The menu has so many Scottish foods in it, there's no doubt this is a Scottish fare restaurant. I did have to look some of it up because even other Scottish restaurants hadn't had things like cranachan or rumbledethumps on their menus. Ordered were: bread, beef stovies, lamb rump, slow braised beef short rib, cranachan, and chocolate brownie. The beef stovies is beef stew with a potato pancake hat served in a cast iron cauldron. Very cool presentation, and quite a tasty stew inside. I liked the small cut of everything, so it was easy to eat. The lamb was so tender and flavorful, without being overcooked. I substituted rumbledethumps for the polenta so I could try some, it was a lot like mashed potatoes with some extra flavor in it from the cabbage. The black garlic emulsion was a little earthy but went with the lamb so well as a result. My only fault would be the mint drizzle being too sweet for my taste. The short rib was masterful, essentially fall off the bone, and a good herby rub. The desserts were a step down from the mains. The cranachan felt like it had bromelain in it, breaking down my tongue as I was eating it. Outside of that sharpness, a very tasty and solid dessert. The brownie was heavy and fudgy, so if that's your type of brownie then it's here for you. Otherwise it's too much on a stomach already packing the amazing dinner preceding it. All in all, what a place, what a meal, recommended.

That's exactly what we got. We walked to the Chip after visiting the relatively nearby Kelvingrove Museum. It's in a not-too-touristy area with tons of nearby restaurant options and hidden in a little alley (or "close") off Byres Road. There are multiple "venues" within Ubiquitous Chip - 2 bars (The Corner and The Wee...) We ended up at the Wee ahead of our reservation time, and the bartender guided us well with a dram after asking for something he thought was great that we'd have a more difficult time getting back in the States. (Ledaig). Both bars were pretty packed, so we wandered back and forth between the 2 until a spot finally opened at the Wee Pub. Our reservation was for the main dining room (not the Brasserie). There was a lot for us to enjoy as vegetarians. We rolled our own tasting menu with a plate of Scottish cheeses (typically a dessert item on Scottish menus, but we stand by the legitimacy of cheese for dinner). All 5 cheeses were vegetarian (ie no rennet) and served with a nice chutney and 2 different types of in-house-made crackers. It was delightful. We also had the BBQ Carrots dish...it's two carrot chunks, soft-cooked, charred on the outside, served on a delicious bed of sauces with a lovely Indian curry vibe. We got a salad with honey mustard dressing, fennel and shaved celery...it was very fresh and a nice counterpoint to the cheese and carrots. We also got potatoes, which were topped with creme fresh and light herbs. The potatoes were a little dry and light on flavor, but dipped in the creme and also in the leftover sauce from the carrots dish, they did the job. Service was stellar and friendly. Dining in the main restaurant makes you feel like you're outside. There are live plants everywhere, and a ceiling made up of windows like a greenhouse. You can see the brasserie, the more casual restaurant, on the second level (though, honestly, the main restaurant didn't feel unnecessarily stuffy like some fine dining restaurants. This was the perfect place for us to have a final meal in Scotland with plenty of food, drink and friendly service that left the perfect taste in our mouths.

The food included traditional Scottish eats along with modern items like tacos (which we skipped because we come from the land of great Mexican food.) Fav was the trio of traditional "spreads". One was meat, one was carrot, one was potato. You could never guess by description or photo but it was great since I was looking for traditional Irish food. It was farther from our hotel but worth the recommendation by our concierge. A bottle of rose for us was 30 pounds. Easy. Service was only okay for us. Food and atmosphere stood out.

The team behind Finnieston favourite Firebird recently took over so the place has seen quite a lot of changes. Out the front there's new seating which I know will be lovely in the warm weather (when it arrives). Inside is a lot lighter and brighter - I love the colours and there is some really funky embossed wallpaper going on too. They've updated the food menu and seriously, I want to eat it all. But more on that in a minute. The bar menu has changed too so the beers and wine are now a bit cheaper - old McPhabbs had oddly expensive booze but it's nice to see the prices come down. When does that ever happen? Ok, so the food menu. I love this menu and was really excited by everything, but I have to admit I've had the same dish twice now because I loved it that much. Soft. Shell. Crab. Burger. Oh my days. It is as good as it sounds and that's without me telling you that it also has kimchi (spice punch!) and avocado (soothing deliciousness) on it too. It is seriously so good. You need to eat it. At £11 it's at the pricier end of the burger scale but it does come with chips and it's crab! So you can't really complain. Other things on the menu I plan on eating shortly are: beef short rib tacos, fontina mac cheese, Vietnamese summer rolls. There's also a tasty sounding sandwich selection. There's another outside area out the back which is a nice little deck area and the function area downstairs has also seen some changes which I won't spoil for you. You need to go see yourself! So yeh, I've got to say, I am a huge fan of the new McPhabbs and see myself visiting all the time.

That crispy seasoned batter is making my mouth water just thinking about it, I can't wait to get it again. The 7 spice fries are great, really well balanced with heat taking its rightful second place to flavour. For dessert I went for, well, not a dessert but a Salted caramel hard shake - glorious. Vanilla and cream leads to a light hit of vodka and the sweet taste of caramel. Winner. Quite content but not willing to let a dessert go to waste I finished off the wife's lemon meringue baked Alaska. The meringue was so silky smooth and the lemon was just the right amount of sharp to compliment it.
