Food not spectacular and portions were tiny for $20. Patio was above average and music was eclectic and appreciated. Service slow.

We've wanted to come here for a really long time ever since we walked past this place when we went to check out the cool graffiti alley. The live music and the unusual name caught our eye. It's an Eastern European bar serving alcohols and food traditional to that part of the world. The menu is unique - something I've never seen in too many places. So you get that authenticity right from the start. The alcohols (rakija) look like they're reasonable (like $5, $7) but they're served in tiny quantities but super concentrated. So you can down it quickly (although not recommended) and keep getting more. The food is really good too. I had their cracked wheat with mushroom starter and my husband got beef swekers. Both of us enjoyed our food thoroughly. It felt like a very hearty meal. Again, the food, like alcohol, doesn't feel expensive but the quantities are also on the smaller side. The best part of Drom is the atmosphere and the live music. They had two amazing bands the night we were there. They request that you donate and almost guilt you into doing so but as a place that doesn't charge cover for such good music, it's not a bad idea to support local talent. We loved the atmosphere - it was so vibrant! No wonder they are always busy and have a wait. Luckily we didn't have to wait because we went early on a Saturday and we were in a bigger group but for a party of two, we saw that the wait is longer and it can be tricky snagging a table. We will be back to try more of the Eastern European alcohols and more fun music.

The place is trendy and hipster and I really wanted to like it from the moment I stepped in. People are friendly, the decor is very cool, and cocktail names are hilarious. However, the music wasn't great and the food left a lot to be desired. We had pierogis, borscht, chicken skewers, and goulash, all were quite mediocre. I have many friends who like Drom, so maybe we were just unlucky with our visit. Well, we will try to give it another try in summer and update this review if we like it better this time.

Was here for the live music and the food was just amazing. Generous portions and very tasty. The service was attentive but not overly so. Love the concept of bringing in world music. Will definitely be back!

THE BASICS We've been huge fans of Drom Taberna from the day they opened and want to find a way to support them during the Covid lockdown. Drom is the sister restaurant to La Palette, Queen Street West's fixture (and best, IOHO) French bistro. Drom has quickly established a well-deserved notoriety for it's genuine underground culture vibe, delicious affordable Eastern European food (best enjoyed on their great patio lockdowns permitting) and, of course, the spectacular live music. We're always a little nervous about ordering takeout from restaurants that have always focused on dine in, but in this case we needn't have worried. Drom Taberna's food is, as it turns out, perfect for delivery; everything travels well and reheats beautifully. THE SERVICE While it may seem odd to include comments on service for a delivery meal we beg to differ. Good service is good service, no matter what the circumstances, and in this case the folks at Drom Taberna were super helpful in helping us place an order. We called two days in advance and asked them to put together a menu to celebrate a special evening at home for under $100. They put together a lovely meal on budget, and delivered it precisely on time and with good humour. We couldn't have been more happy with the end-to-end service. THE FOOD (*Note: all prices are before 13% HST) The menu is a mix of Eastern European and Balkan fare. It's all very sharable and really suits a casual evening of grazing with a loved one. In an ideal world (read: pre-pandemic) it's great food to share with friends while listening to music and indulging in a few (OK, maybe many! lol) drinks. Goulash - This is possibly the best goulash we have ever had, rivalling our previous "best ever" - a platter of heavenly goulash we devoured at a renowned Hungarian restaurant in Warsaw. Goulash is a rich, flavour-packed meat stew with vegetables. The main flavor profile is Hungry's famous paprika. This is great cool weather noshing, and all-season comfort food. We mop up every drop of the rich sauce at the end, leaving our plates spotless before they hit the dishwasher. Pro tip: for two people order the large portion and save a little bit for breakfast. This goulash with runny yolk, fried egg is outrageous (it would be awesome with a poached egg as well). $16.95 (half portion for $10.17). Ćevapi - Full disclosure; we're addicted to these. They are wonderfully grilled Bosnian beef and veal kabobs bursting with juicy flavour. Tuck one into some of the bread they provide, top it with the red pepper relish (ajvar) and the cream cheese sauce (kajmak), then add a generous amount of the paper-thin slices of onion they provide, and enjoy the mouth pleasure! 5 pcs. $13.56; 10 pcs. $23.56 - worth every penny! Mushrooms - Eastern European cuisine is famous for its mastery of all things mushrooms. These king oyster and cremini mushrooms were cooked with garlic, onions, kale and herbs, all tossed in a delicious green adjika sauce. This is a dish full of deep flavours - umami for days, as we've described it to friends. $15.85 Potato - these pan roasted fingerling potatoes are a thing of beauty. Cooked with garlic butter and green adjika they have a creamy texture that seemed to melt in the mouth. They were so good that we broke our long-standing rule about keeping some fingerlings for next day pan frying (trust us, this is a good rule) and just devoured them all at our evening sitting. Rule breaking can be sooo satisfying. $7.91 Burek - we've had some disappointing burek in the past, but this one was absolutely delicious. This dish is similar to spanakopita: buttery and flaky pastry filled with spinach and feta. It was the best one we've had! ($10.17) Just a note for those fans of Pierogi (we know you're out there). We didn't have them as part of this meal, but have had them when dine-in was an option. Because of the Polish heritage of one half of our dynamic duo people ask us to comment on pierogi all the time, so we're weighing in on this one. To be honest, this is the only dish on Drom Taberna's menus that we would not order again. While the cheese and potato filling is just right, they came coated in rosemary breadcrumbs, which we weren't fans of. That's just a matter of personal preference, we're sure others would try this and enjoy them. THE BOOZE Misha - Drom Taberna's face to the world - has been creating his own vodka infusions. They're delicious. We enjoyed one flavoured with clementines and bitters. It made for a perfect digestivo for two. Perhaps fittingly we've forgotten the price of the booze on this night - oops! THE PRICE We've listed prices for all the dishes so will summarize by saying that Drom Taberna's prices are very reasonable, particularly in light of the quality and quantity of food that you get in each order. Our entire meal came in at under $100 (mystery priced booze, HST and delivery included). Great value for money!

Keep adding photos because I keep returning and trying new items! Some new drinks (a cocktail made with a plum liqueur, I believe) and food (Bosnian meatballs to share). I stayed for a full afternoon to listen to three different artists - one bossa nova, one big band, one more popular brand bass - all of which were great in their own way.

Ambiance: A bit run down, but has some charm to it. lots of interesting posters around the place. Food: (4 stars) Chevaps are amazing! The goulash potine iz sub par. Will come here for the food!

    Beet salad
    Lisa O.

At Drom Taberna, I was able to satisfy my cravings and had some European dishes. I was able to try here the cabbage rolls, cevapi (kebabs), beet salad and goulash poutine. The cabbage rolls was my favourite here. Seasoned well, great texture while the kebabs were a great hit. Reasonable portions with a great sauce to dip in! The beet salad was simple but flavourful, nothing unique, and lastly the poutine was average. This dish did have a crunch, however the meat ratio was more than the fries so I couldn't enjoy the combination together properly. * Overall, I'd recommend those looking to try European food, to visit here. There was a live band playing in the background which made it quite nice. However I should mention that the patio (at least the section I sat in) was not heated at all! There were a few heaters spread out however it didn't help with the coldness, or some of them weren't on. Also, reservations are highly recommended. Russian Done Right!!!…read more Being no stranger to the Russian community, as I have many Russian friends from all over Russia, and have been to Russian weddings, barbecues, other events and have eaten many traditional dinners at the homes of my friends. I have heard about Arbat from many of my friends over the years and heard such great things about it, sadly I have never eaten there before. Well, I finally got my chance as I was invited to a wedding at Arbat!!. Arbat is located near Dufferin and Center Street right near the famous Concord Foods Grocery store, a landmark in the area. It is a restaurant and an event space for banquets and weddings. It's a little on the smaller side for an event space but our group was easily accommodated. There is live music and karaoke on certain nights and the singers although Russian can and will sing in English and sing English songs ( just ask ). There are set menus for the regular diners and its charged by the type of food and the amount of guests. When the food started coming out, you tell right away who was familiar with Russian food and cuisine and who was not, as they started bringing course after course after course. Some of the guests were full after the first two courses since they didn't realize the main courses had yet to be served. I sampled as many of the delicacies as I could patiently waiting for the main courses to arrive. Every dish that was brought was made to a very high standard with fresh ingredients and high-quality cuts of meat, fish and seafood. The kid's meals were very good as well, although they were full by the time their meals came out my kids said their food was really good. We had a great time, listened to such great music and now I want to go back for dinner. Any takers?

Great restaurant, hosted our private event! Good food, beautiful venue and great service.read more

Digby Scallops with Leek Terrine: Id reccomend passing on this one. This dish consists of scallops, wrapped in leek terrine, topped with some caviar and served cold. The scallops were wonderful, and the caviar was quality. However, the leek terrine was not to my liking. It was far too fibrous and masked the other components. Stuffed Rabbit Saddle: A vast improvement over the terrine. The rabbit alongaide the sauce was bursting with flavor. My one complaint was that the rabbit meat was very lean, and the meat was almost taut. The foie gras helped even out the dish, and was the highlight for me. Dressed Beets: A wondeful partner to the ribeye. The beets were slightly sweet and refreshing. The beets provided a satisfying bite that was perfect with the softer squash. Having some of this as a palate cleanser in-between the ribeye was a killer combo. 30 Day Aged Ribeye: A beautiful cut of steak. The meat was cooked perfectly, the crust was just right, wonderfully salted, and the butter was phenomenal. Honey Cake: I enjoyed this dessert, but it wasn't very cake-like. Visually it looks more like a crepe cake. But texturally it gives custard or cream. Its a delicate flavor that is only slightly honey. The honey cream that comes with it is also very good.

I hope people don't take this seriously as he has just one review. Speaks volumes about his Russian restaurant experiences... Just FYI I have been to over 15 different Russian Restaurants, including 2 more in Los Angeles. Let's do this review right and give an amazing place justice. THIS IS THE RUSSIAN RESTAURANT RIGHT NOW. THE PLACE. ASK ANY SINGLE EASTERN EUROPEAN BAKERY IN NORTH YORK/TORONTO and they will tell you wow, everyone is going to Tatiana. We had to reserve our Saturday night 3 months in advance. People from Hamilton, St Cathrines, Pickering, Ajax, Mississauga -everyone is trying to get into this restaurant. Why? You need to understand the nature of RR (let's just go with this for Russian Restaurant(s) from now on). It's an extremely difficult and restless business - you need to be working 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. RR management and names and chefs change weekly if not every other 4 days. So, if you go to one RR and you LOVE it and go back the next week you may not find that you have the same food or the same service. Russian people drink and they dance. This is what RR is about. Don't come here with expectations of a friggin steak house on King St, what is wrong with you? It's an EVENT. It's a BANQUET HALL. People come here to wear their beautiful suits and dresses, to meet with their best friends, to drink and to eat amazing food. I've had bad food experiences with RRs but this one is great I have no complaints about the food AT ALL. (except for the holodets, anyone who's Russian will know and will understand that no one ever likes or eats it at RRs...) So. About the service. Have you ever seen Orange is the New Black? Tatiana is Red. She's not rude. She is not mean. She is extremely helpful, she is nice, she is stressed out but she is organized to the tits and she will get sh*t done and FAST. If she tells you how many people don't go hmmm...welll....i was thinking... NO. NO! TELL HER HOW MANY GODDAMN PEOPLE AND MOVE ON. If she tell you come at 8 do not come at 7. She will say what the F are you doing here. Because this is business and ain't nobody got time for your indecisiveness. Tatiana also has one of the best RR websites out there - with a full menu available online. Booze: bring your own. to the other reviewer person - are you friggin kidding me? Where else can you get a 2L bottle of wine for $12 bucks (LCBO) and a 7 course dinner with caviar, seafood, lamb, traditional Georgian food (that's hella hard to make), huge marinated oyster mushrooms, kebabs, etc for $65+10% tip and tax. HELLO. WHAT PLANET DO YOU LIVE ON. Also, $65+tip is the weekend night price. Weekday nights and brunch are much cheaper and much quieter with no sacrifice in quality. Food: i posted some legit pictures. White fish fillet stuffed with crab and baked with cheese, smoked salmon, marinated mushrooms, grilled pepers artichokes zucchini and asparagus, roasted potatoes, pate, 5+ different kinds of salads, cold cuts including chicken with apricot INSIDE (yeah.). stuffed eggplants, prosciutto with melon, chicken salads, red caviar, rice, chicken lamb and minced meat kebabs, mussels and shrimp sauteed in some kind of cheese tomato sauce, i could go on for days. you get the point, there is something for EVERYONNEEE and it's impossible to list everything I ate there. Service: Fast, attentive, cute and funny. We even gave our servers one of my mom's 50th birthday bouquets because she was sooo cute. Entertainment: Saxophone dude - you're so cute and your voice is like an Angel's. Also, those sax skills...wooow. The girl, i wish i knew your name, thank you for singing that Ukrainian song in support of our motherland. GO HOME PUTIN. Decor: Lovely. The table pieces were tasteful and charming, I love the table set up and there was plenty of room. TIP #1: Bring your own wine. There's no corking fee. TIP #2: Ask them to pack up whatever is left over! They have boxes, it's allowed and you can eat delicious resto food for a whole week! TIP #3: Dance. Enjoy yourself.
