On a hot summer night past 9pm the massive pooch-friendly and child-friendly beer garden was…read morecompletely packed with a jolly crowd of punters that stretched the Balgarth's staff to the limit. They worked their socks off, and at one point even ran out of glasses, but not for long! The food here is generally top notch pub fare that's nicely presented and while a pint their every day lager comes with a larger than usual price tag for local pubs, the customers still flock in. There's a large car park, space in the garden for the kids to run around well away from the eating and drinking area, and patio heaters should the weather get a little cooler (hmm not very environmentally friendly that one!). For evening dining its well worth booking a table. A cheaper express menu is available lunchtime. Childrens and pensionsers menu also feature, and its a popular spot for the morning coffee & scone brigade. Whats not to love :)

**From the perspective of a Canadian tourist** I'd give here a 3.5 I think. Came on a sunny Sunday…read moreevening with friends for dinner around 7pm. When we arrived, we were told it would be at least a 20 minute wait for a table. We decided to hang out in the bar area in the meantime. But as soon as we started walking toward the bar area, a staff member came up to us and said there was a table available. I was a bit confused as a whole dining section was mostly empty and they sat us there, so not sure what the wait would have been for? Anyway. We got a table up a couple of steps in a back round-shaped room, with lots of natural lighting, several half booth/half tables, in a comfortable homey atmosphere. To start, I ordered a mojito, which was pretty and tasty as they should be. I ordered the Vegetarian Platter as an appetizer to split (10.95 pounds. "Brie tempura, posh cheese, nachos, melon, strawberries, rocket salad, vegetable tempura and garlic bread"). The nachos were just a few chips with salsa, jalapenos and a small bit of cheese in a cup, very basic. The veggie tempura had a couple of mushrooms and zucchini chunks. The brie tempura had two chunks and was deliciously hot and melted inside. The rocket salad (which I had never heard of before) seem to be just a bit of greens. The garlic bread was two standard slices. The melon & berries came in a tiny cup. The bruschetta was one slice which we cut in two, and quite good. This platter would be enough as a meal on its own for one person. I was pretty full from splitting it. For an entree however, I ordered the Sweet Potato & Chickpea Curry (9.95 pounds. with coriander rice) which was very good and typical of what you'd get at an Indian restaurant. I could only finish half, so took half to go. One of my friends had the Cullen Skink for an appetizer (5.95 pounds). I had no idea what this was from the name, but it's a seafood chowder, and he seemed to like it just fine. My other friend had the Goat Cheese Burger (10 pounds) which she had tried in the past and remembered loving it. It comes with two onion rings inside and fried goat cheese patties, a pickle, lettuce and side of frozen, but good fries on the side. I found service a bit slow and less attentive than I am used to in Canada, but my friend says that is the norm in Scotland where staff usually leave you alone and you get their attention when you need them. I would come back here though anytime I'm in the area again.

This Farmhouse has two farmhouse Restaurants which is open Tuesday -Saturday, from 6.30pm onwards . closed sunday and Monday. It serves gorgouse home made, , traditional fresh seasonal produce. It does not have a drinks Licence so its a bring your own bottle, with no corkage charges. The restaurants have been running for more than 35 years, one seats 25 ppl, and the other 40 ppl. Dinner costs £26. for a spectacular 4 course dinner, with coffee and petit fours afterwards. Please see below Sept menu taken from their website. The portion sizes are very big to say the least, as well as mouth wattering tasty. The desert table is Heaven for sweet Lovers like myself, there is usually at least 6 different deserts, which you just go and help yourself as often as you like, all home made, same as everything else. They also do Bed & Breakfast. This Farmhouse is very popular, and we would recommend booking in advance, as its always busy. Its set in the Ayrshire countryside, and has ample parking outside the farmhouse. The staff are all lovely and once you arrive, you are shown in to a lovely living room to look at the menus and decide what you are going for, before being taken through to one of the two restaurants. The owner/cook always comes and speaks to her guests before they all leave. This place is a treat to come to all year thru, but its especially beautiful at the Festive season. Go give it a try, we can promise it will be a first of many visits there on after.
