    Smoked fish plate

Lovely small restaurant to get some good seafood and wines, albeit a bit pricey. The smoked fish plate was very good and the lobster was decadently bathed in butter. The fish tomato broth was also very tasty.

Well known spot for seafood. We just discovered it earlier that day and walked by the resto. Couldn't make reservations so decided to try our luck by walking in. We were seated immediately, didn't have to wait. The place was packed, with only two or three two-person tables open indoors. We sat next to a couple that ordered the seafood platter. And by golly, it was enormous! It's such a good deal for 95 pounds. The crab, mussels, lobster, and all looked soooo good. We weren't that hungry that evening so decided to opt in for half dozen fresh oysters (which were delicious) and each ordered a fish from their special menu of the day. Everything was super well flavoured and seasoned. Beware of bones in the whole fish! The halibut was very meaty. A bit overcooked in one end but acceptable because of the sauce it came with. You can't find a lot of tasty vegetable dishes in Scotland but this dish has squash and broccolini that was perfectly cooked and seasoned (in other words not just smoothered with salt). I'd definitely come here regularly if I were a local!

Ok - there - I did it! Easily a 5 star from me, absolutely no doubt about it! After searching on Yelp for somewhere truly unique and of good quality to go to dinner with my cousin, I suggested this place and it turns out he was double thumbs up having been here a number of times before. Very intimate, with a feeling of 'grande rustic (I may have just coined this, it may possibly be the name of a loaf of bread from Waitrose...I don't know...) it does kick ass sea food in a comfortable and lively setting. Popping in this Weds for dinner - we looked over the menu and had already decided what we wanted before they brought over the specials board. There were probably 10 specials - all great fishy plates with exciting sides, but for me it was all about the scallops and anchovies (with a side of french fries of course) Great wine list, the beer selection could do with being upped - only Moretti on tap and then Peroni and Bitter and Twisted in bottles (I happily went for the latter) - this went down well and finished off with a shared cheeseboard it ticked all boxes and was somewhere that was also great to have a chat and catch-up. I'd definitely recommend booking (which we did) as it was packed. I'll be back next time I'm in Glasgow!

Oh my Crabshakk, why did I wait 5 years between visits?! WHY?! So I first visited Crabshakk in 2009 when I first moved to Glasgow and I believe that Crabshakk wasn't long open. Before Finnieston was even cool! I returned again the following year (I think) for lunch with a visiting friend and always meant to go back again, but somehow time flew by and it ended up being ages between visits. I decided to head here for an early birthday lunch and booked by email which was super easy. We arrived for our booking and were shown upstairs - now as others have mentioned, Crabshakk is a small space and they'd done brilliantly to fit in lots of tables, but it is kind of squashy. So you might get to know your table neighbours pretty well. Upstairs the seating is pretty good though, we were in the corner and had plenty of space on the table for all the food we ordered. We ate: Scallops in anchovy butter. We actually ended up eating two portions of these due to a mix up in the kitchen. Oh what a blow! This dish is amazing - perfectly cooked scallops, swimming in luscious salty butter. Oh yum. Definitely get some fries to accompany this dish to soak up the butter. Crab cakes. I actually only tried a little bit of these as I thought they might be more cake than crab, but I was totally wrong - bursting with crab and not much filler, they were very impressive. Mackerel with wakame salad and soy. This was one of the specials of the day and was probably my favourite dish. The mackerel skin was super crispy and delightful, the salad was just perfect. I felt like I'd hopped on a plane and had been transported to Japan. I very nearly ordered a second portion, I enjoyed it that much. Spoots. Probably the only dish I didn't love. The waitress explained what we could/couldn't eat on the spoots which we really appreciated - I'd had them before, but served differently so I was a little confused. The main (?!) part of the spoot was lovely but overall, the other dishes we tried were better. Grilled langoustines. A really generous portion, really juicy and succulent. I love that they don't do too much to the seafood here, instead they let the food speak for itself. Gravalax. Served with two home made oatcakes, this was some seriously rich salmon which was just lovely. I really liked the little salad that came with it too. With a couple of drinks our bill came to just over £75 which I thought was good value for an indulgent lunch. High praise also needs to go to our exceptional waitress who was super helpful and friendly - we were never left wanting for anything and she diligently explained all the specials to us with helpful pointers and guidance. We left with massive smiles on our faces - Crabshakk is still such a wonderful place to eat at, and I'm so glad we had lunch here. Alongside Table 11 (a few doors down) they are doing some seriously good stuff with seafood and deserve some very high praise. I can't wait to go back. (Note: so what's the difference between Crabshakk and Table 11? Personally, I'd say if you're looking for a long, chilled, grazing & drinking session then Table 11 is where to head. Crabshakk is probably more suited to a starter-main-dessert kind of meal if you've got plans afterwards. I've heard that Table 11 are expanding though, so this advice might change!)

    Impressive list of specials there

Very very yum. Lots of good points about this spot; 1. Giant windows to look out at the outside world while you stuff your face (and allow your smug to radiate through 2. Super friendly and smiley staff 3. Fresh fresh seafood - very simply done - excellent for real seafood lovers 4. An innovative specials menu that changes regularly which offers more complex and unusual arrangements of food I would definitely come back to Crabshakk should I return to Glasgow (which I obvs will, cos like duh, Glasgow is friggin brilliant.)

A group of 6 of us went for lunch here last week, I hadn't been in months and was really looking forward to it. We tried to book a table for 12.30 but were asked if we could come at noon instead as they needed the table back for another booking. We arrived and the restaurant was almost empty with just one table of two already there and were shown to a fab table on the mezzanine. Unfortunately the service from that point on, although perfectly friendly, was painfully slow...we waited for drinks...we waited to order...we waited on food. I think it was nearly 1pm before we got our starters. The food was excellent, as ever, I had the grilled langoustines to start and then the monkfish scampi. The monkfish was really good but I wasn't keen on the ketchup it was served with so asked for some garlic mayo, this arrived when I was more than half way through my main course. One member of our group had to wait that long for her main course to arrive! At £186 for lunch for 6, with no wine and only a few pints of beer on the tab, I expect a better experience than members of our group having to rush back to work nearly two hours after we arrive, not being able to stay for coffee or dessert. Still 3 stars because the food was faultless.

If you have high seafood standards this is the place for you! What a delicious dinner we had last week - scallops cooked in anchovies butter (they bring them to your table when the butter is still frying, wow!) and crab cakes as starters, monkish cheek scampi with fries and fish and chips as main courses - everything was excellent. Everything was absolutely spot on, i can find a fault in this wee place! Staff are really friendly and helpful and atmosphere is great! I can't wait to be back and try other dishes, just make sure you book because the restaurant is very small and always very busy.

I was treated to a meal here as an early birthday treat and it was a perfect meal. The restaurant itself is very small but we didn't feel too cramped or close to other diners. If possible it is better to get a seat on the mezzanine level as it gives a bit more space. The staff gave excellent service even though the restaurant was full. To start we shared a small portion of the moules mariniere and queenies in lobster butter - one of the daily specials. The mussels were some of the biggest I've had and were cooked perfectly. The queenies were divine - the lobster butter was amazing, especially mopped up with bread. To follow I had another of the daily specials - wild salmon with red pepper salsa. My boyfriend had the whole crab and we shared a portion of chips. My salmon was delicious but I can't help thinking that £19.50 was a bit excessively priced. To finish we shared the cheese board - the perfect end.

I have wanted to go to Crabshakk for literally ever, but never actually made it until last Saturday and to give away the results right at the start, it was as brilliant as I thought it would be! It's not a huge restaurant, so you certainly feel close to all the other diners, but really that is the only negative, everything else about the place is an easy 5 out of 5. I have been to their sister restaurant (Table 11) before and the service and atmosphere is very similar. I would go as far as to say these two restaurants provide the friendliest and best service anywhere in Glasgow. The atmosphere is pretty laid back, but you still manage to feel like you are in a "higher end" restaurant, but without all the boring formality and excessive pricing that seems to appear in other places. They specialise in seafood and the standard menu is absolutely full of tempting dishes, but then when you arrive they pull out the specials board and It looked very much to me like that is where the real goodies reside. The options were interesting, fresh and different from what you get elsewhere and out waitress happily talked us through all of them, letting us know how they were made up in detail. So what did I have? Starters to share - Queenies, which were indulgent and so tasty. Perhaps my favourite dish of the day. We also shared a light Asian squid salad which was again really nice. For mains I actually went with the seafood chowder and bread and butter. I am a huge chowder fan and this was as good as you get anywhere. Thick, creamy and totally lovely. For dessert, Trudie M and I again shared and went with the Panna Cotta.. Panna Cotta is one of my favourite desserts and this was better than most. Really light and fluffy. It was a great sweet bite after a filling meal. All of this was accompanied by a bottle of sauvignon blanc and some water. It all came to 31 quid each, but that is actually really good value for the high level of food and service on offer. Especially when you think that 11 pounds of the 31 was on the white wine. Crabshak is definitely one not to miss if you like seafood. 5 out of 5.

    Salt & Pepper Squid perfection!
    Gordon N.

Loved it. Great fresh food, friendly fast service, and a lovely atmosphere. Ate solely from the specials board and devoured it all. Salt and black pepper squid to start, and for main a seared brill with a sort of clapshot base and hollandaise sauce :-) Portions weren't huge, but the quality made up for it.

This is becoming an old faithful to me. No matter when I've been, during the week or weekend, the food has always been great. It's not going to be for everyone as the menu is almost exclusively fish based, but for those who do enjoy that, the quality is superb. I personally love the queen scallops with roe butter. The are sever on a sizzling skillet with lemon to add to the butter, which is excellent. They also have a great range of white wines. It's not a huge range, but I've never had a glass that doesn't compliment the fish. Quite a small place, so often not easy to get a table, but that just adds an extra dimension for me. A stand out location in Glasgow that is a real stalwart of the city's restaurant scene.

Just what you are picturing in your head right now. Dark, lots of dark wood, old crumbling bricks. I love this decor. We started with a couple of appetizers I ordered the Salmon Tartar and my wife ordered the smoked duck breast. I ordered a cold pint my wife had a glass of white wine. We decided to also have a half dozen local oysters. The waitress asked if we were expecting someone else. I guess 3 appetizers is not normal for 2. We were just getting started. Once we demolished all 3 appetizers I followed up with the Pan Seared Gigha Halibut my wife had the steamed Shetland Mussels. What a treat. All the seafood is local and very fresh. All of our dishes from beginning to end were tops. A truly historic dining experience from a historic eatery. In Glasgow then GO...... to The Finnieston. See what I did there. The pre-theatre is available until 7pm- among the latest cut offs I've come across and at £15.95 for 2 courses and £17.95 for 3 it's an absolute bargain for food of this quality. While we waited for our starters we were offered (and accepted!) complimentary bread and dipping oil and vinegar, and were offered and accepted seconds! This restaurant is renowned for fish so I ordered that for my main course- the fish of the day was sea bream with dauphinois with potatoes and tomato salsa served with vegetables. It really was jaw-droppingly good. Everything was perfectly cooked and the quality of the ingredients made this a meal to remember. We ordered a grand sharing platter of desserts from the a la Carte menu and were delighted to tuck in to all 4 full size desserts from the menu- Nutella cheese cake, sherry trifle, sticky toffee pudding and 3 ice creams from a selection (we went with Mint choc chip, vanilla and Dime bar). All 4 in my party have big appetites and couldn't finish! The tea was served in beautiful silverware - it's worth mentioning that the cutlery and crockery throughout the meal was a joy to use. This was mildly disappointing at the time, but actually they would have been fine as a starter if you were moving on to something more substantial. I was glad I'd ordered the chips as well though. Herself as usual went for the eponymous bivalve molluscs that are the house speciality. These were quite on the large side, and disappeared before I had a chance to get a picture of the bowl so must have been good! An Americano coffee to finish was of good strength and taste, even if it was only just over half a cup; presumably they were leaving a gap for the milk that I didn't ask for and don't want. Still, I guess if they'd topped it up with water it would be weaker and that would be almost as big a sin. The restaurant is quite large and was pretty empty on this particular lunchtime. They have a mezzanine area upstairs that you can rent for private groups, which would be great if you had enough folk who were seafood lovers.

The dinner rush at that time was small, and I looked over the menu. I went with fried haddock, hand-cut baked/fried chips, small white orbs of pickled onions, and tartar sauce. For my beverage I went with water with lemon in it. Prices were excellent (for example the pickled onions were less than one pound) and the servings were very large, I was happy I was hungry. The fish was perfectly flaky and fried to a golden perfection. The tartar sauce was thick and flavorful and the fries not too crispy nor soggy. They were especially good dipped in the tartar sauce. The restrooms were marked by gender - male and female. I felt more at home with those terms than I did the terms man and woman used back in the United States of America. Found it as a form of confidence builder as a female solo traveler that night. It was still light out when I left and I felt safe walking back out through the alley and to my hotel.

They have a wonderful selection of all sorts of seafood, including a couple of fish that I'd never heard of. Fresh or frozen, smoked, live, pre-cooked, filleted... you name it, they've probably got it. Each week's selection varies, depending on what the fishermen bring in, and they're only open on Fridays and Saturdays. The staff are really chatty and provide great advice if you're not sure what to do with your fish. It's run by a group of fishermen; everything comes straight off the boat and is very reasonably priced compared with other fishmongers (not that there's many on this side of the river). It's definitely worth making an effort to visit here, this is one of the best shops for seafood in town.

It opened in December and is a wee shop but with a lot of selection. I wasn't buying anything as I was off to meet a friend, but I had a bit of a nosey all the same. Whole monkfish, plaice, hake, skate as well as langoustines and scallops were out on display and all looked delicious. They also have a range of smoked products from Kintyre including salmon, haddock, clams and kippers. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and I promised to return soon to buy something. This shop is well worth a visit if you're looking for locally sourced fish and seafood.

The interior is classy and dark and has an "old money" feel in a good way. It's downstairs and you feel like you are entering somewhere secret and discrete. The only bad thing is they had the heat cranked UP when we went. It was so hot down there I didn't know how some of the staff were running around in long sleeves, I had to keep going outside to get some nice chilly air to take a break from all the heat. The food was 5 stars but the heat did make the experience not pleasant. Spring White Negroni: Gin, white vermouth, limoncello. Nice, cool, and refreshing in that hot, hot dining area, lol. New Style Sashimi: Salmon, bass, and scallops. Basically a crudo topped with furikake and slices of ginger. We thought this was overly sauced and a very unjapanese way to eat Sashimi so it was too far of a departure for us. Local Lindisframe Rock Oysters: Excellent, sweet and not too large, these you have to eat fast because of the heat. You can see the ice melting and fusing in the picture and I took that picture as soon as it was brought out! King Prawn Noodle Salad: This was SO good, our whole family loved it. If we come back we would definitely order this again. Wild Halibut with cabbage, peas, pancetta, and charred asparagus. Perfectly cooked but the sauce was too rich and creamy for us. Fish Soup: crabmeat, ginger, and prawn dumplings. Good bowl, would taste better on a cold day.

The standard of the food is outstanding, the service is impeccable, they have a small but select wine list and a good cocktail menu. All in a relaxed and not overcrowded atmosphere. It's been too long since we'd visited, but it was just as good as we remembered. I had the tuna sashimi to start - which unexpectedly came with chopsticks - while Herself went for the tuna tartare. Both absolutely delicious, melt-in-the-mouth good. For mains, it was the halibut and scallops for her; I tried the monkfish, although with some slight trepidation over the banana, green lentil and chickpea sauce. I needn't have worried though, it wasn't a very strong curry and actually worked really well with the monkfish and the haddock. Just enough room to squeeze in a dairy-free sorbet for me - they had a lovely cucumber sorbet that was served with the tuna tartare, so I tried that. Herself can never resist a good cheese board, and this one was good (so I'm told). All in all, a fantastic meal. So good that I completely forgot to take any pictures. The sad news is that Derek, the owner is apparently planning to retire and is looking for someone to take over the business, so my advice is to get in there quickly before he's gone. Oh - and they have Derek's Gamba cook books on sale, £20 each or two for £30. If you ask nicely, you may even get them autographed!
