    Guest beer from overtone
    Brendan S.

My wife and I walked by and decided to stop in. The selection of beer was great. They had plenty of their own beers, as well as a large selection of guest beers. Their NA selection wasn't bad either, as my wife is pregnant and was looking for something without alcohol. Cheers.

Shilling offered a great respite during our multi-day tour of Glasgow. The staff were attentive on both of our visits. They were also friendly and enthusiastically suggested some sights to check out while we were in town. The pizza had a crispy crust and just the right amount of toppings.

I really enjoyed myself at SBC! Bartender helpfully recommended the local version of Guinness and it was great. Wonderful place to meet locals. Lots of tables were reserved for the early Saturday Evening rush, but a nice waitress was able to shuffle us around to find seating. This is a more "posh" place than others close by

The venue itself is gorgeous. Well designed, in a great building, they have obviously spent a lot of money on it. So they got the first rule absolutely 100% right. Great environment. As for the second rule, the service is decent. not great but pretty good. As for the third rule, I didn't try the food, but this is a Brewery, so on to the beer - it's not ready for prime time. I tried four pale ales, none of which qualified as a pale ale. All of them were overly sweet and lacked on bitterness. "These Streets" gives you strong hints of pineapple, like a juicy IPA, minus the hops. Too much like fruit juice to qualify. Next is the wandering eye, with a hibiscus aroma, and a hint of sweet tea on the pallet, again, seriously lacking in bitterness. The US Pale is anything but; hazy in color when it should be clear - a mildly smoky, but mostly sweet aroma, reminiscent of Swisher sweets; the flavor is very fruit juice. Last I tried Happy Chappy. A strong aroma of burnt rubber, with a smoky flat finish - not great. As the venue is incredible, and we've got some owners really understand the business, or show it seems, let's hope they get their brewing up to snuff ASAP. The brewmaster is not ready for prime time, but hopefully will get there soon. Let's look for some more complex, brighter, hoppier notes, and dial the sugar way, way down for cleaner finishes. I wish them the best of luck and hope this place succeeds.

It's awesome to be able to get flights

Well, over 20 taps, great brewery feeling. sight glasses at each tap and the serving tanks right above the bar. Awesome service amazing beer amazing atmosphere. I am dealer from the US and I've been to many breweries in the UK so far and this is my favorite beers I have found.

If I was a local, I'd be here all day everyday. Good pizza + good beer, what else do you need?! Tons of tap choices at reasonable prices. Great ambience that's perfect for couples and groups alike. Even the bathrooms are swanky!

A new pub you say? They brew their own beer, you say? They sell pizza too? Ok, thanks Yelpers, obviously this had to go to the top of my "to visit" list. I got the chance last night. First impressions: The interior is really lovely and I am far from the first to discover the place. It was just the right kind of busy when we arrived at ~7pm on a Thursday night, with a good atmosphere but still a couple of tables left. We ordered a couple of pints and took a seat. So the beer is indeed brewed on site and the brewing equipment isn't hidden. I'm not sure if they do tours but if they do I think I'd like to go on one. Over the evening we tried the Glasgow Red (my favourite) and The Steamie as well as another IPA and a wheat beer. While the Glasgow Red is a pretty classic red ale the others all seemed to have something more interesting going on. I guess that might not suit everyone but I enjoyed it. Having read Briony's review I knew I had to try the lamb mince pizza which is also topped with aubergine, almonds, fiery red chillies and mint yoghurt. The chillies were hotter than I'd normally go for on a pizza but that's just me being delicate. I removed a couple and really, really enjoyed it. These pizzas rival some of the best in Glasgow. I think they might be my partner's new city centre favourite too. The staff were pretty great too and, although it was busy, didn't mind telling you a bit about the beers and letting you taste them if you want to. We'll definitely be back.

Craft beer and pizza.... Mmmmmmm That's my general thoughts on both pizza and beer, so when I heard there was a new place doing both in Glasgow I was keen to check it out ASAP. First impressions were that it's quite swanky inside and not the usual style of bar serving craft beer. They have invested a lot of money it seems and it has been used to put together a very nice looking venue. On the beer front they have around 15-20 taps (I think), but sadly a load were taken up with Tennents, Guinness, etc. (catering to all tastes I guess) Still on a positive note they brew some beer on site and three were their own brews. I had a really enjoyable Unicorn IPA and I got to try the blonde they did as well. It was also pretty tasty. Again another plus is they have about 15 bottled beer options, there was a few I had not tried which always makes me happy. We did not want to leave without checking out the food to, so we shared a pizza. We went with the basic mozzarella and tomato and it was lovely, right up there with the tastiest pizzas in Glasgow. They have a proper pizza oven and chef and it shows. They appear to be serving up a very high standard of authentic pizza. All in it was a good experience. It's nice to have another place in Glasgow brewing beer and offering something different from the norm. It's not cheap, but it's probably average these days for city centre. They major plus point is the nice pizza the do to go with your selected IPA.. Definitely worth a look if you like beer, pizza or both!

I popped in for a quick drink on a Thursday night while I was waiting to meet friends for dinner. Inside is a completely different look from Horton's - it's modern, classy and has some really interesting decor - probably not what you'd expect from a brewery/pub. It's more upmarket than most and so you can happily go in for a drink when you're dressed up on the way out somewhere and you won't look out of place. I was on my own and the staff were incredibly friendly and chatted to me while I sat at the bar so I didn't feel like a total nigel. I initially wanted a cider but then spotted Little Creatures sold by the bottle so got a bottle of that - it's a lovely Aussie beer and not that many places in Glasgow have it. I like that Shilling are brewing their own beer, right in the heart of Glasgow. You can see the tanks behind the bar and as you go downstairs to the loo, there's a brewing room you can peek into (I don't think you can just walk in there though! It is available for private functions). As well as their own beers they do Drygate, Williams Bros, Guinness and Tennents on tap, plus bottled options and cider. I don't know if they have any wine offerings. The other thing I like is the pizza and the open kitchen so you can see the pizzas getting prepared right in front of you. I have tried the food but it was at a launch night so I need to go back before I can properly review it - I will say the lamb mince pizza was CRAZY good and really impressed me seeing as I don't even like lamb. That's what I'll be ordering next time I'm in. I like this new addition to Glasgow. It's doing something a bit different and from what I've experienced, it's doing it well. I know some people are put off by the idea of "craft beer bars" thinking they might be pretentious or snobby, or hipster, but I do genuinely think this place has mass appeal to most tastes. I'm looking forward to going back for a proper try of the food very soon.

Another addition to Glasgow's exponentially increasing craft beer pubs. This is a pretty nice addition in the city centre. This is just a bar review (surprise surprise) and have yet to try the food. They make a big deal out of their pizzas so I'm sure they will be worth a try. Visited on a Friday evening a few weeks after opening and it was, not surprisingly, pretty busy. Inside though there is a ton of space, the super high ceiling makes the place seem huge, though there's space at the back which is a bit more cosy. The decor is pretty nice, with large beer hall style benches and a nice bar. Probably the coolest thing about this bar is their own range of beers are made on site (you can see some of the brewing equipment behind the bar). Naturally I tried their own range of beers. Special mention to The Steamie though, this was a cracking beer, tons of flavour and dead easy to drink. Only drawback to the selection on offer, half the list of beers consist of some standard pub staples, so they could be a little bit more adventurous with some of their guest beers (guess this will change over time). Definitely worth a visit for the beer lovers in Glasgow.

Mind that time you only ever had a choice between Tennents or Carling when venturing out for a few evening pints in Glasgow's city centre. Now there are pubs in the middle of the city with a full blown brewery in them like in the recently opened Shilling Brewing Co. We visited on a Saturday at around 8 and were pleasantly surprised to get a table despite arriving unannounced. The space is big with high ceilings and the hints of a brewery behind the bar. In some ways it was very similar to the businesses that had been there before whilst still being different enough to feel new. Having gorged ourselves at the Merchant City Festival we skipped the pizzas, that looked pretty good, and went straight for the beer. Having never knowingly had a sample from Shilling 4 of our group went for the beer flight. 4 1/3 pints in a funky copper holder for £7. A price that was subject of much debate at our table as it appeared to us that if you were to buy the 4 drinks in the same volume separately it would have been a couple of quid cheaper, a riddle we never actually bothered to solve. I thought the beer was good without being amazing, with Glasgow Red being the pick of the bunch, although I would have liked to have a free choice on my 4th instead of getting what I was given especially as 3 of the options are only advertised. My pint of Black Star Teleporter was my favourite with that classic coffee and chocolate flavour that any good porter should have. Prices (flight confusion aside) were very reasonable considering the market with pints hovering around the £4.00 mark and halves and thirds available whilst a full bar was available for those with less hoppy tastes. It's nice to find something like this slap bang in the middle of the city centre and I'm sure I'll end up popping in again in the future if only just to see what the pizzas are like.

    "Unfiltered". These sound lovely.

It's cozy, crowded, and buzzing with life -- often standing room only and packed shoulder-to-shoulder with locals and travelers alike. If you're a whisky fan (or even just whisky-curious), do yourself a favor and try one of their Scotland whisky flights. It's like taking a mini tour of the country's whisky regions without ever leaving your barstool -- and without worrying about driving. The bartenders really know their stuff and are happy to guide you toward something you'll love. A quick heads-up: no football colors allowed, which keeps the atmosphere friendly and relaxed no matter who you support. And speaking of friendly -- the locals here are as welcoming as they come. This is exactly the kind of place where Scotland's famous pub culture shines. Prices are surprisingly reasonable too, so you can sample a few drams without feeling guilty. Whether you're a seasoned whisky nerd or just looking to experience the local vibe, this is the spot. Pull up a stool (if you can find one) and enjoy a proper Scottish night out

They do offer pies and other bar food, but we went after dinner and just couldn't stomach more food, tempting as they may sound.

Well, they did give us a splendiferous spread with copious plates of delicious food to try. In January they had a Winter Sale on with some meals available at £4 and £5 so decided to take advantage of this with my bestie and fellow Yelper Angela B. As a result I ended up with a taste tantalising wee mac and cheese topped with bacon bits including a wee bucket of chips. Not bad for a fiver. Boom! I've also frequented for drinks and they have an excellent bar selection, there's even some cheeky fruit beers in there. Yay! I would highly recommend popping in for a wee swally or a sit down meal within the designated dinning area. It's pretty, it's relaxing and the music is pretty good with some 90's indie beats to tickle your ear drums. Other music probably plays at other times. It's also bang smack right in the middle of town so super handy but ladies beware of the icy blast of the hand-drier in the toilets. Ice burns beware! Please note, not in the Urban Dictionary sense. I opted for the taster plank - 1 third of a pint of three different ales, served in a plank with the beer names written on. That in itself is a great touch, a few places don't identify which beer is which. I had a Casear Augustus from Williams Brothers, a Fake Lager from Brewdog and a Witless IV from Red Willow Brewery - as you can see, there's a great range to choose from and the staff were really helpful and knowledgeable about them all. While I was looking around and supping my drinks (the Witless was the pick of the bunch, fact fans!) I noticed the menu. I knew that The Raven were offering food, but wasn't too sure what. Looking at the menu, it looked pretty nifty so I figured I'd just eat here, and I was glad I did! The food is BBQ based - low and slow smoked pork, burgers, ribs, that sort of thing. There's been an explosion of this kind of food in Glasgow recently, I perhaps lay the blame at the feet of Adam Richman and Man vs. Food (my dream job too, it has to be said) but I'm not complaining! I opted for a pulled pork burrito with a side of spicy cheesy fries, and at £9 for the two, it was a steal. They arrived quickly, the fries in a basket and the burrito served on a platter. I was given cutlery before the food arrived, and what looked like a carrying case full of sauces, salt, pepper, kitchen roll and a great sight, a wet wipe! A great thing to have when eating what is esssentially finger food! There wasn't a long wait at all for the food; The burrito was lovely, really filled to the brim and fresh - but the spicy cheesy fries were stunning. Covered in jalapenos, cheese and a smoky, spicy BBQ sauce, they were quickly devoured. I could honestly have had a second helping of those on their own. A great first impression here, not just for the great food, but for the really helpful and friendly staff, and the attention to detail that the whole place shows. It's somewhere that I can see me returning to time and time again.

The overall flavor really grows on you . It reminds me of like a Neapolitan shake ( heavy on the chocolate and strawberry and no vanilla ice cream ) with a crap ton of added fermented strawberries and maraschino cherries and maraschino cherry syrup . If I was the chef I'd tweak this by adding a rum flambé banana slice or just banana in general would be so nice .
