Schnitzel with fries
HaKim N.

Loved the food here! The place is spacious and has a beautiful patio. Service was fast and food came out equally fast and hot. Each main came with a choice of rice, mash, fries. I recommend the stroganoff for sure. Would visit again to try their desserts.

chicken tabaka and lamb shashlik, both are mad delicious

so this place has most of its employees from the old Moldova resto on dufferin. The old Moldova resto was fire, hence this one is fyre. I love russian food, this spot does a very good job. Interior pretty dope too. A little pricey, but what isn't these days. New fav russian spot in Toronto to sho

Royal Ukha (fish soup with salmon) - small size

Great restaurant for Russian / Moldovan / Romanian food. Nice and clean interior with big tables and ample seating. Food is as expected - good selection, hearty, comforting, and delicious. All the main dishes come with a choice of sides (rice, buckwheat / kasha, French fries, or mashed potatoes). You can upgrade to crispy potatoes with garlic or grilled vegetables for additional fee. 1) Country Salad - Big plate of sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, and radishes, topped with dill and a light touch of olive oil 2) Royal Ukha - This rustic Russian fish soup with salmon was quite flavourful and soothing. The small size only had a few pieces of salmon in it and not a lot of vegetables, but the broth is pretty good (reminded me of chicken soup broth). 3) Salmon Skewer - Pretty big skewer with big chunks of salmon. 4) Grilled Sea Bream - Whole sea bream (dorado) cooked over charcoal. Fish meat was very soft and tender. It was cooked to perfection. 5) Crispy Potatoes with Garlic - Reminded me of the crispy potatoes they usually serve at breakfast diners / brunch restaurants. 6) Grilled Vegetables - Great side to go with any dish, but I wish they put a bit less of the brown seasoning and I wish the vegetables were a bit more crisp (and not as soft / limpy). But good portion for a side.

Smoked herring and pickled onions with side of potatoes with dill

Got the herring as an appetizer. It was very good! It was smoked and did not taste fishy. The side of potatoes were good - they were only seasoned with some salt and dill but I liked that the flavour was subtle since the fish was more salty. There was also a side of pickled onions and they were also surprisingly tasty. I normally dislike raw onions but these were sweet and pickley. Also tried the beef stroganoff with a side of mashed potatoes. The sauce was delicious - creamy and beefy. The beef was soft although I would prefer it a little more tender. My friend got the lamb kebab, she said she liked it but that the kebab could also be more tender.

This place serves "European" (read: Central & East European) food. You get both white & peasant brown bread. Neither is crusty & both are a bit old. The brown had a nutty flavour. Royal Ukha soup was good, with an intense savoury fish flavour, lots of dill & quite a bit of salmon chunks at the bottom. The soups are all $4.99 for a small serving & aren't a crazy portion, which makes ordering & portion control easy. Chicken Tabaka was flattened & fried in garlic & butter. It was crispy & moist. I got it with house potatoes, which were squashed & baked; interesting but basically baked potato with cheese - not worth the topup. The chicken was a touch salty & the potatoes were a touch bland so they balanced, I guess. Syrniky (cottage cheese pancakes) was so-so. It was steaming when it came & much too hot inside; it was probably microwaved. It wasn't as dense as it looked. The kompot (fruit cocktail) was rather dilute. I'd had it in 2020 before & it was much better then: a tasty fruit beverage which tasted like blackcurrant & other fruits, with a nutty edge. In 2020 I'd gotten pelmeny off the lunch menu. It was so so - no creamy mushroom sauce so it was a bit dry & a small portion even for lunch. Solianka (soup) was decent - it had quite a lot of meat & other ingredients & was quite tasty. Service here is quite... slavic.

First time here and came with a group of four. We decided to order a selection of appetizers and share. We ordered the Avocado Salad, which was very good. Also, we got Potato Vareniky, Stroganoff-Style Pelmeny, Stuffed Bell Peppers, Cabbage Rolls and the Baked Camembert. The food was just amazingly good and we all enjoyed it very much. Had a "home cooked" feel to the whole meal, which I am sure it was. The ambience is nothing to write home about and the music they were playing was loud and sounded like an old radio stuffed into a bucket. Detracted from it all a bit. I will be back here again because the food was awesome.

My husband and I went to Stroganoff for dinner and were pleasantly surprised. The food and service improved significantly since our last visit, though the prices went up. We had kcarcho soups, goat cheese salad, osso buco, and pilaf. Everything was cooked to perfection and the service was quick and friendly. The wine prices were decent too, they have good selection of house wines at $10 per glass. We will certainly be back, though, I made a mental note to make a reservation if we come for dinner on weekend - this was a weeknight and there were quite a few diners at the restaurant.

A dinner reservation is highly recommended as the first time we tried to dine here, we were turned around due to max capacity of guests. On this second attempt, we arrived at Stroganoff Restaurant ahead of our 7 p.m. booking, and when I informed the server of a reservation, she gestured to the empty restaurant as in to say basically 'take your pick'. The restaurant was so cozy with an open concept dining room. We received a basket of bread before we even ordered our food. There was white and multigrain bread with lots of butter packets and a side of slightly spicy tomato sauce. The items arrived to our table gradually. The first was the cold herring dish (Selyodka)! I still have very fond memories of eating this at Aragvi Restaurant and enjoyed this dish here too. The herring was tender and pickled and the onions were pickled too. The Selyodka was served with a generous side of boiled potatoes. The Ukrainian Borsch was delicious!! Its taste was so refreshing. The soup had lots of cabbage, potatoes, and beets in it with a dollop of sour cream. The Golubtsy (cabbage rolls) came as a portion of three with a side of sour cream. These were so delicious!! The cabbage rolls were humongous and a great appetizer for a table of six even each person were to eat one half. For us, it was more of a main dish. I loved how tender and savory and flavourful the cabbage roll was!! The meat inside the roll was so moist and succulent. This might have been the best cabbage roll I've ever had. The Mamaliga (polenta) dish came as a big "brick" with two sides of sour cream and feta cheese. The polenta was just okay since it was just plain and bland. It isn't an appetizer you want to eat on your own in my opinion -- it pairs better as a side dish. The last thing we had were the Stroganoff-Style Pelmeni (meat dumplings with mushroom sauce on it)! It arrived in the cutest little pot with a lid on it. I suggest eating this hot dish immediately when it is served because the sauce loses heat quickly and doesn't taste as good once it's cooled down (we had so many other dishes on the table already so this was left behind a bit). This was still yummy and the meat inside the dumplings was so firm. I love food like this where you can order a lot and share the different varieties . I'd love to return again and try their other dishes!

A bawl of delicious pelmeni

This is my favorite local restaurant in the area ... cozy place, superb service and the fooooood absolutely to crave for ... Pelmeni, the stroganoff salad which is like coleslaw like way better , the soups and more fresh choices from the kitchen ... wow !!!

Stroganoff-style Pelmeny - one of my favourites from what we ordered!

Came here for my mom's birthday dinner on a Friday night. Service was excellent - attentive, generous and our waitress also went above and beyond to explain to us what the dishes are and make recommendations as we aren't too familiar with this type of cuisine. Every table gets complimentary bread and this delicious red tomato- and garlic-based (I believe) dipping sauce / gravy with a bit of a kick to it (unfortunately, I'm not sure what it's called.) We loved the sauce so much that we asked if we could buy some to take home and our server gave us a full container on the house! Most importantly, the food was delicious. Very fresh and flavourful, and the portions were filling, especially for such a reasonable price - we had to pack some up and take it home as we couldn't finish it all! The standouts for all of us were the stroganoff-style pelmeny appetizer and the chicken tabaka. We also ordered the beef stroganoff and chicken schnitzel which were good too! Definitely plan to come back here again and try other dishes. Would recommend for a casual dinner in a nice atmosphere.

My dad brought my boyfriend and I here for dinner. He heard about this restaurant from a friend. It is a modernly decorated Russian restaurant. The menu is typical of other Russian restaurants I've been too. There are many options to choose from with different varieties. We came on a Wednesday and it wasn't busy. The service was great. I had the fish soup to start, rainbow trout as my main, and shared the sour cherry blinchiki. My boyfriend had the lamb shashlik. The fish soup was delicious and my main was good as well. I particularly enjoyed dessert. My boyfriend really enjoyed his lamb. Overall, I was impressed with this restaurant and the decent prices. Would definitely come back.

I always pass this plaza/restaurant at night on my way home from work and I've noticed the parking lot has been a lot more full since this place has opened and I've lived in this area for over 20 years. I finally decided to check it out and I'm glad I did. The atmosphere was relaxing and the service was excellent and very friendly. I've never been to a European restaurant before but the waiter was very kind and informative to explain the different dishes on the menu and it's popularity. All the dishes felt like it had a nice homemade taste and portions were a good size. stroganoff style pelmeni - nice cream mushroom sauce on the stuffed meat dumplings (which was full of meat) Cornish hen dish - skin was nicely seared. It had crispy outside while the meat was moist and tender Will definitely return again and will try a soup for sure. (Every single person at the other tables were drinking some kind of soup)

Before giving my 2 cents on Vizavi, I would like to explain (for the uninitiated) how the vast…read moremajority of Russian restaurants in Toronto function. Most are open for lunch and dinner and will have a menu from which you can order a meal. However, their primary source of business (and validation from the Russian community) is the "full-cover" option where the patrons order a number of seats paying a set fee (depending on the menu options and the time of day) per seat. With a full-cover, your table will be layered with dozens of dishes, with new ones added in a span of 4-6 hour. Most Russian restaurants have some live music in the evenings along with a dance floor. Although the full-cover option is available to smaller groups, it is usually utilized by larger parties. It is common for a larger group to book the entire restaurant for a wedding, a birthday party or a work function. To larger groups, the restaurant functions as a banquet hall. Most of these restaraunts serve alcohol but BYOB is a very popular option. I would recommend three basic rules you will need to follow in order to enjoy your full-cover experience: 1. There will always be more food on the table than you can enjoy at any point in time; 2. The best food usually comes later so don't over-eat earlier (see rule number 1); and 3. If there is music, don't be shy about doing a little dancing between courses (it helps burn calories). Most of the Russian restaurants offer similar dishes in their full-cover options. They are usually judged by the handful of dishes that is unique to a particular restaurant and by the quality/freshness of the food. With this in mind, here is the review of my full-cover experience at Vizavis. I have been there several times since many members of my Russian-speaking family like to book it for their birthday parties. Overall, my experience as relayed in this review has been consistent. The restaurant is a comparatively small space. A group of 30-40 people might be enough to book the entire venue. It doesn't have the tacky, over-the-top décor like faux gold high ceilings and giant chandleries (which is either good or bad depending on what you like). You won't get married here but you can have an intimate birthday party with 30 of your close friends and family. There is a decent-size dance floor and the music is pretty good, with some English and French songs mixed into the usual lineup of Russian restaurant songs. The staff is good at re-filling drinks, setting tables, replacing dishes and catering to the dozens of minor requests for new cutlery, extra napkins, etc.... With the full-cover option everyone is on the same clock and you don't have to worry about your orders being mixed up. The food is excellent. Everything is prepared fresh and you don't feel like you are eating yesterday's leftovers (which is more than I can say about some other Russian restaurants I won't name here). The braised veal ribs are fall-of-the bone delicious and the grilled meat platter served towards the end is solid. The restaurant serves some unique dishes including an avocado-mango salad, potato latkes and the house-specialty varenyky (a type of Ukrainian pierogi stuffed with strawberries). Honestly, I would go back just for the varenyky and would recommend this dish, to anyone just ordering from the menu. Overall, Vizavis is a great experience.

The restaurant is located at the corner of King Rd and Keele St. Parking was easy as you can park on the street in front of the restaurant (ofc if it is not packed) and there is also a parking lot on the other side of the road. The historic restaurant used to be an inn, now there are lots of seating with separate indoor dining areas and a lovely outdoor patio upstairs. They also have a pub downstairs with more outdoor seating. You can see a nice view of the corner street, pub outdoor seating, and the railway from the upstairs patio. We were fortunate to have a very kind and attentive server that evening. His well mannered service added to the pleasant dining experience. We ordered the Wild Mushroom salad, Herb Crusted Ontario Rack of Lambs ($59) and Chilean Sea Bass ($58). The lamb and sea bass were cooked exactly how we expected, with the sea bass especially crispy outside and soft inside. We felt the dishes were a bit pricey and could be improved like the sauce texture but overall there was plentiful portions and delicious. We enjoyed the Sea Bass and the dish's complement to it, so recommended if you want to splurge a lil! (They do have other variety on the menu to choose from.)
