Amazing! As someone who usually only gets their hair done when it's for a cut, I wasn't so sure on spending the money for a blowout. 100% worth it! I've already been back. Service is wonderful, staff is pleasant and knowledgeable. I was nervous as I have very thick curly hair, but it seems that this is not an issue as it has been at other salons. I even tried two different stylists and left both feeling great! My hair looks and feels great, definitely could never get the feel/smoothness at home. Now I understand all the negative reviews on this location (Boston_Claredon st) I walked in to make an appointment for the next day and the encounter with the receptionist (Name sounded like Julian? hard to hear thru mask) was so unpleasant that when at the end she asked: "do you want the appt or not?" If I could give zero stars I would. This is the worst experience I've ever had. They have a 15 minute grace period and I knew I was going to be a few minutes late so I called. They didn't pick up the phone and when I walked in 15 minutes later which was still in the grace period they refused to give me my service. They then allowed two other people who were the same amount of time late as I was to get their services done, but refused to allow me to. They then offered a dry style which I told them I needed a minute to consider and two minutes later when I said I would do it they said it was too late. This was an important appointment because I have an event the next day. I'm so upset by the treatment I was given and when I tried to reason with the person working they treated me as a child which I found extremely disrespectful. If they aren't going to pick up the phone then why have a phone number? The person working then proceeded to tell me I had to text. Don't give the option to leave a message and call when you won't answer the phone. I tried to reason and I was extremely polite and as nice as possible given the disrespectful situation. My birthday party hair. Front came out nice. Luckily my friends that were with me saw the hard part in the back which was atrocious. We came in as a party of 3-for a birthday and none of us got to sit together which was weird as other places try to accommodate. We let the ladies know that our hair was for later in the evening and we would need it to stay and for me- unless you use a lot of product-it doesn't hold. The stylist that did my hair told me not to worry that they have lots of tricks to make it stay. No hairspray was used. 100% would NOT recommend for naturals unless you are okay with risking heat damage. My stylist Venus did not listen to me when I was communicating how I'd like my hair done. She kept politely laughing as if I was trying to tell her how to do her job. I told her that I don't mind if my hair isn't bare bone straight but she insisted on turning up the flat iron to 450 degrees and doing like 4-6 passes of the iron on my hair. Also she flat ironed my hair in big chunks and was surprised that it wasn't working. It is common knowledge that you handle natural hair in smaller chunks. I repeatedly said, "it's okay if it's not completely straight". Also when you make appointments they don't let you specify what type of stylist you want because "everyone is trained on every type of hair." It it just pure facts that the stylist may have been trained but that does not mean they are good. If you have natural hair and are cautious of heat damage, only go here if it is your last option or you are in a pinch. Also I went in the middle of the day on a weekday, they had no other customers. So there wasn't any pressure to rush for other clients. Overall the people here are nice people, clean facilities, more diversity in stylist than when I last went.. Horrible customer service! Mediocre blow-dry service. I've been here multiple times and always have to wait at least 20 minutes past my appointment time only to be rushed and not given any of the extras I signed up for. I'm not sure why I keep coming back, but this last time was definitely it for me. I booked online for myself and 2 friends. When we arrived they said they only had 2 appointments even though I showed them my appointment confirmation for 3. The 2 girls at the front desk were unapologetic and rude, ignored our request to speak to a manager, and did absolutely nothing for us. Blamed me for making my appointment online because "the app doesn't work". Unfortunately, we had to decide which one of us would go to our event with dirty hair. After deciding who would take one for the team and opt out we still waited about 30 minutes to be seen! I reached out to dry bar customer service and got no response! Also, it doesn't matter what style you pick. They do whatever they can do the quickest. Save your money and get a good blowout from a salon that cares about it's customers. I had an appointment at 7:45 am with a specific stylist and they made her take someone else before me and I was on time. I had to wait 25 minutes and finally after I had to ask, someone agreed to wash my hair so I would be ready when my stylist was. This never did happen. One woman left because they were so backed up. Hard to believe that this company gets all kinds of accolades but in reality it is poorly run. My stylist then told me that they overbooked and stylists didn't show. I had another appointment at 4:30 on a Saturday and the were running 45 minutes late. Again way over booked. How can they run a business this way??? They actually lied to me ... told me someone had my appointment card, was downstairs and would be up I- 2 minutes. I asked 10 minutes later and the receptionist had my card in her hand so had never given it to anyone. U have to go through an 800 number to make any changes and can't talk to the salon directly which is also frustrating. My Drybar experience probably would have been great with another stylist. But Dominique - the one that I got at the Clarendon St. location in Boston was incredibly rude to me throughout the duration of the blowout. When I arrived, my hair (which is naturally kinky) was quite tangled and difficult to work with. After putting a mudslide treatment on my hair, Dominique continued to get frustrated with how difficult it was to detangle. Every time she expressed her frustration, I apologized and admitted that I wasn't the best with detangling my own hair and that taking care of it was difficult for me. Her response was, "yeah I can see that. You can't take care of your own hair. That is very clear to me." She also told me "we don't do detangling here" and something about how it was against 'company policy,' - which I hadn't seen on the website at all. I didn't know if it was true but I told her that I would 100% pay appropriately if there were any additional fees with detangling a client's hair. But then she went to get me a comb and told me to "start detangling," saying that "this was going to be a team effort," and then she left me alone to detangle my hair by myself. I sat alone in the wash room for periods of 10-15 minutes at a time while other customers came and went with their hair washed and she went upstairs and I didn't see her. Each time she came back and saw that I wasn't done detangling, she said "well you're just going to have to sit here" and then she would leave again. She said this in front of other customers and I was incredibly embarrassed, especially since I didn't see any other stylists leaving their clients or telling them to detangle their own hair. Once my hair was finally detangled and it was time to style, she spent most of the styling session berating me for having left my previous braids in so long. To be clear - she was right that I had left my braids in for way too long and that was entirely my fault. But my coming to Drybar was an attempt to fix it and she made me feel like my hair was beyond saving. Throughout the styling Dominique continued to say things like, "you are an African-American woman. You cannot do this to your hair." or "You're an African-American woman. You know that your hair can't look like theirs (referring to the other white customers) you should have known better." She asked me what I planned to do with my hair after the blowout and when I told her I was planning on getting a relaxer she got really mad. She told me "if you get a relaxer your hair is all going to fall out. Look at this. It's completely dead." and she told me I'd be better if I just cut it all off. Needless to say, I left the blowout feeling like absolute shit. I asked to speak with one of the educators and got to talk with Valerie? Vanessa? (Her name started with V) about my experience. I couldn't even tell her the whole story without crying. Vanessa was extremely kind - she listened to me and was shocked when I told her how Dominique had treated me. She apologized on her behalf and told me that she'd like me to come back for a proper experience. However there is no way I'm coming back to Drybar after this embarrassing experience that literally left me in tears. I had had high hopes for my time at Drybar but left feeling so belittled and ashamed. I have been coming to Dry Bar for years and always am amazed how they transform my hair! I have very thick, long, kinky curly hair and I leave looking incredible. This past time the girl that did my hair didn't even use the flat iron, and after I paid I realized I was not satisfied and it didn't look great. The girl left, and after I told the assistant manager Ashley I wasn't happy, she offered to fix it for me. She did an amazing job and honestly saved me from being really upset. Absolute waste of money. My hair is frizzy and puffy and I 100% could have done a better job myself. I have a lot of hair and could tell the stylist was rushing. I even paid the extra $15 for the liquid glass to help with the frizzing but it was also a waste of money. This was my first drybar experience and it was also probably the last. My stylist Shayla had no chairside manner at all, no attempt at small talk. She asked me what kind of style I wanted when I was at the bowl (no mention of any of the drybar looks) and let me know when the water changed temperature- that's it. She was super aggressive with scrubbing my head at the bowl to the point where it was unpleasant. All the clips used in my hair came out of a shared bowl and went right back in when Shayla unpinned me, so gross but I was in too deep at this point. I am incredibly sad to leave this rating, and as a marketer of franchises and a loyal supporter of the brand, it frustrates me beyond belief that one location could tarnish the brand equity of one of my favorite brands. I am a bar fly member and have NEVER received such poor customer service. My team and I were in town for Inbound and were so excited to treat a few new members to the "Dry Bar Experience " Sadly, it was one of the worst ever. We walked in and were barely greeted by a man with a bun. We called and booked apts prior to our travels ( and subsequently did not bring blow dryers) He looked at us and said sorry your not in the system. Then proceeded to barely acknowledge the guest behind us. We shoes him our confirmation email and nothing. We told him we were from out of town and if there was another location or anything he could do to help us we would greatly appreciate it. He went silent and just stared at the computer. We were patiently waiting as a woman checked in and said oops I had two Appointments booked, can you cancel one. We all looked at eaither hoping he would offer a solution for at least one of us. NOTHING. I then checked on the app and there was an apt 15 min after the cancellation and one 30 min after. I was so frustrated I asked again to see the calendar he was seeing. I politely pleaded for him to help us find a solution. He ignored me and I finally asked and tried to joke with a stylist telling her we didn't bring blow dryers and scheduled our whole morning around this and we would love for her to help us. She laughed and walked away. So much for teamwork customer service! My team all started walking away in sadness and I said.. guys wait. I'm just going to go show him that we can stagger. He looked at me confused and still didn't communicate. Then he said ok, what times do you want!? AHHHHH It took everything in my power not to scream. Then we all sat there waiting. He got all our names wrong, after we spelled them out. No one offered us coffee, water, tea? I saw a small cart and asked him if we get our own coffee at this location and he said.. oh we don't have coffee today. We needed to make it but we didn't!! Updated review: I did have 1 bad experience here but drybar cares about their customers and I went back and had a much better time. Loved the way my hair came out and was treated superbly. There is nothing better than treating yourself to a blowout. I liked my final result of my hair, but my experience here was far from pleasurable. While I was getting my hair dried, the stylist had the heat up so high on the drier and the drier so close to my scalp it felt like it was singeing my scalp. Despite me flinching she kept going. Also, throughout my entire appointment, I was never offered a drink. I think this is a big part of the experience here and it is unacceptable that I was not offered anything when clients all around me were getting drinks from their stylist. This is my second time here. The first time was very enjoyable and my stylist was extremely accommodating and brought me drinks throughout my experience. This was my first time at any Drybar and I had an overall pleasant experience. I booked my appointment online, arrived on time, and was almost immediately taken to get my hair washed. My stylist was super friendly and really took her time to get my hair done and done properly. If you're ever in the area and want to give Drybar a try, I recommend it, but definitely ask for Sarah - she's awesome (not all the stylists are of the same caliber unfortunately)...also they have mimosas so that's a plus. My only complaint is about the front desk receptionist. She was not at all friendly or helpful, it seemed like I was bothering her when I arrived to check in initially and also when I went to pay. I was thinking about buying some products to take home, but decided against it because I wanted to end my conversation with her as soon as possible. So. Engagement photos, they're kind of a big deal right? I wanted something special for my hair and my normal stylist wasn't available that day (I usually go to shag in south boston) so I booked an appointment with drybar for a "cosmo-tai". It was a Wednesday so I got there early and my stylist took me early which was awesome. No complaints about the wash either, felt good. Now on to the blowout. I'm going to start by saying I actually was very happy when I left the salon. My hair looked fab.....unfortunately it didn't FEEL fab with the ungodly amount of hairspray in it (my hair has always held up with minimal hairspray and my blowouts+ styles from my normal hairstylist are always soft to the touch and last for DAYS) but you know what it's just pictures, as long as it looks good I can look past the crunchy. Here's the kicker: MY HAIRSTYLE FELL FLAT IN 60 MINUTES! Like I said, I've never had a problem with this before so I was honestly shocked. There was SOME waves visible but all the volume and bounce was gone and there were more straight pieces than curled pieces. It was so bad I actually thought about cancelling my shoot. In a short period of time that I SHOULD have been having fun with my fiancé, I was frantically trying to fix and completely redo my own hair. It was a nightmare. I have added some pictures and the 3rd photo is for reference for what my hair will normally look like with a blowout leaving my normal salon where the style lasts and lasts. The difference between the two is shocking. TLDR: I paid $50 for a crunchy, dry, flat hairstyle that I had to fix myself which was increasingly difficult with the overwhelming amount of product in already. As an African American with coarse hair, I was quite hesitant about getting my done in a salon in back bay. So I walked in with pretty low expectations but to my surprise drybar did not disappoint! My stylist Carmin was such a professional! She took the time to allow me to voice my preferences and concerns before she brought me over to the wash area. She did an outstanding job with the shampooing which left my scalp feeling super clean afterwards. She was efficient and thorough with the blow dry and flat iron while using just the right amount of product in my hair. Her effervescent attitude and charisma was so enjoyable and it was a blast being her client for the hour. Overall she is exceptional and by far one of the best hair dressers that I've ever been to! I went to Drybar Back Bay before my college graduation ceremony last week. My blowout took close to 30 minutes longer than the time they told me my appointment would take (35 minutes). I have very fine hair and not much of it, so it should have really taken even less time than what's "normal". However, the extra 30 minutes made me almost late to my ceremony, and I felt very rushed and anxious throughout what was supposed to be a fun, relaxing blowout experience. The blowout itself was less than satisfactory. The underneath of my hair wasn't even curled despite asking for the Mai Tai with a little bit of Cosmo (see attached picture). After the ceremony, I went home a re-curled it myself for pictures because my hair looked as if I rolled out of bed and didn't brush my hair. If the session didn't go 30 minutes over, then I would have definitely asked the stylist to redo it, but I just didn't have enough time and the stylist QUICKLY left the chair after he said he was finished as if he knew he did a poor job. Finally, I have the barfly membership and when I went to pay, I specifically asked that they use my "free birthday blowout". I even called Drybar earlier that week to confirm I can use the birthday blowout. The man at the register looked a little confused and after standing around for 5 min trying to figure it out, he hesitantly said, "Okay you're good to go." I knew he didn't do it correctly by how long it took him, so I called Drybar to confirm my birthday blowout was used and surprise, surprise it wasn't. Now I have to go out of my way to figure out how to get credited back for my blowout because of the incompetency of this location. My friend and I went to dry bar despite her experience having gone there before. The setting is beautiful, clean, and smells amazing the second you walk in. The hostess greets you and asks what you would like for a drink. My friend and I chose the white wine which was delicious (likely a Riesling). We both started pretty much on time. My stylist was very nice, soft spoken, and friendly. She asked what I wanted and if I had looked at the menu. I told her I wanted the MaiTai which is supposed to look like beach waves. She washed my hair - the products smell so pretty. It was very relaxing but unfortunately my entire back was soaked from the wash. My stylist apologized but it wasn't very comfortable if I am being honest. As for my hair, it was awesome feeling pampered. The stylist was gentle enough and didn't over do it on products. However, I left with more of a big loose curl look than a beachy waves. It also might be nice if the mirros are lower because I couldn't see my hair being done. Overall it was a fun experience with the drinks, being there w my friend, and not having to do my hair before going out. I wanted to treat myself to a blowout but was, sadly, really disappointed with the whole experience. (End result was fine though) I had a pre-scheduled appointment for 10:00 AM and was asked to wait. At 10:21 it was my turn. That would have been ok had someone just followed up in the meantime or apologized. Now it felt more like I should be grateful they took care of me at all. Next disappointment: I had booked a scalp massage, which was confirmed when I checked in, as well as with my stylist, but I received none. It was just weird, because I couldn't tell whether the -not unpleasant but definitely not relaxing- scratching for about 1 minute on my scalp was washing or a massage. ( I didn't have to pay for massage in the end) The stylist did her job, but did almost not communicate with me so my look was a bit weird until I gave some feedback. Finally when I paid they were not service minded and polite at all. I did not get to see the final amount before paying (wanted to confirm they took the massage out if it) and when I asked for a receipt they said they'd email. I pointed out I did not receive it and (though I understand there may not be much they can do about technical issues), they could at least be service minded and not treat it like someone else's problem. Another comment: I was offered "something to drink" but it would have been nice to hear what you had to offer (there is no drink list). I was so apprehensive about going here because of all the terrible reviews, which I might add are a staple of all Drybar experiences for each location in Boston. However, mine was quite different. Carmen did an amazing job with my blowout, the 'straight up'. I have super curly/coily hair that hits mid back when straightened. I was so impressed that I was in & out in 1 hour!! The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because I felt my wash could've been better. I feel like she could've worked the product into my thick hair better. Love it! My 1st app I got it because a friend got me 2 floater for scalp massage and blow dry. I Did my appointment with the app: Súper Easy! Then I got there and the front desk/ host new who I was and greet me with such a smile and joy, it felt like walking in a bar :) then Jenna (Great stylist) did my hair Awesomely and gave me great tips for my curly hair and how to use hair oil.
