During this pandemic, I gravitate towards making and eating foods that are comforting to me. Although I am not Eastern European, I do love the cuisine. It's a combination of my living in Winnipeg, where I had amazing Ukrainian food, and having khinkali (Georgian dumplings) and more over a year ago. I miss going to Bravo Bistro, which is an eatery steps away from the office where I work. It offers cabbage rolls, perogies, and more that I love. It seems like eons ago when I was last was at the office. Anyway, I was running errands like I typically do on a Saturday. I needed to grab some lunch, did a search on my Ritual app, and found Moldova Restaurant. It has khinkali. Yay! I originally ordered the khachapuri (it's essentially a cheese pizza with an egg on top). A few minutes later, I was notified that it was out of stock. I was sad. Perhaps pouty. Who could tell behind a mask? Ritual is good in that it gave me 15% off my next order. Well, I took full advantage of that deal by changing my order up in less than five minutes. I got these items instead: - Khinkali with buckwheat as a side - Cabbage rolls - Honey cake My order would be ready in fifteen minutes, according to the app. I took my time leisurely driving over to the restaurant from shopping at Giant Tiger in Etobicoke. Moldova Restaurant is on Dufferin Avenue, a few streets south of Steeles Avenue West, on the southwest side. This restaurant is in an area with tons of parking. It was quiet on a Saturday afternoon. I backed into a parking spot and went in. There is patio dining. No one was dining. I headed over to the bar. Although it said that my order was ready on the app, it wasn't. The nice gentleman said that one more item needed a few more minutes. He offered to come to my car and deliver my food. I was game. I headed back to my car and waited. The wait wasn't long. It was roughly five minutes. He came over to the passenger side. I rolled down my window. He placed two plastic bags containing my food on the floor and was wearing a mask. One had my dessert, including ice cream. What?! I didn't realize that it came with ice cream. Yay! I thanked the nice man and made sure my food was protected before I drove off like a crazy woman to avoid having melted ice cream. Nah, the crazy driving part didn't happen. I simply dreaded the thought of having melted ice cream by the time I got home. I was ready to eat lunch at 5 pm. Yeah, my lunch time is becoming an early dinner on Saturdays as the months go by. Everything was nicely packed. I was pleased. I had the cabbage rolls first. There were four of them with tomato sauce over them. They were so good. Each one had ground beef and rice in them. The cabbage leaves were tender, but not mushy. The filling was flavourful and not overly salty. The tomato sauce was bright. Yum! I then opened the box of khinkali. There were four of them. They looked Georgian to me. I was so happy. I carved into one. The filling seemed to be a mix of pork and beef. It was generous. The khinkali were delicious. The dough was perfect. The filling was spiced well. They were juicy and done right. I was curious about buckwheat as a side. I've had buckwheat in pancakes and soba noodles. I didn't know what to expect. Well, the buckwheat was seasoned with parsley and salt. I enjoyed it a lot. I had so much left over that I ate it with a side of corn the next day and loved the combination. Buckwheat is yummy in my books, and a nice alternative to potatoes or rice. I love honey cake. I automatically said yes to it when I saw the menu on Ritual. The layers were impressive. It was yummy. It could have been more moist cake-wise, though. Still, the wasn't overly sweet, which I appreciated. It came with three scoops of vanilla ice cream, which did not become ice cream soup in this heatwave. The caramel drizzle make me think that two of the scoops were faces looking at me... haha! The ice cream definitely balanced out the slightly drier cake. I would have given this place five stars if it hadn't run out of khachapuri. It just means that I need to return to this eatery and order it again. Hopefully, my luck is better on that front. I loved my food here. It's a hidden gem that I wasn't aware of. Thank goodness I found it on Ritual. (212)

Borsh was not fresh and discussing

Mediocre food, service is horrible. Got a borsh soup which was not fresh you can see it in the picture. Salad was not fresh eather, could smell that it was in the fridge for a LONG time. And in the end they gave us wrong bill! CHECK YOUR BILL! Never coming back!

Recently went back to try more of their options because of how much I loved the food and experience the first time. This time I tried the fried Georgian dumplings (fried khinkali). The ones I had were stuffed with lamb, but they also offered beef, cheese, and mushroom options. They were absolutely delicious: well seasoned, and cooked perfectly. The service was also just as friendly as before. This place is one of my new go-to's for sure!

Borsch, chicken soup zeama, avocado salad (more avocado please!), humus with pita (complimentary). Also ordered pork ribs with coleslaw

Washrooms could be cleaner but overall pretty good! Try their 'Armenia' wine with pomegranate. It's divine!

    Georgian Dumplings were delicious

My friend and I came in for lunch, and we've never had Eastern European food. We were both impressed! The portion sizes were large, and worth the price. I had the lamb shish kebab, it was tender and seasoned very well. The Georgian Dumplings my friend and I shared were my favourite part. I've never seen dumplings this large, and the flavour was incredible! Would come back just for those.

    Lamb Chops were soooo good!!!!!

All religious organisations should follow suit! Anyway, just follow the signs that lead into a room that has a counter with chafing dishes and some industrial sized fridges. Someone actually approached me, asked if it was my first time, and helped me to order! P.S. He also tried to upsell me, so that guy was doing his job. In comparison to dining out, prices are quite reasonable. A dozen pierogies were ~$8, a tall plastic container of soup was $6, $10 for 8 smallish, but adequate sized cabbage rolls, etc. Menu is also online, so you can call ahead! With the exception of the baked goods, everything else is made on-site. Soup was really tasty and garlicky! It only had goosha of beets. Rice/pork cabbage rolls were REALLY good. There were other kinds available as well. They also stamp a loyalty card with each purchase and when it's full, you get some bonus pierogies. I'd definitely go back to try some other EE specialties! Btw, it's takeout only. So no place to sit. Service was nice, but more "relaxed". Lady in front of me was ordering a feast!

The decor is horrendous with the banquet hall chair covers pompously hanging over beat up chairs, and equally pompous synthetic linen. The service is like it was in the 80s in Russia: insincere and clueless. I was quite happy that there was no music -- I could actually enjoy a conversation. I'd return there for the food.

The staff kindly brewed a fresh coffee right before my eyes which was a nice touch. Before ordering the perogies I might add that I had asked her how many and how big they were considering I was paying around $7.00 for one serving, which was a little steep if you ask me. Well she said it would be average size and I believed it until I opened it up later to find that infact they were HALF the size of any perogy I have ever seen in my life and 3x more greasy! I am shocked, and insulted as a Ukrainian myself and growing up with the food this was a poor excuse. The whole place was tacky and an attempt wad made to appear fancy but that was a genuine fail. I'm actually sorry to write this but its true.

I got Ready to eat (take out) - Potato and Cheddar Cheese Perogy - Sauerkraut and Mushroom Perogy Frozen - Potato and Cheddar Cheese Perogy - Sauerkraut and Mushroom Perogy - Mushroom Vushka The take out perogies were great, especially the potato & cheddar one. I am not a fan of potato & cheddar cheese perogies - and I wanted to try their potato & cottage cheese one. But they were sold-out when I was here. It was around 4:30pm. So, I got the potato & cheddar. But surprisingly the potato & cheddar tasted great! Right saltiness. They bring out the best of potato flavor, fluffy yet creamy texture, with a hint of cheddar cheese - oh they were sooooo good. I felt that the sauerkraut and mushroom one was a bit too sour for my liking. I wished for more mushroom flavor in it as well. But the wrapper itself had character, natural, chewy and soft. Nothing goes wrong with this wrapper! Frozen perogies were a bit tricky. Unlike other store bought frozen perogies, they came in tin-foil container, and it instructs to heat in the oven n 20-25 mins. One container had 12 pcs, which is too much for my household (2 persons). I tried to boil a few, which turned out to be flabby leaking perogies. Then I tried to fry a few, adding a bit of water. Which was a huge success! Most impressive was Mushroom Vushka. Full of Mushroom flavor enclosed in this tasty wrapper. Addictive. I should come back for this again. I liked this place a lot, humble and truly tasty! Cannot wait to try more food here!

I enjoyed the smoked meat pieces that were added in. The garlicy buns that came with it were nice and fluffy and delicious. 4.5/5 - Family meat platter with buckwheat and sauerkraut sides: a hefty platter. Nice smoked flavour in a lot of the meats. Everything was juicy and well seasoned. There was enough variety so it didn't feel redundant or monotonous. Usually I am intimidated by blood sausage, but this one was delicious. Does not have a very strong iron flavour, it is moreso umami and meaty. One platter can feed a family of 4 no problem. Sides were well portioned. 5/5 - Sour cherry varenyky: the dough felt a bit thick to me, and I would have loved more sour cherry on top rather than the maraschino cherries. The maraschino cherries are very sweet and pack a different flavour punch, which draws the attention away from the sour cherry filling. 3/5 - Kvas: delicious rye bread flavoured, non-alcoholic beverage. The flavour was rich enough and not too sweet. Makes for a perfect meat and bread combo. 5/5
