This place is much larger inside than it looks on the outside, and I like that you can actually see into the brewery behind. It's a good pub lunch sort of stop, and there's not much else in the area so worth stopping off after you've visited the Cathedral or Necropolis. read more

I came here the day I had to leave Glasgow. I wanted something good but didn't want to go too far. I decided to try out Drygate. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they brew their own gluten free beer so of course I had to give it a try. I started with soup and gluten free bread. The soup was very good. I then had a burger on a gluten free bun. It was a very tasty burger. I guess it usually spicy but I asked for it not to be spicy. One thing that bugged me was that they kept the mayo and ketchup in cute little jars and they refused them. You are supposed to dish some out but I bet people dipped their fries right in there. That was the only negative. I would like to go back and do the tour, it's a tour you have to have reservations for so I couldn't just go right then. read more

This area is very dear to me and the smell of Tennents just reminds me of my Great Gran. Errr, no not in that way, she was teetotal and smelled of flowers, she just happened to live in the high rise flats opposite. When I heard they were opening a bar here I was very curious. My awesome co-Yelper in mime, Angela B, and I decided to grace our presence there to try their wares. I was impressed with their menu, which has changed a few times now and we ate within The Vintage restaurant. I've yet to try the upstairs menu in the more Bavarian style layout. I like the Vintage, I wouldn't call it exactly vintage and you can see into the brewing area for their new range of Drygate beers. Now I'm not a brewer, which you've probably guessed and I'm neither a beer drinker but I do like a cheeky fruit beer. When I heard there was one called Outaspace Apple Ale I just had to have a wee snifter. Now the best bit was you have four different sizes to choose from, a pint, schooner, half or a third. I opted for the third, which was perfect size for me. Outaspace was OK but I couldn't go a lot of it. Drygate also has an upstairs as I previously mentioned which also has a beer garden and a venue space. The beer garden was cracking last year especially when we had a hot summer. It did tend to get very busy though. It's only a hop, skip and jump to get there. You can walk from town, catch a bus or the mode I always choose is the train to the High Street. It's then only an approx 7 minutes walk. There's also more events, gigs, fairs and markets popping up all the time, making it a great new venue space. I would advise if you intend on going on a Friday or Saturday night to The Vintage restaurant BOOK!! I was very lucky the last time as I went in fairly early to get a seat but we had to move straight after as all the tables were booked. If you haven't been definitely go, oh and hear they also do a good brunch. Next time Drygate, next time! read more

Just arrived inScotland today. After a long trip wanted to try something local as opposed to a chain for supper. The soup was outstanding it was sweet potato coconut and chili. It was reminiscent of Thai food without losing its own identity. Coming from the United States, and the mustard here was spicy in a good way. The chicken sandwich was super good. As it was suddenly extremely sunny this week, we headed to Drygate for a pint and lunch and were happy to find ourselves a table outside. As we're not avid beer drinkers, we got the Disco Forklift Truck (all time fav) and a cider. For starters, we shared the incredible haggis croquettes which are a must if you go here. After this, we had the Drygate burger and the fish and chips which were both very good too. I would definitely recommend coming to Drygate (even when it's not sunny, the bar inside is cool too) as they have yummy food and drinks, they're affordable and friendly too. read more

A cracking brewery with multi-functional event space in Glasgow. I was here for the recent #cheesetoastiefest ran by Yelp Glasgow and so during the 14 hour day I was there helping out, I had a lot of time to buy some nice beer! I really liked their Chimra IPA which was the only beer on draught that they produced themselves on the premises - which made me want to try it in the first place! A side from that I tried a few bottles from their rather extensive fridge selection, a white IPA 'Cool Ridge' being the best of the bunch from there. Lots of seating space and a nice atmosphere to enjoy a few drinks. You can get food also and it's suppose to be really nice - didn't try any though. read more

I could've been a really petty, bitter person & knocked a star off simply due to the fact this place WASN'T HERE WHEN I LIVED ACROSS THE ROAD!! Goddamn! So gutted but I guess I have saved myself a lot in ££ and damaged liver cells, so swings & roundabouts... I love this place. One of my new favourite pubs. I like the vastness of the place ~ they have 2 areas (upstairs & downstairs) for drinking/eating and also in the warmer months an outside area too. I've only been in the downstairs area and both times we've actually had seats in the Vintage restaurant part which is really nice. On my first visit back when this place opened we sat right beside a window, sun streaming in and it was divine. My second visit a few weeks ago we were seated opposite their wood burning fire and the smell was great! Mmm..fire. Why do I love this place so much? First reason: The beer. The choice is really good and their own brews are REALLY good; I like all of them but if I had to pick a favourite I'd probably go for the Gladeye IPA. Also worth a mention is their Outaspace Apple Ale which keeps even non-beer drinkers happy. On my last visit they had a special Christmas brew of this and it was very yummy if maybe a tad on the sweet side. Not one to sit & drink all night but I had a half pint as a 'side' to other beers I was trying & it was most agreeable. They also offer a stupid amount of bottled beers - the website states 200! Woah. Really?! As well as beer they also serve the usual other alcoholic beverages & they actually have some pretty cool spirits ~ Eliza F had a white chocolate liqueur last visit & it was most scumptious. Second reason: Drygate offers you 4 options when buying a beer ~ Pint, Schooner, Half or Third. I have to admit it's the first time I have ever seen/heard of a Schooner even being offered as a choice in a Scottish pub. The first time I heard the word was when an Australian friend of mine always used to go on about a 'schooner (or pot) of beer' which always made me laugh as I thought it was a cool name. Having these other options when having a drink means you can try a few beers at once without feeling like a pure jakey. Both times I have visited I have gone up & bought 2 different beers at once in either a half or third size so as to try more. This is great for folk like myself who like variety & to try new things without the fear of 'Ooft. I bought a pint of this & it's pretty stinking...' which I have done on more than one occasion. Third reason: The prices. I find for a pub that is pretty stylish & so near to town the prices are really reasonable. The Gladeye IPA is £4.10 a pint, the Bearface lager £3.90 and most guest beers are around the £3.50 a pint mark. Pretty good for the quality of the beer. Most schooners are about £2.60. Fourth Reason: The atmosphere & surroundings. Downstairs there is a huge glass viewing window that looks into the brewery. This is great for watching the brewers & staff going about their brewing business and it really makes this bar stand out. I also like the artwork featured in & around the place. Another bonus is this place is near enough to town to not be completely out the way/hard to get to (High Street train station is a 5 minute walk), yet still a wee bit off the beaten track ~ which makes the average drinker in here someone who has specifically intended on coming here, and therefore (I feel) the bam factor is pretty low, I'd say a 1 on the Bam Scale. As well as those 4 main reasons I dig Drygate I must add that the staff are always lovely & helpful (if you wanna try any beers they let you), the food is pretty damn fine (if maybe a tad pricey for what you get...) and they have a wee beer shop inside as well! Be warned though as this can make for some silly over-spending on countless bottles of beer if you visit here AFTER you have been sat drinking the booze all day...oops. They also put on craft fairs & comedy here and I'm sure soon (if they don't already?) they will put on bands/music too as they certainly have enough space to. If you have or are a designated driver they have their own car park here which is a nice idea considering the surrounding area isn't always brilliant for parking. If you haven't been and you like the booze they call beer then please, GO TO DRYGATE, GO NOW! BEEEEEEEEEEEERRR! read more

As I type this, I'm sitting in Drygate, for the third time in five days, because I'm in love with the place. Even though it only opened its doors this week, it's absolutely packed on this Sunday afternoon and there's a real buzz about the place. It fills its punters with hops and hope, and it seems I'm not the only one keen to call it my local. I was allowed in for a look around before it opened and I felt the same way Willy Wonka's golden ticket-holders must have done, as I wandered around the factory, in awe and excitement, admiring the shiny machines and learning about the place that has been kept under wraps for so long. So much more than just a pub, it's a restaurant, brewery, shop and general hub of creativity and possibility. I get the impression that the sky's the limit for this place and they're open to everything, from art exhibitions and events, to allowing punters to brew their own beer and anything else they think possible. They pride themselves on open doors and open minds. Like Glasgow itself, it's industrial and inviting, with metal fixtures and bare brick walls, alongside colourful characters and a warm welcome. The staff seem like a real family and they're as animated as the art all around. It's an inspiring environment and an overdue addition to the east end. The words 'brewed fearlessly' are emblazoned on the glasses and brewery walls, and it turns out that beer without fear equals a pretty good pint. My preferred pint is an Outaspace Apple Ale, which is crisp, clean, hoppy and refreshing, without any hint of the sickly sweetness of cider. The booze they boast is breathtaking, with a massive menu of bottles, kegs and casks, as well as a shop from which you can buy bottles to take home with you and it's a much classier carry out than off sales offerings. This huge, homely haven is my new favourite place and I'm glad they've opened their doors and minds to the people of Glasgow, who will welcome them warmly and open their hearts (and wallets) to the city's most exciting and inspirational establishment in years. read more

Popped in seeing as so many Yelpers - ALL OF THEM??? - had visited and I'd heard that it would be my kinda place. I may have picked a bad/good day to visit as the sunshine had ensured that it was absolutely packed solid - there were people counting the punters outside on the beer garden for overcrowding! The good part was how well the staff coped. Every single person I spoke to was cheery, happy, and on the ball with their service. Helpful advice on the beers, quick service, attention to detail - just what you want. The space itself is stunning - I sat inside as I was trying to wrap and write a gift for someone - and it was nice and airy and also importantly, cool. It was a damn hot day out there! I noticed they marked which beers were vegan on the wall, which is a superb touch for our vegan friends, if they have the energy to climb the stairs (kidding! Don't eat me!) A veritable cornucopia of ale, lager, stout and everything in between is available on draft, and there's a fair few bottles fridged up too. I didn't have any food, but the menu looked great, I must try the mac and pork burger at some point. I drank the Gladeye IPA while I was there, and it was very nice, smooth and went down well. Next time, I will experiment with other things as well. It's very much a place to go with friends, and big groups. It's a chill out and hang out place above everything, I think. As a resident of Dennistoun this place is fast becoming my second home, apparently over 300 different craft beers to choose from across the world. Drygate has 3 main areas, the downstairs resturant, the upstairs beer and burger hall with a screen for watching the World Cup and the rooftop terrace. So far I've only eaten off the burger menu. The burgers are delicious, slightly pink in the middle of the lamb. The chips are lovely however it's an incredible stingy portion as they are served in a ceramic ramekin that I'd normally associate with having a dollop of ketchup in. Between the 4 of us we all had a different burger, I had the lamb burger, my parter had the beef burger with rarebit, my friends had the mac n cheese burger n the other the mac n cheese burger with pulled pork. Everyone delighted in the quality of the food. I think a ten pound odds for a burger n tiny portion of fries is probably a couple of pounds too much. The cost and portion size if the fries are what is stopping me giving it 5 stars. read more

I was quite excited to see this new adventurous 'craft' brewery I left my hotel on Elmbank St immediately and walked all the way down preferring that to navigating public transport in an unfamiliar city and saving my pocket money for more beer. I wasn't disappointed. The location may be a bit far from the main drinking hub in Glasgow but you couldn't really beat the surrounds, A new build right next door to and overlooking Caledonian complex and right next door to the famous necropolis. The brewery may of a decent size in itself but added with the restaurant and bar the building is satisfyingly vast. I didn't end up eating here on this occasion but the food coming from the restaurant looked and smelled amazing. There is a bottle shop located within as well so if you enjoy their beer or are looking for something to take away you are fully catered for. Outside on the second floor is an extremely large decking area which also provides a roof for the more intimate outdoor seatign below. From here you can drink your beer shilt looking down at the Caledonian Brewery in the distance and enjoy the evening air while you enjoy your beer. They don't yet have a big line of brews but what they do have is solid. Sadly they seem focussed solely on keg and bottled beer, (I could be wrong about this though) which is a tad disappointing as you can get such a large variety and style of beer from cask that it should not be overlooked by any brewery claiming to be forward thinking and experimental. They do have cask lines on the bar though which is to be admired at the very least. I look forward to some of their beers making it down this way so I try try a few more. read more

I have very high hopes for Drygate. I visited in the week that it opened and was more than pleasantly surprised. It's location is a bit out of the way, so clearly a 'destination place', there's isn't much around it to walk to, but it's only 10 minutes walk from Merchant City, so not overly problematic. Downstairs at ground level is the restaurant. It was unsurprisingly very busy and smiling waitresses greet you as you wander in. On this occasion I didn't try the food, but I've heard some good things so I will be back to sample the menu, which hopefully lives up to it's pricetag. I headed straight for the upstairs bar. The deck outside the top bar feels like an unfinished treehouse - this is by no means a grand staircase, hopefully not a permanent feature because it gives the place a bit of an unfinished and shabby feel to it. But inside it feels spacious and vibrant and I love the murals painted on the walls. With a strong selection of beers and ales, I was quite happy to sample a few tasters before selecting the Gladeye IPA. As well as their own brews there's also a selection of guest beers, so you're always likely to find what you like - from a fizzy lager to a dark stout - and an apple ale thrown in for good measure. But talking of measures...the beer measures were inconsistent depending on who served you, so hopefully this was just a teething problem and something they've now resolved - I'll update after my next visit. On the whole a good first visit, but still has a few things to iron out, enough that I can't give them 5/5*. Give it a try, it's worth the detour from town, I'll defo be back. read more

What a wonderful experience! Drygate Brewery is very close to Glasgow Cathedral and the Necropolis, so on a recent trip my husband and I wandered over for lunch. First we stopped in the bottle shop. We were amazed by the range! Drygate was selling beers from local breweries close to our California home and beers from Maui, Hawaii, that we can't find in California! We knew we were dealing with serious beer lovers. The fellow who came to see if we needed any help was friendly and welcoming. After checking out the bottle shop we were seated for lunch. They had both keg and cask beers available. This was new to my husband (the beer drinker in our family). Our server was happy to explain the difference, and happy to bring him two samples so my husband could choose what appealed to him more (the cask beer won). We ordered lunch--I had the soup of the day and my husband had the fish and chips. Both were very good. I was also able to order a glass of wine, so the non-beer drinkers are not out of luck. We enjoyed our lunch and bought a Drygate tee shirt on the way out. Drygate was the perfect lunch spot. Friendly people, well-located, good beer, good food, fun setting. So unlike most of the rest of the yelper community in Glasgow I unfortunately missed out on the initial trail runs and launch nights at drygate. However I have now been 3 days in a row and have fallen head over heels for the place. This is the only place worth visiting in the east end of Glasgow for great beer and spirits. Also the food menu is modern and eclectic if a little pricey. A constantly rotating beer selection with options from all over the uk and even the world. Awesome spirits which are at a decent price too. An amazing bottle fridge and they even have an off sales bottle shop which is open till 10pm. Ohh did I mention they have a brewery yes a frickin' brewery. To be fair it is more of a brewery with added bars and restaurant. Get on down here and try everything out. Located a good 10 minute walk from George Square, in "East Merchant City" (guffaw) this brewery/bar/pub/restaurant/event space is hipster through and through. Craft beer, artisan food, exposed beams, concrete, hyper-filament bulbs, tasteful graffiti... what more could you want? Pretty much every barman has a beard too, and every bar lady wishes she could grow one. Saying that, the selection of beers (8 on cask, 16 keg) is by far the widest selection you'll see in Glasgow (and maybe Scotland?) which is impressive. However the prices can be pretty high for most beers, although their own beers tend to be cheaper... which they should be seeing as there's no middleman involved. I have mixed feelings about Drygate. I wanted to see what their Sunday Urban Market was all about, and was also keen to try some fancy beer. So off I trotted. First of all, the trot. Unless you live locally, you're probably going to get a train to High St and walk. And while it's only a short walk, it's pretty desolate. It's past where the Great Eastern Hotel once was and I felt a bit vulnerable on my own tbh. To all the tourists out there, the Great Eastern was not actually a hotel. I know the area has probably been all regenerated and that, but on my own, i just didn't feel mega comfortable. Probably not helped by the first thing I saw on crossing the road from the station which was a young guy in one of those freaky skeleton half mask things, jigging about like his feet were on fire/he wanted to kill someone. Once there, I made my way upstairs to the Urban Market. To get to it, you have to walk across a beer hall. So far so good you might think. But the day I was there, there was football or some sort of sport on a big screen, and there were rows of guys sitting drinking and shouting at the screen. They didn't seem unpleasant or anything, probably just guys enjoying the sport, but I found it a wee bit intimidating. For a market that's probably more likely to appeal to women or families, to walk through that bar with the whole manly aggression vibe is just a wee bit off putting. After sloping about the Urban Market for a while (which is great btw, full of interesting goods), I steeled myself to go to the bar for a beer. I really didn't want to go to THAT bar though. So I asked if there was another bar and had a bit of a strange and overly protracted conversation, the outcome of which was that, while the restaurant was downstairs, there was also another bar downstairs where I could drink a beer. Having made my way downstairs, the chap I had just spoken to upstairs appeared at the bar downstairs. I was now starting to feel like I was in some sort of 2015 Hipster version of Mr Ben. Nevertheless I carried on with my 'I'm here now so I'm damn well getting a beer' mission and got a very fine beer. Mr Ben was lovely actually and recommended a beautiful wheat beer - Weihenstaphener - full of toffee and banana flavours. He totally tailored the beer to my requirements! It cost me £7 but it was probably worth it. If I was out for the night I would only need two of them and I'd have to be rolled home. I'd have that beer again in a heartbeat. Downstairs I was a bit more comfortable. Particularly once I'd had a few gulps of my exceptionally strong beer. I sat near the glass window - you can see the brewery through it, which, although you're just staring at a bunch of beer vats, is still interesting. Plus there was a tour on. I didn't know they did tours! I'd go back for a tour. Not sure I would go back otherwise though. Ok so I am struggling with this one a little bit. First up I love the idea of this place, the amount of beers is definitely a 5 star however I just straight out do not like the set up of the bar upstairs. There is nothing telling you what they are actually selling behind the bar! Set in a big beer hall style it's very dull and dark! This is the second time I have been here and this time food was on the brain. We were giving the option of the down stairs but it was only the grazing menu that was available but we could get some burgers upstairs! I went for the Mac and Cheese burger aka a carbohydrate dream. This was epic-ness. The mac was so home made you could taste every flavour In if served in a toasted bun with a huge portion of fries on the side. For those who know me I do not leave food, I struggled to finish this. The chips were taaassstttyyyy!! Part from the bad set up the other negative point is how awful the staff are! Not attentive enough, too busy giggling with the bearded men? Standing around not paying any attention- we asked one member of staff for the bill once she stopped chatting to her colleague she then remembered that we had asked for it she did apologise however continued to shout to her friend!! Even though I personally have never been a big fan of beer, I have a strange appreciation for restaurants/bars that have in house craft breweries. If you look at my previous review of Edinburgh's The Hanging Bat, this kind of place usually rates high for me. So, when I learnt about Drygate Brewing Co., located just east of the city centre, I was keen to give it a go. It took us a while to find it and even though it only takes about ten to fifteen minutes to walk to George Square from it, the place feels out of the way. The outside appearance isn't eye catching from the street, probably because it sits under the shadow of the massive Tennents Brewery. Once you pass through the gates the appearance is quite interesting; there are wooden stairs leading up to the balcony and beer hall with interesting and bold artwork around them. When we first arrived we actually walked into The Vintage, the restaurant on the lower level of the brewery. We had a quick look at the menu and thought it seemed a little expensive so headed upstairs for the beer hall. The menu is varied and reasonably priced, with mains costing between five and ten pounds. The tables are as a beer hall should be; multiple long tables which around eight people can sit around. It felt very open and factory like and I preferred the look of the downstairs area - it felt more natural and appealing. I decided to go for one of their tasting boards, choosing BBQ Pork Ribs, Popcorn Chicken, Sweet Potato Fritters and Smoked Chicken Pakora. Sam also ordered a tasting board, while our friends went for the Rarebit Beef Burger and the Pho. After waiting for around twenty minutes or more, a waitress came up to inform me that there were no BBQ Pork Ribs left and would I like to choose something else. In a snap decision I said "beer sticks." What I found so shocking is that twenty minutes after we had ordered, it was still late enough for me to change - were they only just getting our food on now? We were all slightly concerned, and hungry! It was another twenty minutes later before our food arrived and we only got three dishes instead of four. When the waitress noticed this, she remarked that she thought we had cancelled the Pho. We had not. She corrected this and the dish arrived about five or ten minutes later. Finally, we all tucked in, but unfortunately another red flag popped up. On the menu, the Rarebit Burger is listed as a beef patty, but when it arrived, it was called a lamb burger. Apparently the meat had been substituted because they were out of beef, but my friend was not informed of this change when she ordered. At this point the service had really let them down, with three blunders already under their belt. The staff certainly seemed flustered and although it had been busy when we first arrived, by the time we ordered it had quietened down somewhat. I dug into my board, hoping for good food but unfortunately what I received was distinctly average. My 'popcorn chicken' was tasty, with pieces of chopped spring onion and chilli through it, but it wasn't crispy, it was chewy and a little cold. My sweet potato fritters had some good spicing in them, and when dipped in the garlic mayo, were pretty tasty. The pakora had lost most of its heat too and although it claimed to be 'smoked' there was no real smokey flavour to it. The chicken was tender but there was a definite lack of flavour and I was a little disappointed. My final taster was my last minute decision of 'Beer Sticks.' As it turned out, they were kind of like slices of Pepperami but they had ale or beer through them (that was the rough description given by the staff.) I absolutely hated them. I'm not sure what it was about the flavour of them but I had one bite and immediately went 'bleugh.' On the other hand Sam absolutely loved them! It's a shame because I know I'm not a beer drinker and I think there was a distinct flavour there which I would naturally find unappealing. I wish I had been able to try the BBQ Ribs instead! Another negative point, although a minor issue for me, is that the boards were supposed to be accompanied by garlic mayo (which they were) and Mushroom & Stout Ketchup (which they weren't.) The ketchup sounded really interesting, I've never heard of such a thing and it would have been nice to be able to sample it. I think perhaps I made the wrong choice with the menu, or it was just a bad day for staff. This was, in actual fact, a menu just newly launched so perhaps everyone was struggling to get used to it and perfect it. Either way, unfortunately for Drygate, today was an off day. read more

But the Orange March was in town and the getaway options were limited. A quick dash up side streets and a shimmy or two saw us stumble upon Drygate Brewing Co :) There's good parking here and I'd heard that there's a burger bar upstairs so up we trotted, but the polished concrete walls and very little light gave that stark fall-out shelter vibe, so back down we trundled to the relative warmth of the main bar eating area. It's fairly well lit with big picture windows and a viewing window to the brewery and is way more vibrant than upstairs. Our menus arrived with a chirpy smile and drinks were ordered. The hoppy house lager was particularly aromatic and comes in half, 2/3rd's and full pint varieties and soft drinks are well priced at £1.50 While perusing the menu one of my eating partners snapped "I refuse to pay £11.50 for a burger!!!" and I agreed, pretty steep (West charge £8.) So Brisket on sourdough with gherkins, mustard and vegetable crisps on the side were ordered at £7 a pop. Have to say the brisket was "melt in the mouth" fab and the bread equally so and just as big as the burger. We also ordered a couple of portions of chips (£2.50) and all in all, more than enough for the 3 of us. So in general we were happy. A great selection of drinks (in-house Lagers, I.P.A's, Hefe's, etc...), a beer terrace, service and the downstairs bar are all fantastic. But the upstairs dungeon and some (not all) of their food pricing is well off the mark. read more

A wee update for Drygate after two recent visits - one was really good and the other was disappointing, so I've landed at 4 as an updated rating. I was at Drygate for the Scottish Coffee Festival and found the staff working in the beer hall area to be excellent - really helpful and friendly, and took good care of us all day, making sure we had space to eat and topping up our sippy cups without any fuss. In the evening we'd packed up and decided to stay on for dinner. I asked the waitress what she thought of the mac cheese, and while she hadn't tried it she did tell me that it had a great reputation. She was right - it was perfectly cheesy and luscious, and I was really impressed by it. Apparently each batch is made up fresh which I'd definitely believe after eating it. We also visited the bottle shop and had brilliant service from the guy working there - he recommended the Limoncello IPA which is now up there in my favourite beers ever (and at over 9% it's a lot of fun, too). He made sure our beers were packed into carrier bags perfectly and even double-bagged them so I didn't have to worry about losing all my beloved Apple Ales over the carpark. I visited for Yelp Brunch Club the following weekend where we had a booking for 20. I'd been told on the phone that we'd be sat at one table in front of the bar however they'd placed us over two tables up the back near the bottle shop. This meant that there were constantly people pushing past our table to get to the elevator/bottle shop which I found annoying. Menus weren't ready (and in fact were delayed by them needing to print more!) and it took a really long time to get our order taken for drinks and food. When we did get our order taken, they didn't take the order of the second table so I had to ask the waitress to come back. My food (eggs benedict) was fine but it would have needed to be exceptional to make up for the issues with the speed of service. I'd have been more understanding but for the fact we'd made a booking to warn them of such a large group. Service in the bottle shop on this day was pretty grouchy (it was a different guy) and when I asked for a second bag around my beers he grumbled about the 5p bag charge - hey, I wasn't expecting the bag for free! All up, I really want to love Drygate and see it back at 5 stars. Hopefully next time. read more

First impressions when we reach the entrance to Drygate, neighbouring the Wellshot Tennents Brewery, is WOW! The exterior is fairly unassuming, but is canopied by a wooden treehouse, behind which a vintage mini van, Felicitie I think she was called, sits. There are a few tables, somewhat akin to a classic uni library, for outdoor seating, though they look rather precariously perched on a sloping driveway. Not sure how safe your pint would be. When we enter, it's in to the restaurant area, catered by Vintage, a London based Michelin Star restaurant I'm told, and are greeted by a hostess. Now, this may seem like a nice, professional touch, but when I enter a bar I don't expect to be greeted as soon as I walk in the door, especially not for the first time. I like to get a feel for the layout, check out the surroundings and my target seat, then hit the bar. I'm reminded that I've entered a restaurant, not a pub, particularly when we're told the seat we've chosen has been booked, and we'll have to move soon. And this, to me at least, detracts from the atmosphere that was inferred when they announced a speciality craft beer bar next door to Tennents. But like I said, that's just me. The bar has a lovely, stylish and simplistic layout. The main taps are along the back wall, with the guest ales handwritten on the chalk splash back. Young Jamie, formerly of Brewdog fame, is on hand to talk me through the ales, and after a few tasters I opt for the Mokko Milk Stout, a delicious coffeeish stout, with a slight sweetness. I felt like sampling some of the snack platters, but since my companion was heading off to your bloody cake tasting event I was left to go hungry. Eventually I convinced him to share in some octopus pastrami, which we had with bread. The bread was a lovely sour dough crusty loaf, but it seemed like it had been in the kitchen for at least a day or 2. The octopus pastrami; thinly sliced tentacles in pastrami smoked spices, was unexpectedly delicious, and I was disappointed Dunc had chosen to share it, as the £4 portion was a tea plate, with a thin layer of the octopus. Pretty small, even for a snack plate. We had a wander round the top bar, which wasn't open, and the upper deck of the treehouse beer garden. It's going to a beautiful outdoor seating come the nice weather. Or even the cold weather, with a couple of big heaters, and a warming spiced ale. All in all I enjoyed my visit, though I think Sunday afternoon, family friendly atmosphere isn't really for me. But I look forward to a post work pint some evening, and a try of their main food menu. read more

I took my family to Drygate as our Dad worked at Tennents in the 60's. I asked the young guy upon entering if he could give us a table somewhere quieter as I have hearing problems , for some reason he put us right next to the kitchen and coffee machine , not sure what I did to upset him , I then asked if there was another table , perhaps down by the window at the far end , he then told me everything else was reserved , that didn't sit right as there were dozens of seats. He gave us a booth which clearly would have been a better choice at the start. Food was lovely but marred by the young guy's attitude to us , sorry mate if you are getting ticked off at having to repeat yourself about scan and check ins , not our fault. read more

Again, I must say that this is my favourite restaurant bar in glasgow! It's beautiful, with amazing staff members and equally amazing food! Brought my partners dad here for dinner and to try the tapas style food. He too was in love with Drygate! He absolutely loved the beer as well. My partner tried one that tasted like coffee. Strange but nice! I of course has my fav apple ale! For dinner, we ordered that burgers, scallop, risotto, stuffed guinea fowl and a side of chips. Everything was wonderful! The scallops were my absolutely favourite! We also shared their doughnuts for dessert. Filled us to the brim with satisfaction :) read more

Yesterday was my first visit to Drygate for Craft Beer Rising and it was amazing! There was beer, cider and ale from the UK and beyond. so many new things to taste and enjoy. Everyone at all the stands were very knowledgeable about their craft and their products, along with the Drygate staff who were very friendly and helpful. With our Craft Beer Rising glasses, we toured the beer hall and with 1/3 of a pint from £1 (in tokens which you could exchange on the way in) it was very easy to try many tasty and hoppy wonders. I think the only downside was that we didn't get to try the much raved about Drygate menu but there is always next time. I think my visit has definitely made me want to visit Drygate properly and we will be back very soon to see what else they have to offer. read more

Thoroughly enjoyed the sharing board (all to myself) & burger (my girlfriend) which we had here for lunch last Saturday. The service was good and food prices didn't seem outrageous. As with other tap house-type experiences don't expect to find the company's own beers any cheaper than elsewhere, despite the small journey from ingredients to product. Some naturally also don't come in full pints but, as that nonsense is to be expected, it won't spoil the enjoyment. You might manage a bargain in the well stocked wee beer shop though so it's definitely worth a look. There's also a selection of books so I left one by Haruki Murakami in place of one by Philip K. Dick so I'd say that's a good trade. read more

I have been to Drygate quite a few times since it opened and I have to say it has grown on me as I find the staff a lot friendlier than I did initially. There is a great selection of beers on tap, I enjoyed the Axeman Rye IPA which is one of Drygate's own. I ordered a cheese board to enjoy with my beer. The oatcakes tasted homemade with a lovely crunch, the apple ale jelly was delicious and there was a nice mix of cheeses my only complaint was that the grapes looked a bit tired. You get a good view into the brewery and you can even book a tour if you want to learn more about beer. read more

Since my initial review, I've been to Drygate several more times and my opinion has changed a little. I've not eaten again here - and have no intention of doing so again (seriously, it WAS that bad). However, it's a convenient meeting point, halfway between Dennistoun and Merchant City , so we end up here fairly regularly. It's a great place to go for a beer and catch up with friends . The staff are always friendly and happy to recommend bets and let you try a wee bit become you settle on buying one. It always has a great atmosphere too - although if you don't have a hipster beard you may feel a little out of place ;) read more

Drygate is great in many ways, but it is not quite 5 stars for me. I have been a couple of times now and there is loads of brilliant things about it, but there is also one or two negatives. On the brilliant side is of course the beer range, which is epic. I love the variety in the bar and off license and the fact they do their own beers at a decent price if you want to take them away. I am not so keen about the fact the bottle range is only on the website and the beers are pretty hard to pick out behind the counter. At the weekend I went along for some food and a few areas of improvement stood out for me. The upstairs bar is akin to sitting in a car park, if you get a seat outside I am sure it is grand, but if not you are stuck in a dark concrete room with very little natural light. The service in that area was really slow, there was plenty of staff about, but they all seemed a bit to busy chatting with each to give an efficient level of service to customers. The rarebit burger I had tasted lovely and the chips were good, but again for the price the presentation was average and the portion size seemed a bit stingy. I would actually have preferred to sit in the downstairs restaurant, but it turns out the burger menu was not allowed there and the dinner menu was not on for another hour so I had to go upstairs to the car park to eat if I did not want to be stuck with the grazing menu. Ok enough moaning from me. Even though not perfect, Drygate is still a great new addition to the Glasgow food and drink scene. As I said earlier the beer range is amazing and its location is really good as it adds something to an area that you previously would never have thought of going to for a few pints. read more

This is an excellent place to hang out in the centre of Glasgow. Located beside the behemoth that is the Tennent's Brewery, Drygate is home to a decent-sized craft brewery and an excellent bar/restaurant and beerhall. We didn't eat on our visit, but the menu looked extensive and the food looked great too. The beer selection is top class. They sell plenty of their own wonderful creations (including some pretty strong ales), but also beers from other breweries and countries. I'm sure the selection changes regularly, so there'll always be something to satisfy all tastebuds. Not only is the variety of actual beers very extensive, there are also a wide range of sizes to try. If you're not in the mood for an entire pint, that isn't a problem, as you can also get 1/3, 1/2, and 2/3 pints. Excellent. Bar staff are friendly and are happy to explain the characteristics of the beers on offer. You can try a selection before deciding which you'll have and can then relax in the vibrant bar area. As you sit and enjoy your drink, you also get a view of the actual brewing area, which is quite cool. It feels down to earth and personal being so close to where the product is made. Upstairs is the beer hall, where there is also an outdoor balcony area with tables. We sat in the beer hall to watch Ireland V Scotland in rugby, and the atmosphere was good inside. Lots of people sitting on long benches enjoying great beer in a nice venue. This is definitely a positive addition to the city of Glasgow, and I will certainly be back next time I'm in town. read more

I came for one thing and one thing only: The doughnuts with the coffee and tonka caramel and candied hazelnut. Oh and it was worth the trip. It was presented beautifully, was warm and soft and utterly delicious. I also loved the whole aesthetic of the place. From the twinkling fairy lights outside, to the pine branches covered canopy, the wooden deck, the Industrial look, the Brewery machinery seen behind a huge glass wall and of course the roaring fire that greets you as you walk in. I throughly enjoyed my quick visit here and next time I'll leave the car at home so I can truly sample what this place has to offer! read more
