Went to Drygate on Saturday, as was visiting Glasgow and wanted to experience a good scottish vibe but didnt get that, actually was presented with a very ignorant bar man.
Waiting at the bar and 1 person serving when there was a big queue and another standing at the bar putting glasses away, knowing that the bar has lots of customers you would automatically serve and present the business you work for in the most professional way. the 'rude barman' when i asked him could he start serving people said to me 'cant you see i am doing something so wait mate'... to that i took extreme offence and said this is a bar that has only 1 serving you should automatically serve and help your fellow colleagues whom are struggling to serve a full bar on their own. I told him not to call me mate as I wasnt his friend I am a paying customer and to have a professional attitude. He then chose not to serve me, I asked to speak to manager and a small guy with glasses came and when i told him about this he wasn't interested but served me my drinks. The rude barman wasn't in uniform but wore a blue denim shirt, and looked like he was wasted. After I had drank my drink I thought I wouldn't let it ruin my experience in Glasgow as a tourist I wanted a good memory of being in Scotland. I went to get another round of drink for my friends and I and again only one server and loads people waiting and looking frustrated. The rude barman then comes from the kitchen area and up to me and says 'I am not serving your kind' while waving his hand in my face. this to me firstly felt like what is his problem. I am not drunk nor am I being aggressive to him and what was he meaning my kind. Was this because I am IRISH, GAY, or had TATTOOS, either way those words coming out of his mouth were discriminating towards me. I said to him I want to speak to the manager his response was 'I am the licensee and I said you's aren't getting served MATE' I then went back and told my friends whom decided to leave as seen my clearly upset. This is a disgrace a place like Drygate having staff whatever he claims his role is working their.. This is getting taken further and I am hoping that anyone who was in Drygate last night between 6pm and 8pm if had similar experience or seen the incident please report it as this bigotry should not be allowed in a workplace. And from reading previous posts on here it looks like DRYGATE dont give their staff any customer service training but prefer to hire bigoted people to represent their brand!
I will not be recommending this place to anyone, and anyone who does decide to go if you get a guy at the bar with dark hair and beard prob wearing denim shirt, take a recording of the conversation for proof that he is a bigoted fool.
