We were passing through going to San Antonio and we found this place. Ambiance is good and clean. Food is delicious and rich with flavors. Mr. Raikar is very nice and accommodating. He came and checked if we needed anything, very nice guy. We will be back next time, definitely!!!

Loved the Butter Chicken and Lamb Tikka Masala. I don't like spicy and ordered it mild. They made it perfectly. Yum!

Limited buffet, cold food, only one vegetarian dish, so skip this place. No chutneys or raita either.

The food itself was just OK. I wanted a little bit more from the biryani, and the rice was a little bit mushy. On the upside, the chicken was seasoned very nicely and cooked very nicely. The space is very large and welcoming. It is a lot of food, we got one biryani for two people and still have left over for another meal. Medium spice is relatively good/accurate.

My wife and I had dinner in Santo at Sanjha Indian Cuisine restaurant Hwy 281 & IH20). The only…read morething I can say is that it gets better every time we eat there. Not to mention it is operated by the most wonderful Indian family. Tonight we feasted on Butter Chicken (spicy), Vegetable Biryani (med spicy), and Chicken Palak (medium spicy). The Butter Chicken is chicken cooked in a clay oven and cooked in butter, Indian yogurt, spices, and tomato sauce. Great over basmati or jasmine rice. I ate mine with the Vegetable Biryani. I typically eat chicken or goat biryani but am so glad I went this route. Huge flavor profile with the veggies. My wife's favorite is always Chicken Palak or Saag Paneer. Basically a creamed spinach with chicken or cheese. But that's a wholly inadequate description of a beautiful dish. Vegetable Biryani is Basmati rice cooked with vegetables and spices. These are typically good dishes to try if you're not used to Indian cuisine. We step up our spices a bit. This seems like an expensive meal until you realize we make at least two more meals out of this deliciousness!! We ended our meal with Gulab Jamun (2 pcs) and Kheer. Gulab Jamun is roughly akin to a donut hole sprinkled with a coarse sugar and topped with a simple syrup. Kheer is cooked rice in milk with sugar. Again, another wholly inadequate description. Folks. You are not doing yourself right if you don't give this beautiful, well kept restaurant a chance. It's only one building north of IH20.

HALLELUJAH! SAVED AT…read moreLAST! THE VIRTUOUS FINALLY GET REWARDED !!! * * * College Station has long had a large and sophisticated Indian population - one generally linked in some manner to Texas A and M University. It also has a large population of wannabe international eaters - Wannabe because generally the international eating options are not there. For a long time, BCS was serviced by one and only one Indian restaurant. Having a monopoly they got a huge business. The food was worse than the food you would get in East Texas at the various one-and-only-one Indian restaurants that many East Texas cities actually have. Suddenly, in 2025, free markets actually worked the way economists say they do, and enterprising Indian restauranteurs showed up to service this enormous market. Flowers and banners came down from heaven and the music of flutes and lyres filled the air. * * * The Monk is the most recent addition to this healthy market correction. I can not speak about the earlier rescue arrivals. However, The Monk has long had a reputation in Houston as being an absolutely first rate chain. When I was visiting Cy-Fair, a knowledgeable local informant told me that the Monk was the best food I would get in Cy-Fair in ANY format. While I can't speak for the entire range of the competition (the Houston burbs having some formidable Mediterranean and Vietnamese), The Monk was everything advertised. I was completely impressed. * * * The Monk in College Station is just as impressive as are the Monks in their Houston city of origin. The actual details of what I ate don't really matter. I have never had a bad dish in any Monk. (Okay - except for the salty Lassi. Skip that one.) The decades of Indian food deprivation (at least in BCS) are over. Eat here in confidence.

Food 2/5 Service 2/5…read moreAmbiance 5/5 I came to Monk's at around 8 pm with a party of 5 on a Friday, and it was pretty packed. The place is well decorated. We all ordered at the same time, but the food came out extremely slowly. 45 minutes passed before my friend's food came out, so we couldn't even enjoy the food together. The food itself was decent, but my stomach hurt after I ate, which could be because I ordered the chicken fry biryani at a medium spice level. Overall, I was pretty disappointed with the experience and do not plan on returning.
