I've been to West numerous times but for some reason haven't been in over a year. I think it's probably the location - I love this place but it's big downfall is where it is. I can't see how you can get here without either driving (and who wants to drive to a brewery?) or with a lot of walking. The downside of West out of the way, we visited on Sunday in the afternoon. My worries that it might be cold were dispersed as soon as we walked in and were hit with a wall of toasty warm heat - you definitely couldn't say it was cold here, they had the heating up really high and it was lovely and cosy. We grabbed some beers - I had the West 4 which I'd never had before. It was perfect, just my kind of beer. In case you haven't tried it, here is how it's described on West's website: "A premium session lager. With all the balanced flavours of a traditional crisp, clean German lager, WEST 4 is light in colour and body. It strikes the perfect balance between malty sweet and bitter hop flavours to deliver an easy drinking lager with a refreshing zesty finish." (Just because I used to be in a beer appreciation club doesn't mean I actually learnt anything). We sat at the bar for a while and then nabbed a table. It was moderately busy but not heaving and had a really nice chilled out vibe for a Sunday afternoon. During the time we were there, a couple of singers got up and sung a tune as promotion for Opera Wintery which West have coming up. It was so lovely and made me really want to go along to the event as well. We tried a pretzel and some chips as an afternoon snack. The pretzel was too salty and the chips weren't perfect but by this stage I was chilled and content so nothing could ruin my mood. Staff are friendly and chatty and there are huge amounts of dogs around which elevates this to a 5 star for me. I can't wait to head back again soon for more of that deliicous West 4.

West is the best place I have ever been! The food is great the beer is phenomenal!! I have eaten in west a number of times, having tasted a range of their food from the fish and chips to the curry wurst! Another great option is their mussels. Now it's true you can drink as much as you can and you won't get a sore head that's because it has less chemicals. The best part is you can take your dog in, have a few drinks or even eat a meal with your dog they even bring them water in a proper dog bowl!! Summers day? Bring a rug their huge beer garden has enough room to fit everyone in!

Interior décor gives it a Germanic feel.

I worked in Glasgow for a year and a half and never visited West, it's about a 25-30 minute walk from Queens Street Stations so not somewhere you can drop into in passing but I wish I had made the effort before. So yesterday was my first visit. The building itself looks stunning (modelled on the Doge's palace in Venice) and there is a beer garden in the front looking towards Glasgow Green. We had reserved a table for 17:15 as it apparently get busy although it turned out not necessary (my dining companions commented how surprised they were on how quiet it was). The interior is quite large and decorated with dark wood and looks sort of like you would imagine a German drinking hall in a hunting lodge, I've not actually been in a real one so it may not be authentic but it's comfortable and spacious. With their own brewery on the premises you expect the beer to be top quality, and it was, although I was a little disappointed they only had their core house beers available as I was hoping for the opportunity to try one of their less common beers, but I had a "Munich Red" which was lovely. Their menu has a variety of German dishes (e.g. Bratwursts & Schnitzels) as well as more "regular" dishes like Fish and Chips and burger. I selected the "Nürnberger Bratwürstl" which was 6 small German sausages with authentic German sauerkraut, mash and beef jus. Although this sounds like your basic sausage and mash with gravy it is quite different, the sausages were very "herbal" and slightly spicy, the mash was light and fluffy and the beef jus was tasty and lighter than a regular gravy. This was my first taste of sauerkraut, and I was a bit dubious as I'm not a fan of cabbage normally but sauerkraut doesn't really taste of cabbage. I had been told the food servings were especially large and on viewing my companions burger and fries and fish and chips I can understand why, they were very generous large portions but my "Nürnberger Bratwürstl" was not excessive (6 sausages sounds a lot but they are small sausages) and for my appetite just the right amount to satisfy without feeling stuffed. The service was friendly and efficient, as I said it was not very busy so I cannot comment on previous reviews that had issues. If I'm in the area again I'd happily drop by for a drink and would certainly make the effort to return for something to eat. P.S. It is also dog friendly, I saw a number of dogs inside which the staff happily supplied water bowl for.

This brewery is on a great location and produces, by far, the best beers in the West of Scotland (fans of the beer than begins with a big T should stop reading now!). All the beers are brewed by the germanic purity laws meaning that no nasty chemicals (see the ingredients on a can of Stella) are anywhere near the brewing process. One of the huge bonuses about the West Brewery is the massive beer garden they have, finished with picnic tables and sun umbrellas. The bar also offers live Jazz between 2-5pm on a Sunday and is also one of the hosts for our city's Magners Comedy Festival. But leave the fizzy apple juice to our English neighbours and enjoy a nice pint of West instead. The St. Mungo's lager is exceptional and better than most of the European 'Premium' lagers you find in most pubs. But the Hefeweizen is by far my favourite - tasty and strong! One of the main problems West have is that it hasn't rolled out much in the city. There are a few select bars you can buy West products in but hopefully more get on board in the near future! Come down here for one of the tours and spend the day and night sampling some hearty food and some tasty beers.

Wiener Schnitzel heaven ;) Really, I do love a Wiener Schnitzel - brings back memories of a couple of great holidays in Austria! West is just a great space with a great atmosphere, and although I don't often find myself in this part of town (just a stone's throw from the People's Palace), I always think I need to come here more often! Husband loves the beer, i love the schnitzel, and the baby loves the space. Every time I have been I have ordered the Wiener Schnitzel, and love it. Husband had the Pan Seared Trout Fillet today - he enjoyed it, but felt the portion size was too small. The fish was good, but he felt it needed more accompaniment than just potatoes and the lemon butter. Desserts were delicious too! This is a perfect place to come with friends, family, your dog (4 doggies in with diners today, not everybody's cup of tea, but I like the four legged friends)...

That's not rogue. He is here though. I love WEST.

I used to LOVE West Brewery, but I am afraid I just really like it now. Reason for the drop in a star. It just seems to have lost a bit of "something". Its hard for me to pinpoint exactly, but to try and give some sort of indication: Staff less friendly than they were in the past. The burgers are not good. (Although some other dishes are still lovely) Beginning to feel much more like an old fashioned restaurant, than a cool pub. Lacks atmosphere. Awful system for queuing for drinks when its busy. Don't get me wrong, you should still visit and it is a great place, particularly in the summer months, but for me personally its lost a bit of its shine.

If you like beer, then it's well worth heading east to West. This big bar and brewery has an impressive beer menu, to suit all tastes and preferences and you can even order a third of a pint if you just fancy a wee taste. Residing in the impressive Templeton building overlooking Glasgow Green, West is a great place to come to relax in a big old building, surrounded by greenery and with a beer garden outside for summer days. There's a lovely big stretch of grass outside West, fenced off and filled with families, friends and couples, while dogs and children run around and play in sunshine and safety. It's great to have somewhere like this in the east end and it's a place loved by locals, as well as those who travel from across the city for a pint of West's best and a bite to eat from their unusual German menu. West also hosts lots of live music and comedy events and visitors can even book tours and functions at this lovely big building, steeped in hops and history.

Ok so I should have probably reviewed WEST before now as it is less than 10 mins from where I live. On the whole I love the place, they serve great in house brewed German style beers and they taste great. Normally a section of 4 on this visit saw st mungos, Munich red, heffweizen and west pa. with the ability of getting up to a 2 pint stein as well. The food is impeccable. Although a bit too expensive to be bar food but great as a proper meal. They do offer a garden menu but £8 for a bar burger seems a little high to me. Their true highlight for me is the beer garden. Situated right on Glasgow green it is possibly the best place in the city to enjoy a pint on one of those rare Scottish summer days. Next up it is the brewery you can see over the coppers while you drink. As a beer geek this means a lot too me. Now the downsides. The first isn't we'd t's fault. Although it is the best beer garden in the city the secret is out and boy does it get mental on a nice afternoon. Also I don't enjoy my beer out of a plastic glass when I sit outside. Next up is the lack of choice in their bottled beers. They have a huge selection of wine and a good selection of spirits but only 6 beers and they aren't anything special. The staff aren't always good at dealing with the busy times and can be rude and ignore people that have been waiting for long periods of time. Other than that I can't really fault the place. Keep up the good work and if possible improve on these few things.

Chicken Wings (legs!) and potato cakes

I've been wanting to go here for months & never seem to time it right! FINALLY, we make it to the infamous West Brewery. Was more PUB, than restaurant on first impressions, with a mix of visitor centre thrown in behind the restaurant part for good measure. Really welcoming staff & our waitress was knowledgable on the beers and food. Everything she recommended - spot on. Wild West beer was simply the best I've ever tasted and blew St.Mungos out of the water (imho!) Fi went for chicken wings, that are now chicken legs (random!) & I opted for potato pancakes. For main, I had bun free burger and Fi, Venison casserole. Starters - I loved the salad and the pancakes were more like thicker potato scones, but the combination of the mustard seeds in the dressing and apple sauce, was great. Fi's rather large chicken legs were slightly disappointing. Didn't really carry any flavour through into the meat itself & for her, the mustard seeds in the salad was too overpowering. Burger was a thin patty, but large enough & cooked medium - spot on, no issues. Lovely flavour again throughout, but I would have liked chunky homemade chips, rather than skinny freezer fries - let the overall dish down. Again, Fi didn't fair too well with Venison. Potato sides were covered in mustard seeds and the venison itself, tender - but lacked flavour. So far, I'd won 2 out of 2! Opted for a Pear Tarte Tatin for dessert and enjoyed the 10 minute wait from all the food and beer! WOW... this was by far the most outstanding dish of the night & frankly the best tarte tatin I've had - simply gorgeous. Apologies on the picture... we got stuck in before remembering to take a pic! All in all - really enjoyed tasting the beers and I have to try other dishes on the menu, but I will be back & can only imagine this place is jumping in the summer! You Gotta Eat Here - FOR SURE!! :-D

Had a meal in here with a mate and it was beautiful! Now that the bull is out the way I can safely say we were only in for the booze and drank the white beer by the stein and got trashed. It was flipping fantastic then we ran up £50 bill on the whiskey. Bet that didn't even dent the bottle but I had a great night. Btw did I leave my leather gloves? A sod it you keep them

Ahhh summertime in Glasgow... the sun finally peaks out from the normally overcast sky. With just a mere 18 degrees, Glaswegians strip off in hordes to frolic and bask in the sunshine. If you're in the know, you'll find yourself trekking to West Brewery to enjoy their beer garden while sipping on fabulous microbrews and nibbling tasty German style cuisine. West is a great microbrewery and restaurant located on the edge of Glasgow Green, next to the People's Palace/Winter Gardens in the old Templeton Carpet Factory. The façade is quite reminiscent of Doge's Palace in Venice. It's quite a sight to behold as you walk along the Green. It's a bit of a walk if you're sans a car, but it's an enjoyable walk when the weather is absolutely gorgeous. I'll normally convince friends and Lumberjack to go to West so we can savour every bit of Glasgow sunshine. Having worked in the beer industry for nearly 3 years, I'm pretty familiar with the whole brewing process and varieties of beer... beer is made of water, malt, hops and yeast. See I did pay attention in beer school, I swear! West takes pride in being the first UK brewery utilizing Reinheitsgebot (aka German Purity Law). So their brews contain no artificial additives, colouring or preservatives = quality. My favourite West brew has to be the hefeweizen. Plus I love pronouncing the name... I know I'm such a dork. I take full advantage of the beer garden out front when the weather is beautiful (when there are tables!). There are picnic tables scattered in the front; however, you'll find people spill out onto the grass to enjoy their drinks in the sun. You'll find some patrons bringing their dogs... and their unsightly sunburns! Be sure to arrive early though, because the beer garden normally gets packed. However, the interior is just as accommodating with its vast space that evokes flashbacks of being in Munich beer halls. As for the food, the menu seems to have changed. Mussels and black pudding were nowhere to be found, which made me a sad panda because they were so good! So I opted for the chicken burger, which ended up being a chicken sandwich since they were out of the chicken mince. When sitting in the beer garden, take note of your table number, go in and order your food. West serves up pretty tasty food with a moderate price tag and friendly helpful service. The sweet and lowdown: awesome beer garden, vast beer hall, tasty food and microbrews, and live jazz on Sunday afternoons from 2-5p... you'll be sure to find me perched at a picnic table again this summer. Fo sho!

Pint of St Mungo and half of the Munich Red

Whilst doing my whistle stop tour of the city I used to call home I developed a thirst and thought it only right to pop into West for a pint (or pint and a half to be correct). There's no denying that the brewery and bar are housed in a spectacular building, but the lack of seats inside (as far as I could see anyway) was what stopped this being a 5 star review. Whilst I have made a small complaint about the seating the lovely maitre d' did find me a little table that had been reserved for food, but happened to have cancelled. The bar was packed due to both a wedding reception and Pride being on in Glasgow Green, adding to the buzzing atmosphere inside. Although I didn't have any food, the small emanating from the kitchen did serve to make me rather hungry indeed. To the beer. I opted for a pint of the St Mungo and a half of the Munich Red (owing to the £5 minimum on card transactions), both were as expected, delicious. Safe to say, next time I'm back home I'll be back to West for their Brewery tour!

Butterscotch sticky toffee pudding.

Every so often myself a group of friends convene here for some lunch. Whilst the boys usually grab a pint, I don't as I'm not a beer drinker. I've heard the IPA and the St Mungo's are a treat. I often opt for a Malbec however find the size of the 'large' glasses to be on the small side compared to other places. What I can say though is that the food is amazing. I am not a fish lover but always opt for the beer battered haddock and chips. The batter and fish inside is top quality and the chips are hand cut potatoes which I love. The French fries are also very tasty if that's more your thing. The on the side you get peas and tartar sauce and I always forget the peas are minted. Which isn't to my taste but I've never asked for anything other that what's on the menu, usually due to my lack of memory. Today I had a dessert for the first time and it was amazing. The sticky toffee pudding is very sizeable and comes with a nice dollop of ice cream with chocolate shavings and a healthy portion of butterscotch sauce surrounds it all. Definitely my kind of dessert. I was left completely full. I took along with me my 3 year old son as its very child friendly and there are always lots of pretty wee dogs for you to enjoy ogling at if that's your kind of thing!

This was a bit too intense for me, but my wife loved them. The seitan texture was definitely excellent though. 3.5/5 -The Beyond Meat burger was honestly one of the better Beyond burgers I've had in some time. This burger comes with roasted yellow peppers, vegan cheese, and some pickles. Really tasty, but overpriced (almost £14 for just a burger??). 4/5 -The avo bowl + tindle was quite nice. You get a bed a romaine mostly, with avocado, tomatoes, smoked almonds, and a honey mustard dressing, plus a generous portion of the tindle that I added on. The salad was a bit overdressed, so I'd order the dressing on the side next time. But overall, this was very nice and a generous portion. 4/5 All in all, great service, beers, and vegan food options. I'd definitely eat at Brewdog again.

Would really love to join the classes they provide!! :) My only comment is that half the time, we couldn't hear the tour guide speaking because it was too noisy at some point outside the brewery or inside the factory area. Maybe they should consider having headphones for visitors, so that we can hear the tour guide as he's speaking to microphones? That's a very common piece of equipment for tours! I opted for the taster plank - 1 third of a pint of three different ales, served in a plank with the beer names written on. That in itself is a great touch, a few places don't identify which beer is which. I had a Casear Augustus from Williams Brothers, a Fake Lager from Brewdog and a Witless IV from Red Willow Brewery - as you can see, there's a great range to choose from and the staff were really helpful and knowledgeable about them all. While I was looking around and supping my drinks (the Witless was the pick of the bunch, fact fans!) I noticed the menu. I knew that The Raven were offering food, but wasn't too sure what. Looking at the menu, it looked pretty nifty so I figured I'd just eat here, and I was glad I did! The food is BBQ based - low and slow smoked pork, burgers, ribs, that sort of thing. There's been an explosion of this kind of food in Glasgow recently, I perhaps lay the blame at the feet of Adam Richman and Man vs. Food (my dream job too, it has to be said) but I'm not complaining! I opted for a pulled pork burrito with a side of spicy cheesy fries, and at £9 for the two, it was a steal. They arrived quickly, the fries in a basket and the burrito served on a platter. I was given cutlery before the food arrived, and what looked like a carrying case full of sauces, salt, pepper, kitchen roll and a great sight, a wet wipe! A great thing to have when eating what is esssentially finger food! There wasn't a long wait at all for the food; The burrito was lovely, really filled to the brim and fresh - but the spicy cheesy fries were stunning. Covered in jalapenos, cheese and a smoky, spicy BBQ sauce, they were quickly devoured. I could honestly have had a second helping of those on their own. A great first impression here, not just for the great food, but for the really helpful and friendly staff, and the attention to detail that the whole place shows. It's somewhere that I can see me returning to time and time again.

I told garret he can't wear the same T-shirt for 80% of the week but that's a slice of beef that just won't cut. Anyways I don't want to be biased but I will for my family snake. Garrett will brew the following beers ~ ale ~ lager ~ IPA (grams favorite) ~ NW IPA (grams also favorite) ~ New England IPA (terrible but way better than any beer this Scottish pub can offer up) Basically Garrett had good beer and sends me a six back every week which is why I love him more than my other grand children. One of my other grandchildren Stan is addicted to crack - not the drug, but he keeps saying "iz booty eatin season grandma". The Oregon IPA here just flat out taste like a home brew. And, the beer was flat. I'm not sure where they got the hops, but it was not Yakima. The red ale was not great either. OHHHHH THEY STOP SERVING nachos after 9pm. What a sad thing to do. DO YOU REALLY THINK IM DRUNK ENOUGH BEFORE 9 to order nachos?!! The answer is NOT TODAY. OK WELL I'm back in United States now. I'm drinking a breakside wanderlust beer. It's my favorite IPA way better than Garrett's NFB IPA. BYE SCOTLAND.

I've been past this place at least 1,000 times and yet I'd never been in. I'd heard good things,…read moreI'd read good things and yet I was too scared. I don't love this area of Glasgow - the roads are so confusing, the area is quite industrial and it's not really somewhere you'd head for a pint. Or, so I thought. Once in the doors of the Laurieston, it was like I had an epiphany. It was just like my Nanna's house (although my Nanna's was a bit classier, no offence). It was warm, comforting, welcoming and had some seriously retro decor. As others have mentioned, there's a tasty selection of beers from Fyne Ales but on this visit I opted for cider. We took a seat in the lounge area as the bar was pretty heaving for 1pm on a Saturday (those damn subcrawlers!) and enjoyed the atmosphere and hospitality of by far the friendliest bar staff I've encountered in a long time. Over they came to take our photo, find out our story and give us tips and advice on completing the subcrawl. They even have maps for you! That is SO cool and was very handy later on when I'm sure some people didn't know where they were (um, like me). There's a JUKEBOX as well - a proper old school one where some of the cards are handwritten. It tells you that you have to pay, but just push the buttons and you'll discover that you don't. I put on some great tunes while we were there but I'm not sure anyone else appreciated them. Handy tip: the ladies toilet is only accessible from the lounge.

A pub that until Saturday I had written off by the outside appearance. The yelp Subcrawl took me…read morehere for the first time and I was was very pleasantly surprised. Yes from the outside you would not give it a second glance. It all looks a bit run down and perhaps even a bit dodgy. To be honest the inside ain't much of an improvement on the outside. It is an old bar that looks like it has not been done up in years. Why four a stars then? Well, what it does not have in terms of polished finishes and decor is made up for by the friendly atmosphere and great array of beers on offer. The staff could not have been more welcoming. They supplied Subcrawl maps and made a point of coming out to chat with us. The even took our photo as they take records of all the "subcrawlers" who pass through their bar. I must admit, I stuck to a boring bottle of becks on the drinks front as I was being very careful what alcohol I took on at this early stage. I would like to go back though and try a few of the far more interesting beers they had on offer. 4 stars for a traditional and slightly shabby, but friendly boozers.
