Couldn't recommend the Clachan any more!! It was an exquisite experience from start to finish. Food was delicious and all staff provided amazing service and were so friendly. We started with a scallop appetizer and two bowls of Cullen Skink soup. The scallops were nicely played and amazing on the pallet. The soup was out of this world with smoked haddock, potato and vegetables. After or appetizers we enjoyed a chorizo and red pepper pizza and salmon and vegetables. Hands down some of the best food start to finish we had while we trekked through the entire county of Scotland. Highly recommend enjoying a meal here. read more

This is a Interesting place that is surprising large on the restaurant side. We enjoyed our meal but it seemed our server left after we order, someone else brought our food and then nobody checked on us until we paid. Despite that we had a good overall experience. The puff pastry starter was good, fresh and pretty tasty. The herb salmon was wonderful, cooked perfectly and the veg sides were nice. The pizza crust was quite thin and the topping were spartan but it was still good. At least stop in for a dram their whiskey selection is amazing. read more

The staff are friendly and attentive. The food is served hot and after a long day of hiking tastes delicious. Everyone in our party enjoyed their entree and the soup (potato leek) was yummy. The Sticky Toffee Pudding was definitely a notch above most and unfortunately we had to try many to make sure. We were greeted and sat immediately. To your left is the Pub. First come, first serve. Dogs are allowed. The right side is the main restaurant. Dogs aren't allowed over there, but children are. Ross, was are bartender and he was awesome. Attentive and informative. He was constantly looking for something to do. If all of his guests were tended to he was shining glasses. We loved the vibe of this place! Its historic and cozy. We went on a Friday night and it was hopping busy. - filled with locals as well as visitors. Reservations were a must. We ordered the lamb special and the cheeseburger - both were delicious. Service was efficient - with all servers chipping in to help throughout the restaurant. Both of our meals were outstanding! This was our 5th and last night and dinner in Scotland (before heading to Ireland) and this was clearly our favorite dining experience. We had a salmon special and chicken stroganoff, the latter was different from what I expected and it was unique and delicious. I tried to check in here but it came up that was too far away to check in. I now know why. Whoever had entered the address originally put it down as Main Street, Glasgow and it was appearing on the map on the south side of Glasgow, 25 miles away. Anyway, on with my review. It was a drizzley Fathers Day and we visited the right hand side of the Clachan which is the side that serves the food. The left side is a nice wee cosy pub. I had a lovely Salmon, Monkfish and King Prawn kebab with rice. It was so delicious that I could have eaten another, but it seemed too popular, as it was the first thing to be wiped off the specials board. The receipt has the words 'The Oldest Pub In Scotland' across the top, but I think it's been painted since it first opened. The staff were very good at keeping an eye on every table and I never saw anybody waiting or wanting for anything. All in all it was a lovely drive for a lovely meal. Thanks son. x read more

Seems like there's a shortage of eateries in the village, as there were a constant stream of hungry punters waiting for tables throughout the evening. We hadn't made a reservation, so waited patiently for a table while enjoying the weekly outdoor bagpipes performance in between a pint and some kettle crisps. Top marks for cosy pub ambience. Warm, carpeted, old-school wooden chairs. It's not a big dining area with about seven tables - booking recommended. The food was fine, although my pie was more undercooked pastry disguising a decent chicken and leek sauce. Loved the squidgy chips, though. My friend enjoyed a lamb burger. Chocolate and salted caramel torte was also fine but nothing special. I found it too dry while the accompanying ice-cream was vanilla, both literally and metaphorically - a bit meh. Still, The Clachan does a fine trade serving stodgy pub grub, and that's just what one needs after a long day's walk. read more

This wee gastro pub punches well above its weight and is one of my favourites. I've been here around 10 times with friends. The set menu is pretty uninspiring - standard pub grub for the most part (usually well cooked tho!). This is rescued by the fact that the Clachan has a wide variety of specials on a daily basis - these vary depending on what produce is available. And they're always great. The first time I went I had a herb crusted rack of lamb. I think it cost me 14 pounds, which is very, VERY cheap for this particular cut. It was perfectly cooked (just pink, still moist) and flavoursome. The herb crust could have been done better (most of it seemed to have vanished somewhere along the line) but the meat was so nice I really did not care. Myself and friends have sampled most of the food on offer here since and never sent anything back. This is good honest pub grub, ranging from standard to unexpectedly enjoyable. dishes have included Pecan and apple pie, filo pastry parcels with cheese and asparagus, hearty venison stew, and a 'prawn tempura' which is nothing like japanese tempura but very tasty all the same. The staff in here are lovely and there is some attention to detail - i.e. the chocolates that come with the coffee are nice, veg and chips are always tasty (chips taste twice-cooked which is a good thing in this instance). The bar is nice, it's a lively wee local and there's always a good atmosphere, and a good range of drinks (cask ales and whisky being the main things on offer). The service has always been both warm and efficient whilst I've been in. Recommended after a day's wandering about loch lomond or the surrounding area, or on the way home from the trossachs. read more

What a marvelous and charming place! We stopped in here after a day on the WHW and had a delicious meal. The mushroom and fennel pie was extraordinary as was the steak pie. The dining room is small, though, so make reservations. Beer drinkers be advised: go for the Belhaven draughts. All of them are awesome. read more

We went here mainly for the historical significance of the place (the oldest licensed pub in Scotland-1734) and to have a beer. We ended up staying for one of the best dinners we had in the country. Try the haggus. The staff told us that it was "the finest" and they weren't lying. read more

Starting service was fine. Salmon dinner was quite petite. Don't order if you just finished 12-15 miles on the WHW. Ribeye was meh. I know we're in a rural town on the WHW but for 20 pounds I expected something a bit bigger and with more flavor. Odd thing was, after they brought out the main courses they forgot about us. I had to approach the bar and ask for the bill. Regrettably, there aren't many choices in Drymen. Good luck. read more
