I had a water leak in my attic & called a retired relative that referred me to someone he trusted to immediately fix the leak. The experienced plumber that fixed the leak was quick & fast and referred me to using Drystar as a restoration company. I went with it since the plumber was awesome ( but not affiliated with Drystar). Drystar came out quickly with multi fans to dry the attic & removed all the damaged insulation, drywall and baseboard of an affected wall. They sealed off the attic with tape & plastic tarp until it dried out. ( I had to re-tape the plastic barriers myself several times to keep it secure due to cold weather affecting the tape adhesive). My insurance took care of the pay out to me & Drystar... USAA won't talk direct to a restoration company unless you use their preferred vendors . ( So I was a " go between" several times to keep things moving) . The paint job & the drywall replacement was quality work and it looks good. I needed to remind the company to replace the insulation but that was taken care of immediately. I would use them again. Side note : One of the initial Drystar consultants that conducted the estimate of damage & cost that came to my home initially moved onto another company during this whole process & this caused minor delays as well but overall I was happy with the end result. I felt the cost was very fair for the work done. ( the entire process took several weeks due more to insurance procedures ) . read more

Had water damage from a pipe leak in the bathroom.They were referred by the plumber. Tyler came out, cut the wall open, set up all these loud fans to dry it out. Said he would be back the next day between 2-4. At 4:30 we called. He said he forgot to schedule it! Another guy is coming out tomorrow. Then i decided to look at the reviews on this company! Dry star was recommend by a plumber when he found a water leak inside the wall. I was not at my residence but my wife was. They made all sorts of promises. Sounded wonderful. Then reality hit!! Drystar did not know Arizona insurance laws! They destroyed more than insurance would cover. After the they found that out THEY DISAPPEARED! I have requested many times for the owner to call me and EXPLAIN his employees conduct! All this started on September 20, 2024. We are in March, 2025. Nothing from them. Originally Referred to me by a friend and being satisfied. The service I needed originally was the drying out of my home as we had what I thought was a minor flood. They provided a pretty thorough evaluation of things and I learned I'd was bigger than I thought. The process was a bit drawn out waiting on my insurance company to approve things but once that happened they got everything put back together. I feel that the product was even better than I had originally and that what I did pay that insurance didn't cover was a good value. I'll note be referring them if I ever hear of someone in need. Steer clear... Here's why: In February, we had a water heater failure in our condo. The emergency plumber (employed by the HOA) showed up to stop any further damage, and apparently gets a kickback for referring DryStar to conduct the mitigation services. DryStar personnel showed up, set up some fans and dehumidifiers, tore out some drywall, insulation and flooring, and came back a few days later to retrieve their equipment. Soon thereafter, we received an invoice - for $21,316. Mind you, this is for a tiny one-bedroom condo - the entire renovation doesn't even add up to that much. Our insurance company AND the HOA's insurance company reached out to DryStar to discuss their invoice, and they won't return calls. Conveniently, they redirect ALL invoicing calls to their attorney (Ehmke Law). Their delay has created a snafu that has kept us out of our condo for nearly three months. no one can tell us WHO hired them and WHY they were called. It's starting to all seem like a scam to bilk customers out of an exorbitant amount of money. Go ahead and believe the positive reviews that appear to have been solicited or written by friends of the company... they certainly weren't written by people who had to pay their own mitigation tab. They originally offered to draw up an estimate to do the renovations as well. How convenient, right? They failed to provide that, and in hindsight, I'm glad they did. Based on their invoice for setting up some fans and dehumidifiers (guess who paid for all that electricity, by the way), there's no way I'd have hired them to continue the work. Lawyering up as a pre-emptive maneuver and avoiding any communication might buy them some short-term profits, but they failed to check out who they were working for. The only thing I can say about them is that they arrived quickly. However, renting two fans and a dehumidifier, removing linen closet shelves plus a small section of ceiling doesn't appear to be worth $2,200, but that is exactly what it cost. Price seems exorbatant to me but it appears to be what most water mitigation services routinely charge. I will never allow a plumber to bring in a water mitigation company in the future. read more

The stand alone cabinet you bought in the photo below, is to replace the cabinet and door your company lost. Not only that, but the cabinet you bought is not in the quote, not in the scope agreed to match my cabinets, not part of your cited line items (doors not included), and was not agreed to by me. I am not paying for your companies mistake of loosing my door. If you want to make charges fair - pay me for the lost door. After I fired your company, I did finally agree to pay for all materials within scope. That cabinet is not in scope and is me paying for your company loosing my cabinet door. Your company refused to remove the cabinet from the materials. The other half you left off - the opening threat was made by your company. I was told in the 2nd sentence on the phone, if I did not pay your full material costs you would take me to collections - which is a threat against my credit. As you stated - I don't do business by extortion. My response to that immediate threat was; if you are going to make me pay for all your materials, take me to collections and impact my credit, that means you stand by your work. If you stand by your work and take me to collections, I will be happy to post photos of your work. I said repeatedly in writing and over the phone, I will pay for materials in scope and that excludes the cabinet you bought to replace what you lost. I didn't post anything until you sent me to collections over this cabinet. The opening salvo of threats was by Drystar to me, not the other way around. This is your company's work day one. AVOID! In fairness to the restoration side (we dealt with Garrett who was exemplary as was the work his team did), it's the mitigation side of Drystar which we have the issues with. Overcharging. You get charged $153.39 for them to answer the phone. Item #1 on their invoice "Emergency business call - during business hours". Yup, wasn't after hours..... Debris "hauling" - by their own invoice they removed 48' of 3" baseboard and 1 sq ft of drywall - hauling/dump fees $117.85 "Monitoring" - Ha, whatever! We have a log sheet from one of Drystar's workers showing 3 days of monitoring. We know for a fact he never came on the middle day at all. Customer service - oh yeah, there wasn't any. We complained to Robert Simonon about the issues we had. He wasn't interested in them. All he wanted was to get Drystar paid. Now I have no issue paying a fair price, just these weren't fair. I brought up the fact that the tech said he'd been there monitoring when he clearly wasn't. Robert's reply, "I am not sure if there is some confusion or miscommunication here. But I spoke with Alfonso and he stated he recalled doing the check ups so I am not sure to be honest." Miscommunication? How about outright lie? "I'm not sure..." Do they even care? Robert's reply to our inquiry about the exorbitant hauling charge (they could have thrown it in OUR garbage bin there was so little!), "We have to dispose of damaged materials and when there is demo we bill for a Haul Debris charge." In other words, here's a flat fee and we'll add it even if it bears no resemblance to the actual work done. Machines - This seems to be a great area for adding a little extra. Per their own invoice, there's a big disparity between the 3 rooms, one which had little damage, yet was almost the most expensive to fix. "We follow all IICRC Guidelines and it has been approved per the adjuster." How would we know if those guidelines were followed? Given all the other items, that quote must be suspect. And we cannot see those guidelines as the document containing them is a paid download. And, no, it wasn't approved by the adjuster for the size of equipment - perhaps the number. We would NEVER use Drystar again. Having been over 15 years in the construction industry, contractors in the industry already have a less than stellar reputation - Drystar (mitigation side) did nothing to improve that. It's sad to say this as Garrett and his team did a great job of working with us, and doing right by us. The rest...... read more

A microburst hit my house. Drystar was initially responsive and arrived with a dehumidifier. Then days went by. I called to remind them we needed testing and demo done. Each step required multiple requests for action. When I explained what I needed done as a customer due to future plans I had for the space the damage occurred in, my requests were largely ignored. I simply asked for the ceiling to be repaired at the joists so that I can install lighting in the future without dealing with a jigsaw puzzle in my attic space. I was told by Noah that 'it's done this way all the time' and received contradictory statements from Martin about how their demo guys don't necessarily see what is needed for the restoration guys to do a good job, and that they'd make it right. That was last week. I am STILL sitting here in my house with no ceiling in the kitchen or laundry room, and no follow up has occurred, even after attempts at follow up. I work for a major homebuilder in the valley, and I can say from experience, without a doubt, do not use this company. read more

They were on top of things in the dry out/deconstruction phase but the reconstruction has been like pulling teeth to get installers scheduled. I called him cause I was told he would schedule someone for the "final touches" so I called and he says " what final touches" Umm the toilet that was taken off, the door that was removed, the base boards??? I also call once and he said after I said my name. "Yeah" The floor guy took 30 hours (3 days) to do a one day tile job in a BATHROOM! He left our front door wide open several times even after we told him we have animals. If you want to work your full time job and make all the calls go with this company. Between showing up hours late for jobs, canceling appointments and rescheduling them a week later, and weeks with no response unless we call them, this place is horrible! Unfortunately, I have to update my review to one star. Like someone else before me, the mitigation portion of this company is pleasant and easy to deal with, however, on the repair side it is the complete opposite. I have endured 3 missed appointments and a serious lack of communication. Every time I would call in and find out what was going on, the person on the phone would say they had no idea that an appointment was set and that someone would call me back. It wasn't until I threatened to cancel that someone did finally call me back. His subliminal attempt at placing the blame on me for the missed appointments was the last straw. I have since terminated my contract with this company and have informed State Farm (my homeowners insurance carrier) of my experience. Drystar has been flagged by them to warn other potential victims of their incompetence. It's truly a shame that it had to get this bad, however, I cannot justify taking 3 days off from work to wait for someone to show up and have them flake. 3 appointments missed in a row is unacceptable and clearly indicates that this company lacks the professionalism and competence to provide me with a successful resolution. Took ions and tons of outreaches to put my kitchen back together and once it was it was done incorrectly; it was not a big job. The shelving wasn't put back on and there were gaps in the cabinets where debris can get into. They are eager to help to get payment from insurance and exaggerate repairs for more payment. I was literally asked if I wanted a new kitchen because they could get it out of insurance, so I was cautious. After that I kept getting asked what else I wanted done. Upon reading some reviews, I'm glad I avoided more work otherwise I'd be out money it seems. To make things worse, the person coming out to my house to put my kitchen back together called me and asked ME how much drywall was needed. Worst experience with a business ever. I was told from the beginning that my restoration of my upstairs bathroom would be back as is after a leak. At first it was going good with the drywall. Drywall work and group were great. I was told they would take care of insurance claim and i would owe my deductible but that changed. I had to pay my deductible, what the insurance paid and sent me and a few hundred over which they said I'd get back after completion. Getting a hold of someone for the next step tile, cabinet and questions was very difficult. Brayden was horrible. I work from home so I was open to any time and it still was such a delay on every single thing or getting a call back. Tile workers left me scraping stuff off my stairs for days. The vanity was removed and broken during their tear down so a person came in and added wood to the side looks like trash. Tile is cheap of course they couldn't match my original. I guess I had certain expectations from the start and should have asked the plan how it was going to go back as was. The guy that came out in the beginning said it would be back as was that the tile could match my house -- that is all tile. So that whole bathroom looks pretty trashy now. In the end, they said they would bill my insurance and the overage I paid over my deductible would be refunded but all i got was an email to sign that stated it was okay on my behalf for Drystar to bill and get paid directly for my claim but I already paid them for everything. Insurance sends homeowner a check for services so that seemed shady because they can't bill twice..? So I didn't sign it. Didn't get the overage I paid and I'd rather lose that money than deal with one more person from the company again. Don't recommend read all the google reviews/BBB complaints I wish I did. read more

Worst Company Ever! They came right away to do the drying when my water heater busted, but after that it went downhill. The laundry room they had to replace the floor five times because they couldn't get it right. The fourth time they were doing the flooring they met some guy off of craigslist and met him in my front yard and just left that stranger here to do my flooring, which it ended up being sideways and with rocks underneath it. The flooring I have now is some thing that they had somebody put on that I'm not happy with and would prefer to have had the linoleum that I had before. They got paid from the insurance company to paint one bedroom, the laundry room and the garage. Most of the garage was done, partial laundry room and not much of the bedroom. They took months and months to do the little bit of work which my neighbor said they had done by another company a few years ago in just two weeks time from beginning to end. While they were doing all of that they had to keep moving my washer and dryer out and broke the pipes in the back and I had to pay someone to fix that. I also complained to them that the dryer was now making a noise and they said that one of the legs are broken off but that they rigged it so it wouldn't make that much of a noise. It started off with having a new sink put in and the person from Lowe's recommended DryStar. DryStar came immediately and explain how they would dry my kitchen under the sink out and then give me a whole new kitchen without having to pay a cent. He was one smooth talker. Called my insurance and explain what DryStar was going to do for me. My insurance lady said that she would prefer to work with her people. So from then on my kitchen was tore up couldn't use it they put in a plastic sink in there for me. And then I waited for it to dry. Then they came out tour of the kitchen put it all in the backyard. And would clean it up after it was all finished so I put the wood pieces into our garage so they wouldn't get ruined. So Time pass by and then they came out and we put the kitchen semi back together with that plastic sink then they were waiting for the countertop person to come out in the meantime they gave me a bill for the amount for the restoration now I have received money from my insurance company a good faith money and I knew I had $1000 deductible. So I paid them right away so it wasn't in my bank and I wouldn't spend it since I'm A fixed income. And thought I was a bit done paying for it I had asked if I was done paying for it they said yes then about a couple weeks later I get this phone call stating that they were the accountants and lawyers for DryStar and I owe them another $3700 to dry out the sink so now I'm in the hall for $3788.88 that was nothing I knew was coming. This company really worked me over. My advice is go with your Insurance company. read more

They came out quickly to the 1st appt to sign the contract, then it got awful...I'm shocked by lack of keeping their word with missed appts and not calling back as promised...and unfortunately needless damage detailed below. Integrity is key in this business...I hired Richard Appel, owner of Drystar, signed their mandatory contract & gave my trust as the sole contractor to work with my insurance company on an unexpected water damage claim Jan 2019. At their 1st visit to home, men placed wrong tape instead using turquoise duck tape on modern home ceiling to hold plastic for taking out counters on insurance claim access, immediately pulling off the smooth texture mud & paint from professional drywall ceiling at the site unnecessarily causing more damage to home. They continued taking out the 3 cabinets and in this process, dented the side of the stainless steam dishwasher, hit both sides of the hanging shoulder height dark cherry Thomasville cabinets above their work on either side, leaving obvious pale wood unfinished gouges and then removing remote powered under-counter 15" tv combo unit, dvd, music player, they left broken pieces found on the floor which control the unit to remain flat when not in use. Richard Appel's men immediately apologized, said no worries they will take care of the damage. Next step & 2nd visit, his 2 estimators come to do a full total of the claim and pack out. They said they would have totals probably by end of Wednesday or Thursday. Instead a week later I call and ask if they have them ready to go over and they said they would get back with me. Then one of his men, said they have too much other work and won't be continuing with this job; dropping their responsibility. Their contract specifically reads to please contact them before the Registrar of Contractors, which I did following not finishing the totals I was waiting on. Again, no response. I turn as see they have given me their business card asking me to go on Yelp and give a review. Very disappointing, they were paid in full within 10 days as their contract demands and absolutely NO actions towards addressing and completing promptly this matter when I asked by calling and by written email to date as listed again in their contract to do. They took things out of my kitchen, packed them up and broke them! They took things that they should not have and threw them away costing us a lot more money. My plumber recommended this company after a small flood. I wish I had read the reviews and more importantly the reviews that aren't rated, somehow all the bad ones are thereFriendly and helpful at first but it there service quickly falls apart. I think the company means well but the guys in the field either don't care or are not knowledge enough in customer interaction or their process. It's water damage, it messes people's life up and they want to have an idea of when and how it going to get back to normal. Again this company is unable or it's employees are unable to convey their process. It took a phone call with the owner to get things somewhat back on track. The final day they were supposed to come out and collect their equipment they were 2 hours late and didn't bother to take a moisture reading. They completed the work in one day, two days after contacting them. My contact and the workers were professional and tidy. We hired Drystar for a relatively small restoration job. I was told by Garrett, the project manager, it would take 1 maybe 2 days. Well, it's been about a month. Mostly due to poor communication with the project manager and the workers as well as his lack of communication with us. The workers either showed up to do the work or called me ON the day they were coming to do work. NEVER a few days ahead of time so I could plan for it. Also, the clean up was sloppy. They refused to do specific things that we requested throughout the job. Instead, just ignoring the request. I do have to say the actual workers that came to our house were extremely polite and respectful, but very unclear as to the direction of their job actually was. What an amazing company! From my first call with Robbie to meeting with John to meeting Marty for the start of the clean up. They were so fast to respond to our needs. We had a condo that flooded and they got there so quick and started clean up right away. They had to remove cabinets, all appliances, and furniture had to be trashed. This is now be my only go to company for restoration services asnd i highly recommend them to anyone!!!! I would give more then 5 stars if I could. read more

Drystar sure came out fast. And they also talked the talk, but even trying to get free of them, I am still dealing trying to get my countertop they only in final days of dealing, took for "safekeeping" at the last minute after weeks in the carport, while promises to take to safekeeping no showed. Drystar finally took the bar counter into their storage, now I can not even get them to respond to my asks to get it back. Earliest on, they demanded it stay on site, then they agreed to carry it to my storage, no showed, and then, after I started calling out their bluffs and stalls, they do me a favor and finally give in to something we obviously needed, as a big gift. Perfect hostage trope. Dear Drystar, please give me back my property: you have been paid thousands for packout. People out there, beware your emergency not be Drysars opportunity to take your home and loss of use hostage, and now in my experience, property hostage. I have been told that the ROC specifically enforces that mitigation and restoration companies should not use stall tactics to string up more jobs accessed via an owners emergency needs, and then deny timely service to jobs they have been given authorization for, in order to give priority to "emergencies." But this has exactly been my experience. They even were so bold as to send me a project manager, G, who would expressly tell me they had more important emergencies to handle than actually act as the GC they are supposed to be. But they sure had time to estimate and make and see a check cut and delivered of an additional bid. I had to be the Gc go between finding out the added work to support the added trade work was not a "call us when its over " thing: I felt Drystar was not responsibly a GC, nor forthcoming about availability (or invoices and bids) But now, they continue to put me in the red by denying me access to property critical to moving forward with my work, items they have been paid to packout. And yes, that thousands of dollars for packout does include that last minute final promise keeping of caring for that countertop, especially since I was repeatedly denied a packout invoice for weeks, denied until after we start to settle up the full refund owed me because I could not tolerate Drystars irresponsibility without calling them to account, giving them yet another chance to face shortcomings on site I my home. Martin brought his worst-spoken young man, G, out to bait me to fire him, but who quit when being pressed to give account per his ROC responsibility and designation. Now I get no response to emails, texts and voicemails asking the counter back. I can only be set to expect low of being able to access my other items they have taken into storage! While we did part with a full refund (but who gives me back over 3 mindblowing weeks time?) I still have to pay someone else to redo and undo things, and my insurance does not appreciate that much, at all. Beware! From the get go, Drystar asking sympathy, making the statement they want half paid in advance was a flag: I would warn others to beware how Drystar positions the customer being granted favors that are actually due the customer, including access to invoices and bids,(yes they had time to get not one but two bids accepted and checks cut for my work), and now, I need to resort to reviews here to get a response to begin to arrange to get my property back! Even as we cleared out a refund of all restoration bids, they only then shared with me in writing, their call on how much they wanted for packout, and only then did I ever get an invoice. Ok? If so, that means I should also be able to access my property they kept thousands and some for, billing me at such a late time in the game. SO beware, this is the end game when Drystar denies you a invoice or slows customer access to a bid, for that matter. Now, Drystar has been paid their full bill for all packout, and yet they will not now respond to my requests to arrange to get my property back. The insurance company (that they are definitely NOT a partner with) now takes the position I chose them, and that its on me to get satisfactory work out of, and they will not pay twice for the same work. Meanwhile, I cant unhear Drystars registrant G's voicing it was a long time since he took his ROC test, and having done work reluctantly and saying all the wrong things, plus needing things redone he referred to as temporary. (since when do you replace a base plate temporarily?) I had been willing to have a break even finally free me to get the work done by others, but Drystar, are you really going to give me the addwork to have to go to the ROC just to get my property back? because its not break even then; its costing me weeks if I don't know if I can access the countertop or not by Tuesday. Today is Saturday, I started leaving messages and voicemails Wednesday. I am only asking for a response to be able to inspect the condition of the item and make arrangements. read more
