    Butternut Squash Risotto

I've been here twice, and I will probably come back really, really often. Now comes the weird part of the confession. I am not really a big fan of beer as such and I have ridiculously little knowledge about it, despite the fact that I worked in Germany for about a year. However, on to 6 Degrees North: I like the ambience, a really modern and spacious interior, and I am impressed by the kindness of the staff. They recommended me to try the Cassis beer, which is just fantastic. But what makes me want to come back here is the food. I have already tried their peanut butter and squash risotto, apple tart tatine, cheese croquettes, the north sea bouillabasse and the brownie. This means that I have already tasted about a fifth of the menu (because I also got a few bits from whatever my boyfriend ordered at these two occasions), and I must say, there is nothing I could change to make the food taste any better. All of these were just perfectly prepared and quickly brought to us, I would also say the ingredients were of really good quality. The only thing I am not sure about is whether I should try something new next time or order the risotto again - because that sure was amazing.

Wow, what's NOT to like about this place??? 6° North has finally landed in Glasgow after the Aberdeen brewery firmly established itself in Aberdeen and I for one am welcoming them with open arms to our city. 6° North is not your average craft beer bar as they focus heavily on Belgian and Trappist type beers. Some are brewed by 6° North themselves and others are imported guest beer from Belgium / France etc. I counted around 30 taps and well over 100 bottles when I was last in. This is a place for beer aficionados and people wanting to try something a little different. With so many different types of beer on offer, like wheat beers, fruit beers, gose, hoppy ales you will definitely find something for you. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly so its worthwhile asking for recommendations. The bar itself is wonderful. Very Scandinavian in style, fresh, modern and clean. I've also eaten here twice and found the food to be excellent value. It has some classic pub fayre meals too, like burgers / fish and chips, but is mixed up with some interesting Belgian style food with things like Liege Salad and Toulouse Sausage Stew etc. So, if you fancy a bit of Gastropub food action this place also hits the spot. Although perhaps a little out of the way at first glance, its actually very close to Partick Station which is well connected by the Subway and trains. 6° North is certainly a great destination pub and a place I could happily spend hours in! A brilliant addition to the great up and coming Glasgow beer scene.

An update to just really to say this place is still magnificent. A particular shout out to the staff. One lady in particular is Always so helpful and pleasant it never ceases to amaze me how cheery she is. I was in with my father and mother in law recently and she ran through options, came up with a lager shandy when requested and generally just contributed to us having a few great pre-lunch drinks. I'm not actually even a huge Belgian beer fan, but there is plenty of other options and I am also enjoying being brave at times and trying some Belgian styles I would not normally go for. Such a great place and always plenty of space for you to bring your dug along to if you want to.

This place is stellar! It is an open floor plan feel with exposed brick and lots of wood. Absolutely gorgeous place to hang out in. On top of that, their beer list is massive! So many great brews on tap and some real unique bottled beers. They also have wine and cocktails. A lot of times, places like this maybe have ok food, but I was really impressed with the quality of the food. It's true, there aren't as many dining options for vegetarians and perhaps almost none for vegans, but I still managed to get down on the cheese plate and butternut squash risotto. The beers were glorious. Started off with a cherry beer and then moved onto a sour beer. Hard to find sour beers in Glasgow and 6 Degrees North has you covered. What's cool about this place: the prices are super reasonable! A lot of the food come in two sizes (petit and large), I went for petit and was happily surprised that they were a decent sized portion. Also...they are super dog friendly! Brought my two pups and was happy to see plenty of other dogs around, chilling out and boozing it up :) Only negative - - it can get kind of loud in there so although it has large tables, it is kind of hard to talk if you have a larger group

A very welcome addition to the neighbourhood! We dropped by on Saturday late afternoon/early evening to check it out. It was packed and buzzing but one table fortuitously became free as we entered so we nabbed it. Rugby was being shown on the TV at the bar but didn't dominate the atmosphere. Many features from the establishments that have occupied the space previously remain including the decorative tiles and the bicycle, with the addition of fresh new wooden bench seats and tables. The wall between the old Velvet Elvis and Criterion has been partially knocked through, joining the two spaces. We ordered some food to share - beer soup, cheese croquettes and a half portion of butternut squash risotto - plus I had a six°north Hop Classic Belgian IPA to accompany it. Wow, absolutely loved all of it! The soup came served in a bread bowl and was a lovely vegetable soup with a hint of warming spices. The bread was good too, nice and fluffy inside. The portion size of the cheese croquettes seemed small (well, for sharing anyway - you'll want one of these to yourself as a starter!) but they were absolutely delicious, the mix of cheeses worked so well together with the beer, and the pickled vegetable ribbons were the perfect refreshing accompaniment. The butternut squash risotto was soooooo good, one of the best I've had - packed with delicious flavours but without being too rich or heavy. The food and beer complimented each other brilliantly, they have got it spot on. I love that you have the choice to order some of the mains as petit or grande sizes - makes it easier for indecisive folk like me who want to try more than one thing, or if you're not quite hungry enough for a full serving. The menu has a handy description of each beer if you're overwhelmed by the choice. I had my eye on quite a few, though I was slightly fuzzy headed after one so saving them for next time! Price wise I cannot fault them either - for the 3 dishes and 3 drinks the bill came to around £25, bargain. Can't wait to come back to try more beers and sample more from the menu!

I'll give this 5 stars once I have the chance to go back and try the food; my first visit with my brother was purely out of nosiness and our search for good beer! And good beer we did find in 6 Degrees North! The bar has changed so much since it used to be Velvet Elvis and Criterion (my old locals, sob!); the interior designer/architect is to be applauded on their creativity with the space. What used to be 2 lovely but slightly cramped bars is now 1 spacious and airy craft beer haven! The beers are served in schooners or halves, and alongside 6DN's own beers their is an eye-wateringly long list of bottled beers to choose from too. Sadly I can't remember exactly which of 6DN's own beers I had but I remember each one being beautiful, drinkable and worth going back for...

    Chopper Stout. Lovely!

Yip, fair to say we were very impressed on our first visit here. We decided to focus on the tap menu, and with over 30 taps, for me, this is absolutely the best thing about this place. That really is PLENTY of taps. I'm into my stouts, so first of all had a six degree north Chopper. It's 7%, and at £2.65 for a half pint, I think that's a good price. It was absolutely delicious too. Next up I had a Adnams Blackshore, 4.2% and £3 for 2/3 pint. Again, I think that's reasonable. There's certain other craft beer type places I can think of where you'd pay a considerable amount more. There was one other stout on the tap menu - a Redchurch Hoxton, but I didn't get round to trying it - that's something to look forward to next time. I was happy to have 3 to choose from - a lot of bars only have one stout on draft - a well known Irish effort, (which personally I think is bland and watery and will only really drink as a last resort). I also like that they're dug-friendly. I don't actually have a dog, but I do like a good pub-dug. Just sitting chillin' under the tables, looking up at you with big dug-eyes. The dug in my eye-line was even brought a bowl of water. How thoughtful! The one gripe I had was the lighting. Harsh. Far far too harsh. Jeezo guys, we're drinking beer, not conducting a surgical procedure. If you could turn it down from the 'set to stun' setting that it's currently on, that would be smashing thanks. We had to move tables it was so bright at the first table, and while the second table was slightly better, it's still not relaxing or comfortable with such bright overhead lighting. Oh yeah actually, that reminds me - gripe number two - the benches are not comfortable. Hard edges! Really hard edges. What are you thinking?! Uncalled for and unnecessary. Sharp edged benches - ugh. That being said, I would go back. It's an excellent choice if there's a few of you and you fancy a few drinks, and maybe some ad-hoc eating once you've had several pints. Location wise, unless you live in Partick, this place is a wee bit of a treck. I mean in terms of your normal pub stoatin' distance. It's maybe 3 blocks further away than you think it is. It's ALWAYS 3 blocks further away than I think it is. Even if you get the subway to Partick, it's still quite far. Just get the bus. I know, I know, some people fear the bus germs - get over it, and get on the bus. It's worth it. A bargain at £1.20. Any bus going from the junction at the bottom of Byres Rd will take you along this way. The bus stop is directly opposite. The bus for the way back is directly outside. We got the bus back, and were delighted with our super-sized chariot. To sum up what has become somewhat of a ramble, I'm really glad we now have a six degrees north in Glasgow. They seem like cool people with a good approach to making beer and making folks happy.

I've been desperate to try here since it opened, and have to say I wasn't dissapointed. I'm a big fan of Belgian beer so 6 Degrees North was right up my street. The location may seem a bit out of the way (not for me, I live 5 minutes away) but it is seriously worth the detour. Here and BrewDog pretty much bookend a mile long road of good drinking (best places at either end!) The selection of beer in here is very good, I think there's around 30+ beers on tap, which is pretty impressive. There's a wide selection for everyone I would say, even those not too keen on beer would probably enjoy some of the fruit beers on offer, they are pretty tasty. Bar staff were very helpful on providing options, as the selection is a bit overwhelming. They have a good range of their own beer (brewed in Aberdeen I think) and some more well known Belgian beers. There's plenty of seating in the venue as well, and space round the bar. Have yet to try food but if it's anything like the beer, I'm sure it'll be pretty great.

I've come to like this place a lot. It wasn't immediate but it grew on me. Don't get me wrong I always liked it, but after about the third visit I just started to like it a lot more. I guess that could be because it was a consistently excellent experience. To me, that's what does it with a restaurant - if you don't have to think, but just order anything and it'll be great. That is what makes me come back again and again. In this case, I love their food but I'm also impressed by their selection of beer, including several more unusual or less common ones (such as a chassis beer which is great if you want something more mellow and less strong). The atmosphere is laid back and minimalistic, which I happen to like a lot, and the service is always fast and friendly. I also like the location as it's easy to reach by car and parking is a breeze (I can't say anything about reaching it by other means as I never tried). So to sum it up: great food, a great beer selection, prices are reasonable, overall it makes an excellent impression and I'm sure I'll be back a lot :-).

It was only the day before that this place was set to open that I even discovered it was going to open at all. Only being somewhat familiar with their beer, and less of the food served in their pubs, my quick search on the website was enough to convince me to go. I requested assistance of a beer drinking friend to explore the menu and find out how it was. I'll admit it was a little hectic tonight and it took a moment to figure out if we should seat ourselves or be seated. Once we figured that out, we sat down and eventually were given menus. There's a sheet for the food, a sheet for the beers on tap, and an entire booklet for all of the bottled beer. As much it was overwhelming to have so much choice, I ended up getting Jiang Shi by Six Degress North, as it seemed fun to get a beer by the brewery on their opening night. The food ordering became exciting as most of the foods are available by both main dish size and as starter/sharer size. Exploring a new place seemed like the best excuse to get a lot of smaller things rather than any large dishes so the order went as such: one beer soup each (can you really share a bread bowl of soup?), baked camembert with garlic and bread, chicken liver parfait, and carbonade. It was only my sense of budget that stopped me from really wanting to get more. We were asked if we wanted the food as it was ready or in a more traditional serving order. I didn't have strong opinions but decided to get the soups first anyway, mostly for space reasons My beer came out quickly, and it had the lovely tropical notes that the description promised. It then didn't take long for the soup. I admit that my mind always associates beer soup with beer cheese soup, and so was surprised to instead get something bright orange and very much a carrot soup. Once I got over this shock though, the soup was very enjoyable. The beer was subtle but it really worked. The way it was worded on the menu also made it sound like the beer soup would be changing pretty regularly, so that should end up getting a nice variety over time. We both ate all of the bread and soup and anxiously waited for the rest of the food. It all came out at once and it was al beautiful. Just plates of cheese, meat, and bread. The carbonade was deep and rich with very tender meat and a nice side of mashed potatoes and some very fresh looking vegetables with it. It was only the starter portion but I'd consider it more like light lunch sized. I can imagine the normal portion is massive. The camembert is only available in the one size and is quite literally a whole tiny wheel. The description said it but when it came out, it was just amazing. The garlic was in the form of full roasted cloves of garlic. They did go a little light on the bread for my tastes but I say that about everywhere. As for the quality, it's melted cheese and garlic. It was perfectly oozy and that's just magical. The chicken parfait was the least appealing looking of the dishes, but it's hard to make chicken pâté look delicious. The real test is in the taste and it passed. It was all I wanted in the pâté: it was smooth, subtle, and delicious. The fig chutney on the side was really an unexpected gem and paired fabulously with the pâté. But did I stop there? No. I'd normally skip dessert but the Belgian brownie with cappuccino ice cream and Kriek sauce called to me. It's been a rough week and the only thing to fix that is all I've had and the brownie. Or so I thought at the moment, and I was luckily correct. The brownie was delicious, the ice cream was delicious, and the sauce was delicious. Service was a bit slow, but it was opening night and it was clear to me that my server was still feeling a bit overwhelmed. She seemed to apologise for how hectic it was and I honestly didn't mind the slowness. Given the amount of people, most of which probably needed a lot of help with the very long beer menu it was entirely acceptable to need to wait because it was busy. It was really obvious everyone was getting into the rhythm of things and I expect good things in the future as it's open for longer. Everyone working there deserves top marks for handling the crowds so well. My only regret was I ate so much food that my PhD student budget did not allow me to try more of the beer. While I have seen larger beer lists, the list is focused on a very impressive selection of beers primarily Belgian beers and that makes up for it it. I'm not suggesting that the list is small, but the aim seems to be to have quality beers over having a lot of them. It will take me very a long time before I'd get bored of the list, and that's assuming nothing on it changes (which is unlikely). It's a bit out of the way for many people, but it's well worth it as it was a great experience. Just make sure you go with people who share food because you'll never be able to pick what to eat if you just get one thing.

This is my second visit here, a cheeky beer on a Sunday afternoon with my Daughter and the wee cuz. I really like the beer selection 30 different beers on tap and lots more on offer in bottles and some really delicious food. We all had a beer to start with and ordered some food for a snack. I had really delicious Carrot & Ginger soup served in a bread bowl Yummy!!! @ £5.00 and very filling I had help from the other two to finish it. My Daughter had some Chicken Croquets with scrummy pickled vegetables and the wee cuz had Scallops which come in small plate for £8.00 and large plate £16.00. My Daughter and I sampled some more of the delicious beers the wee cuz fancied her usual Rose wine and this is where they lose a star. They only had red or white and even then only two kinds of white Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. I know they are primarily a Beer Bar but they have an extensive Gantry of Spirits, come on Six Degrees North, Rose is a very popular wine with the girls get with the programme.

30 draft beers, can't get better than that tbh especially in partick were beer is limited!! Worth a visit defos!!!!! I'm

Stumps does have the usual kind of crowd and traditional look to it, but I was taken by surprise to hear Metallica blasting from the jukebox as soon as I walked in the door. As they are one of my favourite bands I took an instant shine to this place. The jukebox was actually very much the same kind you see in a Scream pub, with a massive choice of songs - very unusual for a pub like this but certainly very welcome. It felt great to be able to buy a pint, put on the Who on the jukebox and then kick back and relax. It felt quite warm inside too, even though it was a bitterly cold day in January.
