Drop Dead Gorgeous is a 70s themed speakeasy located inside of Filthy Animal. My friend and I arrived around opening hour and got a good spot in the middle of the bar. I love the giant disco balls and the aesthetic of this place. We started with the appletini and lemongrass highball (non-alcoholic). My friend and I ended up switching drinks because we liked each other's more than our own. For the second round, we ordered the brandy spritz and primrose martini. We weren't fans of the brandy spritz, although my friend grew into it. The primrose martini was quite good, I liked it better than the appletini. For snackies, we ordered the glizzy gaunlet, which was basically a tower of carbs. It came with 5 mini dogs with milk bread, and potato wedges. There were 3 sauces, my favorite in order were the: truffle dijonnaise, kosho aioli, and korean ketchup. We enjoyed this more than the food at Filthy Animal. Although it was pricey ($22) for just carbs and hardly any protein. The milk bread was delicious and the mini dogs were pretty good too. The potato wedges were cooked perfectly, slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Would I return? Probably not. The food was better than the drinks but it wasn't outstanding.

Located inside the filthy animal, this is such a fun, upscale speakeasy! The multiple disco balls really set the vibe. I like a sweeter cocktail so the staff recommended the appletini for me which was delightful. Given the all-around excellent service, ambience, and drinks, I would definitely recommend this place. I was able to get bar seating on a Tuesday night, but would recommend making a reservation as it fills up easily here.

Finally tried this speakeasy, and the vibe was definitely 70's disco party! Our server was very knowledgeable about the food and drinks menu. She was extremely knowledgeable about GF options as well! Finally got a chance to visit Drop Dead Gorgeous this past weekend for a girls night and I already want to go back. Vibes were there, service was great, and drinks were even better! I had their appletini and my friend had a primrose drink.

Such a cute and adorable place! The service was impeccable, the atmosphere was fantastic, and the snacks were delicious! It's a 70's vibe with great music playing overhead! They are very serious about the 90 minute limit so be prepared for that! However, they are very pleasant when reminding you about the time! My girlfriends and I thoroughly enjoyed our time there and we plan to return. Parking is tricky though! They do have complimentary valet parking, but it's hard to find the actually valet parking location!

While both are worth a visit, grab your reservations in advance. After dinner at Filthy Animal, Drop Dead Gorgeous was the perfect nightcap. If you visit, whatever you do, don't miss the opportunity to try the mega viral cocktail. This unique tequila cocktail highlights pisco, melon, and lemongrass in a way that pleases both sweet and sour cocktail lovers! Trust me when I say I'm coming back for this little baby has earned a spot on my next visit to Phoenix!

We made reservations next door for dinner but wished to start off at this cute 70's themed speakeasy. You cannot enter from the outside. You must go through the Filthy Animal Restaurant. I parked in the garage off if Ash which they kindly validated a 2 hour timeframe. We did not have reservations but they were able to accommodate our group of four. For reference. We arrived just as they opened at 5:00pm so we were the only group there at that time. I liked the dark atmosphere with couches and large tables for groups. They also had a decent size bar if you would like to sit at the bar instead. Sadia was our server was excellent and made several recommendations for cocktails. We had a variety of martinis and a prosecco. My dirty martini came in a coupe style glass. A little smaller than what I would call a standard martini glass but sufficient for the evening. Same with the Prosecco. It was served in a coupe cocktail stemmed glass. The bar staff were great. They brought our birthday girl a complimentary shot to celebrate her special day. Sadia also offered to take pictures of our group. We had a great experience in part to the wonderful staff at Drop Dead Gorgeous. We will definitely be back!

It was pretty dead when we came here on a Sunday night. We came after dining at Filthy Animal for a friend's birthday and expected to have a great experience after spending thousands of dollars on dinner as a group in their private room. They seated us at a small table where our party of ten knocked knees and was so cramped when there was an empty table right across from us with much more room. Our waitress, Priscilla, took awhile to come take our orders. We were then told shortly after our first (and only) round that they were closing soon and she had to check us out. When the birthday girl mentioned that she didn't like her drink, Priscilla told us that the bar was already closed and there was nothing she could do. It was surprising that she didn't even offer to refund it as three people in our party got the same drink and all hated it. While this place is conveniently attached to Filthy Animal and does have a cool vibe to lounge post dinner, there are several other speakeasies in the valley that I think are much better (Tell Your Friends, Bar Bambino and Rough Rider, to name a few). On the bright side, I went rogue and ordered off the menu and got a paper plane cocktail, which everyone in our party agreed was the best tasting and most aesthetic cocktail at our table. It came with a cute paper plane attached to it that was made out of receipt paper! The bill for me and one other person was close to $50, and the expected minimum tip is 20%, but I don't think our experience justified this cost.

A gorgeous, yet intimate, speakeasy! Located inside Filthy Animal, DDG is a bumping bar with a large disco ball in the middle and DJ. We had to enter through Filthy Animal and a hostess was able to take us directly to the speakeasy. Definitely would recommend making reservations and to save any important conversations for elsewhere, as you'll be shouting over the music (which was pretty good the night I visited)! We didn't order any of the food and opted for cheaper/more cost-effective options, but got the Appletini and the Sesame Highball. Drinks were priced relatively fairly. The Appletini was a perfect choice for anyone who likes a sweet drink. My sesame highball came with a pepper and was a little spicy - not what I was expecting from the menu description but still a very finely curated drink. Chloe helped us and was very kind. Overall, a great place for a casual night for disco/dance vibes.

Friday night at Drop Dead Gorgeous was a vibe! We werent aware it was just a 90 minute experience but it was perfect. My girls and I had such a great time the ambiance is sultry and fun and the light bites were delish. I ordered the oysters and my friends ordered the sexy tendies (we asked were they big or small and we thought they would be small but them tendies were pretty big) ( the red sauce wasnt too good!) Our server was amazing and she did such a great job checking on us and keeping our drinks full. I definitely want to come back and also try filthy animal after the 90 minute experience. My friend and I made a reservation for dinner at Filthy Animal followed by drinks at Drop Dead Gorgeous. We scheduled them consecutively. After a wonderful dinner at Filthy Animal, we returned to the hostess stand to check in for our reservation at DDG. The staff kindly escorted us over and another staff member from DDG seated us. The space is so fun! Straight out of a 1970s disco. A server came by shortly after. We asked the server to confirm the amount of mozzarella sticks that come in an order and she said one but explained that it can be shared. It sounded good so we ordered that along with two glasses of prosecco. When they brought out the mozzarella our mouths dropped. This SINGLE mozzarella was comparable in size to a standard mozzarella stick you'd find in the frozen aisle of a grocery store... and it cost $16! Diabolical. The only difference is they dressed it up in caviar and chili oil, which I will admit enhanced the overall flavor. However, the mozzarella stick itself tasted just like a typical mozzarella stick to me. Not worth $16 for one. Other than the silly mozzarella stick, we had a great experience overall. The staff was warm and welcoming. It's a cool speakeasy and def worth checking out!

Such a groovy spot, I LOVED it!!! This hidden speakeasy is located inside Filthy Animal. Parking validated (for two hours) and available at the Chase parking garage. Reservations are recommended. We were a bit early but they accommodated us. This is also a 90 minute experience and they were pretty strict about that, so time your drinks accordingly. Our server Anna was awesome and helped me figure out which drink to start with. I choose the Brandy Spritz and really enjoyed it, the cinnamon and apple flavors really made this feel like Fall cocktail. I also tried the Appletini drink later, but it wasn't as good as the Brandy Spritz, in my opinion. My friends and I also ordered the Sexy Tendies and Dumplings. Both dishes were incredible, but the Sexy Tendies were on another level!!!!! I would eat these everyday, and recommend everyone try them, they were sooo good!!!!!! With awesome atmosphere, food, drinks and service, I give this place a 10/10!!! Can't wait to bring everyone I know here!

This speakeasy is so cute and the aesthetic is everything. They have a small appetizer menu and the drinks were good. I wish they had espresso martinis on their menu but everything I ordered was still super delicious! Customer service was great! I'll be back. read more

Drop Dead Gorgeous is a very small speakeasy in Tempe, so I'd recommend making reservations at least 2-3 weeks in advance. The space is cozy and fits the speakeasy vibe perfectly. My experience was a bit mixed. Our server seemed exhausted and only checked on us twice, but another staff member did come around to refill waters and see if we wanted to order again, which helped. As for the drinks, the lemon drop cocktail was delicious, but one of the sweeter pink drinks tasted more like sugar water and I wouldn't recommend it. [I cannot remember the name] Overall, the ambiance is fun and worth checking out, but the service and drinks could use a little more consistency. read more

So glad we went into this cute 70s speak easy. The servers have these cute 70s outfits. All the drinks were delicious. I got the desert drink and they make these drinks in advance in a 15-18 step process, so cool. Mike came around and told us how the drinks were made and I can't wait to come back on Friday or Saturday when it's packed in here. read more

This is a disco rave "speakeasy"--a discrave speakeasy, if you will. I say this because it's a hidden bar within the restaurant and it plays disco music with a disco ball hanging. I made a reservation, and I'd recommend doing the same to be safe and to ensure you get a seat. It can also be busy at the hostess table for the main restaurant (called Filthy Animal), so you may need to ask them a few times to be taken back to the bar, since it's located in the kitchen area. The vibes are very upscale, modern, and fancy--like a nightclub with a live DJ spinning while you order from their food and drink menu. The menu features fun concoctions with lots of random ingredients that usually result in a tasty drink. There's a disco ball, fog, and plush chairs. Drinks were good. The food got mixed reviews, but I'm not docking points just because one person didn't like the crab rangoons. Overall, this is a great venue to grab a quick drink while bar crawling on Mill. The atmosphere and menu make it worth a stop for sure. Also great for larger groups if you reserve a table (up to six or eight people)! Lots of drink variety. read more

Fun speakeasy hidden inside Filthy Animal! Snagged a table here after dinner with some girlfriends. It's a cute spot with good vibes. Easy to make reservations with the front if you didn't do it ahead of time. We ate at Filthy Animal first then decided to grab a drink after. I tried the "viral" one and really enjoyed it - especially refreshing for Summer! I think the manager came to talk to us about the disco ball? He seemed friendly and checked on us to make sure we were having a good time. read more

We were wandering around Tempe when we stumbled upon this speakeasy. We didn't have a reservation, but we showed up right when they opened and got seated right away. It filled up fast! Our host was super helpful with picking out drinks, and the bar had great vibes and a really fun ambiance. It looks like they have a DJ on some nights, but the booth was empty when we went. 10 out of 10! First off, noting the location as this is inside Filthy Animal, which hoping to try their menu on next visit. When the hostess brings you back you get the total vibe of going somewhere special. Once in the room is this beautiful structured and decorated art deco look. Definitely feel transported somewhere far off Mill. The staff was amazing and attentive at the bar. Not afraid to chat it up while handling the bar. The apps were delicious as well. I'd say they could set up the Korean inspired chicken tenders, outside of that though everything tasted great. We will be back and definitely worth the tease to the main restaurant. read more

First of all, I love the name of this speakeasy. We were able to drop in after a fabulous meal at Filthy Animal. It's iconic, 70s theme with comfy seating, and a giant disco ball. Great music was playing, it can get a little loud with certain songs. The bartenders were so kind and I had one of the most delicious and unique black manhattans ever.Such a great spot worth a visit if you are able to. This is also an option for some bites,which I love. read more

I'm a big fan of architectural designer Peter Max's creations (who is also behind the beautiful spaces at Carry On, Wren & Wolf or Filthy Animal in the Valley), and I already knew I'd think this speakeasy would be beautiful and sophisticated. A classy 70s-inspired cocktail lounge is maybe a bit out of place on Mill Ave, but that is a good thing! The speakeasy is affixed to the restaurant Filthy Animal (which I highly recommend for a good meal beforehand!) Service was friendly. The drinks were delicious. There are small bites on the menu as well. They have a DJ. I haven't yet decided how I feel about the music and how well it fit the theme, but it was played at a reasonable level and I was able to carry a conversation. I did not know this when I visited, but I've since learned that they do validate parking, and have valet as well if you prefer. From their website: "Enjoy complimentary valet every Thursday through Saturday at 7th St. and Mill Ave, in front of the AMC Centerpoint 11 Theater (730 S Mill Ave, Tempe, AZ 85281) Sunday through Wednesday, head to the Chase Parking Garage at University & Ash. Love, love, LOVE this spot. Wouldn't consider it a 'speakeasy' since someone is sitting outside waiting to seat you, but the cocktails and service were amazing. Aubrey the bartender gave me the best recommendations. She truly did not stear me wrong. The Mega Viral was delicious. Reccomended on the sweeter side and did not disappoint. Fabulous side view completely entrancing the appetizers were the perfect fit next to the perfect cocktail. My birthday was celebrated by all here with a smile and a welcome open reception by the most lovely crew of attentive and pleasant hosts and tenders of the bar I've met this side of Tempe. We were doing a birthday bar crawl yesterday and found our way into this cute 70's inspired Speakeasy. Isabelle cared for us like she had known us forever, including answering questions and giving her opinions about the cocktails with patience and grace. I was getting a little tired, so I ordered an espresso martini and even though Isabelle had forewarned me that it is not your typical cocktail, as it is clarified, I ordered it anyway and ended up not caring for it. I was just going to drink it, but she could tell that I wasn't a fan and let the bartender, Michael, know and he immediately came over, insisting that he make something that I would enjoy. He actually left the speakeasy and went next-door to get ingredients and came back and made me the best espresso martini I've ever had. Most people can pour or serve a drink, but not just anyone can have that kind of customer service. The kind that makes your guest feel like they are the most important person in the room. I loved their energy and I loved the oysters! Looking forward to our next visit. read more

Walked in without a reservation and after a short wait we were escorted to the back. Very cool 70's vibe, but music is 60's-80's. Space is tight and you can not help but to hear others conversations. Our server was not completely familiar with the menu, which is disappointing. Drink prices were similar to other Cocktail bars. Drinks we good, but the pours were light in my opinion. The real question- would I go back. Likely, but with lower expectations.. read more

Such a great speakeasy hidden inside Filthy Animal with a 70s disco vibe. Disco balls illuminate the ceiling and wooden paneling ordains the walls as djs mix up danceable beats. Once inside, the cocktail menu is exclusive to DDG and everything is curated meticulously crafted behind the bar. It really does make you feel like this is what a cocktail lounge in the 70s would be like. read more

Oh my goodness.... Well let me start off by saying that the owner never disappoints when coming up with these restaurant concepts! We were greeted by the very friendly hostess's and brought back by the kitchen into such a 70's vibe! I love the decor, the staffs outfit and the music was perfect! It all came together like a perfect concoction. We sat at the bar area and the bartenders were so friendly and very, very attentive! The drinks were delish!! The flavors were on point! I forgot the name of the gentleman at the bar, he had glasses on and a brown coat I think he was the bar manager. He gave exemplary service and explained everything about the restaurant. I will definitely be coming back for my bachelorette dinner to try the food. read more

A Wow experience. If you are looking for a laid back atmosphere with wonderful service, Drop Dead Gorgeous is the place to go. Beth was our host and she was stellar with recommendations and service. She made top tier cocktails with flavors unimaginable. The drinks are different from Filthy Animal which was a nice twist. Safe to advise, I'll be a returning customer. Tucked inside Filthy Animal is Drop Dead Gorgeous. The vibe is dark and moody in this speak easy with a DJ tucked away in this art deco inspired lounge. The menu has a decent range from oysters on the half shell to mini hotdogs. The cocktails are the star of the show and pair well with the menu offerings. Consider it as an option for getting a small group together for a drink before heading out to an event or as an option for an intimate date. Either way you will feel yourself slowing down and enjoying the conversation while the service team makes you feel like you are their only patron. Enjoy the vibe! read more

After reading other reviews, I was hesitant about this bar, but I still wanted to give it a shot since we were already dining at Filthy Animal (which was terrific, by the way!) Unfortunately, as other reviews have indicated, this place fell short and was a bit of a disappointment. They prefer that you order drinks from their special menu, and even then, you cannot make any adjustments to the drinks because we were told they are pre-batched. Outside of that, the interior was a lot smaller than I anticipated, and it was bright enough that it looked and felt a bit dirty inside. Overall, we ended up paying before we received our drinks and left before finishing them. read more

Tempe is now part of an exclusive list of cities that boast somewhere you can get a fancy-a** cheesestick, and it is undoubtedly worth it. I highly recommend starting the night with Drop Dead Gorgeous and then going to Filthy Animal for dinner afterward. Had a nice time here on a Saturday night. Had to make reservations and they will charge you $20 per person if you cancel within 24 hours which sucks because my date canceled with the flu the morning of so I had to go by myself or risk getting charged $40. All good, I get it. I decided to go check it out on my own. Went in at 8:30pm on a Saturday night, Filthy animal the restaurant that DDG is inside was packed. Really well done interior to the restaurant and the hostess team ushered me back to the speakeasy style bar. Wow, what a beautiful spot. I loved the lighting and the overall vibe of this quaint cocktail bar. It felt very 70s and the retro vibe went all the way down to the servers and bartenders attire. Good music and ambience equals a good start for me. Ordered my first cocktail and they were out of it, no big deal I'll choose something else. Had the cocktail named something "Viral". It was a delicious egg white, rum and melon based cocktail and the foam went up over the glass. Really well done and balanced. I chose another cocktail that was more spiritous and had bourbon and black walnut bitter. Also delicious and well balanced. Struck up a conversation with some people next to me and they bought me a lemon drop based cocktail which was also great. I had 90 min max on my reservation so I had to bounce just when things were getting in the groove for me but I get it. They gotta make their money too. All in all, the two drinks cost me $33 plus tip and it was totally worth it. I will be back. read more

The most recent was…read moreon a Thursday night around 10:30 p.m. This speakeasy is located on Mill Ave., the center of Tempe's party scene. Because of its location, parking isn't easy. If you're looking for free parking, you're going to have a long walk. Outside of that, you'll have to pay for parking in a garage or metered street parking. Ambiance (4/5): Hint hint. Idle Hands is located inside Devil's Hideaway. A true speakeasy shouldn't have signage outside indicating its location. Unfortunately, there's a sign for Idle Hands outside of Devil's Hideaway which takes away the sense of mystery and intrigue that a true speakeasy provides. Outside of this hiccup, it's a cool speakeasy. It's intimate, with 10 or so seats at the bar and about 10 seats in booths facing the bar. There's a projector screen behind the bar that had mystical motion graphics the first time I stopped by (thinking wizards) and Halloween motion graphics the second time (with it being a day before the holiday). There were some other Halloween decorations up. The only area of improvement? The music often doesn't match the vibe. A lot of the music they were playing on my last visit was Irish music that would be fitting for a pub. Service (4/5): I had the same bartender each time. He knows how to make a good drink and is pretty efficient. When you close out, he only gives you the merchant copy. Which is a pet peeve of mine. Let me get that customer copy too. But overall, a good experience. Especially at a college bar. Food (N/A): I've only had drinks both times. Idle Hands actually doesn't have food, but Devil's Hideaway does. And you're allowed to bring food from there into the speakeasy. Drinks (4.5/5): It's pretty surprising to see a speakeasy on a college campus. I was impressed with the creativity of the menu, both in terms of the ingredients used and the fusion of flavors. I've had a different cocktail each time, and they've all been great. My favorite was one served in a box filled with smoke. Talk about a cool presentation! The hallmarks of a solid speakeasy are elevated cocktails, nice ambiance (dimly lit), an intimate space, and mystery/intrigue. While the intrigue is lacking at Idle Hands, and the music can be improved, they hit it out of the park in the other areas. One of my favorite speakeasies I've been to in Phoenix (and surrounding areas). I am, after all, the self-appointed king of speakeasies. The king gives his stamp of approval.

I got the frozen margarita and it was a bit sweet, but nice for the summer evening. Our server wasn't super attentive, but was nice whenever they came around. There's a sampler entree platter I'd like to try, but of all the appetizers we tried, the best was probably the chips with guacamole and salsa.

She actually didn't do anything other than take our order - different people had brought our food/drinks. The manager (we didn't know he was the manager at the time) brought out our food and asked us if we needed anything/was very nice. At the end of the meal we spoke with him again to thank him for his attentiveness. We had expressed our concern with the experience and he was respectful about the feedback. He ended up comping our bottle of wine that we got. The food was yummy, I really liked the sauce that came with the fries idek what it was called but it was amazing. I had the chicken sandwich which was very yummy and perfect size.

This was such a disappointment we were so excited to go and made a reservation that we were early to there is a late fee at $22 A PERSON but after checking in we waited 30 minutes passed our scheduled time there were people without reservations being seated before us once we were in we were sat in the back where we noticed there were 7 empty tables so the wait was pointless it seemed they sat people who were less important in the back as well seeing as most tables hardly received service the waitress came by for our order and when the drinks arrived we didn't see her again for a whole hour when we were ready to leave we had to stop her on her way passed us told her we were done and she said ok then walked away again so we had to stop her a second time and tell her we were leaving immediately and wanted the check which she carried a hand held POS so there was no reason she couldn't do that the first time she was very rude as well I was shocked that she talked back to us when we said we were leaving now and told her we were dissatisfied with the service the tables were wobbly and set awful it was so loud in there and all around disappointing when leaving we were mocked my kitchen staff for saying it was a bad experience I will highly discourage people from coming here read more

Drop Dead Gorgeous is a stylish little speakeasy with a lot of visual charm. It's beautifully decorated, with a fun, moody atmosphere that makes it feel like a hidden gem. The staff was friendly, and the manager was super kind and welcoming, which we really appreciated. That said, as much as I wanted to love this place, I have to be honest--the drinks were awful. I didn't enjoy a single cocktail I ordered. Nothing was well-crafted or flavorful, and it was honestly disappointing considering how great the setting is. For a place that presents itself as a cocktail bar, the drinks just completely missed the mark. We went on a Friday night, and they had a live DJ, which created a really nice vibe. If you're going with friends to celebrate a birthday or just hang out, it's a fun and visually appealing spot to gather. But if you're looking for quality cocktails, this isn't the place. We actually left and went to Filthy Animal afterward, where the drinks were so much better. So while I love the look and feel of Drop Dead Gorgeous and the energy on a weekend night, I wouldn't recommend it for the cocktails alone. Go for the vibe, not the drinks. read more

Walking into Drop Dead Gorgeous feels like stepping straight into a scene from The Great Gatsby. It's all glitz, velvet, and a touch of wild, roaring '20s decadence. The lighting is low, the disco balls are high, and you half expect to spot Gatsby himself brooding in a corner with a coupe glass in hand. I ordered the Primrose Martini, which was delicate, floral, and just the right amount of sweet. It looked prettier than it tasted, but still totally sip-worthy and perfect for a night of glam. My friends had the Appletini, and theirs packed a bright, nostalgic flavor that reminded us of candy from childhood, but with a grown-up twist. The service was great. The vibe, the experience, and the cocktails at Drop Dead Gorgeous are a solid 10 out of 10. The atmosphere alone makes it worth a visit and the drinks are top-notch.
