Three Judges
Darryl R.

Subcrawls are legendary in Glasgow - even if you've never done one, you know the basic rules (and a few of their adaptations): no sitting down on the tube, no two drinks are to be the same, etc, etc. Being situated opposite the Kelvinhall sub stop, the Three Judges are used to this banter, and what it entails - hordes of drunken people laughing about how whilst on the subway, 'Jeff' fell into/onto a couple sitting/standing by the doors/the train tracks at the last station., 'Classic Jeff', (apparently). From the outside, the Three Judges doesn't look like a welcoming place - it's definitely got that 'local' feel about it - but don't be put off! It's a nice place, really. The staff at the Three Judges take in everyone with fine fettle, and don't moan, even when 'Jeff' props up the bar and demands a 'vodkacokepleeesh" - he might even have a wee squabble with them, demanding that he's "noa hayd tha much tae drink... just a few, ken like?". Most creatures like our friend Jeff here end up being shown the door, but only if they are aggrievated or too roudy, otherwise they're left alone, to possibly sleep it off at one of the corner tables. Enjoyed by students, locals and travellers alike, the Three Judges is a nice place for a nice pint, or 5. There's only one question left unanswered though: who is 'Jeff' anyway, and what did he do to deserve this run of bad luck!?

I think this a great pub. It's warm, it has a great atmosphere and the wood finishing and large wooden tables makes it feel like you are in a place with history and character. In the West End it is great to have a pub that has a unique vibe and has not been seduced by the possibility of extra profit if it tried to cater to the student crowd. If you like ales then this really is a Dumbarton Road Mecca. They have an impressive selection and some good single malts as well. I've been on a quiet Monday and a busy Friday and both times I was impressed by the friendly bar service and the relaxing vibe. Perfect if you want a chilled out weeknight or a heavy weekend.

In my opinion a great pub one of the few pubs that you can grab a pint and do what you want to do read a paper or book have a conversation with a complete stranger or chill with a friend and talk to complete strangers without background noise loud music or a tv blaring away...and your spoilt for choice regards your tipple Sundays jazz is a gem but get in early doors it gets a bit busy

I've been a few times (one was on a subcrawl so I'm not sure that even counts) and I've always found it to be a welcoming kind of place.

It's cozy, crowded, and buzzing with life -- often standing room only and packed shoulder-to-shoulder with locals and travelers alike. If you're a whisky fan (or even just whisky-curious), do yourself a favor and try one of their Scotland whisky flights. It's like taking a mini tour of the country's whisky regions without ever leaving your barstool -- and without worrying about driving. The bartenders really know their stuff and are happy to guide you toward something you'll love. A quick heads-up: no football colors allowed, which keeps the atmosphere friendly and relaxed no matter who you support. And speaking of friendly -- the locals here are as welcoming as they come. This is exactly the kind of place where Scotland's famous pub culture shines. Prices are surprisingly reasonable too, so you can sample a few drams without feeling guilty. Whether you're a seasoned whisky nerd or just looking to experience the local vibe, this is the spot. Pull up a stool (if you can find one) and enjoy a proper Scottish night out

Their selection is so huge they don't have a menu, you just have to ask for your label or take their recommendations. Naturally, most of the selection is Scottish whiskey, but if you somehow prefer otherwise, (say you are a local tired of Scotch... or just want to reaffirm nothing beats a Scotch?) they do offer whiskey from other countries, as well as beer and ciders, as well as gin, rum and the like. They do offer pies and other bar food, but we went after dinner and just couldn't stomach more food, tempting as they may sound.

Good location to stop on your way back from Kelvingrove's Art Gallery and Museum. We walked from the museum to the pub without any problems. It's nice on the inside. There are some tables and the bar is at the center with a nice display of alcohol both on tap and on the walls. Beer: there was large selection of beer and liquor to choose from. I was looking for a good stout and the bartender, Andrew gave me some really good recommendations. I settled on the Overtone Milk that he recommended and it did not disappoint. It was smooth, full bodied, and flavorful. Nice chocolate flavor with a hint of smokiness to it. My husband got the Drygate IPA and it was crisp and hoppy. Service: I always look for good conversation, attentiveness, kindness, and whether or not the server and or bartender was knowledgeable about what they're serving. Our bartender Andrew was all of the above. He was so welcoming, and my husband and I enjoyed the great conversation With him. He knew a lot about the selection of beers and whiskey, where it came from, and who it came from, so that was wonderful! Thank you Andrew for a great experience. We hope we can stop by again while we're still in Glasgow.
