Great beer selection. Tried the thin crust pizza and it was very good. Good and friendly service.

We were looking for a pub that served haggis and found ourselves here. From the outside, you could easily walk by and not even notice this place. Once you walk downstairs and into the restaurant, there are multiple rooms and sections that make this place bigger than it appears. We were led all the way toward the back to be seated, so don't be too intimidated when you first enter and see no seats available. This place is perfect for both drinks and food as there is a variety of selection, especially beers. I opted for the Innis & Gunn Original (£4.60) while my friend settled for a bottle of Ginger Ale (£0.85) since she was not feeling very well to drink alcohol. As for food, we shared the Nachos (£4.95) with Pulled Pork (+£1) and Bier Halle Big Share (£11.95), which came with BBQ wings, deep fried haggis and black pudding, deep fried pickles, sliced bratwurst and spicy sausages, 2 pretzels and sauces for dipping. The sharing board was beautifully plated and came with plenty of food to fill the both of us up. The only thing I wish they had was a cheese sauce dip for the pretzels, but everything else was excellent. The sausage were smoky, wings were saucy, and all the other fried items were nice and crispy. We did mainly come for the haggis and this was delicious, especially since it was fried so flavor was less overpowering as straight up haggis. Even the fried pickles were sweeter once fried. The nachos were also good, although we may have over ordered with this dish. Overall, great food and great beer --definitely a great stop for the night. They also offer a 2 for 1 deal for their pizza, which has so many options to choose from. If we were more hungry or had a bigger group, this would've been an amazing deal! read more

No parking at all. Perhaps street but not close by. Coming in you still see a brand new bar, that plays sexy electronic music and smells like incense and romance. Surprised that they are very fancy looking place as the entrance does not give the vibe. as you come to the door it looks like a dive bar and once you cross the door it is a whole different atmosphere! The place is fun and sexy. They have free wifi and that is pretty nice. The pies look very good. Very thin crust pizzas. I didn't have any sadly I had already had dinner but this will be next in my bucket list Make sure to look the back of the menu before ordering a drink if u are not a beer drinker. I ordered something cause my go to liquor was not available and then after all I found a cocktail list in the back of the menu. I was pissed. Then after a while I finally ordered the mojito. MOJITO- regret!!! So sour and strong I wanted to scream. Not for me at all. yes the mojito was not great so make sure to take a look at their signature drinks and see if anything else is better, since I didn't like the mojito and the other drink I gave up and left. just for the atmosphere and the way the pizza looked I will come back here, if you go before me let me know how it went! read more

It's undeniably popular, but i've never had good experiences in this place. A while back I was in with my brother when we were joined by a heroin addict, who as well as requesting a pound for the bus home also wanted to tell us his life story while he foamed at the mouth. More recently, me and Ebot thought we'd try the 2 for 1 pizza offer, and proceeded to wait for ages, before the waitress arrived with one sandwich, and no pizzas. the staff weren't exactly friendly either and they made us pay before this calamitous meal which I found irritating, a bit like when a shopkeeper makes you feel like a criminal by holding your banknote up to the light. I think I've been unlucky on my visits here as others seem to rate it highly, but I'm not a fan. read more

Over the last 6 weeks I have consumed a frankly shocking amount of pizza. What with Paesano being on the way home from work, and so many city centre bars and restaurants offering cheap midweek deals, I have found it hard to say "no". I may have reached Peak Pizza. Last night was the turn of Bier Halle, which has always been rammed whenever I have tried to go, so it was nice to be able to find a seat that wasn't outside in a tent. Now, the menu is pretty full on. Aside from the impressive range of beers (including some old faves from Melbourne), there are over 20 pizzas to choose from. I erred between the Tex Mex and Chicken Tandoori, before opting for the latter, and Gem chose an old classic, the Hawaiian. We also ordered chips and croquettes. Order just in when the bill arrives, and this is all before we have even received our drinks. I'm not too sure how I feel about this. I mean, what if there is an issue with my food, or I want to order more? I understand why they do this, and it does avoid having to hang around for the bill, but have a little bit of faith in your clientèle. The food arrives really quickly. Both pizzas have good crispy bases, with minimal crusts. The quality of the toppings is strong and for once the pineapple tastes like it hasn't come straight from the tin. I can't really fault it. The fact it is always 2-4-1 means I am naturally less inclined to not criticise, but this stands up to their competitors. I'll definitely go back to Bier Halle, no doubt. The food is reasonably priced and tastes great, staff are friendly and it is perfect if you need a quick bite to eat before the cinema. read more

Their two for one pizza deal is fab, but it's annoying when there's three of you! We opted for 4 pizzas between us, after all the 4th was free ;) As ever I opted for the Chorizo, P had Tandoori Chicken and M had Pepperoni. To save arguments over toppings we went with Margherita for the last one. Delicious pizzas! Lovely thin, crisp, stone baked base and quality toppings in moderation so as not to overpower the thin base. Accompanied by a pint of their own lager, which is definitely a palatable choice of you can't decide between the myriad other beers on offer. We sat outside until almost 9pm, stealing those last few moments of summer in Glasgow. It's always busy and the music is always verging on almost too loud but the food is great and the selection of beers ensures you'll keep going back. Why is it not 5 stars? Good, interested staff are the exception rather than the norm. Too many bored waitresses lacking in basic customer service skills. A smile goes a long way, girls! read more

So this place is fab for pizza and beer and cater really well for big groups. Been here with both work and post run club. Post run club was great as we could pre book our table and the waitress was helpful with taking orders. All be it she did laugh at how little people ordered booze. With work the staff were also great. Especially when with the 2 for 1 offer we just ordered another pizza. Both times I ordered the spicy sausage pizza with 2 amount of chilli. Will probably go for three next time as it could do with more. The pesto chicken that a few people had also looked great, so that's on my try list. Both times I've been with the offer, it's come to roughly a tenner a head including one soft drink which I think is quite good value for money!! read more

Lots and lots of varieties of beer - lots of bottles, some beers on draft, craft beers I'd never seen before, and a well-detailed menu to help your selection when you have no idea what you want so you can read up on them rather than simply picking the most interesting looking label. I opted for the sticky toffee pudding ale which was delicious (and web search says suitable for vegans). I'll definitely be getting that again. They have a little note on the front of their menu along the lines of please don't be offended at paying upfront for your drinks; not a problem, I prefer this. At around 10pm some overhead lights above the high tables were turned off and it felt like the air con had been turned up to 11; I was freezing! I went to bathroom and was pleased their hand dryer was great as I held my arms underneath for a few seconds for a bit of warmth! We ordered a portion of fries between the two of us mainly because they were described on the menu as 'Stealth Fries' and that got me quite excited. They were just your bog standard skinny frozen fries. They tasted fine, but I feel 'stealth' is going to let down those not of the 'a chip is just like any other chip' persuasion. read more

My first time at the Bier Halle and I loved it! It's down a fair few steps so not the most accessible place if you find stairs difficult. It's dimly lit, basement chic with a tad too much hipster vibe for me but overall still a really cool place. A group of us went for pizzas which were super quick, 2 for 1 and crazy selections like hoisin duck and pulled pork! Very yummy, stone fired, crispy thin pizza :D They had a wide selection of craft and wheat beers which were apparently very delicious. I bloody love this place! I can't put my finger on why exactly but I think it's the combination of amazing pizza and HUGE jugs of beer! The Bier Halle is found down a dark set of stairs, which immediately makes a place more exciting. They do have an outdoor tent set up in Glasgow's bustling high street but I find the dark underbelly of the streets more appealing. We head downstairs and are quickly shown to a free table. This place is always busy but people don't mind shuffling up the big heavy wooden benches to make room for two more. We ogle at the vast array of beers on the menu, both draft and bottles, for non-beer lovers they also have a selection of ciders, wines and spirits. Draft beers come in a choice of half, pint or stein. You need to pay a deposit for the stein. Food choices include their excellent hand made, wood-fired pizzas but we went for a hot dog today. It being a German Bier Halle it had to be a bratwurst. Not so German in that it was smothered in parma ham and swiss cheese but it was delicious Juicy and salty, the perfect accompaniment to a tall frosty beer. A very popular haunt it seems so don't expect to get a seat inside. The marquee just at the front door is though fine for having a couple of drinks and one of their pizzas in (although as pointed out elsewhere it's apparently better for them to do 241 on those - go figure). Whether £4.30 for a bottle of Staropramen represents good value for money is though up to you to decide. Staff were grand and service pretty swift when I was there for lunch in November. 2 for 1 pizza? I'm sold! I'll get the negative out of the way first, the service can be slow. It's fine if you're not rushed for time, which I very rarely am when visiting, but it is a bit of a bugbear of mine. They also seem to "forget" to return change quite often, which I'm used to now so I make sure to make a point of asking for it. Otherwise, it ticks all of the boxes for me. I love when pizza places have a decent selection on offer, which Bier Halle definitely does, and the fact that the pizzas are 2 for 1 is just a huge bonus. I'm a big fan of the hoisin duck, but am also partial to a classic margherita or a bit of chorizo. My boyfriend loves the beer selection, and I love that they offer cocktails too. Not the cheapest, but it's nice to have the option! Haven't tried much else aside from the pizzas but don't really feel the need to, which isn't a bad thing! It's a particular favourite when the sun is shining and the beer garden is out, but with this being Glasgow that's a bit of a rarity ;) read more

I decided to try the Pizza in here because I'd heard it was good. The fact that it was 2 for 1 was also a big incentive. They are pretty expensive, coming in at around a tenner each, but the 2 for 1 makes it good value. They arrive on a chopping board very swiftly, stonebaked and giant. I had a ham and pineapple pizza, with goats' cheese at my request, and Stu had hoi sin duck. It was proper big chunks of ham as well, not the thin slivers or packet crap. Some of the pizza toppings are very unusual, but they work well. The only complaint is that our table wasn't quite big enough for 2 pizzas, and as we cut them we found our boards skiting all over the table, knocking drinks off the side, and whacking waitresses as they walked past. Overall, the pizzas were very well done, and I will be back for another very soon. (on a 2 for 1 days!) read more

Oh yum, yum, yum. I can just about smell the doughy-goodness of the pizza as I write this, licking my lips. If you fancy pizza then this is the place to head. Although the decor is dingy, the doorway is not most inviting and the tall wooden tables aren't the easiest to navigate around, it is worth it for the oh-so-delicious pizza. It is almost always 2 for 1 (excluding Friday and Saturday) so make sure you take a friend to get the most of the deal (and not a friend who fancies two pizzas to themself or chooses something other than pizza - foolish!) Since you will probably have to share a long table with many others, however, it's perhaps best to be avoided for intimate dates. I've never had a problem being landed next to huisances however and it doesn't really feel like you're sharing your table. I always stick to the Margarita pizza which may seem unadventurous but it is so tasty that I think any additions would only detract from it. Served up on a wooden plate with a pizza cutter it can be tricky but it's part of the fun. I'm not a beer gal but I believe the selection is very good as you would imagine given the name. I usually stick to a vodka and lemonade or just a diet coke but I'm now going to have to go back to try the schnapps - any old excuse! Although it's table service they charge you at your table just after you've ordered the food so try to have the right money ready to save any kafuffle especially if there are a few of you sharing the bill. read more

Is this a rant - No. It is more of a correction and possible a revelation to a lot of folks who have been here. Republic Bier Halle does not serve pizza. The food they serve here is very tasty and well-cooked. However, it is a flat thin disk with toppings. No edge whatsoever, It is more a Pizza-Tortilla than real pizza. You get very thin crust that has beautiful snap and loaded with great toppings. But the base resembles a large round egg roll wrapper more than a pizza crust. So, go here and enjoy. The beer and food prices are suitable for the touristy location. But do not put this in the Best Pizza in Glasgow Category. You need to serve Pizza to get that award. read more

Not a big fan of beer or pizza so as one might imagine, I would never be a big fan of this place by default. Not to say I won't give it a go though.. Underground. No signal. Really dark. The first three thoughts that entered my mind, but once I got sat down I adapted well and felt nice and comfy with decent music playing, but through tinny speakers. Not impressed at paying £4.15 for a bottle of cider, which I initially put down to the place being a beer-based gaff.. till I read the menu. All of the drinks are expensive. The pizzas were decent, but would never pay full price for them. From what I gather though, no-one does. The 2 for 1 promo runs all the time basically. Can't say I approve of paying what you order as you order it, it just interrupts the mood. To summarise, if you like beer and pizza, and have money to burn, then this place might just be the place for you. But with Brewdog now open across town, there's a genuine rival to contend with now. read more

Is there ANYTHING better than 2 for 1 pizza?! I really really don't think so! Bier Halle is my go to pizza place in the city centre, and it has been for probably the past 15 years of my life. I can't remember ever being unhappy with a pizza I've had from here, which is pretty impressive! I love getting to sit outside in the summer on the one sunny day Glasgow gets - chilled pint of cider, and a yummy pizza! Mmmm! The Bier Halle was one of the first places I went out for food in Glasgow when I moved here back in August 2008. I thought it was great - the bogof pizzas, the steins of beer, the cool setting, it was all great and ahead of the curve on the craft beer movement (although most of the beers are just foreign lagers rather than a real selection of hoppy ass beers). I've been back many times, and even visited the venue on Sauchiehall Street which has been numerous things - whatever the buzz is at the time. However, on recent visits I have noticed that the pizzas are getting a little smaller and the beer is getting more expensive. And the service can be seriously improved. My personal pizza favourite is the spicy merguez sausage. Super thin base and lovely toppings. Plus the fact it tastes a little bit like a donner kebab pizza but without the social faux pax of chowing down on the real thing at any time before midnight. You know those paddle things your pizzas get served on? The pizzas used to reach the very edge. Now when I look at people's photos here on Yelp there's at least a couple of inches gap. A couple of inches can make ALL THE DIFFERENCE especially when prices are creeping up too. That's why I can only give a 3*. There are better beer places, there are better pizza places. If you must consume both at the same time, the Bier Halle is for you. read more

I have been coming here since I was a student and lived in Glasgow. This was one of our ''go to'' places for lunch that no one in the group could really pick a fault with. 2 for 1 pizzas and beer, what's not to like?! Sadly these days a lot of the places I frequented as a student I've long outgrown....happily this isn't one of them! Ended up in here the other day unexpectedly and was delighted with the pizza and my beer as usual! (Fruli was my selection if you're interested, it tastes like fruity cheerios and makes me feel about 5, in a good way!). However I do now appreciate decent service, and this place can be very hit or miss for that. In my experience you are either served by a busy but happy enough person or by the biggest surliest grump in the universe and you never know which it's going to be. In all fairness, the place does get insanely busy at times but even still, civility never killed anyone! So to sum up, the pizzas are still awesome, the beer selection is still brilliant (something I am better able to appreciate these days), and it still has the cool underground bunker vibe thing going on. Only downsides being if it's rammed to the rafters you don't have room to breathe (common occurrence) or if the service is a bit shoddy. The aforementioned downsides would usually point me to 3 stars but my favourite pizza to date came from here so, I'm firmly in the 4 star camp until that memory fades further! read more

Two-for-one pizzas and more types of beer than I know what to do with! I definitely like Bier Halle and have been here loads of times over the years. However, Bier Halle does seem to have a serious service problem at times. The past few occasions I've been here we've been kept waiting for ages for something simple like getting our plates taken away, or we've ordered chips which then didn't show up. (Obviously we would've pointed it out, but by the time we realised the chips definitely weren't coming, we were well into our pizzas!) Once we didn't get our change given back to us at all once we'd paid, but it was less than what we would've given as a tip, so their loss!! Although the last time I was here, we got our drinks order and food order taken super-quickly, it was just after we'd eaten that everything sort-of ground to a halt. Most of the staff are always really lovely as well, which does in part make up for the often less-than-speedy service! But that's all the negatives out the way, I really don't have anything else bad to say about Bier Halle! It's German-inspired and it has a really cool vibe inside, with long, bench tables in the middle and smaller tables dotted around elsewhere. It's usually pretty busy, so if you're sitting at the long tables you'll probably have to share with other people, but they're quite spacious so it doesn't feel awkward or anything. I've mostly had pizzas from here and I've thoroughly enjoyed all the different ones I've tried, although they do tend to go a bit overboard on the rocket (very easily picked off though so not a problem!) The chips are delicious as well but be warned they are SALTY. A good excuse to order another beer though, I guess! Something else they do warn you about on the menus is that they'll ask for payment for food/drinks after you place your order, but personally this isn't something that bothers me. It is cash only, however, so if you forget that you can find yourself dashing back upstairs! I also once ordered a hot dog (also yummy) and the bf got a pizza, but the waitress said we could order another pizza and take it away with us since they're two for one anyway, which I thought was really nice! The beer selection is also, of course, EPIC and I have no doubt that anyone would be able to find something they like, even if they don't particularly like beer as they also have fruit beers! Can't really speak for the other drinks as recently I've only had beer or soft drinks in here, but they seem to have great deals on shots and things! I used to be a huge advocate of this place in my formative years, spent many many hours and had good times. Perhaps I've grown up, or Glasgow has (or both!), but this places faults are just getting too much. I'll explain: I was last here on a Saturday night in April 2011, just for a couple of drinks. Got a seat/table easily, and it was all downhill after that. Want a large glass of wine for the lady? Look elsewhere, only small glass or bottles. Fine, it's a "bier halle" so there will be hundreds of beers to choose from? Nope. Fifty if you're lucky, and insultingly, many of the "biers" on the menu are actually cider. Pathetic. Like German weissbier? Tough, unless the very average Paulaner or Erdinger are your bag (In this places heyday you could get Franziskaner, Schofferhofe and many more). You could get Weihenstephan on draught, but I wouldn't and I'll explain why later. So... the bill for one beer and one small wine? £9.20. Yep, FOUR POUNDS SEVENTY-FIVE of which was for a bottle of Paulaner (available in Tesco for £1.79). Utter rip-off. Still, you pay big bucks for the whole package, right? The ambience, the service, the atmosphere? The majority of tables on this night were dirty, we were plagued by fruit-flies (unforgiveable) and the toilets have been the same since this place opened. To make matters worse, their glassware is constantly dirty (lipstick traces for the girls and god knows what on the brander beer glassses), even better their waiting staff wash the cutlery in a basin underneath their serving station (dishwashers too expensive?) - would you trust dirty cutlery that had been washed in almost complete darkness? Disgusting. The table service I had previously mentioned stops at 22:00 for some abitrary reason. So if you're in here for a sesh, be prepared to start getting your own drinks when you're worse for wear! Why the owner sees fit to chop and change the service levels I do not know. As the other reviewers have mentioned, Republic does bar food (pizzas etc), most of which is good value. I didn't eat the last time I was here, but have done in the past. I would probably think twice about eating here again after seeing the poor standards of hygiene on display. The music is provided by a dj at the weekends and is a good mix of house/dance, nothing too cheesy which is quite good in my book. During the week it seems to be a mix of cds of eclectic chillout and electro. So there you go - Republic Bier Halle - Expensive, dirty, and not worth the bother. The owner of this place should really get his finger out, because it's going to pot very quickly. read more

I have completely overlooked reviewing this great pub/eatery. When visiting Glasgow I always try to get a few drinks and a pizza here. The place is touristy, studenty, locally and all round interesting. Loads of international beers on draft and by the bottle. The food they excel in is thin crust stone baked pizza. Yum! It is full table service as their bar is dispensing only. No problem as it is only an issue when you try to get up after a few beers, as you were unable to check balance mid drinking. (okay when you go to the loo, but that's it). They are not the cheapest, but certainly not the break the bank kind of visits I have in other central Glasgow pubs. It gets a minus 1 star as the music is quite loud, combined with a low ceiling and you end up having to sign language your orders and conversations. Must visit again soon! read more

So back to the Bier Hall on a sunny evening. The beer was as you expect, cold and beery. Now I'm usually a fan of this place and I'm well aware that the service can be a tad slow, see previous review, but this time it was ridiculous. It was a Friday night but for whatever reason the seating outside wasn't that busy, I'd say 75% full at most. However, trying to place an order was like trying to catch the attention of an already charging rhino. The servers were just not interested, we were a fairly large group (8 growing to about 12) and were not afraid to make ourselves heard but getting served was a nightmare. Even more infuriating was that the waiter/waitresses were conjugating in the middle of the seating area chatting away without ever bothering to look up as we waved frantically on the verge of death from dehydration. The poor service was compounded further by the fact that after one order the server gave us our change and stood forlornly waiting for a tip. After 10 seconds this became awkward, after 15 I was on the verge of tears, I don't like being rude to anyone but I had to bite my tongue before screaming "jog on". I'm not sure if my fellow yelpers do this, but if I'm with a group and were at a place for the long haul we wait until the end of the night and leave a tip as were leaving instead of tipping every time we buy a drink. Anyway rant over; the Bier Halle nice beer and good atmosphere: service MUST DO BETTER. Another night like that and I will be giving the place a body-swerve for the foreseeable future. read more

The pizza is good, the music selection is just genius and the beer selection is great. There are a few problems though: The staff are a bit inattentive by way if being slow to get the signal that you want to order and they always seem to be on the hunt for the sauce bottles once they give you them with your pizza; often during a good conversation with a friend I find myself reaching for the sauce to find that I'm grasping for thin air or being badgered on whether I still need the sauce. The pizza is of very high quality and at £5-7 for a restaurant pizza is a bargain to be had when you and your friend both have a hankering for some pizza-pie. However, you can find yourself in a tight spot if your friend wants a pizza and you just want a beer and sandwich. This is because the size of the pizza (equivalent to a medium size offering at a takeaway) does not justify the £11.50-£12:50 price. As a benchmark for a satisfying (stomach filling) meal I use McDonald's meals where £12.50 more than hits the spot. In my opinion the pizza at Bier Halle, considering it's diminutive size, fails this less than scientific value for money test. Well worth an update and cannot be better than to add a star. Service is back to the good old days. Lovely staff. Beer selection is better than ever. My previous issues with the lack of craft beers is gone. The pizzas are as amazing as they have always been. To add to that there are so many more nibbles and alternatives than there have ever been. This place really is a tale of two halfs. They have an extensive beer menu, amazing pizzas, nice house wine and is in a central location. On the other hand, the servers always appear to be in a mood & it can take a while to get their attention so you need to order drinks well before you want them. The food is so good that we always go back but I still don't understand why the service issue hasn't been rectified by management, or by the staff for that matter. Don't they want tips?! read more

First things first, the name is the "Republic Bier Halle" to me and to all those who remember it from way back, I believe that is still the official name! A bad idea if you want a cheap pizza for one, but a tremendous idea for two people whether a couple or just friends. The two-for-one pizza deal in this long-serving subterranean tavern is legendary. Yes the benches are not the most comfortable, the lighting is subdued, or if you sit facing each other over a table threatens to burn out your very retinas if you even glimpse at it, the service is sometimes a bit slow, but it probably has the biggest range of bottled beers in the city, it has an actual caged rock wall, and the pizza is thin, crispy, has lots of topping and is really very tasty. Hadn't been here in a while which is odd as I loved it... Very very disappointed to see how downhill it's went. Tandoori chicken pizza was minging, it was like a jar of curry paste and a few bits of chicken. One of my pet hates, midgies flying about and lots of them. Disgusting and a sign there is off food in the kitchen. Beer glass was cracked. Incense sticks and hippy music?! Service was ok but not what it used to be. Sad to see this place going to downhill and not being looked after, I won't be going back. :( read more

Great beer selection (although it must be noted that Blue Moon is not a Canadian beer, as the menu says) and good food. The pizza, as another reviewer noted, doesn't have much of a crust; they are more like circular flatbreads. But hey, we took advantage of the 2 for the price of 1 deal. We went for the spicy merguez sausage and the antipasto pizzas; both were yummy in their own right. Service at the bar was very good, but once we got to our table, it felt like we had donned invisibility cloaks. It took several attempts to get any waitress' attention. They all seemed to either be clumped together talking or wandering about, avoiding contact with anyone other than themselves. Despite the stellar location and delicious pizza, I was pretty turned off by the lackluster service and would probably look to another pizzeria before coming back. As long as you have no expectations for friendly service or an engaged waiter/waitress, you'll probably have a decent time. read more

The ideal double date destination! 2 for 1 pizza every day of the week means that you go in knowing there are going to be four pizzas in the middle of the table for you to share. And I'm yet to try a flavour that I dislike. On our last double date visit we ordered what we thought looked best individually and had a slice of everyone else's. Welcome, ladies and gents, to my happy place. We ended up with Stornoway Black Pudding and Egg (hubby's choice), spicy Merguez sausage and a BBQ Pulled Pork (for our friends) and a Goat's Cheese pizza for me. All pizzas come on a stonebaked thin crust so I won't bore you with that detail every time. Now the Stornoway Black Pudding pizza sounds a bit weird. It has a big free range egg in the centre with loads of the best black pudding ever on a simple tomato and mozzarella base. Don't let the egg put you off. It just works. Honestly. I've never been to Bier Halle and not had this put in front of us. The yolk from the egg in the centre acts as a sort of dipping sauce style accompaniment to the rest of the pizza and I don't have to tell you just how good Stornoway black pudding. It's famous worldwide for a reason. Next up the spicy Merguez sausage which came with the option of 1,2 or 3 chillies. I am very tolerant to spice and put jalapeño on everything so I would have went for three but my companions aren't so brave, so 1 it was. Again this was all on that simple homemade tomato sauce and mozz base and again it just makes the most of the beautiful ingredients they've chosen. The sausage had a lovely little kick with warming spices and the chilli adds a nice bit of heat. A really tasty pizza which gives a spicy Spanish twist to a classic pepperoni. It's also available gluten free. The BBQ Pulled Pork came on a sweet, slightly smokey homemade BBQ sauce and mozz base and is simply topped with heaps of tender pulled pork. It was packed full of traditional BBQ herbs and spices and melted in the mouth. It is exactly what you'd expect. The Goat's Cheese pizza, my choice, was topped with the tomato sauce, soft goat's cheese, red onion, red pepper, courgette and artichoke. It is the best vegetarian pizza I've ever eaten. The selection of vegetables and goats cheese work perfectly together. They slow roast their courgette to get the most flavour out of it and the absence of mozzarella accentuates the rest of the flavours. I almost grudged giving some away. Almost. The only thing better than good pizza is many good pizzas after all. This is also available in gluten free. Bier Halle has a safe place in my heart as one of the best pizza places in Glasgow. It's a really relaxed atmosphere and if you're that way inclined they boast a massive drinks menu. I want to try every pizza on their menu as I'm sure they won't have one disappointment. They do other food too but if you go here and don't take advantage of the 2 for 1 pizza offer you're seriously doing yourself a disservice. read more

Do you want the best pizza you can find in Glasgow? - You totally have to go here Do you want a selection of over 50, maybe even 60 beers? - Yes, you should go here! Do you want the great service too? - Maybe best pick somewhere else for that! Oh the pizza, the beer, the dark and moody 'underground' atmosphere. This place made my student life in Glasgow a million times better! It was one of those places when you decide to go out for lunch/tea and everyone just shrugs their shoulders and says in a questionable tone - Bier Halle? And no-one ever says NO! I went back to Glasgow for the day and it only seemed right to go here, the pizzas are ALWAYS 2 for 1, they are amazing and it is a great deal. But the beers are expensive, so I only ever end up having one. And I think they intentionally pick out 'hip and quirky' staff who are always a bit unenthusiastic and to be honest sometimes rude and annoying. Thankfully you don't have to deal with them that much, but I just wish they would hire a whole new set of waiters and waitresses cause based on food, drinks and surrounding the Bier Halle would get five stars. I've been going to Bier Halle ever since I moved to Glasgow and still absolutely love visiting (maybe not in every other night now, getting too old!). There's 2 reasons to go to Bier Halle, 1. the beer (obviously) and 2. the pizza. I'll start with the first one. If you love your beers (in particular European lagers) then Bier Halle should be your first stop in Glasgow. They have a huge selection of bottled beers (particularly Belgian and German beers) including a good 8+ options of draft beers that change often. I'd reccommend a 2 pint stein, not only does it come in a rediculously oversized pint glass, but you get a free bratwurst with it. The beer selection is more on the European end with lagers, wheat beers and fruit beers, so ale/IPA fans may find their favourite selections on the short sides. Also a quick nod to the chilled schnapps on offer for those not loving beer, last time I had them, they were £1.50 a shot and came in numerous flavours! The other big draw to Bier Halle is the pizza, which is best enjoyed with more than one person, simply for the 2 for 1 pizza offer which is on 7 days a week. The selection of pizzas on offer is great, with a wide list of different toppings, first place I tried a black pudding and egg pizza, amazing! The amount of toppings with each pizza is great, probably the most I've seen in any pizza place. Base is super thin and crispy for those who like that. Only drawback I have to the pizzas is the amount of tomato sauce on the base, I always find it a bit on the short side, but with the volume of toppings you get, it's hardly the end of the world. The venue itself is in a downstairs basement, with a variety of seats. At the entrance there's the long style traditional Bavarian halle style of tables, ideal for large groups or if you don't mind sharing with other parties. Through the back there is more table space near the kitchen (open plan). It can get very busy at weekends, so expect to wait for a table, though turnaround is very quick. In the past few years an outdoor area has also been opened. I've only been once, as it was the only sunny day last summer, but it's a fantastic area to sit outside in on a nice day. read more

Went to meet friends here last night. The whole experience was fairly good except for one massive flaw. The food was alright (it's 2 for 1 pizza's so you can't really complain), the service was good, the music itself was a good mix and the beer, well, as you would expect, the range of beer was pretty damn good. BUT (and it's a big BUT) - the music was so loud that we couldn't hear each other properly and spent the meal and subsequent drinks shouting at each other. The waitress mis-heard my order and, on leaving the place, we spent an age standing outside getting accosted by drunks just to catch up. For a bar that would serve as a great place to get together with friends, have a pizza, get some beers down you, it kinda fails. Unless you have the kind of friends that you don't want to talk to anyway, in which case I highly recommend it. read more
