A little place punching big flavor. We were in town and wanted some Greek food. How can this town literally only have two places?! Lucky for us, we picked the Gyro Shop because this place was easily top 5 greek places we've ever been to and that's saying a lot because back home, we have 10 we regularly enjoy. Off the rip, the gyro meat is outstanding. Cooked properly, fresh, flavorful and down right delish. The cucumber sauce has the right mix of tang to counterbalance the richness of the meat. The pita bread is soft and if it's not homemade, I'd be surprised because it's better than any I've ever had. We'll be heading back again this week before we leave and thankfully, we found a gem for when we visit again too.

A coworker suggested this place for lunch and I'm so glad he did! I had never stopped in the Gyro Stop before in all the years I've been in Killeen. Well the owner said he's been there 28 years! Wow have I been missing out. Upon arrival I was REALLY questioning my coworker's choice and maybe even my safety a little. Downtown Killeen next door to a sketchy thrift store. Yikes. We walked in and were greeted immediately by a very friendly gentleman. We quickly read over the menu and all chose a gyro or in my case the chicken gyro with fries. WARNING!! If you use a credit card there is a $2 UP CHARGE. I know especially on small business owners the credit card companies can charge quite a bit but my goodness. Next time I'll make sure I have cash on me! I didn't realize it came with a tea or lemonade so I didn't grab a cup but later during the meal the owner brought me a glass of ice water. I thought that was very kind, I hadn't asked for one. When we received our food I was very pleasantly surprised and impressed with the freshness of everything and the fantastic flavors! The chicken was so flavorful by itself but with the tangy cool tzatziki and soft warm pita YUM! French fries were good and crisp. I would definitely go back (with cash, during daylight hours) and enjoy more of the menu.

The food is so good. It's very fresh too. Service is great. Best gyros and hummus since we moved here! Definitely worth it! Ambiance is homey.

Off the beaten path, downtown, next to a church, what a GEM!! Was greeted by the owner, Lebanese gentleman so friendly! Lunch special of gyro, fries & drink @ $8.95 --what a bargain! And he delivers on post! Even better! Greek fries are amazing sprinkled with oregano & big chunks of feta cheese. Also ordered dolmas & falafel --wow! Sooooo delicious! Mediterranean menu & everything looks good! Gyro was the size of my hand --perfect size, stuffed full of handsliced lamb and homemade sauce. Every bite was a trip to the Mediterranean. Worth finding this shop!!

Don't be fooled by the atmosphere. It is a little old-school, but the gryo's are fantastic.

We had the privilege of being served by Becca. I don't know if I've ever met a happier person with such a beautiful personality. She made sure my buddies food was cooked properly because of a food allergy. She made a few wonderful suggestions to me and made sure I had all the sauces for my kabobs. The reasons have kind of been piling up over the year, but enough is enough. - I don't understand why the charge for extra sauce is 75 cents to $1. The amount of sauce provided is just never enough - My signature dish here is the fish and chips. Today, they were completely over cooked - very dark on the outside. - The fries were not cooked long enough and I could be wrong, but it seems like the types of fries used here changes all the time - The entire staff (even the guy in the kitchen) are staring at their cell phones. I wanted to take a picture, but didn't want to violate privacy concerns - I miss the weekly specials - it's what drew me here in the beginning. - I've had several of the other dishes, but they just didn't "wow" me. The burger is way too messy, the wraps fall apart after a few bites, and the chicken shawarma requires sauce to have any kind of flavor. I'm sorry to have to stop coming - the owners used to be here all the time, but now it seems like it's just kids running the place. Time to find the next hole in the wall that I like to eat and work at. Respectfully, Marc

We have never had food from that regional cuisine so we thought we'd give it a shot. So stoked that we decided to go there because it was delicious. I got the mixed koobideh with rice and Wife had the beef kabobs with naan, and we both had the Persian hot tea. Wife's plate came out with 2 giant naan, one underneath her kabob, lime wedge, mint, onions, and a grilled tomato and the other on top of it all. Mine had a huge amount of rice along with one chicken and one beef kabob all dusted with sumac, lime, mint, onions, grilled tomato, and a pat of butter. Every thing looked, smelled, and tasted delicious. Seasoned, tender meat-fluffy rice, yum. Yum. Yum. Wife gave me one of her naan. It was larger and thinner than other naan I've had. I tore it into sections and created mini wraps with the meat and rice. Delicious! The hot tea came with sugar cubes and had a lovely rose fragrance. It is an order at the counter restaurant, so make sure you peruse the menu ahead of time so you're ready to order. The decor was traditional and gave the place a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. I decided to order a mini Persian feast: the beef koobideh with rice, doogh yogurt drink, and a saffron ice cream for dessert. This was my first time trying beef koobideh, and unfortunately, this just didn't seem to be very good. The meat itself was okay, decently cooked, and topped with quite a lot of some spice that I can't quite put my finger on. It was okay. The rice though, that is what really disappointed me. Persian rice is usually amazing, but this really didn't seem traditional and it had a strange taste to it. It also came with onion and a grilled tomato, both solid additions. Good portion though. The doogh yogurt drink wasn't homemade like I had hoped, but in all honesty, it still really hit the spot on a hot Austin day. Reasonable price. The saffron rice was also fairly disappointing. Large white chunks (clotted cream maybe? But they were pretty tasteless), gritty texture, not much flavor. Just not really worth it. All in all, a bit of a disappointing dinner in Austin. I'll have to look for a different Persian spot next time I'm in the area.
