Chicken schnitzel(with mustard, plum butter) coleslaw & crispy potatoes (with mensch sauce)

Love love love!! Not sure where to start! I went solo and thoroughly enjoyed my meal, but would definitely go again with friends to share plates! Service was friendly and attentive! Love the retro vibe and music was great. Food/Drink: Non-alcoholic drink with ginger beer - fantastic ! Challah bun with salted butter - delish! Chicken schnitzel with plum butter and mustard, and lemon - amazing! Crispy potatoes with mensch sauce -very good! Complimentary coleslaw - so good!! I couldn't finish the schnitzel or the potatoes so I took some home. And had no room for dessert sadly... but will definitely come back for Bubbie's cheesecake!! Everything on the menu sounds amazing!!

This restaurant is only a few months old, but it has a lot going for it, namely the location on Harbord, the lovely and attentive service and the hot challah buns with a salty butter accompaniment. The vibe is retro, with a lot of wooden accents throughout. We ordered the chicken schnitzel, cavatelli (made with chickpea), crispy potatoes, carrots, beets and bubby Rose's cheesecake. I also had the Oy Vey cocktail, which was very refreshing. The food is Jewish style, and the coleslaw accompaniment was a nice touch as well. The menu is streamlined, with only a few choices. Come here for a nice night out with friends or family and enjoy an inventive menu.

Great food, enormous portions and friendly service. Would recommend to everyone. Will come back.read more

It was our first time at the Golden Pheasant and have to say that we were impressed with the food…read more But what's more impressive, was the huge portion of their plates. The schnitzel that I ordered (Wiener Schnitzel) was enough to feed 3 people. Mine was with the potato salad that you pay an extra $2 (worth it in my opinion) or you could get it with rice and fries. It also comes with a salad. We also ordered the Potato Dumplings (Halusky) which brought memories of my trip to Slovakia a while ago. We also ordered some Pillsners Urkell to wash down our food. The schnitzel is a bit on the salty side so the Halusky, potato salad and salad provides a nice balance. The food took a very long time to arrive so that's something to be aware of. I'm not sure if it was a one off or if it's a regular occurrence. The food was worth the wait though. My advice will be to come as soon as they are open. The decor needs improvement but you are not coming here for the ambience. The food prices might seems expensive but when you compare it with the amount of food that you get, it's really not. There's parking at the back and the restaurant it's a bit lax about their opening time which is 5pm. We arrived at 5pm but needed to knock so they could open for us. It's in the same block as Dairy Cream so it was convenient for us. We did not finish our food as we were saving room for the ice cream. It's worth a visit if you are fan of schnitzels!

Spencer's at the Waterfront - Crispy Duck Leg Confit & Breast ($46)

I came on a Mon around 17:30 and stayed until 20:00 (taking photos and videos of course!). The…read morerestaurant had very few guests. Because they were not busy, the service was excellent! They even asked the sous chef to make sure the presentation was excellent; he didn't disappoint. Their menu changes seasonally. I ordered the following: 1. Coke ($). 2. Tempura Shrimp ($27). 3. Crispy Duck Leg Confit & Breast ($46). 4. Saskatoon Berry Cheesecake ($14). The Tempura Shrimp were tiger shrimp and were so plump, each about 1 inch diameter at the widest end! They were de-shelled and tempura battered. There were orange slices (orange), avocado slices (green), and chili slices (red), making the dish colourful. The Crispy Duck came with a leg and sliced breast portions. Accompanying them were tamarillo, sunchoke puree, bordelaise, dried kale chips, berry gastrique, and chopped candied pecans. All the ingredients worked well together, with mixtures of savoury and sweet tastes. The Cheesecake was amazing. The cheesecake itself was an upside-down half sphere. It was soft; I prefer that over the typical firm cake. There were miniature dried berries on top, along with a ruby chocolate sauce, and a sliced of dried red beet. Surrounding it was a soft marshmallow meringue which was lightly torched. The colour theme was red and white with a touch of dark blue. Daimon, the sous chef, plated everything expertly for me. There is plenty of indoor seating, of which one side has a view of the lake. There is lively music playing in the background. There is free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible. There are separate male/female washrooms. There is free street parking on weekends on a street running north of the restaurant. There is also a paid parking lot next to the restaurant. Returned to Spencer's at the Waterfront for brunch and was not disappointed…read more I enjoy visiting Spencer's on special occasions. At the recommendation of the service staff, I ordered the Crab Cake Egg Benedict (lemon aïoli, boston lettuce, chive hollandaise), served for weekend brunch only. Similar to my previous meals here, the food had subtle layers of flavour that came together nicely with every bite. I tend to gravitate to food that I can't get at other restaurants. The server informed us that the meal was not served on brioche like the other Egg Benedict's, but I was still full with the side salad (yeh, no arugula). My husband ordered the side fries so his belly was full. There were two crab cakes with eggs, and plenty of crab inside. I was glad that I didn't taste fillers. Service was good and we sat at a table with a waterfront view. The Sloane tea and beverages were a pricey and small for what they were, hence one of the reasons I don't come here as frequently. Overall, I enjoy the food here.
