave it at the time, so he prioritized the brakes (thank you!) and we scheduled the other work to be completed a few days later. I didn't realize how bad my brakes were until they had been replaced and I'm so thankful he was able to do it so quickly. BEWARE!! This shop is a nightmare. Started off by calling in to set an appointment for a Volkswagen, the owner basically scoffed over the phone and reluctantly says he'll take a look. Already off to a bad start if you ask me. I then go to my appointment and the owner basically acts like I am not even there and has me wait on him for over 30 MINUTES, while he was in the back. Mind you I could hear him chatting with other employees AND after he saw me enter the shop. After this I could not in good conscience let this unprofessional, rude, shop work on my car. What an incredible automotive repair shop! I recently moved to the Dublin area and I've been looking for a mechanic that is knowledgeable, trustworthy, and that provides quality work at a reasonable price. Based on my personal experience and lengthy conversations with these guys, I would not go anywhere else. Art and the rest of the team are truly amazing and they really care about the work they do to the finest details. Not only that, they go above and beyond the scope of work to make sure that you are satisfied. I truly felt that Art and the team gave me the white glove treatment on my 1987 BMW 325I. Prior to finding Funks/Edge, I called a few other shops for estimates and they were just plain silly based on the scope of work. Luckily, I found Funks/Edge online and was pleasantly surprised to see all the amazing reviews, so I gave Art a call. Let me tell you that this was a game changer! First of all, Art and I must have spoken for at least ~30-45 min and I knew I was in good hands. I explained to him what I wanted to do and because of his extensive knowledge, he was quick to point out a few other maintenance items that I should consider since they would be working in that general area. The very next day, Art gave me a quote as promised and it was very reasonable and competitive. To be honest, pricing is very important, but to me, it's pointless if the work being done or the people you're working with can't be trusted. Art and his team are exceptions in every way possible. The work was finished on time and Art's team went above and beyond in a few areas. For one, they found a few covers that were originally missing and also informed me of some questionable work that was previously done. Secondly, I've had a weird clutch issue and their team went above and beyond with trying to diagnose it and also bled the system to rule out hydraulics at no charge (at least an hour right there!). Thirdly, Art stayed in constant communication with me through the entire process. There's plenty more, but let's just say that I was very impressed! To sum this up, I'm an automotive enthusiast and I'm very particular when it comes to having others work on my vehicle. I had the most amazing experience and I will keep coming back to them. A good mechanic is hard to find, so I called around to about 6 or 7 shops in the area and explained my situation. Every shop advised that It would cost me $100-$150 just to figure out what the issue with my vehicle is. I stumbled across Funk's Auto Works on yahoo, and it had good reviews so I gave them a call. Art at Funk's was the only shop that told me to bring the car down and he would take a look at it, and was willing to work with me. He is very professional, reasonably priced, does good work, and by far one of the most honest mechanics I have dealt with. He was able to pin point the issues, and also referred to the dealer for a recall. All done without breaking my back on pricing. Like I said, a good mechanic is hard to find. For 10 years while living in LA, I trusted my Nissan Maxima with Beck's Auto in Pasadena. He was the best when it came to Nissan's and other foreign cars. Now living in Dublin, I needed the same for my 2003 Honda Accord and my wife's 2004 BMW 325i. About 2 years ago, I found Funk's after trying several different mechanics, including dealerships and "specialists." Art and his team are the best in the area - hands down. They are completely transparent when it comes to your cars' issues (I've had a radiator replaced on the beemer and recently, the A/C compressor in my honda). I've also had minor things done like replacing a plastic screw in the wheel well of my honda, and replacing a headlight. I was referred to them by two different sources and they proved to be right when they said he took care of business. He got the job done and fixed the problem I was having with my vehicle (after the dealer could not even diagnose the problem) I believe they focus on foreign cars (BMW, Lexus, etc) but I brought my GM SUV in and they was able to fix the problem I was having. I'm sure for the basics, they can work on any vehicle. I almost gave 4 stars just because the work took a little longer than originally expected and they did not communicate that to me right away (I had to call a few times to check status). However, when I stopped by and realized they had truly been swamped all week, I understood why there was a delay in getting status (I have been there myself, in my line of work). I took my BMW to Art Approximately 2 months ago. For the Normal BMW valve gasket leak to get the gaskets replaced. Art knows BMW's as this was my first time at his repair shop and talking with him. He did a better job than the BMW dealership does. And about 25 % less. If you have a BMW 325 or 328i after the warranty runs you gonna need a DAD with a big bank account or a Good Mechanic you can trust. I recommend Art very highly. Had my Honda for oil leak and after multiple revisits they fixed the oil leak problem but did a bad job reinstall the power steering reservoir, causing it to spill oil out. No response even after multiple phone calls. Seems like bot busy and work on big ticket items. Will try another time and report back. Updated 30jan2016 Gave the go ahead to replace the power steering pump; since that started leaking . After this replacement, car makes hissing noise when turning the steering and goes bad when making turns. It was pretty quite before and after multiple test drives with mechanic decided to come back if problem persist. Well, looks like it has to go back again. Hope the second time would fix the issue as always. Will see how that goes. Owner was a Pleasonton guy to work with. read more

Someone recommended Funk in my community newsletter to recommend its service, which also offers 50% off labor coupon. I went to Funk to replace brakes for my Toyota car. But it never worked properly even after I drove back to its shop 3 times. They can't fix it and offer me some discount for next brake service. Oh, the 50% discount, the owner says regular hourly charge is $200, so I paid $100/hour with the coupon (which is just same even higher than other car mechanics in my area *WITHOUT* any discount) So I end up: - paid regular price - got very bad service - got very bad parts (it completely tore down after 30K miles) Later I got my car brakes changed in another shop in Fremont, the brakes work perfectly, and even cost $40 less than Funk's funky discounts. read more

Most recently (and what prompted this review): just prior to the end of a BMW warranty I brought my 535Xit sport wagon to the dealer for their final warranty service - a "free" service that cost $400 - and they recommended a laundry list of front end work that would have cost a small fortune. I've been taking my cars to Funks for over 20 years. And I don't write reviews often. You can see I recently reviewed Honda of Oakland as it was time for a new car. In spite of valiant efforts for 150,000 miles on a very sketchy '01 Sebring, (we bought it new to be patriotic after 9/11) it finally seized. Art has had the not-so-enviable of tasks in keeping my three kids' used (I refuse to buy a new Beamer for a high schooler!) cars running. I know he and his master mechanic Louis would rather work on MBZs, Porsches and nice Volvos, which according to yelp he does quite well at, but our 96 Volvo 850, 96 Sebring and 95 300 CE have served us well. The 850 recently hit 200,000! He even gets firm with us when the tires are almost out of life....Thank you Funk's European for keeping our jalopies running and safe. read more
