First things first, this is a beautiful building. It's full of old period details, offset by a nice modern bar. There are loads of mirrors that mean that no matter where you look you get a lovely view. In terms of somewhere to spend your time it's a really comfortable environment. It's all table service as well, and this adds to the atmosphere. If you love gin then you're in heaven. With about 70 different gins split into sections based on flavour (old school, aromatics etc.) and a good cocktail list you can spend ages choosing different drinks to try. There is a flat pricing structure which makes life easier as well. I tended to ask the waiting staff what mixer to have with each drink, and although it was mostly tonic I'm sure you could get something different if you wanted. The weird thing, and the reason for the 4 stars is the fact that it's all seating. As a result, you have to wait outside for a table, and like us, if you have a lot of folk coming in at different times it can be a lottery as to whether everyone can get in. While the seating environment helps the atmosphere I'd happily sacrifice a little standing space to make sure everyone could get in. Other than that, it comes highly recommended. Well worth a look.

And who says Gin is a perfume, old women smelling drink!!! Move over oldies this place is HAPPENING!! So I manage to win a pair of tickets to the launch party. An evening of Free Gin? Canapés? Ehh I'm ok thanks? So let's start with the building it's self, small but beautiful with classic decor and chandeliers. Tea and cake during the day and classic Gin bar at night! First up we ordered 2 martini's one wet one dry. I had never had a Martini before so I wasn't sure what I was expecting taste wise. This was pleasant. Next up was a Hendricks TeaPot! Yes a full tea pot of Gin and Tonic. This was delicious and it will be my first drink when I go back! The tonic was so smooth it tasted like strawberries and was nice and refreshing. I really like this place, it has a good vibe. Live music, Gin and homemade Tonics.

Oh Gin, how I love thee. Visited here twice now, and had fab service and nights both times. Yes it's pricey, but the location is gorgeous, I could stare at the roof and chandelier all evening and I really like the table service aspect. Upon being seated, we were immediately brought water, popcorn and had the menu explained to us. Having loved it previously, we first went for the Hendricks gin tea pot. Perfect for Instagram (yes that's how I choose my drinks). During our first round, a local Glaswegian band started playing all types of songs, from Bare Neccesities to more recent hits. Such a nice touch and really gives the place atmosphere. For seconds (and lasts), we had a Botanist and tonic, and Rock Rose and tonic. I'm all for Scottish gin! The price does include the tonic and a double measure, so it's actually not terrible value! The gin flights look like a great way to spend an evening. My brother is a bit of a Gin snob, so will take him here when he's next down and re-review. You have to be seated to get in, so the table service can work efficiently. Some people love this, others don't. I like it, it never seems overly busy, and you can actually enjoy the company you are with. Not have to awkwardly sit as your company queues at the bar for a drink!

Apple and ginger mojito

Gin seems to be everywhere just now, not that I'm not complaining! As a recently gin convert, I'm more than happy that Gin 71 exists, but I only recently had my first visit before visiting Burger Meats Bun (nearly) next door. I've been a few times during the day while it's Cup Tea Lounge, and so was expecting more of the same. Yes, the decor is the same but they turn on some funky green lighting which gives it a different atmosphere so you could almost think you're in a completely different place. On this visit, I tried the apple & ginger mojito - "lime, mint and apple juice muddled with smooth dark rum and poured over crushed ice. Topped up with ginger beer and garnished with mint." It arrived quickly and was absolutely delicious, and not a bad price at £7.00. We stayed for about an hour and enjoyed the endless complimentary popcorn that was placed on the table (genius idea). Service was a little slow however which is the only reason this is a 4 star rather than 5 star review. That being said, I had a really great time and can't wait to go back to try the gin selection properly!

I'm a definite fan! Gin served in a hendricks teapot with teacups...how could I not like that!? This place is not the cheapest bar in glasgow but it is one that you should go to. You don't even need to love gin as they have a big selection of other booze.

Elderflower Edinburgh Gin with tonic and an apple garnish

What, oh, what can turn the quaint afternoon tea haven that is Cup into a wonderful gin emporium come nightfall? Does a teacup-adorned cupboard spin, in traditional panto style, revealing a thirst quenching hidden gin-bottle cavern? Or do the lights dim - a back catalogue of jazz pouring from the speakers? (Gin is a classy affair, of course!) As the clock strikes six, I imagine a large glowing disco ball slides from the ceiling, declaring one thing and one thing only; that, ladies and gentlemen, it has struck that fine hour of gin o'clock. - Now grab yourself a G&T for it is time to party! You won't be surprised to know that there is none of this. - Gin71 is simply Cup with gin. And lots of it at that! I was a little apprehensive because Cup is so perfectly suited to afternoon tea and cake. - Just how would it fare come gin time? The gin selection is impressive, it really is! Holy moly, there's gin from here, from there, from everywhere. And homemade tonics and garnishes and gin flights and a gin tasting platters. (Oooh, fancy!) Gin, gin, gin! Just looking at the stuff makes me giddy. This is gin heaven. All I really wanted was a no-frills gin and tonic so I did feel a little bit swamped by fancy tempting gins and opted for an old favourite. - Elderflower Edinburgh gin. I had it with tonic and an apple garnish. - Delicious! The staff seemed a little pre-occupied as it had just struck six and they were getting things ready whilst the place was quieter but as soon as we were ready to order/pay it wasn't long till someone friendly was at hand. I'd say it's a 3.5 from me for now due to the fact that we arrived very early and it was slightly lacking in atmosphere. Although, if you ask me to try Gin71 a little later in the evening, you can count me in!

Absolutely loved it here. It's a tea shop by day and gin bar by night. The service was super friendly - though that's probably attributed to Glaswegians being a friendly bunch of people in general. Anyhow, I had the corpse reviver first - which was delicious. I've had plenty of other corpse revivers and this was the ceiling, I tell you. I opted to follow up with straight up gin and settled for the Makar (local Glasgow). It was so smooth with no bitter after taste - opened my eyes to a gin-ormous new world of possibilities. I really wish there's a place like this back at home cuz I'd patronize the hell out of it.

So for my 150th review I have the opportunity to tell you about Gin71. Trudie M managed to win us a pair of tickets to the launch party by doing a picture for the subway selfie competition that they were running. This meant we had the opportunity to enjoy lots of free gin and canapés, but I can still honestly say that without the freebies it is still a place I would go back to and pay for a drink. Inside is very vintage in its styling as they have stripped back the modern decor to reveal the older touches and it works really well. The gin menu is massive. I did not know this many gins even existed to be honest, but there definitely seems to be something for everyone. Artisan gins, fruit gins, martinis, gin floats, gins from America and loads from across the UK. Some favourite things from the launch party. The Edinburgh raspberry gin with champagne, Hendricks fruit teapot of gin and the huge abundance of canapés. Everything from chocolate covered strawberries to bang bang chicken to salmon with cream cheese.... Mmmmmm I'm starting to get hungry again writing this!! The staff on the night were super friendly and very helpful. The magician and the singer who were there to entertain us were excellent. If u love gin and fancy a few posh drinks in some classy surroundings then this is the place for you.

She appreciated that the drinks were cheap and despite working there admitted to going socially on a regular basis. I ordered a coconut fruity cocktail of some sort and my husband got the Long Island iced tea, however they put coke in it. And while it is described that way on the menu we've never heard of coke in a Long Island iced tea. The drinks here are much too sugary for our liking, but we can definitely see the appeal for the 20 somethings, especially when they have a live DJ.

The club is intimately sized and follows a retro early-mid 20th century aesthetic. This is backed up by the fantastic service by the staff who address you as sir and madam. The entertainment began with RadioJam; a guy and girl duo playing acoustic r'n'b, which would normally be my idea of hell but it actually fit the mood nicely and my missus was ready to take them home with us to play in our living room on demand. After a short break, they were followed by the Fortunate Sons and their brand of Americana/bluegrass, which then had us up for a bit of dancing! As mentioned, the place is small so there's no place to hide if you want to throw some shapes. There was also a spot of aerial acrobatics by Silks. It was a short performance but threw up something different and was visually compelling. Swing is apparently famed for its cocktails and i agree. The two bartenders obviously knew their stuff and took pride in the drinks. At the start of the night when it's still quiet, they make more of a show of it and my 'Old Fashioned' was quite impressive compared to some previously had poor efforts elsewhere. Suffice to say, I reflected my appreciation with a good tip. There is a cocktail menu (which i think they vary each week) but they will make whatever you like. Also, while it's quiet at the start of the evening you will get table service but understandably this peeters off as the club fills up. Cocktails are pricey so take plenty of dosh if you're going to be ordering a few. However, beers etc., are more reasonable. Another thing I liked was when a large hen party showed up, clad in sashes and all the usual getup, a polite word was had from the club owner to remove their gear as this, I guess, is not what he wants his club to be known for. And to be honest it was the most dour faced hen party I have ever seen! We booked ahead to secure a table at an exrta cost (£7.50 pp) but folks can pay on the door for £5. I'd recommend getting a seat.

Then as far as the food: the oysters had some odd watermelon flavor on them with a jalapeno?! (Plus, apparently half a dozen = 5). The salad was tiny with no dressing and I asked for balsamic or something and they brought out a larger salad with no dressing?! The cauliflower was cold and no sauce... They brought out more that was hot with sauce (which is the only reason I knew it should have that). I had to go to the bar and ask a bartender to bring more wine since the servers were not checking in at all. Terrible experience.

There was about 15 of us there for dinner and we had a set menu printed up with a picture of my friend on it which in hindsight was easier for the staff with such a big group. The restaurant interior is very luxe. There is a grand piano right at the entrance and lots of leather seating and lavish lighting fixtures. It is definitely a restaurant for a special occasion. There was one waitress allocated to look after our group and she was really attentive and made sure we never waited too long for drinks despite the restaurant being quite busy. From our menu I choose soft shell crab to start with salsa and guacamole, then fillet steak, chips and peppercorn sauce. Then the piece de resistance my dessert which was a rhubarb and custard filled doughnut with salted popcorn and bacon candy floss, yes you read that right bacon flavoured candy floss! The food was delicious and well made. The crab was deep fried and was light, tasty and crunchy and was complimented well by the fresh salsa and guacamole. The steak was cooked just how I liked it and with little to no fat and tasted amazing with the saltiness of the chips. Then there was the dessert. Calling it a doughnut was a little misleading as it was more the size of a doughnut hole but it was a taste sensation paired with the saltiness of the popcorn, the sharpness of the rhubarb and the sweetness of the candy floss which didn't taste too much like bacon at all. The only downside to my experience was at times the waiters became a bit flustered and got a few of our orders mixed up and came to a standstill instead of trouble shooting to rectify the mistakes. Also and I'm aware of how petty it sounds but the garnishes on the dishes were a bit lifeless, a couple of leaves of wilted rocket and a few squished tomatoes, it would be better to just leave them off the plate. Overall my experience in The Spiritualist was great, beautiful decor , great food and consistent service and I feel I would definitely return for a special occasion.

Because this place is part fancy cocktail bar, part football bar. I'm not saying that I didn't like this place, I actually really did. It was a nice place to catch up with a friend over some food and chat for a few hours. It's a very modern/upmarket place, but as I said in the intro, there's TVs around the place showing football. I think without the TVs I would really love this place, but I'm not into football at all. It was a Tuesday afternoon so I don't even know what game they were showing, but some people were watching it, so obviously that has some appeal. I had a virgin mojito which was lovely (if I'd been driving I would have had the non-virgin one, obviously!) and a couple of small dishes instead of a main. The squid starter was lovely, a generous portion and perfectly cooked. I also got a side of mac cheese which was deliciously cheesy and actually really big for a side. I didn't complain, obviously. Service was really good while we were there - the staff looking after our table were super friendly and chatty without being overbearing. Prices were reasonable and the place had a good vibe. I would definitely go back here to try it out again as I did really like it, and perhaps sitting in the restaurant area away from the TVs would be a bit more pleasant. Otherwise it was really nice.

The minute you walk in you feel like you're walking into a modern Latin American restaurant - sexy, dark, colourful are all the adjectives that are popping out at me. We came in on a Saturday night and it was busy, busy, busy. People were dancing, professional dancers were in full costume, every table was full, and all the guests looked happy taking down their fancy cocktails. The one downside of it being busy? It was hard to get a drink from the bartender. But once we got his attention, he was quick to serve. Our trip was short and sweet, since we had many other bars we wanted to visit this night. The décor is okay, functional as much as interesting, there is a nice selection of spirits, especially rum, and I suspect that the tables can be cleared for salsa, gigs etc. The food and service though was slightly disappointing. Not that our server wasn't chatty or pleasant, the exact opposite in fact, it's just that the food took a while to arrive. Again, the menu is slightly disappointing too, there is very little on there that is specifically Cuban, in fact most of it would not be out of place in a Spanish tapas bar. I ordered albondigas (meatballs in tomato sauce), sticky chicken skewers, and the roasted chorizo. It took a while, when it did come though it was all tepid, it just wasn't warm enough, unlike my partner's, hers were all fine, but then again she didn't get the Gambas Pil Pil she wanted nor the tea at the end because it was taking too long! The roasted chorizo was great, a nice smooth chorizo with a really tasty red wine, honey and onion sauce. I also had some of my partner's Cajun cream mushrooms and they were creamy, spicy and properly warm. Nice large olives too. The meatballs were not bad, quite tasty, although I personally like them firmer, and the tomato sauce wasn't broken down enough, meaning it was separated and it certainly didn't coat well. The skewers weren't "sticky" enough, making them a little drier and the lime and honey flavour not as intense as it could have been. I'm sure it'll get better, these are no doubt just teething problems, but on the basis of this visit it's a three.

I asked about gluten free too (as I knew I'd be writing this post) and they have lots of gluten free alternatives as well. If you're not sure just ask the staff. My partner isn't vegan and had the fish and chips on one trip and the rarebit and jerk chicken on another. He was raving about how good the fish and chips were and the rarebit looked and smelled amazing. I stole one of the caramelised onions from the top and they were tasty! We is a major fried chicken fan so was always going to be chuffed with the jerk chicken. Speaking of the staff, they are all super friendly, nice and up for a bit of chat. This place is great for a bite to eat but even better for drinks. The gantry is incredibly impressive with lots of tasty spirit varieties (esp gin!) and even a gin cocktail that put me in a good mood. Lots of interesting beers in the fridges and on tap alongside some classics. I'm a desperado kind of gal while my partner sticks to Tennents. The decor is really impressive too.
