First of all the place is super nice and cool. The food are super delicious. Very nice cocktails as well. The stuff are very friendly. The only reason I gave 4 stars and not 5 is because of the waiting time either to be seated or to wait for the main dishes. It took very long time. So plan ahead to spend some good time in there. Otherwise, everything was amazing and I would definitely go back again maybe this time to try their fish & chips because it looked so good.

Had a fantastic dinner here. The cocktail menu is inventive and extensive with snappy descriptions of what each drink entails, but because I am basic I ordered a vodka gimlet. (For the record, it was perfect.) I do feel bad that my waiter patiently walked me through the whole menu before I decided to just get the same thing I always do. Such is life. As for food, I started with the fish soup of the day which I believe was haddock, followed by the sea bass. I like to really lean into the whole seafood thing. As I ordered, my (friendly) waiter warned me that the bass was a rather small portion. This turned out to be totally untrue as I could barely finish it. But I did, because it was awesome. The soup was delicious, too. Finally, I found the prices almost comically low - sea bass costs like $30 at home as opposed to the £14 that I paid here, and I think my cocktail was £6; it easily would have been $14-16 in NYC at a restaurant of this caliber. Have I mentioned that I'm moving to Scotland?

This was my first dining experience in Scotland and I was not at all disappointed! We had a team dinner here after our first day of meetings and were famished. They serve seafood, mussels, fresh fish, scallops, everything... I ordered the "whole fish" which came with the head, tail and bones. It was soooo good! Dave got the mussels, and everyone else got fish and chips. There was a little sharing going on, and everything was good. Luckily we scored the table right next to the fireplace, which was perfect for a cold winter night. The place was bustling, noisy and packed... we drank wine, had an excellent time. Next time I'm in Glasgow, I'll definitely return. Excellent find!

Stopped by The Finnieston before and after dinner, still trying to make our way to the Italian restaurant we were headed too, but since we just had appetizers, we decided to stop for a drink, had a great time and told the bartender we will back, which in fact we were! Can't testify about the food, but I can talk about the drinks, because I did have a few! I do recall ordering The Fifty Fifty Martini and Bijou cocktail, and I had a few others ones too. The bartenders were friendly and even if the bar was crowded, you really didn't have long to wait for your next drink. The Finnieston will be one of my favorite bar hoping stops, looking forward to making my way back!

After a few delays.. it's here! Lebowski's friendly neighbourhood cousin, The Finnieston. A lovely warm inviting interior is the first impression I got from this place, quickly replaced by the exemplary service and ambience. Gotta love a bit of The White Album with dinner.. While I was aware that this place is a seafood joint, I would be lying if I said I wasn't expecting a wider variety in the menu. No sides to be found or anything like that, just 4 or 5 starters, 4 or 5 mains and 4 or 5 desserts and that was it, aside from daily specials. I had a lovely salmon salad with seaweed bread (better than expected) while my missus gulped down her first ever taste of oysters where the waiter would later innocently ask if she chewed or swallowed, such was the level of his loveliness. He was also keen to share his take on the dishes and how best to eat them. Main course o'clock and I went for a roast chicken dish with sauteed potatoes and wilted veg while my missus opted for a risotto that she assured me was the best she has ever tasted. Lovely food, well presented and perfectly cooked. No arguments whatsoever. The word from the waiter is that there is an immense variety of gin behind the bar, where I know the whisky is provided by a distillery called The Finnieston who seemingly have a manifesto to get more people drinking whisky by making it more interesting, in much the same way as the recent wave of flavoured ciders. Highlight of the experience was the waiter who was a genuinely lovely chap that makes me want to go back. Given the narrow variety on offer in the way of food however, I doubt I will go back anytime soon. If I do, it will likely be for a drink as the bill for 2 with starter and main each including a soft drink each clocked in at just shy of £40 which is a sum I'm only used to when I eat red meat. I think the deal is that they serve up fresh produce and so can only provide a limited menu to meet their aim honestly. They do what they do well. Back to the waiter, he signed the bill saying 'thanks for coming all the way from Finland', a level of personalisation I am not used to dining out. It put a warm smile on our faces and left us leaving in a smiley mood. Oh, and my missus is Finnish, to spare confusion.. Oh, and they have a beer garden. Oh, why don't you get yourself on down there!

Dang, beaten to the punch by Steven! Been excited to see this one for a while now and it did not let me down. T'was a Saturday night and the plan was to take the female canadian type one out for a spot of dinner to celebrate her 10 year 'whoop, they let her stay in the country!!' day. To The Finnie we went. In we stoated to be met with a friendly face that just seemed to set the tone for the entire evening. Served by three people over the course of the night, the chat was friendly, service attentive and with thought and attention paid. Spot on. The place feels excellent. Pub like at the front, with a more booth restaurant feel through the back... kinda like a reverse mullet... in a good way. It's cosy, well finished and feels like the kinda place you could hit up for a post work/weekend drink or dress up for a bit of fancy grub. Drinks wise, yeah I'm sure they have beer on the go but it kinda felt like a fancy event so I plumped for the most most manly (ahem) cocktail on the menu, the Rangoon Daisy (i think??). I believe it was gin based, but thats of little consequence when you take the first gulp. Bitter, sharp, packed full of flavor and total bang to the palette. Lovely. Ra grub. Without blathering on too much and boring folks, it's suffice to say that the fare is fishy in the Finne. The woman type is of west coast canada origin, so a pretty good judge of the fishy. She was not disappointed. With scallops and soup for starter, followed by giant king prawns and fish n chips for mains (all very tasty indeed), desert seemed like a foolish folly in the finne, but ah, what the hell. The lady plumped for the strawberry sorbet and I the pana cotta, both awesome. Ooh, kinda feel like I missed out the fish facts there. Scallop wise, they were fresh, very flavoursome and cooked to perfection (wife is uber picky about this). King prawns were indeed king size and served up on a wooden board that just looked awesome. The fish supper was fresh, well portioned but kinda left me wishing i'd opted for the chicken or beef instead (totally my tongues fault, just not a big fishy fan). Overall the experience was spot on, good food, great service and a very cosy feel to the joint. Pocket wise, it was reasonable for a 3 courser with drinks, but certainly not a pub grub bill. So why not the 5 stars? Well, I just feel that there is more to come with the Finnie. Given the high standard thats been set by the Lebowski boys, I just feel that this latest venture has a little tightening up to do, which I have no doubt will come with time. Having hit it for food, I'd like to drop by for a wee drink at some point and just see how it sits.

It had been over 2 years since I'd eaten at the Finnieston, and we headed along on a Friday night for some food. We'd made a booking in advance which I'd assumed would be essential, but actually the dining space was mostly empty when we were there and only started filling up when we were leaving closer to 8pm. Firstly, I'm *pretty* sure they had put my booking under Barney instead of Briony which is hilarious and yet a little bit WTF. As a group of 5 they seated us in a high booth table which was comfortable for the first 15 minutes and then you just can't actually find somewhere to put your legs and it was all a little bit cramped. Actually, quite a few features of the Finnieston are that little bit too cramped - the loos, in particular. You need to be a bit of a contortionist to get yourself in them. Your knees will probably be touching the door, that's how small they are. Onto the food. We decided to skip starters and just go for mains. I like the menu here - it's very fishy, so if that isn't your thing you might not find something to your tastes. The staff really know their stuff about the fishes on offer which is great to see, our waitress was really helpful at explaining the difference and the more unusual offerings. That being said, the menu changes as to what's available on a daily basis so it would be really helpful to have a printed menu with options as we had to get her to repeat herself a few times. I ordered from the specials and got cod with mint & coriander, dhal, yoghurt and pickled carrot. This was a lovely dish with hints of Indian spices throughout, and a nice sized portion. I can't fault the dish as it was really tasty and packed a nice punch. For dessert I got the cheeseboard which was £9.95 but had enough cheeses on it for everyone at the table to share. It was a perfectly reasonable cheeseboard but nothing really stood out as exceptional or interesting on it, just the usual cheeses you'd expect. As I said, service was good and very knowledgeable, and I don't remember any delays or issues with our orders. We split the bill up between the 5 of us and I think it was around £35 each which is on the pricier end of a meal out (others at the table were drinking, sadly I was driving) and I just didn't leave feeling all that wowed. That being said, The Finnieston is still one of my picks for places to drink along this strip so if you're interested in a fun gin selection, you should pop along here.

Love when bartenders go to effort to make up a mocktail & make it pretty

The husband and I were very lucky to win two places on the "Best of the West" 7 course tasting menu from Yelp. I'd not been to The Finnieston before (husband had been for drinks) and was really looking forward to it. With me being heavily pregnant and us having a 4 year old we'd not been out for a nice dinner just the two of us for a while. I have to start by saying the evening didn't start as we planned. My mother-in-law (our babysitter) broke down on the Kingston Bridge on her way to pick up my son from school. My husband had to run from his work to get her and then go with tow truck to the garage and I had to run and pick up my son. I called and said is there any chance of a later booking (there wasn't) but the staff told me as long as we made it by 6:15 (booking was 5:30) it would be okay. We arrived pretty much bang on 6:15 so stressful start for us but staff were very accommodating. First thing I love anywhere where the bartender will make me a mocktail no bother--and a pretty one at that! Just because I can't drink alcohol doesn't mean I don't deserve and yummy and pretty drink :) Our first course was Peterhead Mackerel, beetroot, gooseberries, basil. I'm not a big mackerel fan but this was really yummy; I ate everything on my plate except the skin. Sorry I just can't eat fish skin! Husband agreed--the beetroot granita and gooseberries were a really nice contrast to the mackerel. Next we moved on to Scottish Goats Cheese, horseradish, heirloom tomato and dehydrated olive. I LOVED this. I love tomato and goat cheese so it was perfect for me. Husband was surprised to see he liked dehydrated olives (he doesn't eat normal olives) and I'm pretty sure I would have licked the plate if I was allowed. Third course was Wild Loch Clipped Trout pate, with homemade bread and butter. We were told one of the owners caught the trout himself. It was REALLY good. It came in a cute little faux tin and was my husband's favourite of the night. The preserved lemon on top of the pate was lovely and my only criticism is that I could have used more of the yummy tiny homemade bread. Fourth course came and was an Orkney Crab cake on pea soup with squid ink. My husband is a huge fan of pea soup and this was bright and fresh and really worked well with the crab. The crab cake itself was very simply coated in panko and really let the delicious crab meat shine. I don't often get fish/crab cakes because they are too mayonnaise-y or have coriander so this was a treat. Fifth course was the main course, but probably the most disappointing for us. Organic Sheltland Salmon, cucumber, baby gem, anchovy. The wee cucumber balls were our favourite thing on the plate. For me the salmon was just too fishy--maybe a pregnancy thing, maybe just I'm not the biggest fan of cooked salmon. The cooked lettuce was bland and in general the dish was just really underwhelming especially following the four previous courses. If I'm honest I hid all my salmon under the lettuce to make it seem like I ate it. Our sixth course and first dessert course brought things back again. Wild Scottish Strawberries, white chocolate, cheese, vanilla. We both really enjoyed it and thought it was a good dessert choice for someone (we assume) isn't a pastry chef. You know when you watch reality cooking shows and the contestants always balls up the dessert challenge? This is the sort of thing they should do---great technique and flavour. To close out the tasting menu our seventh and final course was Coconut, pineapple, lime which was a wee cake, some pineapple meringues and dollops of lime. The cake was moist and nice and as our son has an egg allergy I was really intrigued by the egg-free meringues. It was a nice way to finish off the meal although I'm not sure how pineapple and coconut are the best of the West! As far as the theme of "Best of the West" it did seem quite a few of the ingredients were not actually from the West Coast. All the seafood was Scottish so maybe just a broader name for the tasting menu would have been a bit more accurate. We had a lovely evening and I would definitely be back again. The staff were friendly and accommodating and everything was cooked extremely well. They had an extensive cocktail and wine list so I think we might hold off until I'm back on the wagon again! Thanks Yelp and Thank you to The Finnieston for a great night.

I have a soft spot for The Finnieston because it's one of the first places in Glasgow that my partner and I went for a "proper" date. We loved it instantly and have always seen it as a bit of a treat whenever we've been back. I've eaten the food there a few time and, being a fan of fish, it has always been excellent. In particular I'm impressed with what they do with sea bream (my partner's favourite) and I strongly recommend whatever fish of the day they're offering - every time I've ordered it it has been perfect. Naturally enough, they do a mean fish and chips. Be warned that the portions are generous. I tend to get a starter and then discover I can't finish my main. However, if you're extra hungry, their soups are usually very good and if they have duck eggs on anywhere their starter list just order them and don't ask questions. They'll be perfect. There's a courtyard through at the back of the restaurant, which is the perfect place for sipping their brilliant cocktails in the sunshine, if you're lucky enough to experience Glasgow in the sun. If you're tall (or you feel no shame about standing on a shair) you can see the old railway line that runs behind The Finnieston from this courtyard.

This is by far one of my favorite cocktail bars in Glasgow. The bartenders, atmosphere and drinks are awesome! I have had so many great times here, whether with work friends, out for a birthday, or just need a drink you can't go wrong with the Finnieston. I would love to tell you about their great smelling food, but alas I have not had the opportunity to eat here yet. So, I guess my five star review is for the bar!

My first experience of The Finnieston was enough to have me declaring my love for the place to my pals and colleagues, but it was only the tip of the iceberg. Speaking of icebergs, my next trip here began with a pretty glass of water, containing an iceberg of Titanic proportions, which impressed me, but the best was yet to come. I had come along on the evening of The Finnieston's Best of the West Tasting Menu and Wine Dinner. I was keen to get involved although, as a vegan diner, I didn't expect to be fed as well as those here for the main attraction, but oh how wrong I was! I was amazed to arrive to my very own vegan menu, which was above any beyond any expectation or requirement but for which I was so grateful. My considerately catered menu was marvellous and each course was complemented by an accompanying wine. It was a glorious experience of perfectly paired drinks and dishes, with a wine expert keeping the bottles and banter flowing. From the delighted squeals of my dining companion, I gathered that the main menu was also amazing and he assured me that everything was cooked to perfection. Every dish was precisely and perfectly presented. I left, not stuffed and steaming, but perfectly balanced like the food itself and I floated home on a cloud of contentment after such a wonderful evening of being looked after by the lovely folk at The Finnieston. It makes such a difference when a place is run by and filled with genuinely decent people who are happy to gab away to you like an old friend, while exuding passion and enthusiasm for what they do. I know this is such a gushing declaration of adoration, but trust me and book a table if you haven't already been to The Finnieston as it really is the finest in town, best of the west and is unparalleled in its excellence.

This place is just great! Can't wait to go back again! Such a nice atmosphere, the bartenders were great chat, explaining how they come up with their creations and offers help deciding. Food was incredible and not too pricey. Got two starters, two mains of market fish (sea bream), 2 sauces, 4 sides and 1/2 litre of wine for only £58! And I left feeling full! Loved the dining experience and with 100% be back again. Hats off to you! Now pass me another gin!

The vibe in The Finnieston is a trendy west end version of ye olde world fishing tavern I think - lots of wood and exposed brick walls. It was cool and I liked it. I do however have a couple of issues with where we were seated, which was in the extremely busy - standing-room-only bar. The biggest issue with where our table was located was the noise, which was incredible...I actually couldn't hear my sis-in-law half the time. This was on top of random people sitting at the end of our booth without asking, which was beyond rude and made things really uncomfortable for a less than ideal Saturday night dinner. I am sharing this - not to put you off going - but rather to flag up that when you make a booking (if you are looking for a more relaxed chilled dinning experience (like we were)) you may want to ask to be seated in the restaurant tables at the back rather than the tables in the bar. The staff were excellent, very attentive, helpful and friendly. Couldn't fault them even slightly. The menu is super fish heavy and so I was in pescetarian heaven. I ordered the scallops to start, described as: Hand dived scallops, Pork cheek tortellini, wilted spinach & cauliflower foam. This dish was spectacular and my favourite of the night. The scallops were large, lush and cooked to perfection. The tortellini really enhanced the dish by giving it a delicious fresh but meaty taste. A brilliant dish bursting with big flavours. I decided to go for the Market fish for my main, which was Coley with sides of Truffled Mash, Kale & Sugarsnap peas with a Rosemary & smoked garlic butter. The food arrived reasonably quickly considering how busy the restaurant/bar was. The dish looked beautiful - the large piece of light flaky fish had a perfectly crispy skin. The mash was okay, it was tasty enough but I definitely ordered wrong because my sis got chips and they were INCREDIBLE!! I enjoyed the kale and sugarsnap peas - they were seasoned nicely and added bite to the dish. The flavoured butter added a subtle zing to the dish and wasn't over powering in anyway. It's not a Saturday night if there's not dessert and I couldn't resist the Pistachio Bakewell Tart this normally comes with Rhubarb ice cream but since rhubarb is one of my food nemeses, I had it with vanilla instead. Served warm, the tart was light and slightly doughy, which for me was perfect. The pistachio added a lovely nutty flavour to the Bakewell tart. A beautiful dessert, which I would happily order again. The bill came to £83.20 for 2 three-course meals and some drinks. I was really pleased with the value for money. In all honesty, I wouldn't go back to eat at the Finnieston on a Saturday night as it was more of a bar than a restaurant and I found the general bustle of a busy Finnieston bar on a Saturday too noisy to enjoy it. I would however happily visit during the week

But my gosh, I love you and I am going to keep on coming back for more until you bar me from coming back. I'd never been to the Roxy 171 (oops) but I had been to the Liquid Ship and the layout of the Hug & Pint seems to be similar. Stairs up to the bar area and a nice, relaxed vibe. We got a couple of drinks at the bar and took a seat. It has a cosy vibe without seeming small, and the smell from the kitchen was incredible. I wasn't eating (sadly) but I am going back ASAP for the Asian-inspired vegan menu. There's aubergine on it. Need I say more?! Well, I will. The drinks selection is really good - Thistly Cross cider, Blue Moon, Brooklyn, Innis & Gunn. There's wine, spirits, Aperol and Sam Smith's organic fruit beer. Pretty much what I'm trying to say is that I think the Hug & Pint is perfect. I need to go back for more visits and to try the food, so maybe I'll lose the rose-tinted glasses. But for now, it's a 5-star first-visit love affair. Swoon.

On to the main which was a huge house burger rammed with chorizo, Chilli's, chorizo, an onion ring, etc. There is so many other burger places in Glasgow now, but the burger on offer here is as good as anything you will get elsewhere. Finally on the side there was a portion of great skinny fries and a bottle of anchor steamer. The menu was small but certainly had lots more I would like to try, there was a good variety of beer on offer and the service was great. Dinner made me happy tonight.

Excellent eats, cool cocktails, chill ambience - what's not to like?…read moreLet's start with the food. It's Scottish fare that has been thoroughly hipster-ized (that's a complement!), with excellent ingredients and love in equal measures. Everything is cooked JustRight™, the flavors are clear and cohesive, and there is just enough Surprise on each plate to keep you happy and excited for more. On which note, if they've got the gnocchi and/or the lamb, be sure to get them - they are *exceptional*. About the only weak link is the steak. Which isn't bad at all - it's just that you can get steak anywhere... ) The cocktails are very well done, with the menu separating them out appropriately by type/style. Never fear though, if you're not sure what you want, talk to the bartender, and they'll happy pick one, or work something specific up for you. And as for the ambience, well, what can I say. It's got a lot of wood, and is still airy without being barn-like. You feel the presence of others, but aren't overpowered by them. And the staff is always on hand, ready to help and/or leave you alone if you're having a good time. Most importantly, they don't push you out (we guilted ourselves out well past closing!) The bottom line is that if you're in Glasgow, and in the 'hood, you owe it to yourself to come here...

I just came from dinner at Chelsea Market and it was very good. We were looking to eat somewhere…read morein the Kelvingrove / Kelvinbridge as we were told that this was an up and coming area for really good restaurants. Chelsea Market just opened a few weeks ago, but gauging by their performance of our dinner service, you couldn't tell this was a new place. Usually kinks need to be worked out from food to service, usually followed by lots of apologies for the inevitable missteps in aforementioned food and service. Nothing of the sort happened. Everything was very well done. We walked in without a reservation to a pretty full dining room and a buzzing bar, but they were able to find us a table. We started off with pumpkin soup which had roasted pumpkin in it and pumkpin seeds, which gave it a nice roasted flavor. For dinner we had the lamb shoulder, red deer and a burger. The lamb shoulder was tasty and very tender. The red deer was excellent and my burger was also very good. The service was good as well. They were friendly and helpful throughout our visit.

I visited Swing on Saturday night (30 Aug 2014) and had a great time!…read more For something a wee bit different in Glasgow, this should be on your must-visit list. The club is intimately sized and follows a retro early-mid 20th century aesthetic. This is backed up by the fantastic service by the staff who address you as sir and madam. The entertainment began with RadioJam; a guy and girl duo playing acoustic r'n'b, which would normally be my idea of hell but it actually fit the mood nicely and my missus was ready to take them home with us to play in our living room on demand. After a short break, they were followed by the Fortunate Sons and their brand of Americana/bluegrass, which then had us up for a bit of dancing! As mentioned, the place is small so there's no place to hide if you want to throw some shapes. There was also a spot of aerial acrobatics by Silks. It was a short performance but threw up something different and was visually compelling. Swing is apparently famed for its cocktails and i agree. The two bartenders obviously knew their stuff and took pride in the drinks. At the start of the night when it's still quiet, they make more of a show of it and my 'Old Fashioned' was quite impressive compared to some previously had poor efforts elsewhere. Suffice to say, I reflected my appreciation with a good tip. There is a cocktail menu (which i think they vary each week) but they will make whatever you like. Also, while it's quiet at the start of the evening you will get table service but understandably this peeters off as the club fills up. Cocktails are pricey so take plenty of dosh if you're going to be ordering a few. However, beers etc., are more reasonable. Another thing I liked was when a large hen party showed up, clad in sashes and all the usual getup, a polite word was had from the club owner to remove their gear as this, I guess, is not what he wants his club to be known for. And to be honest it was the most dour faced hen party I have ever seen! We booked ahead to secure a table at an exrta cost (£7.50 pp) but folks can pay on the door for £5. I'd recommend getting a seat.

Stopped in as my wife and her friends are Swing dancers, didn't know what to expect…read more Went down the stairs into a wonderful bar area, Decor is lovely. Bar is well stocked and very nicely done. Definitely a place for a good cocktail and ideal fro a date. There is space to dance and we did. Will be back soon
