Fantastic restaurant in the heart of the West End! The coley was excellent. My partner loved the beef too. The cauliflower gratin was creamy and nicely favored. Two course meal for L21. Great customer service too. Book ahead if you want to visit here!

Good food. I ordered the duck which was phenomenal, much better then any duck I've had in America. But the barley mash that came with it was disappointing. If the duck was bad, it would've been a 2 Star review. The restaurant itself just seemed so cramped, and I've been to plenty of small restaurants in NYC. The service was slow, and I went on a Tuesday evening. They were not busy enough to excuse the service. The waitress was very polite. The menu is so small, you almost pick something for an entree out of process of elimination.

I had wanted to pay Number 16 a visit for a long time now, and thought it would be a nice wee treat for my dads birthday. We booked well in advance to make sure we got table as it is a very small restaurant. The staff were very welcoming on arrival, and we were seated straight away. It has a nice cozy, relaxed atmosphere. There is a range of dishes on the menu to suit all tastes. It is on the slightly pricey side, however well worth paying a little extra for high quality food. We were initially given a choice of 3 breads rolls; they were freshly baked, served hot with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I opted for the Beetroot salad which was served with asparagus, puy lentils and goats cheese. This was a beautifully presented dish. So colourful, and the variety of beetroot (who knew there were so many!) was really complemented by the smooth creamy goats cheese. For a main course I had the Fillet of sea bream with capona, broad beans, white crab meat and anchovies. The fish was cooked perfectly, and the crab meat was sweet and succulent. This was a good sized portion, with two large pieces of fish staked. We were pretty full by this point, however there's always room for desert, right!? We decided to share 2 amongst the three of us. So up first is the "Reeces" peanut praline panna cotta in a chocolate cup with milk chocolate ice cream. Oh man this was fab! The chocolate cup was so thin and delicate, with subtle hints of praline in the panna cotta. The staff must have over heard us cheersing to dads birthday earlier in the night and brought the desert out with a wee candle. A nice personal touch! The other desert - Mango parfait, passion fruit cremeux, coconut sorbet and coconut praline crunch. This was refreshing, light and the praline crunch was delicious. I really enjoyed my meal at Number 16, and I will definitely be retuning in the future. Good to know they have set lunch and pre-theatre options too.

On a very snowy Friday evening, we happened to be booked in here for dinner with friends. With Byres road shutdown and the snow falling, it was certainly a very Christmas feeling getting here as our first visit. Very warm welcome in, as we got settled in. Thankfully, near a radiator to defrost gloves! Opted for Beef in tempura batter and fishcakes. Wow... Not only a work of art on the plate, these flavours were amazing! Fishcakes were not overpowering & we literally cleared the plates in 60 seconds! For mains, I went with Ox cheek, Fiona has slow cooked Pork Belly & friends had butternut squash risotto and the Duck. Everyone was simply wowed. This is a wee gem of a place I've over looked many times given it's size. The beef fell apart, as did the duck and the pork. The service was outstanding - friendly and warm, just what you want from a restaurant. We spent over 3 hours here & not once felt rushed. Completely relaxed and could have easily spent longer, had it not been for our taxi arriving 30 minutes early! In summary... YOU GOTTA EAT HERE... NOW! :-D

I love Number 16, I really, really do. My parents are visiting from Australia, and I thought this would be the perfect place to take them for lunch on their second day in Glasgow before heading to the Riverside Museum nearby. On a Sunday, they have a two course deal for £12.95 between 1pm - 2.30pm which you'll probably need to book ahead for as the restaurant is quite small. We easily booked a table the day before for four which was a relief. We had the large table at the back of the restaurant which is great for spreading out and relaxing, with lots of lovely cushions and comfy seats. The set menu has about 3 options for starters and mains, and you can expect to find seasonal, local ingredients like mackerel, ham hock and pork belly from Carluke. There's at least one vegetarian option as well. I went for the deep fried ham hock with panko, pea puree, goats cheese mousse, puy lentils, pickled onions and beetroot puree for starter, and the roast breast of chicken with tabbouleh, smoked aubergine purée, pomegranate molasses and crumbled feta for main. I've mentioned it in my previous review, but you really won't be disappointed with the food here - beautifully presented with lots of care and really well balanced flavours. The ham hock was a little like a croquette but presented sliced in half, with lots of lovely watercress on the plate. The goats cheese mousse was incredibly delicious and I'd have loved more of this! The portion size was good as well, not too large but definitely not stingy and left plenty of room for me to attack the main. A plump chicken breast with the lovely Mediterranean flavours of aubergine and feta meant this was a bit more interesting than your standard chicken dish. Service was friendly and helpful, and we never had to wait long for anything (the small space helps!). The bill came to around £60 including soft drinks and made for a lovely start to the day. I really can't rave about Number 16 enough, to me it is a must-visit destination in Glasgow whether you're a local or tourist, and if you can nab the exceptional value pre theatre then you're in for a real treat.

    Trout dish at lunchtime

We finally made it out to try this Yelp favourite for lunch last week, and I'm sure glad we did. The place, while small, is lovely; I really enjoyed the ceramics, which seemed to be custom-made for the place (salt and pepper pots with 16s on them, bread plates with different wee animals, and even a few animal tiles in the loos!) On to the good stuff: the food! For lunch on a weekday, they had a set menu with 2 items for 13.95 or 3 for 16.95. I started with a watermelon and feta salad, and my partner had a different salad that so help me I cannot remember what was in it. Mine was really nice, though missing the advertised pancetta - I asked and our waitress said it was a pancetta crumb, and we wondered if maybe it had flour in it so they left it off because I told them I'm gluten-free. No one ever said anything about it, even after I asked, which was a bit strange. It was still nice but I imagine that missing ingredient would have made a difference. For mains, I went for the trout, which came with asparagus and potatoes and a pea mint sauce, and my partner had the gnocchi, which was the only vegetarian option. The fish on its own was cooked nicely but a bit plain; this all changed when combined with the sauce, which I'll admit I was skeptical of (not a fan of peas, nor mint in savoury things) - but it was really good. My partner enjoyed the gnocchi, especially the ones that were a bit crispier (he thought they'd been baked.) For dessert, we couldn't decide so we shared two - a chocolate ganache-like dish with cream and a few cherries scattered about, and a tapioca pudding topped with tropical fruits, served warm. They were both incredible and probably the best part of the meal. Everything in each dessert was well-balanced and lovely. This is consistently one of the top rated places on Yelp in Glasgow, and they've earned it. It's a great place for a nice meal.

    Chicken dish at Number 16

Situated at the bottom of Byres road number 16 is small neighbourhood restaurant with a strong reputation for serving top quality food since 2009. It was awarded an AA rosette in 2011 and has won several other awards for their continual efforts. After a nice leisurely stroll down Byres road and we arrived at the restaurant. We were instantly surprised at how small it was, regardless of this they have made excellent use of the space and created a nice cosy atmosphere. We were taken to our seats on the higher mezzanine level and shown the set menu for the day, two courses at £14.95 and three courses at £.17.95 A good ten minutes had passed and no one had came to take our order, we finally managed to flag down the waiter who explained we couldn't order as the kitchen "wasn't ready" and we would have to wait, we found this a little bit strange and we waited another ten minutes before our order was finally taken. We both decided to go for three courses, we had a look at the wine list, it looked reasonably priced but we stuck with water as we both had to drive or study later that evening. While perusing the menu's we were given a beautiful white and brown roll, we enjoyed dipping our roll into the oil, a combination we hadn't been served for a while but enjoyed. All three of the courses were really good, for starters it was pan fried rainbow trout, The presentation of this dish was very pleasant as was the combinations of flavours. The fish was cooked and seasoned well and the beetroot flavour was intense and very enjoyable on the palate. Main was chicken, Minimalist presentation but some very skilled cooking on show. The chicken was pretty much perfect, and we found the pomme puree to be silky smooth and incredibly moreish. We finished with a lemon and coconut tart ,we really enjoyed this desert and could easily of had another, it was that fantastic. The strong fruity flavours were divine and worked perfectly with the lemon and coconut tart. A really nice finish to a good meal. Our first experience of number 16 was mainly a positive one. The standard of cooking was high and each dish had clearly been thought out well in terms of taste, texture and presentation. The thing that let the restaurant down was the service. We waited nearly twenty minutes for our order to be taken; plates took a while to be cleared; and then we had another wait for someone to ask for the bill. The restaurant was busy so we hope this was just an off night as the food was good and we did have an enjoyable evening and would still recommend anyone to try the restaurant for themselves. Overall for £18 per head for 3 courses we had an enjoyable evening. The restaurant is well deserving of its AA rosette and it's bound to be in contention for a 2nd rosette in the coming years.

The vibe in Number 16 is fairly relaxed, we visited on a Friday night and it was a pretty casual affair. The restaurant was nice enough, but nothing immediately jumped out at me decor wise. It was a perfectly pleasant space to spend a few hours although it did feel a little cramped. The restaurant is pretty small and they have added a mezzanine level which just further adds to the feeling of being squeezed in by having a really low ceiling. The staff were very welcoming and friendly throughout the meal. Although because it was a busy Friday night we did have a little bit of a wait before we could order our dessert and my latte took quite a while to arrive. This isn't a huge issue but I think it was worth mentioning because we did comment on it at the time. To start the meal we ordered some mixed olives with Herbs de Provence and parmesan shortbread. I like olives but it was more the idea of parmesan shortbread which intrigued me. The olives were nice but the made in-house shortbread was so delicious that I actually asked if they could bring us another round, 1 just wasn't enough. Which the waitress happily did without charging us for them. I ordered the Chilli Salt Squid with organic leaves, crispy onions and Vietnamese dressing as a starter. Wow this was HOT....beautiful but H.O.T. The dish was overflowing with tender juicy pieces of squid, well dresses leaves and tasty little morsels of crispy onion. This was a beautiful starter and I would definitely order it again...but I'll make sure I have a large glass of water near by when I do. Whenever duck is on a menu I always find it hard not to order it. When I saw Seven spice roast breast of Gressingham duck, poached rhubarb, shallots and heirloom tomatoes, elderflower dressing and sweet soy on the menu I knew I had to order it - even tho rhubarb is one of my food nemesis. When it arrived the plate was beautiful. The duck was perfectly pink and the fat was rendered nicely, and even though rhubarb is a food hate (along with brussels sprouts and mushrooms) I am a firm believer in trying things in nice restaurants just in case they have magically made it nicer and guess what - I didn't hate the rhubarb! I can't tell you how much this is indeed high praise. I only had a few bites of it with the duck but the soft bitterness from the 'barb really added a lovely additional dimension to the well-flavoured duck. For dessert we went for the Chocolate garden - Chocolate ganache, cocoa soil, yogurt sponge, forest fruits, raspberry foam and raspberry fluid gel. I was so excited to try this. Again when the plate arrived it was so pretty. The little squares of rich creamy ganache were smooth and lush, the cocoa soil gave the dish a little texture and bite, and the raspberry foam was amazingly light and packed a real punch of flavour. The yogurt sponge I found extremely confusing....don't get me wrong it was tasty but it tasted and looked like bread, I didn't really think it went with the dish and it didn't add anything. We split the bill but my meal came to £39.85 (excluding my wine and latte) I would say this was a fair price for the food that I received and I would happily pay it again. I would highly recommend a visit to Number 16 and will definitely visit again....extremely enjoyable night with lovely people and beautiful food.

I can't say enough great things about Number 16. My husband and I were visiting Glasgow from Chicago for 2 days and made reservations for dinner here on a Sunday night. I was very happy to learn, through their website, that on Sundays you can bring your own bottle and the corkage is free! We arrived a bit early for our reservation but were still able to be seated in the intimate, cozy dining area and start on our wine will we waited. Reservations are definitely needed because they were fully booked, but as another reviewer mentioned the atmosphere is still very relaxed and intimate, even with a full house. After savoring the warm bread with delicious oils and butter served alongside, we settled in for the main event. Here's what we had: *Fresh Tagliatelle with Wild Mushrooms, Garlic, and Sage Butter (starter): Amazing. The pasta was perfectly cooked and all the ingredients tasted so fresh and complimented each other so well. I really didn't want to share this dish with my husband! *Pan Seared Scottish Scallops with Avocado and Coriander Salsa and Gazpacho Dressing: This was my main and while the scallops were delicious and perfectly cooked, I found the salsa and avocado to bit a bit too overpowering and the taste of the scallops was lost when eaten together. *Braised Pork Belly with Stornoway Black Pudding Croquette, Celeriac Puree, White Onion Marmalade, and Spiced Apple Sauce: This was my husband's dish and it was fantastic! Very rich with the pork belly and black pudding but the accompaniments even it out nicely. *Sticky Toffee Pudding: Heaven in the form of a dessert. It's warm and melty and delicious, what more is there to say?! Overall we had a wonderful dinner at Number 16-the atmosphere, the service, the food...it was all top notch and I would definitely try and return if we are passing through Glasgow again!

    Poached ham hock starter

What a lovely little restaurant! I guess that's a good a place to start as any, Number 16 is small but manages not to feel cramped, so maybe 'cosy' is a better way to describe it. We had a table for two upstairs, and whilst we waited for another party to arrive at another table - remember, small place, so the kitchen works better if they cook in batches - we enjoyed some bread dipped in their own olive oil - infused parmesan, rosemary and garlic olive oil - aged balsamic vinegar. I'd happily have just sat there with fresh bread and that wonderful oil, and a glass of wine for the rest of the evening but we were pretty hungry so were glad when we could order! I started with the poached ham hock with pickled onions, braised split peas and goats cheese mousse. What a wonderful delight! The block of ham was delicious and quite subtle, and worked well with the braised split peas, cut through by the sharp goats cheese mousse and pickled onions it was soon polished off! The balance of quantity was a little off though, and the dish ended up dominated by the split peas - more tasty ham next time please! As was Kirsty B's crab salad with gazpacho, avocado mousse, baby watercress and quinoa. We both enjoyed our dishes so much we didn't even pause to try the others. Main courses arrived after a polite pause. Kirsty had the pork belly with smoked celeriac puree, piccalilli, sprinklings of black pudding, with a potato croquette, served with dashes of an apple and vanilla sauce. A busy but well presented dish that had her mmmmmming on the first mouthful. For me, bavette steak with sautéed purple potatoes, red cabbage (nicely sweetened with some raisins), on smear of carrot puree and a swoosh of garlic pesto and sage butter. The steak was delicious, not a cut I'd tried before (it's from the flank I think) but it was juicy and tender, with a wonderfully salted sear. The potatoes were... well potatoes, and the red cabbage complimented the steak well. The garlic pesto was a delight, adding a nice sharp bite to the dish but I'm not really sure why the carrot puree was there. It may have had a hint of cumin in it and, to my palate, it didn't really compliment anything else on the plate. I still scoffed the lot mind you! By that point, having had a couple of bread rolls whilst we waited to be able to order our food, we were both stuffed and sated, having enjoyed a 50cl pot of wine (the French rose) with the meal - I do wish more restaurants would offer this option for when a glass isn't enough, a bottle is too much (if you aren't particularly big wine drinkers...). So, we passed on dessert, despite the many tempting options! Price wise it's competitive for a good dining experience, the staff were friendly and efficient, and the restaurant has a nice laid-back feel too it which I loved. Definitely one to go back to, not quite 5 stars but pretty damn close.

Chicken with tabbouleh and aubergine purée

Ok so before I start, this is more a 4.5 star than a 4... Number 16 has been at the top of my foodie bucket list ever since I clocked their pastry chef Helen Vass on Great British Bake off: Crème de la Crème (which she went on to win with her team - high praise indeed!). So when I found out July's Secret Dining was going to be at Number 16 I knew we were in for a real treat. Located at the Partick end of Byres Road, it's quite a small restaurant with seating for perhaps 18 on the ground floor and a small mezzanine above. As a result, it feels very cosy and snug, would be lovely for a date night actually. Our table was on the right and a bit of a squeeze for those sitting against the wall which makes me think this place isn't designed for groups above 4 unfortunately. Anyhoo, expecting it to be quiet, being a Wednesday night, I was surprised to find all tables constantly taken throughout the evening (always a good sign!). We were eating from the early evening set menu, £15.95 for 2 courses or £19.95 for 3 which I think is very reasonable. The menu is forever changing too depending on what's in season so never the same meal twice. Ok so onto the food itself...I'm a real sucker for beetroot these days so opted for the goats cheese and beetroot starter. It was picture perfect, I (almost) didn't want to disturb it! But I did...and it was light, a nice size portion overall, my only slight negative being I would've liked a little more beetroot given it was the main attraction. For main, 5 out of the 6 of us had the chicken with tabbouleh and aubergine purée. Love love loved this! Lots of fresh mint and pomegranate added flavour and texture to the perfect, moist chicken breast, deliciously yummy! And so we get to pudding...it had to be the chocolate cremeux for me. It was served with the thinnest (like unbelievably thin!) sourdough toast and olive oil ice cream (which this juror's still out on (personal tastes, it was smooth and creamy just not sure it's for me)). I could've eaten a dozen quenelles of the cremeux though, it was to die for! Would I go back here? Of course! I'd like to try the a la Carte next time and see if I can bump this up to a fantastic 5 star.

Ox cheek, fish, duck and white wine with my boyfriend! :) Extremely delicious!! Give it a try

My lovely boyfriend brought me here tonight as a surprise and for a late birthday dinner! It was amazing; it's such a small, quaint place but I loved it, especially because it was cosy and the menu had a few specific choices that we could choose from (quality over quantity) We ordered 3 mains (ox cheek, duck and fish) and white wine; everything was superb! Interesting flavours; a little bit asian, a little bit western. Great balance! We had the lemon posset with basil sorbet and this was such a delight! So refreshing and for me, a new taste for my palate. Staff were also super friendly and accommodating! Overall and great experience and will definitely recommend to friends!

We visited Number 16 one very rainy lunchtime and it was an absolute delight! The place itself is very snug, although it might have had an upstairs too?! It was kitted out with lovely hand painted ceramics, decorated with the cutest little animals. The staff were very welcoming and brought us a jug of water and some fresh red pepper rolls with dipping oils when we arrived. To start with I had THE MOST DELICIOUS beetroot and goats cheese tart I have ever tasted. It was heaven and not only did it taste deliciously tangy, creamy, crumbly and fresh but it also looked like a work of art. The boy opted for a salmon fishcake with fresh pesto which was also delicious. For main I had a butternut squash with a balsamic glaze. It was great, it had a lovely mix of creamy risotto-y goodness with some firmer chunks of squash to give it nice texture. The boy opted for the coconut curry pork belly, which came with a mint and apple jelly. It was totally scrummy! For desert we had a delicious butterscotch cheesecake with salted caramel, apple jelly and apple puree. Needless to say it was just a delicious as it sounds. Sweet butterscotchy toffee with sharp apple...mmmmm! We had such a lovely afternoon here and their lunch menu was incredibly good value. I think this ought to be how every rainy afternoon is spent! I have posted some photos just to show how pretty each plate of food was.

The vibe tho is grown up, serene and subdued in the best ways, the cream walls were dotted with beautiful abstract art in shades of grey, there was a large fireplace feature, soothing just audible music, fresh red roses on the table (it was valentines!) linen table cloths. It was beautiful and even though it was jumping it felt like a calm and soothing environment. The staff were exactly what you would expect from a restaurant like the Sister - delightful. They were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the service was fast...probably faster than it normally would be due to the date, having said that I never once felt rushed or harassed - the staff were just sharp and on the ball with clearing plates. The menu at the sisters is like a love letter to Scotland, it was loaded with haggis, black pudding, fish, venison, beef cheeks, clootie dumpling and puff candy. It was like head chef Jackie O'Donnell had stepped into my childhood and brought all those foods into the 21st century. I could very easily have chosen any dish on offer from each course, it's an utterly lush menu. In the end I decided to try the haggis, neeps and tatties to start, I never took pictures of the menu so I forget the exact description of the dish. My first thought upon seeing my dish was wow! There was a puddle of glossy gravy, in the middle was a large haggis cake topped with neeps and a fritter....yes a freakin FRITTER!! I was beside myself as I am sure by now you know how I feel about fritters. The food was utterly gorgeous and without fault, the haggis was tasty and slightly spicy, the neeps were light and creamy, and the fritter was crisp and perfect. Gorgeous! For my main I finally decided on the Chicken breast with Stornoway black pudding, creamed leeks & a red wine jus with a side of Rooster tatties & market vegetables to share. Again visually it was so beautiful to look at. Taste wise it was amazing, the chicken was moist and tender, the creamed leeks still had bite and were seasoned to perfection, the big wedge of black pudding was soft and crumbly, the mash was silky and the red wine jus was lush and decedent. The side was also a triumph - the roasted potatoes were crispy golden nuggets of joy and the veg was incredibly tasty, I even liked the broccoli (I hate broccoli) but I loved however they cooked it. After all that food dessert was touch and go for a while, but there was no way I could leave without trying the Puff candy meringue with honeycomb, ice cream & hot butterscotch sauce. Now lets not kid ourselves this dish it basically a plate of sugar in various forms.....but boy what a plate of sugar it was. The puff candy meringue was light and delicate, the honeycomb was crunchy and sweet and the butterscotch sauce was thick and creamy. This dessert is as good as desserts get. It was a stunning gift from the sugar gods! All in all a pretty exceptional meal and up there with the best I have eaten in Glasgow without question. This is a must try restaurant for me and I will definitely visit again very soon.

She made excellent suggestions for our mains so we went with the venison, monkfish and lamb. Each was better than the last! Venison melts in your mouth! Monkfish was grilled perfectly and the lamb was pressed and almost like a confit!! Desert was just a awesome!! A Hidden Gem on Ashton Lane…read more Located on the fabulous and trendy Ashton Lane, this place is anything but typical. From the moment you step in, you can tell you're in for something special. The atmosphere is gorgeous -- a bright glass ceiling, lush plants all around, and a rustic stone floor that creates the perfect mix of romantic and relaxed. It feels ideal for a date night but also welcoming for families and friends. The food here is definitely on the high-end side, and while the portions are small for the price, what you're really paying for is excellence. Every bite showcases the chefs' skill, creativity, and attention to detail. The quality and flavor are absolutely superb -- the kind of dining experience you simply won't find anywhere else. We ordered the Pigeon Breast, Bramble, Chicory, Walnut , the Tenderstem Broccoli and the Organic Arran Leaf & Herb Salad with Mustard Vinaigrette, and both dishes completely blew us away. The flavor combinations were thoughtful, unique, and perfectly balanced. This is one of those special spots worth treating yourself to at least once. Whether it's a romantic evening or a celebration with friends, it's an unforgettable dining experience on one of Glasgow's most charming lanes.

As with any such…read morerestaurant, they have to make sure there's a lot to shout about so that you'll get your friends to come along and try it. Shandon Belles does not disappoint! The menus are always fantastic, and they like to keep it all seasonal so the produce is as fresh and local as possible. There is a good variety of dishes for the munching, but there is usually only one vegetarian option available as a main course so if you have a veggie amongst your number, make sure to check the menu before you drag them in. I had the pleasure of attending a Christmas Lunch with my colleagues at this fine establishment. Everything was absolutely delicious. What I particularly like is that they have veg in bowls for passing around the group, rather than just dish them out regardless of people's preferences. You can have as much or as little as possible. Oh, and all their desserts are amazing, and they have different specials every week. The cheesecake is particularly good (and I shouldn't have it because of my lovely allergies), and they make their own tablet to go with the coffee! The waiting staff are ever attentive, filling your glass with the table wine whenever they spot an empty glass. They're always smiley and up for a chat as well! It's refreshing to see staff that seem to be enjoying the company of the customers. It certainly helps to foster a homely vibe to this charming wee place. Don't be shy, give it a try! It won't stay off your radar for long. ^^

Was my friends birthday meal here & 8 of us neatly packed in around one table on a busy Friday evening. Set menu at £16 for two courses and £18 for three (from memory!) They also have specials on, which tonight was a Pork Loin with mustard mash and a rosemary and thyme jus. (Can tell Fiona went for this!) Service was as I recalled & excellent the whole night. We pretty much spent 3 hours in there & the last table out... At no time did we feel anything was an issue for the staff. I had the chilli and tortilla chips for starters & pleasantly surprised at the chips being made in house. Absolutely lifted the dish for me to another level. Cottage Pie for mains & it was roasting! Could have done with room to move the meat around underneath, as some bits were a little oily, but it just needed mixed. Absolutely delicious delicate flavours mind. My only criticism of the meal experience, was the house wine they supply. Simply put at £10/12 a bottle - frankly rotten stuff. We ended up ordering from the buttery wine list to £41 for a bottle of pinot noir, to get something you could drink without tasting the chemicals! At £10/12, you can do a lot better on the wine front - no excuse there I'm afraid. Whole meal itself was a delight & more a dining experience with the quirks of old style plates/cutlery like in the pig and the butterfly restaurants. Will be back here to eat no doubt again & so should you! You Gotta Eat Here - For Sure!! :-D

Tourists would flock and photograph it from every angle, creating albums on Facebook entitled "Me at St Andrews in the Square" to a sea of thumbs ups from friends who like it. Instead, this lovingly-restored 18th century church is inconspicuously located in among modern east end flats and virtually impossible to stumble across unless you are specifically looking for it. And what a pity, because when it's lit at night, it provides one of the most spectacular photo opportunities in the city. Those who do know this building, know it's one of the greatest classical churches in Europe with a truly sumptuous interior. Now used as a performing arts centre, St Andrews in the Square can also be hired as a spectacular setting for ceilidhs, concerts, weddings and receptions. Just go. They aren't reinventing the wheel, their dishes are just plain tasty. Our starters -- Marinated Olives (£4) & Chicken Skewers with lime & coconut yoghurt (£7) -- prepped our palates for richer courses to follow. Our side of Onion Rings (£5) was coated in a light, airy beer batter. To add to the festival of fried foods, I chose Fish & Chips (£19) as my main which had the same beer battered coating. Flakey cod paired well with the tangy tartar sauce. I only wish it was served with more traditional mushy peas instead of the one-noted crushed peas. BF also enjoyed his order; Filet (£37) was tender, flavorful, & well seasoned. For dessert, I had one of many Sticky Toffee Puddings (£7) ordered on our trip through Ireland & Scotland, as well as a Chocolate & Strawberry Eclair (£8) which I thought was the most creative dish of our meal. Modern ambiance & friendly service, though I think the staff were overwhelmed with catering to a larger party. May have to bring your patience, but at least the food is worth the wait.
