    Loved it. Great Scottish experience, had the terrine and Duck. Duck was excellent along with the beans on the side. Choices of wines by the glass a bit lacking but finished with a nice flight of local whiskeys

    The Bothy is THE place to take your overseas friends and relatives for a taste of Scottish cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere. The decor is verging on the twee - although thankfully they haven't gone the whole hog and put deer heads or displays of claymores and suchlike on the walls - and having the staff all wearing kilts doesn't help, but tourists love it and having been a couple of time now I can see why. Big comfy sofas at the side and a homely atmosphere make for a relaxed and intimate dining experience. There's room enough for it not to feel too crowded even when it's busy (and it usually is), and after one of their speciality drinks you can almost start to feel like you are dining in some baronial home or keep. Really my only problem with the place is that the menu is a teensy bit limited for someone who doesn't eat meat and has a dairy problem. Both times here I've ended up having the fish and chips. Delicious though it is, I would really like to see a wider range of meat- and dairy-free dishes on the menu. Still, the starter of saffron and orange soused mackerel was as close to perfection as you can imagine with the mackerel practically dissolving on the tongue. Herself quickly devoured a pot of mussels with much slurping and obvious gusto, from which I gathered that they were pretty tasty! She followed that with the lemon sole, which with the caper dressing looked so appetising that I almost wished I'd chosen it myself despite the lemon butter sauce. However, I was quite happy with my beer battered haddock and chunky chips. The outrageously dressed rosemary and orange flavoured G & T helped too! Upstairs, they have a large country-decor dining room for parties that can seat up to 22, and a smaller space that can seat 8, so it's a great place to book for private parties. For Scottish cuisine, The Bothy is not quite in the same league as the longer-established Ubiquitous Chip on the other side of Byres Road, but it definitely wins the points in terms of atmosphere and a more reasonably-priced menu.

    Wonderful spot off the main road in a West End area. Thanks to our taxi driver for telling us about this place. Authentic Scottish food so tasty. Tried a scotch flight for only 12pounds. Food was reasonably priced and tasted amazing. Service was great too

    The scallops starter alongside the haggis of your dreams. I wish they'd bottle the whiskey sauce. Gorgeous.

    A local friend recommended the Bothy for a true Scottish experience. I'm so glad we took his advice. All the staff wear kilts and those we interacted with were super attentive and sweet. Everything on the menu looked yummy and I decided to order two starters to have more of a variety: seared scallops with bacon jam and Isle of Arran black pudding and their version of haggis. The scallops were cooked beautifully and paired amazingly well with the jam and crispy black pudding. I've had haggis several times in Scotland, and theirs was the yummiest I'd had so far, complete with a silky whiskey sauce I wish they'd bottle and sell. I would love to return and try more on their menu! We happened to be visiting on a Friday afternoon while a wedding party was having a reception in the upstairs room, so we people-watched as the party ordered drinks and walked by to take photos in their handsome finery. A wonderful surprise.

    We just had our daughters wedding at the Bothy. Food was amazing service excellent and drinks were talked about days later. Couldn't have asked for a better place. We also dined here before the wedding and food was also excellent. Wouldve given them 10 stars.

    I was at the Bothy about a month ago for a family members birthday and I was looking forward to it a lot as I heard several good reviews, but it just did not quite meet up to my expectations. It is hard to pinpoint exactly why as when I reflect back lots of things were good.. Nice table. Friendly staff. Lovely Beer - Innis & Gunn. (One Rum finish and a few of the Original) I think it basically came down to the food in the end. It had been rated so highly by friends that when you go along you expect it to be superb and it turns out the food is pretty average. Cullen Skink was nice, but nothing spectacular. The burger was ....... boring ..... nothing really wrong with it, just a bit plain and uninspiring. Maybe if I had chosen differently from the menu I would have a great experience, but on this selection it was just fairly average food wise and a lot of menu options seemed on the pricey side for what you get.

    Lovely cosy atmosphere with deliciously twee decor and comfy seating, I've been meaning to visit for ages and really enjoyed lunch here. The service was a bit odd, not bad by any means but a bit strange in tone- not quite overfamiliar but a bit of "you're welcome my lovely" etc. I don't mind that sort of chat at all but it's not for everyone. All the staff wore funky kilts which is a sweet wee touch, especially for visitors to the area. They do a "braw deal" menu from 12-6 but i had an open sandwich of chilli hummus and crayfish which was really lovely. Served on a wooden deli board, I loved the tasty flat bread. The accompanying salad was fresh and lively and the skin-on chips which were perfectly well cooked. You could choose soup or chips with the open sandwiches. The pot of tea I had was excellent and the crockery was all really nice to use and great quality. The Bothy is in an absolutely amazing location near to a selection of outstanding antique and vintage shops as well as the cornucopia of delights that is Byres Road!

    I'd never been doesn't this inconspicuous lane off byres road before I think I may walk around with my eyes closed So I look at the map in my phone and thing really.... Down there .... Ok must be let's look.... Walking down it opens up to a delightful lane, I see the Hanoi bike shop and think oh that's where that is, I want to go there too.... But I carry on and my sister spots the Bothy before me (I'm still looking at the Hanoi place) We go in proper soaked from the downpour with my niece and nephew in tow We are seated immediately by a chap in a kilt and the 3 of them lot take over the sofa at the table while I'm sat on the wooden chairs .... Yeah cheers Menu is a great price for lunch especially at how Lovely the setting is inside Order the meals and we are asked if we want the kids meals out as soon as they are ready, this was a nice touch as it happens we did .... Just to shut them up sooner than later, however this wasn't to happen, our starters arrived, still no kids food, finished starter still no kids food, mains arrive ..... Oh there is the kids food now! Lost a star sorry The starter was a fantastic scotch egg, full of flavour and very warm indeed ..... On the outside, little cold on the inside of the egg. Besides that I devoured it Plates removed time for the main, which was catch of the day as recommended by the kilted guy, seared cod, mussels and a lobster sauce, on a bed of slightly mashed potato ..... This was delicious, I finished and looked at my plate saddened and longed for another portion .... Back up to 5 stars!!!! Took a while however to clear away the plates .... There for a while before we could order dessert. Kilted man seemed to doing the work alone .... Should they loose a star..... If I wasn't so happy with the food yes it would be but not this time Ordered dessert however and my god it took ageeeeees to come out .... Kids became uneasy and fidgety it was taking so long, no matter how many "you're ice cream is coming" was said it didn't appease them any longer ..... Lost that star again Desserts arrived and my goodness my cheese cake was easily one of best cheesecakes I have had in years! The kids ice cream however was scooped in to a glass and it seems the glass may have been warm as it had a health puddle of melted ice cream at the bottom of it, or it just took them that long to deliver it that melted anyway The dessert was fantastic but not enough to grab that 5th star If they could speed up service this place is a top Notch eatery.

    My god did we have an amazing experience here! Everything was just delicious, the service great, (I mean, who doesn't enjoy good looking Scottish guys in kilts!) and the prices don't break the bank. They are around the corner from the breath-taking Glasgow college and on a street that is something right out of a harry potter novel. Just magical! The interior is romantic and swanky. What we ordered: *Salmon and horseradish appetizer - just very good. A must order. *Pan seared duck (A special of the night) - fat was rendered out beautifully leaving a perfectly cooked, moist, and delicious duck. I literally licked my plate clean - it was that good. *Lamb flank - again, another perfectly cooked win. Even if you don't usually enjoy lamb - you'll like this dish, *Orange & Raspberry Cheesecake - THIS IS A MUST ORDER. Best cheesecake I've ever had in my life. Not dense or overly rich - but light and fluffy, bright, and just amazing. I'm usually a chocolate person but this dessert beat all the others. *Toffee Pudding - I was not a fan. Very dense and rich. *Chocolate Mousse thing - Again just ok. Go for the cheesecake! Final Verdict: I WISH THEY'D OPEN A LOCATION IN LOS ANGELES. So good! A must stop if you're visiting Glasgow!

    The Bothy is a place that I had always heard good things about but never got around to visiting until Christmas Eve with Ross and his mother. Even though staff were rushed off their feet that evening, the food was delicious and the service was great. So I decided to go for brunch, the best part of any weekend. Forget waking up before 9am, brunch is meant to be enjoyed after you've had a well deserved long lie, that's why The Bothy serve brunch until 3pm. Upon entering The Bothy, it feels like you are transported into someone's house. The beautiful stone brick building has to be one of the prettiest locations in the West End of Glasgow. Cosy tables with sofas and upholstered armchairs adorn the dimly lit main restaurant alongside open fireplaces. In true Scottish fashion, the staff even welcome you in kilts, which is always pleasing on the eye, and are friendly to match. After being shown to our table and offered drinks, I decided to try The Bothy Full Breakfast. Lori opted for The Bothy Vegetarian Breakfast. As Lori also has a nut allergy, she asked our waitress if her vegetarian haggis contained any nuts. A few seconds later after asking the chef, they confirmed that it was nut free. Thumbs up. The menu also states that both breakfasts come with a fried egg, but we were actually offered a choice. I opted for poached and Lori ordered scrambled. I'm not a huge fan of fried eggs outside of my own kitchen so I'm glad we were given a choice. Maybe the menu should reflect that you can choose the egg of your choice? We were starving so it was a welcome relief that we didn't have to wait too long for our order even though the restaurant was packed full of locals or tourists alike either having brunch or ordering from the Braw Deal Set Menu. My plate was overflowing with food, delicious looking food. I loved that both of our breakfasts came with a welcome surprise of some toast. You definitely need a good few slices of toast, especially to dip into beans and runny egg yolks. The Bothy Full Breakfast comes with two Cumberland sausages, two pieces of smoked bacon, potato scone, Stowaway black pudding, beans, grilled tomato and my choice of poached egg. The Cumberland sausages were absolutely delicious. They were some of the best sausages I've ever eaten. High quality, flavoursome and no gristle. The rest of the breakfast was appetizing, but the sausages were the stand out for me. Lori was equally as impressed with her vegetarian breakfast which came with vegetarian sausages, vegetarian haggis, potato scone, beans, mushrooms, grilled tomatoes and her choice of scrambled eggs. Lori loved the vegetarian haggis as it was not something you'd normally get in a full breakfast. I'm also led to believe that the scrambled eggs were light and fluffy. The staff were as friendly as I remembered and even though the restaurant was full, they were very attentive. Overall, The Bothy has to be one of the best places in the West End to get brunch. I loved what I had ordered so much that I've been dying to go back ever since and I think it just may be on the cards again this weekend. The Bothy also hosts live music acoustic sets from local musicians who entertain you as you dine. If you don't fancy having brunch, you can also try their great value Braw Deal Set Menu with three courses for just under £15, you will be sure to get your monies worth!

    Such a quaint, cozy little restaurant tucked along a small side street across from Ashton Lane. The food and service are ok but the ambiance is really what would draw me back if I was ever to visit Glasgow again. It feels like a small little pub, just a bit prettier and dressed up on the inside. My husband and I started our dinner with the tower of Haggis, Neeps, and Tatties in a House Whisky sauce and it was very good, it would definitely be the perfect meal for a cold winter day. For mains my husband had one of their specials, Chorizo and Tomato Tagliatelle in a creamy tomato sauce and I tried the Oven Roasted Rump of Ayrshire Lamb with chorizo, sautéed potatoes, green beans and a rosemary gravy. Initially they brought out a dish that I didn't order but quickly brought out the correct one, even taking my husband's pasta back because it was getting cold as he sat waiting for me. The pasta dish was tasty but it could have used a bit more chorizo and the lamb dish was good, although the lamb was not very tender and I didn't really feel like the components of the dish really went together. They were all delicious in their own right but together it was a bit confusing. For dessert we tried the Blueberry Creme Brûlée and it was a delicious preparation. Overall the atmosphere was great, the servers were very nice, and the food presentation was very good...it was just the food itself that was lacking a little something.

    I have to admit that I was surprised on finding out that this is part of the big scary G1 chain. Though, this place does make a bit more sense to me now I'm armed with that knowledge. The menu has a good range of options and certainly has more than a few Scottish ones in there. This is surprisingly, not that common for most Glasgow restaurants, so makes for a bonus on cold, rainy days. As Catriona mentions, the prices are very decent (especially if you are taking advantage of their meal deals) and this makes it all the easier to convince the boy we should go here on occasion opposed to the infamous Curlers. Admittedly, it is probably due The Bothy being a welcome change from Curlers that I am nudging the star rating up that little bit higher. Although, I also like the secluded location of this place and the relaxed atmosphere. Not the be all and end all of West End restaurants but good for a budget meal and very pleasant to sit in.

They do offer pies and other bar food, but we went after dinner and just couldn't stomach more food, tempting as they may sound.

This was an inspired choice as I thoroughly enjoyed it, even though Adriano disapproved as they didn't make it "right!" Nobody else except me wanted dessert - I was curious about the traditional Cranachan (Scottish raspberries, whisky, cream and oats) - which looked delightful, but was more cloying than light and airy. Overall, a memorable experience, partly because of the drink and food, but mostly because I enjoyed the company of colleagues who are quickly becoming friends.

The menus are always fantastic, and they like to keep it all seasonal so the produce is as fresh and local as possible. There is a good variety of dishes for the munching, but there is usually only one vegetarian option available as a main course so if you have a veggie amongst your number, make sure to check the menu before you drag them in. I had the pleasure of attending a Christmas Lunch with my colleagues at this fine establishment. Everything was absolutely delicious. What I particularly like is that they have veg in bowls for passing around the group, rather than just dish them out regardless of people's preferences. You can have as much or as little as possible. Oh, and all their desserts are amazing, and they have different specials every week. The cheesecake is particularly good (and I shouldn't have it because of my lovely allergies), and they make their own tablet to go with the coffee! The waiting staff are ever attentive, filling your glass with the table wine whenever they spot an empty glass. They're always smiley and up for a chat as well! It's refreshing to see staff that seem to be enjoying the company of the customers. It certainly helps to foster a homely vibe to this charming wee place. Don't be shy, give it a try! Was my friends birthday meal here & 8 of us neatly packed in around one table on a busy Friday evening. Set menu at £16 for two courses and £18 for three (from memory!) They also have specials on, which tonight was a Pork Loin with mustard mash and a rosemary and thyme jus. (Can tell Fiona went for this!) Service was as I recalled & excellent the whole night. We pretty much spent 3 hours in there & the last table out... At no time did we feel anything was an issue for the staff. I had the chilli and tortilla chips for starters & pleasantly surprised at the chips being made in house. Absolutely lifted the dish for me to another level. Cottage Pie for mains & it was roasting! Could have done with room to move the meat around underneath, as some bits were a little oily, but it just needed mixed. Absolutely delicious delicate flavours mind. My only criticism of the meal experience, was the house wine they supply. Simply put at £10/12 a bottle - frankly rotten stuff. We ended up ordering from the buttery wine list to £41 for a bottle of pinot noir, to get something you could drink without tasting the chemicals! At £10/12, you can do a lot better on the wine front - no excuse there I'm afraid. Whole meal itself was a delight & more a dining experience with the quirks of old style plates/cutlery like in the pig and the butterfly restaurants. Will be back here to eat no doubt again & so should you! You Gotta Eat Here - For Sure!! :-D

The vibe tho is grown up, serene and subdued in the best ways, the cream walls were dotted with beautiful abstract art in shades of grey, there was a large fireplace feature, soothing just audible music, fresh red roses on the table (it was valentines!) linen table cloths. It was beautiful and even though it was jumping it felt like a calm and soothing environment. The staff were exactly what you would expect from a restaurant like the Sister - delightful. They were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the service was fast...probably faster than it normally would be due to the date, having said that I never once felt rushed or harassed - the staff were just sharp and on the ball with clearing plates. The menu at the sisters is like a love letter to Scotland, it was loaded with haggis, black pudding, fish, venison, beef cheeks, clootie dumpling and puff candy. It was like head chef Jackie O'Donnell had stepped into my childhood and brought all those foods into the 21st century. I could very easily have chosen any dish on offer from each course, it's an utterly lush menu. In the end I decided to try the haggis, neeps and tatties to start, I never took pictures of the menu so I forget the exact description of the dish. My first thought upon seeing my dish was wow! There was a puddle of glossy gravy, in the middle was a large haggis cake topped with neeps and a fritter....yes a freakin FRITTER!! I was beside myself as I am sure by now you know how I feel about fritters. The food was utterly gorgeous and without fault, the haggis was tasty and slightly spicy, the neeps were light and creamy, and the fritter was crisp and perfect. Gorgeous! For my main I finally decided on the Chicken breast with Stornoway black pudding, creamed leeks & a red wine jus with a side of Rooster tatties & market vegetables to share. Again visually it was so beautiful to look at. Taste wise it was amazing, the chicken was moist and tender, the creamed leeks still had bite and were seasoned to perfection, the big wedge of black pudding was soft and crumbly, the mash was silky and the red wine jus was lush and decedent. The side was also a triumph - the roasted potatoes were crispy golden nuggets of joy and the veg was incredibly tasty, I even liked the broccoli (I hate broccoli) but I loved however they cooked it. After all that food dessert was touch and go for a while, but there was no way I could leave without trying the Puff candy meringue with honeycomb, ice cream & hot butterscotch sauce. Now lets not kid ourselves this dish it basically a plate of sugar in various forms.....but boy what a plate of sugar it was. The puff candy meringue was light and delicate, the honeycomb was crunchy and sweet and the butterscotch sauce was thick and creamy. This dessert is as good as desserts get. It was a stunning gift from the sugar gods! All in all a pretty exceptional meal and up there with the best I have eaten in Glasgow without question. This is a must try restaurant for me and I will definitely visit again very soon.
