The space felt warm and charming. Staff was attentive and friendly. * Beef tartare (off-menu): bold with layers of flavour. The pickled herring added just the right hit. * Duck liver parfait (off-menu): very creamy, buttery, and smooth. It had me saying, "Yup, we're definitely coming back." * Sweet green pea tartine: fresh but a bit too carb-heavy for me after the tartare and parfait. And the poached egg was slightly overcooked. * Fennel salad: very light. The lemon vinaigrette and the anchovy added a nice kick and umami. * Artichoke barigoule: rich, salty, creamy and tangy in all the right ways. * Strip loin steak: cooked just right to medium rare. The French onion baked potato was yum!! * Dessert was a little simple and not that special, imo. Even with a couple of dishes that didn't totally wow, the overall experience exceeded expectations so we'll definitely be back.

Only a few days left until Summerlicious ends on Friday this week. For my last @liciousto outing, I visited Maison Selby for lunch, a charming French-inspired bistro located in the 136-year-old C.H. Gooderham House. Largely inspired by the bistro & café genre, Maison Selby, by the group @oliverbonacini, celebrates timeless French cooking with a modern accent, & offers an impressive list of hand-crafted cocktails. They also have a nice patio but it was way too hot to sit outdoors. I started out with the generous sweet green peas tartine with crème fraîche on a grilled sourdough & herb salad. And of course at a French restaurant, had to get a French Onion soup Afterwards for our mains, ordered their steak hatche that came with a salad verte & well fried pommes frites. The Atlantic salmon was moist and flakey and their truffle mushroom risotto was appetizing. Finished off with their Dark Chocolate mousse & Torche Meringue Tart for desserts. Overall, a definitely a must revisit for me. My friends visited multiple times for dinner but this was their first time for lunch. It was a very enjoyable Sunday afternoon @maisonselby. Follow me #camerafirst to see where I go eat next.

Came here for summerlicious. Food is good. Friendly staff. Old historic building. Love the interior decor. Minutes from Sherbourne Stn.

Maison Selby is a great place to celebrate something special with friends and loved ones. If you plan to dine on a weekend dinner, be sure to plan ahead to make reservations as the restaurant does get busy. There is a room with the bar, and smaller tables, as well as two comfy dining rooms for a more intimate experience. Our server helped us feel welcome, and was also easy to chat with, especially when we had questions. Maison Selby has a good choice of appetizers and main entrees to choose from. We opted to try the tasting menu as they were known for it, and the tasting menu changes every week - something different to try everytime. It was a 6 course dinner, including a small dessert, and I was quite full. We were celebrating a late Valentines, and they were nice enough to give us a small Valentines treat on top. Overall, every dish on the tasting menu was flavourful, and had just the right amount of taste. Thank you for making our night memorable. IG: Ayeween

I've been waiting to try this place for a while and finally had the chance! First off, this is located in a old, but charming mansion/house that once was used as an all girls school (fun history fact! Hence the name Maison). I loved the charming place and it wasn't too busy on a weekday night. I ordered a couple of apps - the beef tartare and the escargot. The waiter also persuaded us to get the bread to dip the juices off the escargot, and I was sold. I loved all the dishes and can say that I was getting full just with the apps alone (thanks to the fluffy bread). For mains, we ordered the beef bourguignon and the truffle pasta. The beef was soo tender and the pasta came with visible shavings of truffle. The waiter was so friendly and funny, and really topped off the experience. All I can say is it's a lovely place to have an incredible evening and enjoy good food.

Well, if you are vegan this place isn't for you. But if you love cocktails and up for unique cocktails for brunch , you would love it. I had the best ever Gin based cocktail "Bon Voyage " for a Sunday brunch. The gin is custom made by Dillon's for Maison Selby. And it was one of the reason I wanted to try the place. I had peach waffle, it was exceptionally good but went easy on toppings, it felt a little dry or plain towards the end as the toppings weren't enough. Fries were amazing too. Salmon Benedict was okay but the quantity in general for the food was quite less. I mean if you are paying 70 bucks ( tip excluded) for 2 mains and a side , it should fill you up. Service was fine but the drink was the USP of the visit.

This vibey french resto located in an old toronto home is definitely giving luxury and grace. however, i found the food rather underwhelming and flavourless. my favourite thing of the night might have just been the shoestring fries that came with the french onion burger. they were extremely crispy and well salted!

This place is the perfect spot to host a gathering, the interior decor is so unique and fun. There are many different rooms that can be rented out with different menu combos. We started with a lovely looking meat platter to share which was delicious. The beef brisket burger was good but pretty standard. However, you can't go wrong with the crème brûlée. It was very busy when we were there so service was a bit lacking but everyone was friendly. The only downside was their time limit, we felt rushed as we were finishing our dessert.

The concept of a French bistro in the heart of Toronto housed in a 136 year old mansion is at once romantic and intriguing. The dining rooms are housed in the original rooms of the mansion and the innards are left largely unaltered. Old wallpaper, wood floors and vaulted ceilings add to the charm of the dining spaces. If one has to divide one's review into bite size parts, the locale and the ambience will definitely get a 5* rating. Coming to the food, which is what one goes to a place like this for, I would give it a 3.5 star. I got the lamb saddle with the potato Pave, or Duo D'Agneau in French. It was well presented but the portion size was smaller than what you would expect, even for an expensive eatery. The potato pave was good and the lamb was juicy and well done. The brioche buns that came for the table was absolutely great. The ratatouille was pretty ordinary and was a let down. The tagliatelle was very good. So overall a mixed bag. The service was ordinary in the beginning with the server being curt and not having the politeness and finesse required for an establishment like this. But later on she became more attentive and helpful. The sugar cookies that came with a lit candle was on the house to honour the birthday and was well presented too. The alcohol was good but not exceptional. The Pinot Noir that I had was ok and the sangria was great.

Maison Selby is an IG girl's dream. Not that I am one myself. After a few good experiences with restaurants under the Oliver & Bonacini restaurant group, I decided to pick Maison Selby for my birthday brunch with friends this year. I generally like O&B restaurants for their approachable menu. Generally, everyone can find something they like on the menu at a reasonable price. Maison Selby was no exception. We were seated in a sun room which we almost had to ourselves, this is great news for people looking for a venue for larger groups that want a bit of privacy. The sun room also provided us with excellent lighting for our brunch photos. I had the beef tartare as a meal which came with fries on the side, I also added the egg to make it more brunchy. The beef tartare was very fresh, and delicious on top of the buttery toasted bread they provided. The fries were delicious, they were like potato sticks but still had the potato-y mash center typical of fries. It was paired with a basil mayonnaise that tasted beyond fresh. I had their fresh orange juice and it was perhaps the best orange juice I had in my life. They also refill your coffee if you order coffee. Overall, I would highly recommend Maison Selby for large group gatherings or girls brunch. You'll definitely get some IG worthy pictures!

I love this place. The ambiance, being in an old historic house that's perfectly lit, and is designed so very neatly, having some delicious cocktails and their very tasty dishes, is a perfect amalgamation of all things you want. Top that with their attentive service :). Overall, I'm a big fan and tend to frequent this restaurant on my visits to Toronto. Side note - lunch menu is way more delicious than the brunch menu. Just a thought.

I think this is an easy for 4/5 restaurant. I think the places that this restaurant excels in is in terms of its ambience. It has a really interesting interior that is cosy and get soft, relaxing Parisian vibe. You are definitely paying for a luxurious dining experience in terms of service and the restaurant interior. They have a lash seating and high quality glassware, and the dining experience makes it feel like a special occasion. The food is actually excellent, some dishes are better than others. In general, I think the downfall of this restaurant is that the price tag as a little bit too hard to justify the quality of the food and the drinks. I think the food quality is a little bit lower than expected for money, and for the ratings I found online. DISHES TO AVOID I had the French onion soup, which was very mediocre , the only thing that made it more flavourful was generous amount of cheese on top. We also had the oysters, which, of course I think they're better quality oysters on the seafood restaurant. I found the pineapple purée to be overpowering in the pickled flavour and you couldn't really taste the oyster quality. If you use the sauce, he wants a pair it with. I think the cocktails were very mediocre as well, there is a large selection if you're interested, but I find that the drinks for a little bit uninteresting. DISHES TO TRY We had to take a tagitallie with black truffle, which was exceptional, had a great amount of weight, and was generous with the amount of truffle in flavour that was on top. Could've been improved by offering fresh ground pepper, or Parmesan for the top. Beef tartare was excellent, and had a high-quality ingredients as a impactful flavour profile while keeping it simple. If you make the appetizer as a main dish and hot fries, the fries have an interesting flavor and are well spiced. Escargot was true to the french cuisine, and had a nice amount of sauce. They were large in size and not overcooked and were tender. They were served with delicious and well portioned baguette pieces that were well buttered and had a subtle flavor of garlic

Ambiance: Stunning from the moment you walk in. Despite the soaring ceilings and two-level layout, the space still feels intimate thanks to the dim, romantic lighting. Tables line the perimeter and upper level, while small trees with twinkling lights frame the booths, adding a whimsical, almost magical touch. A window displaying the cuts of steak was a fun and enticing detail. Appetizers & Mains: Every bite impressed. The seafood atop each piece of nigiri was incredibly fresh and buttery, literally melting in your mouth. The lobster mashed potatoes were an indulgent and unforgettable accompaniment to the perfectly tender steaks, which were thoughtfully presented tableside before cooking. Dessert: We saved room (and I'm so glad we did!) My cheesecake arrived beautifully plated with a candle and birthday message, while my boyfriend enjoyed the butter cake. Both were absolutely delicious and the perfect ending to the meal. Service: Every team member we encountered went above and beyond to make the evening feel special, but a heartfelt shout-out goes to our charming server, Vig. He was attentive, warm, and genuinely invested in ensuring each moment felt intentional and unique. He also shared enticing reasons to return for lunch, happy hour, and weekend brunch (options we had no idea the restaurant offered).
