We went to Mharsanta on a food tour, for authentic Scottish food. Everything we tried was so delicious! The menu is loaded with so many amazing Scottish dishes to choose from. The Haggis, Neeps & Tatties were to die for! And the restaurant is beautiful! A "must go" if in Glasgow. And don't forget to order Sticky Toffee Pudding!

While we were in Glasgow, Scotland one of the places we dined was at Mharsanta. The restaurant had a nice charming ambiance to it. We we were welcomed kindly by the staff and seated right away. I wanted to try a drink from Scotland. The waiter recommended Tennents Lager because it is brewed in Glasgow city itself. Very cool! I thought it tasted refreshing! Also tried the Scottish soft drink called Irn-Bru. I liked this soda a lot. It has its own unique delicious taste. Wish I could find it here in the States!! I could use one right now as I write. Wifey and I decided to share our entrees and soup. I ordered the Freshly Landed Scottish Fish & Chips. She ordered the Fresh Scottish Haggis Burger. My fish & chips was good. I preferred her Haggis burger though. It was yummy! Dessert was also delicious. We got a taste of Scotland at this wonderful restaurant. It was a terrific first time experience at Mharsanta.

Very strong 3&1/2 and a functional Yelp 4...Despite being lucky enough to have had the opportunity to have made a number of visits to the great nation of Scotland, and arguably it's greatest and definitely largest city of Glasgow, I would be a fool to try to pass myself off as some sort of authority on it's cuisine, or larger culture in general for that matter. That being said, I found this contemporary Scottish gastropub, with a traditional Scottish Language name I could not begin to attempt to try to pronounce, right in the heart of one of Central Glasgows main strips to be a really solid representation of both. Considering we stumbled into this place blindly during a Sunday Morning torrential downpour after being turned away from the more widely known, historic (and Bourdain approved) Cafe Gandolfi around the corner, I was skeptical that this would be a forgettable and/or mediocre meal or worse. Happily I was beyond pleasantly surprised by the uniformly solid take on Scottish and wider UK classics, the professional and friendly service and in particular the great multi course lunch special, which offered our group a chance to pick and choose and share, and sample widely across the menu, with portions huge enough to have leftovers for our Glasgow relatives to take home and enjoy later. The Cullen & Skank I had as my first course option, is a very thick seafood laden chowder, with a more yellowish tint than any NE clam you'll find back stateside and with an aggressively smokey and fishy (in the best way) flavor owing to the dominance of the smoked haddock at it's base. The Haggis, surely the most notorious and iconic of all Scottish dishes, served here in classically traditional fashion alongside perfectly lightly whipped up mashes of potato and turnips, which provide the perfect contrast to the dense, rich and unctuous haggis, it's rich decadent blend of oats and barley with deliciously bits of various organ meats was lovely and soul satisfying, dare I say delicious and nicely presented enough to make a convert of even the mildly offal-averse. The fried Haggis cake/fritter app that the misses got was one step to far for me however, and I imagine eating the whole thing of one of them might have run the risk of taking me out of commission for the day, landing in by stomach like a lead anchor. I would especially not advise ordering that, as she did in combination with the massive, very solidly prepared fish and chips, the portion size of which I would more commonly expect maybe in Texas as opposed to Scotland. I did however very much enjoy the Haggis, mixed alongside minced beef and a rich flavorful gravy enveloped in a delectable savory pie crust in the traditional Crofters Pie. While most of the party opted not to choose the desert course option and topped out at 2 courses, one of us did choose it and selected the most traditional seeming option of a lovely Sticky Toffee Pudding, which was probably just the perfect amount of food we could have at that point in the very filling and haggis-heavy meals before verging into over-stuffed territory. Cocktails were also quite nice, if just a tad on the sweet side, which I found to be more often the case than not in this country. All in all, while maybe not a life changing experience, you could do a lot worse than seeking refuge on a rainy Scottish afternoon by popping in here and having a, relaxed satisfying, solid stick to your ribs Scottish supper in a supremely pleasant room.

Fantastic food, friendly staff, and affordable prices. Great vegetarian options. Highly recommended!

My friends and I went here for a group lunch at the end of 2023. The staff were very nice, as was the atmosphere. The food wasn't the best with the soup being extremely salty and the salad being fairly basic. Prices were ok, but I would not rush back here.

First off, I really like the ambiance. It would make a great date night. I ordered the goat cheese croquettes and the soup of the day, which was tomato and red pepper, so there are definitely vegetarian options even if you don't want the vegetarian haggis. My family ordered the steak pie and the traditional stovies, and loved both. It's a good spot for a group if some of you want traditional Scottish and some don't.

Waiter spent a great deal of time talking to us just as if we known him for a long time it was great. the level of friendliness and hospitality was very impressive. The menu is very nice and not expensive at all. TRUFFLED BRIOCHE- The dish is amazing even though I did not taste any truffle but there was a entire truffle mushroom itself there, the plate they presented it in was annoying to rest the silverware, was a bowl type of plate and the fork kept falling in lol GOLDEN BREEZE- the drink was suggested by our waiter and it was amazing cudos to him! GNOCCHI- WHAT an unfortunate plate. This was to me not a gnocchi.i love the fact that our waited noticed and made sure to ask me if everything was ok with my choice, that shows that the staff cares about customer service. The gnocchi was blend and tasteless it to me was more of a polenta and not a gnocchi it was cooked pan fried and not like a past should so it was not a great plate definitely not a gnocchi. I would definitely recommend the place, not the gnocchi but the place was pretty nice. come and have a try!

They didn't bring me a spoon with my soup so I had to flag someone down to get one. Not a huge deal but you tend to expect more from a place like this. When I finally got someone she apologized and said I don't know what's happening here, that shouldn't have happened. Really an apology alone would have sufficed without the extra commentary. I had the steak. The steak has a good taste but I ordered hollandaise sauce as my sauce and I wish I would not have poured it on my steak because it wasn't very good. The sauce just really lacked flavor. So, overall it was ok. Not the worst meal I've had but not the best either. I would go back I just wouldn't order the hollandaise sauce.

As it was only lunch I restrained myself and opted for a starter of the fish cakes with a side order of chips, which was just as well as the fish cakes were a tad on the small side. This was mildly disappointing at the time, but actually they would have been fine as a starter if you were moving on to something more substantial. I was glad I'd ordered the chips as well though. Herself as usual went for the eponymous bivalve molluscs that are the house speciality. These were quite on the large side, and disappeared before I had a chance to get a picture of the bowl so must have been good! An Americano coffee to finish was of good strength and taste, even if it was only just over half a cup; presumably they were leaving a gap for the milk that I didn't ask for and don't want. Still, I guess if they'd topped it up with water it would be weaker and that would be almost as big a sin. The restaurant is quite large and was pretty empty on this particular lunchtime. They have a mezzanine area upstairs that you can rent for private groups, which would be great if you had enough folk who were seafood lovers.

Located on Royal Exchange Square, one of my favourite places in Glasgow, I was dying to try this place out. We had attempted to go to another restaurant for an early Saturday dinner but it was "booked out" (read: one table of guests) so we ended up here. At reception the girl phoned up to see if they could fit us in which was lovely. The dining room is modern casual - a little similar to Hutchesons but without some of the awkward seating layouts they have. We went for the pre-theatre menu (£15.95 for two courses) - there's also a Yelp check-in deal which is the same offer but with a glass of wine as well, win. We actually didn't use the check-in deal as we shared a bottle of Chablis instead. We were treated to some lovely canapes to start which were very welcome, especially on a pre-theatre menu when you might not expect them! I had duck breast to start which was served really thinly sliced and was a smaller portion than I expected, but by the end of the meal I appreciated it! I then had the fillet of beef which was served with haggis and potato dauphinoise - a really well executed dish with a lovely red wine jus and a delicious dauphinoise. There was perhaps a little too much haggis with the dish but that's my own personal preference. We then decided to go for dessert and both got the creme brulee even though I really shouldn't eat quite so much dairy in one go. I stuck to just eating off the delicious top layer and donated the rest to Graeme which I'm sure he appreciated! Service was another highlight of our meal here - our main waitress was from New Zealand so her and I had a lot to chat about! She was super helpful and welcoming, and added an extra bit of sparkle to the meal. Overall service was really good without being stuffy or pretentious.

The menus are always fantastic, and they like to keep it all seasonal so the produce is as fresh and local as possible. There is a good variety of dishes for the munching, but there is usually only one vegetarian option available as a main course so if you have a veggie amongst your number, make sure to check the menu before you drag them in. I had the pleasure of attending a Christmas Lunch with my colleagues at this fine establishment. Everything was absolutely delicious. What I particularly like is that they have veg in bowls for passing around the group, rather than just dish them out regardless of people's preferences. You can have as much or as little as possible. Oh, and all their desserts are amazing, and they have different specials every week. The cheesecake is particularly good (and I shouldn't have it because of my lovely allergies), and they make their own tablet to go with the coffee! The waiting staff are ever attentive, filling your glass with the table wine whenever they spot an empty glass. They're always smiley and up for a chat as well! It's refreshing to see staff that seem to be enjoying the company of the customers. It certainly helps to foster a homely vibe to this charming wee place. Don't be shy, give it a try! They also have specials on, which tonight was a Pork Loin with mustard mash and a rosemary and thyme jus. (Can tell Fiona went for this!) Service was as I recalled & excellent the whole night. We pretty much spent 3 hours in there & the last table out... At no time did we feel anything was an issue for the staff. I had the chilli and tortilla chips for starters & pleasantly surprised at the chips being made in house. Absolutely lifted the dish for me to another level. Cottage Pie for mains & it was roasting! Could have done with room to move the meat around underneath, as some bits were a little oily, but it just needed mixed. Absolutely delicious delicate flavours mind. My only criticism of the meal experience, was the house wine they supply. Simply put at £10/12 a bottle - frankly rotten stuff. We ended up ordering from the buttery wine list to £41 for a bottle of pinot noir, to get something you could drink without tasting the chemicals! At £10/12, you can do a lot better on the wine front - no excuse there I'm afraid. Whole meal itself was a delight & more a dining experience with the quirks of old style plates/cutlery like in the pig and the butterfly restaurants. Will be back here to eat no doubt again & so should you! You Gotta Eat Here - For Sure!! :-D
