I'd never tried Lamora before it got a renovation + rebrand to Mora Bar & Kitchen but I've got to say, I really like the new place - the decor is slick without being too fancy and there's some seriously nice lighting around the place. The menu is concise (a big tick in my book) and has a really nice selection - pizzas, pastas and mains. There's about 5 in each section and prices are pretty standard - £10 for a pizza, £12 for a main pasta. I was really early for dinner with my friends so ordered a bruschetta to kill off my hanger - it arrived quickly and I won't lie, I was a little surprised to just get one slice of bread for £4.50. It was absolutely delicious but for me, I think 2 slices would be more suitable for that price. I was glad I'd been able to scoff my bruschetta before my friends arrived so they'll never know that I had a sneaky starter without them (except for when they read this review... hi gals!). We all ordered different pizzas for our mains along with some fries and focaccia to share. I got the ham and garlic mushroom pizza which was just lovely - I got it because I've not had that combination on a pizza before, and was very impressed. It ended up being a pretty cheap meal all up and I was really impressed with the food, so would definitely go back for another meal and to try more of the menu next time.

Located in the "coolest" part of Glasgow at the moment, Mora is a fairly new bar and kitchen. We arrived about 5pm on a Saturday and it was very quiet, but by the time we left it was really busy. I think it may be aiming more at the restaurant market than the bar one, but they still did not seem to mind if you were just in for s few drinks. First impressions were great. The staff are a real standout positive aspect. They were so so friendly and helpful. A real five star quality. We sat at benches and a tall table in the middle of the venue and the seats were surprisingly comfortable for being a long high bench. The decor inside is nice. Modern, clean, bright and with cool light fixtures everywhere. Right.... On to the food and drink itself! The whisky menu is great with some really interesting options. Plenty I had never tried before. I am afraid in my opinion the beer menu is poor. Really limited options on tap and in the bottle fridges. The only IPA was joker and I ended up going for a stout instead (March of the Penguins) as there was nothing else I fancied amongst the lagers and blonde beers on offer. That said it was a good Williams Brothers stout, so I was happy enough. Food wise I had a spicy nduja pizza. I know it's meant to be spicy, but this was real hot. Thankfully I like that so it was all good. They do a sort of rustic finish to their pizzas so they come out looking a bit like a flat bread with toppings on. I enjoyed it though. The pizza market is rammed and at a high standard in Glasgow these days and Mora certainly put in a very decent effort. Nice place for a bite to eat or a couple of drinks. I hope it continues to do really well.

I remember when this was Lamora - I used to live off their take-away pizzas and pastas, although I'd never actually eaten in the restaurant itself and I have no idea why. Anyway, because I knew the pizzas used to be so good I was worried that things might have changed in the kitchen when this place was renovated and rebranded. Fortunately I needn't have been concerned. I ordered a ham and garlic mushroom pizza and my partner ordered a proscuitto pizza. Both were perfect. We argued for a bit over who had ordered the better pizza. We swapped a slice or two and argued some more. Neither of us really won but then I ordered the tiramisu which was also delicious so I like to think I scored a point there. Incidentally, £4 for a tiramisu strikes me as a really great price. Mora Bar and Kitchen does look really cool now too. It now has lovely vintage lighting and long tables for big groups or people who are brave enough to share with strangers (don't worry if you're not, there are smaller tables scattered around as well). It's a warm, comfortable place and, although I'm not sure I'd go in just for a drink, it does now feel like you could if you wanted to.

The restaurant and bar has a great vibe and lovely decor.

*****second visit review below***** So.....Luciano, the owner of Moro, got in touch this week and was so very gracious in his response to my review. He apologised, explaining that he understood, as a parent of young children himself, how I must've felt. He also explained that it was their first time using a Yelp promotion and that maybe it had been interpreted incorrectly by some staff, which he'd already addressed. He asked that the kids and I go back for a complimentary meal. I was really surprised and certainly hadn't been looking for a free meal but had felt compelled to write about my experience. I accepted the offer of complimentary pizzas but insisted that we'd pay for our drinks, etc, and arranged to return last night. And I'm delighted we went back. Luciano is a hard working family man who just wants to produce great food and great service. He came out to meet me and we had a lovely chat before being looked after by the loveliest waitress, who couldn't have done more for us (but not in an overbearing kind of fashion: just there when we needed and chatty with my kids and I). The pizzas, as before, were great. The kids loved the fruity mocktail that they made up specially for them. And we all wished we'd ordered the ice-cream special of the day that my oldest had: a salted popcorn ice-cream with caramel and chunks of brownie. It was the perfect way to end the meal. Communication is everything in the hospitality industry and as I said before it's not what goes wrong but how a business responds that is the measure of it. In this case, Luciano and his team measured very highly, and his open communication to me completely won me over.

    Chicken diavola

I'd always intended to eat at Lamora and never got round to it so after hearing many good things about their newly refurbished restaurant I made a point of checking it out. I went in for an early dinner on a week night and the place was pretty quiet with just a few tables of people. I immediatly liked the atmosphere though, it somehow felt like being on holiday (it was one of those rare sunny days in Glasgow!) I like what they've done with the interior, it's modern but reminds me of an old fashioned French bistro, kind of like their neighbour Kelvingrove Cafe. The menu is "modern Italian" with pizza, pasta and grill options. You can do the small plates thing or have a full size portion which is excellent if you're indecisive like me or just want to try various dishes. The menu is short and simple, another thing I really like. They also had three specials on that day too which I think is a regular thing. Other than food there's a full bar and lots of cocktails. They offer a pizza and a cocktail for £12.50 Monday-Wednesday. We shared a margherita pizza, tempura prawns and chicken diavola (spicy chargrilled chicken skewers). Everything was really good, delicious! My only criticism would be that the pizza could have done with a bit more seasoning. The service was perfect and the prices were reasonable. I'll look forward to visiting Mora again to try some more dishes and sample their cocktail menu.

The menu is not that extensive but it has a reasonable variety of dishes to cater for most tastes. I had the calamari to start followed by the day fish special. Both tasted fine, but lacked pizzazz in the presentation department. In general, I thought the food was OK but not particularly outstanding; there are better Italian restaurants around. This place is family run and prides itself on that friendly atmosphere, so the service is cheery if rather laid back. I know we were waiting on other folk arriving, but we sat there for 45 minutes without anyone offering us so much as a glass of water. A wee aperitif would not have gone amiss.

It's tucked along Woodside Terrace and you'd be best off checking the map on Yelp before you head there, lest you head to completely the wrong place. No bother though, we found it eventually! It's a basement restaurant but it has a large windows at either end so it's not dark and dim like you might expect. I really like the decor - to me, it was like stepping back in time but in a tasteful, charming way. There's loads of photos all over the walls and you can tell it's had a lot of love put into it. I had a glass of rosé while looking over the menu which was really tasty - so tasty that I couldn't resist a second small glass with my main. For starters I had the caprese salad which was served with a whopping chunk of buffalo mozzarella. Everything was so fresh, light and tasty that it was totally perfect in its simplicity. I loved the generous slices of whopping huge tomato and even though the mozzarella was massive, it was a refreshing starter. For main I had the veal milanese with pasta. About 3 years ago (possibly more), Graeme had this dish at an Italian restaurant and I've had food envy ever since. I never forget food envy. Mine was served with penne napolitana but you could opt for a spicier spaghetti if you wanted. The veal was delicious, soft and buttery and the pasta was heavenly. I got a very generous dusting of parmesan (the way I like it). I did struggle to finish mine though (I had to save room for dessert). The tiramisu was wonderful, soft, fluffy, boozy and the lovely richness of coffee. I couldn't finish my portion but they happily put it in a ramekin for me to take home - so lovely. The bill was pretty pricey - around £40 per person, but then that was for a 3 course meal with drinks so it's actually not too bad. My favourite thing about here (apart from the food) was definitely the service. The staff are so lovely and welcoming that you really do feel like you're part of their family. Nothing was too much trouble or difficult for them, and we got really mouthwatering descriptions of the menu from the Don himself. He would pop out from the kitchen every now and then to see how we were doing, and made sure he came by to say goodbye as he had to be up early for the fishmarket in the morning. A charming hidden gem in Woodlands - I can't wait to return.

I started out with a mixed salad, it had chopped greens, a layer of tomatoes, red onions and drizzled with balsamic vinegar, not only was this mixed salad good looking it was great tasting too! I knew since I was indulging I needed to keep it moving and dive into dessert, after checking out the yummy menu I went with the Tronchetto Al Cioccolato- it was an Sicilian style chocolate cake, rolled together with Italia Amaretti & cookies served with nocciolate ice cream, oh sweet bliss! Located just off the Finnieston strip next to Ox & Finch, we actually tried going here last year but for some reason they were closed on a Saturday night so we went to Mother India instead. A group of 5 of us visited for dinner last night. The restaurant is pretty small actually but not pokey - no one was seated right beside us and the music gives it a good atmosphere so you don't feel like people are listening to your conversation. The menu is really impressive - I pretty much wanted to eat every single dish. As Rocco G says, it's not your usual Italian dishes on the menu and you can be a little more adventurous here (although there is a section of traditional Italian dishes which are more common in the UK like bolognese, carbonara, lasagne). There's lots of eggplant/aubergine (drool) and loads of delicious-sounding seafood, as well as nod to Scottish folk with a chicken breast stuffed with haggis. There's even a good range of vegetarian dishes. I went for the scallops to start (£9.95) which were beautifully plump (is there any other way to describe a good scallop), served in a lovely tangy Aurum liqueur sauce. For the price I thought 3 scallops was very reasonable, and really enjoyed how perfectly they were cooked. For main I couldn't go past the gnocchi with king prawns in a white wine sauce (£11.95). It was a huge portion (too large, if I'm honest) but overall a really wonderful dish packed with flavour but not smothered in sauce, and really letting the puffs of gnocchi shine. There was one main large prawn (in the shell) and then smaller prawns scattered around the dish - again, for the price I thought this was really good value. I even went for dessert (something I rarely do) as I quite fancied the tiramisu (I think around £5). Again, great sized portion, lovely presentation and had a nice boozy/coffee kick to it. I couldn't eat it all so they happily popped it in a container for me to take home (guess what I'm having for lunch today?!). Service was great - we were looked after by two staff members who were both friendly and helpful. There was a mix up with the mains as one of our party didn't receive his, and they only realised as they were bringing out our dishes. I thought the way it was handled was really nice - they offered him some bread while he waited, and then took his dessert off the bill to say sorry. Life lesson: If Rocco G says it's good, it's going to be good.

My first time upstairs, and I was surprised to find that it's not any roomier than the downstairs. It's basically a long narrow mezzanine that could only take 4 or 5 tables comfortably, and you have to share the area with the doors to the toilets and staff storeroom. The general lack of space in this restaurant is the only thing preventing me from giving it the full 5 stars, as I can't fault the food or the service at all. I'd give it 4 and 3/4 stars if I could. For starters, I had mussels from the specials menu, which were marinated in a slightly piquant sauce and came with a wee bit of garlic bread. Just yummy. I was very intrigued by what appeared to be a large mint in a wee eggcup that came with the 'empties' bowl, until a water arrived and poured a small jug of hot water into it, whereupon it expanded into a hot towel to wash your hands with afterwards. How cool is that? For mains, I again chose from the specials menu, with squid ink tortellini stuffed with lobster, topped with more mussels, king prawns and garlic (you can tell there's a bit of a seafood theme here). I liked the way that the prawns had been half-peeled in advance, so you could easily extract the meat without having to dig in with your fingers, and the tortellini was perfectly cooked. It was the most expensive thing on the specials menu, but it did justify the price as it was really tasty. Plus I got another wee expanding towel thingy to be impressed by. As this was an organised birthday bash, the waiters had been previously consulted about wine choices so that was all laid on when we arrived, including some lovely proscecco to start us off and get everyone in the mood. We had 2 or 3 wine aficionados in the group and everyone was very complimentary about the wine choices, so that's a good tip if you're in a similar situation in future. Dessert was skipped as there was a birthday cake (of course), presented with great panache by the owner, complete with candles and 'happy birthday' playing on the sound system. A nice touch and a fitting conclusion to the evening. I have to say I really like this place, and I would like it even more if it was just a teensy bit less cosy.
