Sugo was a refreshing change after eating pub food across Scotland. We had the a pasta with pork (spicy), the fettucine with ragu (chunks of beef), a salad and bread. All was delicious and flavorful. The salad was beautiful - everything you would want in a salad. I would have liked more cheese on my dish, but it was good. The pasta was also al dente - something I'm not accustomed to, but it was good and freshly made. Service was excellent. We were seated quickly and servers were attentive. It was a noisy place - very busy - but with a good vibe. We were seated near the kitchen so we could watch the chefs. One gentleman ran his ungloved hand through his hair, put the hat back on and then proceeded to grab a ball of fresh noodles and drop them in the water. The gloved hand wasn't used. I don't know what to think, but not very sanitary, but then nothing the boiling water wouldn't take care of either. ;) The cook staff were constantly busy and were not standing around. The system worked well and our meal was served quickly. A good thing when you're hungry. I would recommend Sugo to spice up your visit in Glasgow. read more

We were told it was going to be a forty minute wait so we put our name down and decided to walk around the area for a bit. I had dinner here with one of my friends who lives nearby. We didn't have reservations but it was on a weeknight evening so they were able to accommodate us. The restaurant has a large main dining room & open kitchen towards the back so you can see them making their pizzas. We started out with drinks (Prosecco for me & Menabrea draught for my friend). We shared a burrata appetizer & I had mushroom ravioli & my friend had pasta with sea bass. Everything was delicious & portions weren't too big so there's room for dessert. Great spot for casual Italian food dinner. They don't take reservations and are super busy, but since the room is huge the waits are quick. I was quoted 15 mins for 2 people on a busy night and ended up seated faster than that. I tried the Carbonara, Arrabiata and the beef ragu. All good but the Carbonara was my favorite. I saw Sugo first recommended on a Scotland travel FB group and mentally catalogued it for our days in Glasgow...the last day of our trip we were at a bar having a few drinks and snacks and both the guy next to us and the bartender strongly suggested it, without knowing it was on my radar - confirming our need to go, and I'm so so glad we did! We put our name on the list and didn't even have time for me to order a glass of wine from the bar before we were called. The place is larger than I expected, and loud, with its high ceilings and has an industrial feel. Its like a pasta nightclub haha! We ordered the panzanella as a starter on the strong recommendation of our fellow bar patron, the spinach and ricotta ravioli and the beef ragu. The flavors in the panzanella were SO rich, ingredients so so fresh and it was absolutely delicious. The ragu was generous sized and great as well - but the real star of the show was the ravioli. Literally the best pasta dish I've had in my life. It was so buttery and flavorful, we both agreed it was phenomenal. From sitting down to checking out it was very fast as well. It's worth the hype! We went in and waited about 15 minutes. They shuffle you into the bar area where you can get a drink and there are seats to wait. The inside is big and it can get packed. It was quite loud in there. Super bustling and lots going on. We started with bread and burrata. Super good. I got the pappardelle bolognese. It was super rich with chunks of meat. I'd heard this place was great, so I decided to go to see what it's all about. The restaurant was lively with so many people, but I was quick to be seated. Service was quick, friendly, and it was impressive how fast and efficient everything was. The food came out, and the pasta was to die for. I had one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had in my life. Hands down the best Italian in Glasgow; the wait is worth it (the line moves fast!) The fresh sourdough with EVOO (£4) with some white wine was a great way to kick off our meal. Next came the pasta: I love that they list their pastas by region on the menu. We chose pappardelle with beef ragú and spaghetti carbonara (guanciale, pecorino, egg yolk, & pepper). The portion size was the perfect amount to leave you feeling satisfied, but not like you overate. So naturally, we had to take it a step further and order cannoli for dessert! My wife and I stopped in here on our last night in Glasgow and we were not disappointed! The line seemed very long so we put our name in and went to grab a drink while we waited. To our surprise Sugo is very efficient in getting people seated and getting your food out quickly. I ordered some olives as an appetizer which were delicious and the pasta that came out was heavenly and was served quickly, hot and was very reasonably priced! The ambiance was very modern/hip/industrial which is right up our alley! They get busy but don't let the big line deter you from going in. This was a great place for some delicious pasta. Lots of variety from all regions of Italy. Service was quick but it seemed very robotic, mostly focused on turning tables quickly, which they do. One of the few places you don't need a reservation! The service is quick and efficient like no other place we've been to here in Glasgow. The atmosphere is lively and bustling in the best way. We were seated in the middle of the restaurant, which was nice because a lot of places put parties of two in the corners. I don't love that, but if that's your thing there are quieter corners in this restaurant, too. The main entrees came out so quick we barely had time to get into our starters, but everything was delicious! Head over and get some pasta and have fun people watching while you do! read more

I love Sugo so much that I came 3 times in a 2-week trip! It's really hard to get a good plate of pasta where I live, ok? Luckily, Sugo is really pleasant to visit, great for a date or for groups, and has at least 10 great pasta dishes to choose from at any given time. They say that each pasta is paired with the sauce or ingredients as traditionally served in its region. Occasionally I wish I could change out the pasta but it's a cool way to do things. I tried a few dishes. The tagliarini with olive oil, garlic, chilli and breadcrumbs was nice and simple, makes a perfect lunch - and it's also a good vegan option. The pappardelle with slow cooked beef ragu has chunks of beef which fall apart - if I'd known sooner that it wasn't ground beef I'd have ordered that. Luckily I got a taste of my husband's. My husband also got the spinach and ricotta ravioli with sage butter, which was ridiculously rich but somehow not too heavy. Some kind of magic. I also had two specials: the lamb ragu with spaghetti, and the bucatini carbonara. All were delicious. I'd probably prefer the lamb with a thicker pasta but it's nice that they have lots of options. Another highlight was their panzanella salad. I enjoyed the burrata too. Really, you can't go wrong. It can be lively here but the longest we waited for a seat was about 15 minutes on a busy evening. Service is pretty swift and they definitely pack them in here. It's a popular draw for work lunches and dinners, too. I didn't have any alcoholic drinks here but they keep it pretty simple with a small selection of wines by the glass and bottle, all £25/bottle or under, one draught beer and a handful of bottled beers. In the end, it's pasta so it's hard to make a mistake ordering. Pastas are big so sharing makes sense. I went with a pasta with a beef ragu that was delish. I came here on a Sunday evening at around 5pm. It was busy, but I was able to get a table right away. I came by myself. I sat at my table for around 10 minutes and no servers came over. A table of three came and was seated two tables away from me and saw a server right away. They do not take reservations here so it is first come first serve. A server came over and was friendly and took my order. I had the Rossilini cocktail which was just mediocre. I would not order that again. However, the pasta was fabulous and they make everything fresh in house. I had the mushroom ravioli which was on special that day. It was perfectly seasoned and had a nice light truffle flavor that wasn't too overpowering. The Horne add tiramisu was excellent. This was likely the best tiramisu I've ever had. This was one of the best places I ate in Glasgow. It's a sister restaurant of Paesano's and has all the same commitment to fresh, dish - appropriate ingredients that the Pizza joint does. You will likely have to wait, especially if you're going at dinner time, but it's worth it. They'll let you hang out at the bar or will give you a text when your table is ready. It's definitely lively and my server was hilarious and made several good recommendations. He was also helpful with the table next to me when they had an issue with their dish--he was concerned, apologetic, and helped them get it sorted quickly. read more

A seriously amazing place for pasta that is not only absolutely delicious, but also affordable. This place is packed at all hours of day for good reason, especially with their no reservation policy. My friends and I came here on Sunday at around 3:00pm, and even at this time, where most restaurants would be empty, Sugo was packed with an area of people waiting!! Despite this, we didn't have to wait too long and it was completely worth it. Every single dish Hit the spot. My friends and I couldn't decide on a favorite.
