The Sisters, Kelvingrove - a perfect meal!
    Alison M.

Great restaurant with some of the loveliest staff, especially Chef Jacqueline! I opted for homemade chicken liver pate with oatcakes and pear relish to start. The pate was just beautifully smooth and tasted great. For main course, I went with pork which was deliciously tender and moist. It didn't come with crackling, but was thrilled when the waitress said she would add some in (it was on with another pork dish on the menu that night). This made me very happy! The dessert was one of the best I have had in some time - a beautifully presented little jar with strawberry jelly, creamy rice pudding and strawberry mousse. I will definitely be back at The Sisters. A lovely intimate atmosphere with a great selection on the menu, and food cooked to its best!

The Sister's is my go-to restaurant for a special occasion with family and friends; this visit was no exception as it was mine and Kris B.'s anniversary so we paid the Kelvingrove restaurant a visit :) We booked in for the pre-theatre menu (£17.95 for 3 course plus a complimentary glass of wine), which has the best choice for a pre-theatre menu I've seen for a long while. There's a great mixture of meats, fish and veggie dishes to cater to all tastes. I opted for the chicken liver pate, the fish of the day (cod fillet with chorizo, new potatoes, garlic butter and broccoli) and their signature dessert: puff candy meringue with honeycomb ice-cream, cinder toffee and warm toffee sauce. Kris tried the deep-fried goats cheese with a tomato dressing and leafy salad, pork chop in gravy with black pudding, chive mash and braised red cabbage and opted for the puff candy pudding too. All I can say is we were treated to some gorgeous food; tasty and obviously great fresh produce. So much thought and effort is obviously put into each dish. From homemade oatcakes with my starter, to the tomato dressing on Kris', the attention to detail is fantastic. The highlight for me was my fish of the day. The cod was perfect and the accompanying chorizo appeared homemade. The smells alone from the dish were amazing; the perfect mixture of fish, spicy meat and garlic and it reminded me of holidaying in Spain (random I know!) The service is also first class; our server was attentive and made sure we were happy and kept re-filled on our drinks, kept us right with the specials and was excessively polite and chatty. Overall the Sisters' once again gave us a lovely celebratory meal and proved that good food is accessible to all without a massive price tag!

The Sisters is some the best Scottish cuisine at an unbeatable price. You can always find a special offer on their website and I can not express how amazing your value for money is. Local Scottish ingredients and modern twists on traditional recipes make The Sisters the place to eat in Glasgow. You'll want to save room for the Puff Candy Sundae--trust me!

Scallop and venison chorizo starter (£5 supplement on deal)

We went here on a deal night, which seems to be Sunday-Thursday. It seems a bit expensive otherwise. Deal is 2 courses for £16, 3 for £19 which is pretty good for what it is. Some of the meals also have £5 supplements which seem OK for what they are, but not great. For starter I had scallops and venison chorizo (£5 supplement). Was pretty decent. The quality of ingredient is high. But it was pretty plain. For main I had ham, mash and kale. While all bits were brilliant, the meal missed a sauce to make it a complete meal. Again pretty plain. Pudding was great. Can't remember exactly what it was. But both puddings we had were great. I wouldn't massively recommend this place. But the food was nice enough. I wouldn't be happy paying full price though, deal was the only reason why it was worth going to. But even then I'm not sure I'd rush back again. Other places seem a lot better for the same price

So glad I finally got to try here, having tried the Jordanhill venue and not being wowed. Admittedly, in the middle of summer and very early. Last night, was a booking for 8:15, which was a great time as there was already a buzz about the place. Walking straight into the serving area is a little odd! I loved the simple tartan decor, elegant without being really tacky and touristy. I also loved that the ladies loo, had a sofa, 2 ladies were nattering in there for about 15 minutes!!. The food was impeccable. My Dad opted to have the starter and main from Great British Menu and he said they did not disappoint. I loved the Old Country Rose china, as my Grandma has it, so made my whole family smile. I tried a bit of the smoked haddock bon-bons and they were so crisp on the outside, yet still soft on the inside and not greasy. My crab fishcake and scallops were also incredible. The mains were also of a really high standard. The standout had to be the popping candy meringue, so much sweet on one plate! If I could have it for every desert, that would be great.

We went here for the Sunday deal, less than £20 for 3 courses, which was fantastic value for money! I had the beetroot and goats cheese starter, which I absolutely loved! I chose the fish for the main which I enjoyed, but I was glad I hadn't paid the a la carte price, as it felt a little dry. My boyfriend had the ham and his was dryer than mine, definitely needed sauce. Pudding - now that was as good as the starter, fantastic! We opted for the meringue puff and the White chocolate mousse. The meringue puff was lovely, but a bit too sweet for me, but the white chocolate with the pistachio cake and strawberry jelly was an absolute delight! I would have had 3 if I could!! Overall a nice meal out for the deal price but I wouldn't go at full price, and I probably won't go again until the main courses change.

From the moment you step in, you can tell you're in for something special. The atmosphere is gorgeous -- a bright glass ceiling, lush plants all around, and a rustic stone floor that creates the perfect mix of romantic and relaxed. It feels ideal for a date night but also welcoming for families and friends. The food here is definitely on the high-end side, and while the portions are small for the price, what you're really paying for is excellence. Every bite showcases the chefs' skill, creativity, and attention to detail. The quality and flavor are absolutely superb -- the kind of dining experience you simply won't find anywhere else. We ordered the Pigeon Breast, Bramble, Chicory, Walnut , the Tenderstem Broccoli and the Organic Arran Leaf & Herb Salad with Mustard Vinaigrette, and both dishes completely blew us away. The flavor combinations were thoughtful, unique, and perfectly balanced. This is one of those special spots worth treating yourself to at least once. Whether it's a romantic evening or a celebration with friends, it's an unforgettable dining experience on one of Glasgow's most charming lanes.

The menus are always fantastic, and they like to keep it all seasonal so the produce is as fresh and local as possible. There is a good variety of dishes for the munching, but there is usually only one vegetarian option available as a main course so if you have a veggie amongst your number, make sure to check the menu before you drag them in. I had the pleasure of attending a Christmas Lunch with my colleagues at this fine establishment. Everything was absolutely delicious. What I particularly like is that they have veg in bowls for passing around the group, rather than just dish them out regardless of people's preferences. You can have as much or as little as possible. Oh, and all their desserts are amazing, and they have different specials every week. The cheesecake is particularly good (and I shouldn't have it because of my lovely allergies), and they make their own tablet to go with the coffee! The waiting staff are ever attentive, filling your glass with the table wine whenever they spot an empty glass. They're always smiley and up for a chat as well! It's refreshing to see staff that seem to be enjoying the company of the customers. It certainly helps to foster a homely vibe to this charming wee place. Don't be shy, give it a try! They also have specials on, which tonight was a Pork Loin with mustard mash and a rosemary and thyme jus. (Can tell Fiona went for this!) Service was as I recalled & excellent the whole night. We pretty much spent 3 hours in there & the last table out... At no time did we feel anything was an issue for the staff. I had the chilli and tortilla chips for starters & pleasantly surprised at the chips being made in house. Absolutely lifted the dish for me to another level. Cottage Pie for mains & it was roasting! Could have done with room to move the meat around underneath, as some bits were a little oily, but it just needed mixed. Absolutely delicious delicate flavours mind. My only criticism of the meal experience, was the house wine they supply. Simply put at £10/12 a bottle - frankly rotten stuff. We ended up ordering from the buttery wine list to £41 for a bottle of pinot noir, to get something you could drink without tasting the chemicals! At £10/12, you can do a lot better on the wine front - no excuse there I'm afraid. Whole meal itself was a delight & more a dining experience with the quirks of old style plates/cutlery like in the pig and the butterfly restaurants. Will be back here to eat no doubt again & so should you! You Gotta Eat Here - For Sure!! :-D

They aren't reinventing the wheel, their dishes are just plain tasty. Our starters -- Marinated Olives (£4) & Chicken Skewers with lime & coconut yoghurt (£7) -- prepped our palates for richer courses to follow. Our side of Onion Rings (£5) was coated in a light, airy beer batter. To add to the festival of fried foods, I chose Fish & Chips (£19) as my main which had the same beer battered coating. Flakey cod paired well with the tangy tartar sauce. I only wish it was served with more traditional mushy peas instead of the one-noted crushed peas. BF also enjoyed his order; Filet (£37) was tender, flavorful, & well seasoned. For dessert, I had one of many Sticky Toffee Puddings (£7) ordered on our trip through Ireland & Scotland, as well as a Chocolate & Strawberry Eclair (£8) which I thought was the most creative dish of our meal.
