Get the gyro plate over rice! Get it get it get it! Plenty of food and delicious. For my sides, I got hummus (comes with pita chips or pita bread; I got the chips) and Lebanese salad. My BF got the falafel patties as one of his sides and those were great too. My sister got the grape leaves as one of her sides and it has an acquired taste - a little sour - but she liked it. Their customer service is also great. They are friendly and kindly gave us extra rice without charge! You shouldn't expect this though because they do charge extra for rice. Maybe it's because we bought a lot and also tipped pretty generously. (You pay/tip when you order your food at the counter.) Definitely recommend this place!!! read more

If you want Mediterranean food and you are in Waco, look no further than D's. It can be a bit of a drive if you are around the Baylor bubble, but it's worth it. I recommend the spanakopita - the only thing you'll be okay with flaking on you. For the entree, try the gyro plate or the gyro wrap. The price range is fair and the food reliably good. The restaurant itself is nothing fancy with paper plates and plastic utensils, but that doesn't seem to bother people. I like the quiet atmosphere and the great food! read more

Came to Waco with lots of family for a mini vacation. We were looking for a halal restaurant and decided to try out D's. The food was amazing! Lamb was the only item halal on the day we came. We had gyro, Kafta kabab, falafel, fries, rice, hummus, cucumber yogurt. Everything was flavorful and delicious. Everyone loved it. If you are stopping in Waco, this place is a must. There are not a lot of Mediterranean options, so I am grateful this was available for a weekend trip when traditional southern and BBQ fare were too rich for my stomach. I had a chicken gyro platter with a side salad (lettuce and tomato), rice, and pita slices. The man behind the counter (owner? manager?) was very friendly. Our food was out in good time. It is not the best food, but it is great for the price and in a chill environment. Apparently a neighborhood staple, D's has some of the best Mediterranean food I've ever had. Everything looks and tastes like it's freshly made every day, especially the hummus (which is out of this world!). No atmosphere to speak of besides the most wonderful, sweet, kind owner, who makes up for it in every way. He makes you feel like a regular even if it's you're first time. Favorites are the Lebanese salad, tabouli, hummus, pita bread, pita chips, gyro, spanikopita, lamb kabobs, sweet tea, and the owner. 3rd time having dinner here within a month! I've been going to D's for several years now to get my Lebanese taste fix. It's the only place in Waco that serves this style of food. The Shawarma sandwich is huge and delicious. I also enjoy the Falafel sandwich. The pita isn't homemade but that's my only complaint. Allow extra time for service because they make everything to order. I am so glad Waco has a Mediterranean restaurant. Although I don't know their exact story, they started as "D's Fried Chicken" and now the sign out front says "D's Mediterranean Grill." Maybe they weren't sure Waco would support a Mediterranean menu, but every time I visit, they seem to be bustling. They are located in an area of town that is trying to revitalize. Don't be afraid, it looks scarier than it really is, if that makes sense. I feel comfortable there during daylight hours, and they are only open till 7 pm anyway. A friend who lives in Dallas and I decided to meet halfway for lunch and were planning on going to World Cup Cafe which was closed for Good Friday so we decided to go to D's as plan B. From the outside, it looked very ramshackle and we weren't sure if the open sign was even on but decided, what the hell... First off, I am a native Lebanese so my standards for this kind of food are a lot higher than most people and this was really good! Obviously, they had toned down some of the more pronounced flavors we normally enjoy - mostly salt, lemon and garlic - but I really enjoyed my meal as did my friend. I could tell the owners were from Northern Lebanon and I went back to say hello and chat and indeed they were - he even knew my late uncle which was amazing. I cannot say enough about D's Mediterranean (it's current name). I've been here about four times and I always get the Mediterranean food. I just went with my boyfriend. He had a gyro and I (finally!) had the fried chicken with french fries. Like always, their sweet tea was delicious! We did have to wait a bit to get our food but that is to be expected because it is made to order. This means that your food will be piping hot and fresh every time. The gyro was awesome but not quite enough for a man with a big appetite. However, my four pieces of chicken and fries were too much for me so between the two of us, our plates were cleaned. My food was so hot, I had to wait and salivate for a moment before eating. They have, hands down, the best french fries I have ever tasted! Yes, even better than Kitok's! What really topped off this meal was the fact that it cost about $18 and we were both stuffed. There is no where else in Waco that you can get great Mediterranean food on a a tight budget. Don't move away from Waco without trying this restaurant! By the way, they are open Monday through Saturday from 11am until 8pm. read more

D's is by far my favorite restaurant in Waco! I have never had a dish here that I haven't loved. My favorite are the gyros, either as a sandwich or over rice. They are tender, juicy and so flavorful! The spices are just right. The Mediterranean sides are all great, especially the spanakopita, the dolmas, falafel and the hummus. The dinner salads are huge and delicious as well. My mother is not big on foreign food, but loves D's for their chicken fried steak and fried chicken. It is a truly family run place, owned and operated by a lovely Lebanese couple. They are always welcoming and kind. All dishes are freshly prepared, so they take time. Some people complain about the wait, but I love the unrushed pace at D's. One of my closest friends is from Dallas, I'm in Austin, and yet somehow a trip to D's this was the first time I'd ever had a reason to stop in Waco. It's an interesting place - vaguely Twin Peaksy, for those of you old enough to remember that show. I haven't decided how I feel about Waco itself, but this is a great little surprise. I drove up last weekend to meet a couple of childhood friends who also grew up on authentic Arab food, so our standards were high. I like that they had some Southern food on the menu too (best fried okra I've had!) and everyone we met was very nice. You order at the counter, they call your number and you pick it up on a plastic tray. It's humble, small, curiously located... but the food is very, very good and (huzzah!) inexpensive. Basically, it's what your gramma would cook if she were from northern Lebanon. Hearty, perfectly spiced, home-style Arab food. Sigh. read more

OK Food, Crappy Service!! My boyfriend is vegan so we often look for places we can both enjoy eating. We selected D's after researching online. Seems like its in a seedy neighborhood but was pleasantly surprised when we walked in. Unfortunately, that was the only pleasant part of our visit. When we walked in we were kinda stared at. Here we are staring at the menu wall and finally it clicked to me to ask for a printed window. Two people sitting at the counter and not once did anyone ask "May I help you?". The old lady had a VERY bad attitude. Like we were bothering her by being there. She even questioned if I knew what I was ordering. Can you believe????!!!! The plates were tiny for the prices. The hummus was good. My boyfriend's wrap seemed to be more wrap than veggies. Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm almost sure the hummus isn't home made! He was still hungry but I refused to keep spending my money somewhere that didn't really seem to want our service. So we left and went to another establishment we had previously patronized. This place was a quick found over yelp after visiting the Waco zoo with my daughter. It is a small but very well maintained family owned restaurant. Owners were very friendly and took time to explain their menu as I am not very familiar with their offerings. Tried the Pita role with chicken and falafal. It was very well prepared and we enjoyed it. Also tried their mouth watering deserts and enjoyed it. Bought a pack full of assorted deserts after our dinner to take with us. I love Greek food and when I discovered Waco had a Mediterranean restaurant, I had to try it. Most ethnic places in Waco are bland and rather sketchy, but D's rocks. I've had the meat plate combo thing once and it was good. I really liked their hummus. It wasn't too sour or anything funky. I always come back for their gyro sandwiches! They are great. And they have really good French fries. Also the prices are around under $10 and that includes a drinks. Good price and good food. Also the father is super sweet and kind. The daughter is ok too. I don't know what caused me to put this place on my "go to" list several years ago but I have wanted to try it for quite some time. I knew it was supposed to have great chicken but the epicurean daredevil in me wanted to try the special fare. I have to say I have not had much in the way of middle eastern food and that which I have had was not memorable. Something, however, made me want to take a walk on the wild side. I read the reviews and thought I might need to go on the internet to research just exactly what is falafel, hummus and baba ganouch. I didn't and turns out I didn't have to. The nice man behind the counter (who I assume, with his wife, was the owner) gave me a patient and complete description of everything. I had the tenderloin kabob with a greek salad and fried green beans. The meat was a little overdone but suprisingly tender and flavorful. The greek salad was great and the fried green beans were wonderful. My wife had the lamb kabob with hummus and some kind of unpronounceable spinach pie. I don't know whether I have ever had hummus before but if you could promise me it would taste like this all the time, I would get it all the time. It is a southern diner atmosphere. The owners were extremely nice. The place was relatively clean. There are a ton of things on the menu that I would like to try. The only drawback is that this place is in a BAD neighborhood. When you see fences around what look like condemned buidlings as you approach, you know you are not in Kansas any more. I felt very confident that I could score a dime bag of crack on the way back to the car (if I were into that sort of thing). I definitely want to come back. I want to try new things and I am glad I found a very good restaurant in Waco, Texas (not a place where it is easy to find a very good restaurant). I give it a smiley face and star. Great little off the beaten path find in an older neighborhood in central Waco. The neighboring area has a good feel, and the owners here were extra friendly! The chickan kabob, Falafal, Greek yougurt/cucumber salad, and Kafta ( ground Lamb, wonderfully seasoned) over rice were simply stunning. Such a nice lunch surprise! Best Mediterranean food in Waco, hands down. The food is freshly made and you get huge portions. Yes, it is a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. The hummus is delicious and the pita is fluffy but my favorite is the pita chips covered in olive oil and spices. The chicken wrap is a good option if you don't want to pay a lot for lunch and their fries are awesome. The beef kabob is expensive but it is prime tenderloin beef and is amazing. The staff isn't the most friendly and it takes a while to get your food but it is worth it. You won't find much better food in Waco than D's. read more
