She was very friendly and obliged us by answering questions about the ideal time to visit their establishment. She was a local and explained that around 10p it has much more of a club vibe. She appreciated that the drinks were cheap and despite working there admitted to going socially on a regular basis. I ordered a coconut fruity cocktail of some sort and my husband got the Long Island iced tea, however they put coke in it. And while it is described that way on the menu we've never heard of coke in a Long Island iced tea. The drinks here are much too sugary for our liking, but we can definitely see the appeal for the 20 somethings, especially when they have a live DJ.

Cheap drinks and shots. the place is pro at shots, they have many very fun little shots and the are super cheap. some have even absinth or candy. Small spot and gets. Busy, perfect meet up spot, because the place has cheap shots and being a small place it is a perfect spot to meet up friends before the night out for a quick and chaperons pre game. some of the shots have a bit of obscene names and that will make you giggle when you hear yourself order it. all shots have a photo of them next to their names and my favorite shot there has an adult name but you will know it once you see the menu and had pink as its first name :D. There's some outlets to charge your phone in some walls by tables. there is no food here but plenty to drink and experiment.

The Spiritualist - The raspberry smash!

Do not be persuaded by the hip (though random) decor. We didn't receive even our drinks or water…read morefor an hour! Then it was 2.5 hours until our good arrived which was cold or luke warm! Then as far as the food: the oysters had some odd watermelon flavor on them with a jalapeno?! (Plus, apparently half a dozen = 5). The salad was tiny with no dressing and I asked for balsamic or something and they brought out a larger salad with no dressing?! The cauliflower was cold and no sauce... They brought out more that was hot with sauce (which is the only reason I knew it should have that). I had to go to the bar and ask a bartender to bring more wine since the servers were not checking in at all. Terrible experience.

This involved a wine tasting…read moresession which was educational, a dinner in The Spiritualist and then that's really about all I can remember! There was about 15 of us there for dinner and we had a set menu printed up with a picture of my friend on it which in hindsight was easier for the staff with such a big group. The restaurant interior is very luxe. There is a grand piano right at the entrance and lots of leather seating and lavish lighting fixtures. It is definitely a restaurant for a special occasion. There was one waitress allocated to look after our group and she was really attentive and made sure we never waited too long for drinks despite the restaurant being quite busy. From our menu I choose soft shell crab to start with salsa and guacamole, then fillet steak, chips and peppercorn sauce. Then the piece de resistance my dessert which was a rhubarb and custard filled doughnut with salted popcorn and bacon candy floss, yes you read that right bacon flavoured candy floss! The food was delicious and well made. The crab was deep fried and was light, tasty and crunchy and was complimented well by the fresh salsa and guacamole. The steak was cooked just how I liked it and with little to no fat and tasted amazing with the saltiness of the chips. Then there was the dessert. Calling it a doughnut was a little misleading as it was more the size of a doughnut hole but it was a taste sensation paired with the saltiness of the popcorn, the sharpness of the rhubarb and the sweetness of the candy floss which didn't taste too much like bacon at all. The only downside to my experience was at times the waiters became a bit flustered and got a few of our orders mixed up and came to a standstill instead of trouble shooting to rectify the mistakes. Also and I'm aware of how petty it sounds but the garnishes on the dishes were a bit lifeless, a couple of leaves of wilted rocket and a few squished tomatoes, it would be better to just leave them off the plate. Overall my experience in The Spiritualist was great, beautiful decor , great food and consistent service and I feel I would definitely return for a special occasion.

The Bowery - cool bar!

Because this place is part fancy cocktail bar, part football bar. I'm not saying that I didn't like this place, I actually really did. It was a nice place to catch up with a friend over some food and chat for a few hours. It's a very modern/upmarket place, but as I said in the intro, there's TVs around the place showing football. I think without the TVs I would really love this place, but I'm not into football at all. It was a Tuesday afternoon so I don't even know what game they were showing, but some people were watching it, so obviously that has some appeal. I had a virgin mojito which was lovely (if I'd been driving I would have had the non-virgin one, obviously!) and a couple of small dishes instead of a main. The squid starter was lovely, a generous portion and perfectly cooked. I also got a side of mac cheese which was deliciously cheesy and actually really big for a side. I didn't complain, obviously. Service was really good while we were there - the staff looking after our table were super friendly and chatty without being overbearing. Prices were reasonable and the place had a good vibe. I would definitely go back here to try it out again as I did really like it, and perhaps sitting in the restaurant area away from the TVs would be a bit more pleasant. Otherwise it was really nice.

4 stars for drinks alone, I will come back and review again once I get to try the food!…read more Kris and I popped in on our way to Ichiban for a drink (or two, heehee!) and were pleasantly surprised on trying the Bowery. The sleek and stylish interior matches the clean-cut look on the exterior, making the Bowery stand out against the lovably scruffy look that Queen St seems to have (that is a compliment btw!) The drinks menu is extensive; they have a nice range of beers and wines and some tasty-sounding cocktails too. The atmosphere was quiet and serene when we visited, which gives me the impression that this would make a great venue for a post-shopping lunch/cocktail date with friends. Lovely!

Damn, this place is cool…read more Revolución de Cuba was one of many bars on my list that I needed to visit while I was in Glasgow. Located on the bustling Renfrew St. this place is hard to miss. The minute you walk in you feel like you're walking into a modern Latin American restaurant - sexy, dark, colourful are all the adjectives that are popping out at me. We came in on a Saturday night and it was busy, busy, busy. People were dancing, professional dancers were in full costume, every table was full, and all the guests looked happy taking down their fancy cocktails. The one downside of it being busy? It was hard to get a drink from the bartender. But once we got his attention, he was quick to serve. Our trip was short and sweet, since we had many other bars we wanted to visit this night. One drink and we were out of there. I would definitely come back for more drinks and dancing though. They also have a food menu that looked quite good, but unfortunately I didn't try anything. Good music, good vibes, good drinks. What more could you want?

The décor is okay, functional as much as interesting, there is a nice selection of spirits, especially rum, and I suspect that the tables can be cleared for salsa, gigs etc. The food and service though was slightly disappointing. Not that our server wasn't chatty or pleasant, the exact opposite in fact, it's just that the food took a while to arrive. Again, the menu is slightly disappointing too, there is very little on there that is specifically Cuban, in fact most of it would not be out of place in a Spanish tapas bar. I ordered albondigas (meatballs in tomato sauce), sticky chicken skewers, and the roasted chorizo. It took a while, when it did come though it was all tepid, it just wasn't warm enough, unlike my partner's, hers were all fine, but then again she didn't get the Gambas Pil Pil she wanted nor the tea at the end because it was taking too long! The roasted chorizo was great, a nice smooth chorizo with a really tasty red wine, honey and onion sauce. I also had some of my partner's Cajun cream mushrooms and they were creamy, spicy and properly warm. Nice large olives too. The meatballs were not bad, quite tasty, although I personally like them firmer, and the tomato sauce wasn't broken down enough, meaning it was separated and it certainly didn't coat well. The skewers weren't "sticky" enough, making them a little drier and the lime and honey flavour not as intense as it could have been. I'm sure it'll get better, these are no doubt just teething problems, but on the basis of this visit it's a three.

There were also a couple of menu items they didn't have. I ordered the basic burger and fries. Maybe it's my Americanized taste buds but the burger had a slightly gamy taste and lacked the greasy fat that I've come to enjoy. The condiments were fine with an onion ring, tomato, and lettuce leaf. The fries (or as they say here, chips) were spot on very good. Crispy outside and soft/slightly sweet inside. The service was nice and I liked the fact that the music wasn't so loud you could actually have a conversation without raising my voice.

I'm a bit of a chip purist and I have to say that this place does some of the best chips in Glasgow. I would say the best chips in Glasgow but chips are so versatile, so I'll stick to best thick cut chips in Glasgow instead. Super crispy on the outside and beautiful and fluffy on the inside. They even leave the skins on, perfection! I'm vegan so have only tried the vegan curry (amazing! and big portions) and the soup of the day which comes with lovely chunky bread. The chef told me that the soup of the day will always be vegan and although there appears to be only one dedicated vegan option on the menu, the chef let me know that they will veganise almost anything on the menu. I asked about gluten free too (as I knew I'd be writing this post) and they have lots of gluten free alternatives as well. If you're not sure just ask the staff. My partner isn't vegan and had the fish and chips on one trip and the rarebit and jerk chicken on another. He was raving about how good the fish and chips were and the rarebit looked and smelled amazing. I stole one of the caramelised onions from the top and they were tasty! We is a major fried chicken fan so was always going to be chuffed with the jerk chicken. Speaking of the staff, they are all super friendly, nice and up for a bit of chat. This place is great for a bite to eat but even better for drinks. The gantry is incredibly impressive with lots of tasty spirit varieties (esp gin!) and even a gin cocktail that put me in a good mood. Lots of interesting beers in the fridges and on tap alongside some classics. I'm a desperado kind of gal while my partner sticks to Tennents. The decor is really impressive too. Dark but with warm lighting which makes the place feel comfortable with some quirky lampshades and furnishings that gives it a cool but laid back feel. Also, the bathrooms supply complimentary deodorant, hairspray and sanitary towels which I always think is a nice thoughtful touch. All in all this new place is my new favourite city centre boozer and a place I enjoy chilling out in.
