We stayed at the Seamill Hydro on a complimentary over night and ate at the orangery resturant.
The food was fantastic, and if it weren't for the poor service I would have awarded 5 stars.
The setting is stunning and as it was a nice night we sat outside with views over the firth of Clyde and over to Arran and Goatfell.
Ok the food:- we shared a starter, which was the Gratin of Garlic Chicken and Herb Potato Gnocci, whilst it was delicious, the portion size was tiny and came served in a massive flying saucer shaped plate which was bordering on the ridiculous given the size of the portion.
For main I had the Garlic and Thyme Slow Braised Beef with a bourguignon sauce, buttered Savoy cabbage, baby carrots and creamed potatoes. This dish would not have been out of place in a 5 star hotel. It was fantastic. My partner had the grilled duo of fish (catch of the day - Salmon and Cod) with muscles, white wine cream, little gem lettuce and crushed baby potatoes. She loved it and said it was fantastic.
The service:- during our meal it was totally fine, although I would say the young staff need a bit more knowledge of the menu. I ordered dessert at 9.45pm and my partner ordered an Amaretto only to be told at 10pm that the kitchen staff had gone home and I wouldn't get my dessert. I then ordered a further Amaretto for myself. At 10.15pm we asked if we would be getting our Amarettos and were told they were on their way. At 10.30 2 cocktails arrived (not what we had ordered). We cancelled the drinks and went next door to the bar area as it was now 45 mins since my partner had ordered her Amaretto and we were still no further forward.
A shame to end a delicious meal on a sour note. read more
