The food was more 4 star territory but the service put it in 5 star land. Set on the ground floor of Park Hyatt, Joni is a very elegant and beautifully designed restaurant. There is even a fully grown tree inside! It's a lovely atmosphere and all the greenery inside really takes it to next level. We had eaten here on previous stays, but this time the service really stood out. We had a party of five for breakfast and our waitress didn't miss a beat. I wish I had gotten her name, but she was truly focused on delivering excellent service and she was a complete rockstar! I had the omelette which had Gouda and a butter sauce (which I had on the side) with greens and toast. The only set was okay, but the toast with the homemade strawberry jam was outstanding! I also had a tropical juice smoothie that was very satisfying as well. Overall, the standout service catapulted Joni to 5 star status for me. The beautifully renovated Park Hyatt. Came here for a site visit for an upcoming work event. The main lobby does not seem like a typical hotel lobby. It feels more like a luxury condo. The reception area is to your right and to your left is Joni restaurant. I loved the open concept feel and the aesthetics of the restaurant. Service is impeccable and fast. I was immediately greeted and shown a table. I ordered the Park Breakfast without the egg(substituted with sliced avocado). It was a substantial meal. Came with toasted, fruits, bacon, sausage, hash potatoes and sliced tomatoes. Simple, and delicious. It was a wonderful breakfast in a beautiful lobby. I just had a lengthy stay at the Park Hyatt. Joni is the restaurant in the lobby and I ate late night snacks and drinks twice and a brunch there. Atmosphere is upscale but not overdone. Service was very classy, and the food and cocktails were excellent. I enjoyed both the Caesar salad and the wedge salad, which were classics done right. At brunch, I had classic Eggs Benedict-- the hollandaise sauce was as good as I've ever had. I also asked for hot sauce (which might even have been house-made--delicious!) We came here to celebrate a special occasion. The overall experience was good despite the speed of serving the dishes was quite slow and service was not so good. The food quality was a solid 4-star. We ordered the salad, and the crudo for appetizers. The salad was not bad with walnut and blue cheese as the highlight. The crudo was not very fresh though. I didn't like that dish. For main, we ordered the cod and the steak. It took us a long time to wait for the main to be served. According to the server, the cod was a new item they only added to the menu recently. It turned out to be our favourite dish here! It was so fresh, cooked so perfectly and flavour was light. The beans in the dish were also soft. This cod is one of the best fish dishes I've ever had. The steak was nothing special. They didn't use a good cut. The onion rings were also flavourless and not crispy enough. After the main, it again took us a long time to wait for a server to order the dessert. We tried the mandarin flavour dessert. It was so refreshing and the destructured cream and white chocolate was not very sweet (I like it). It also came with a refreshing sorbet. Very creative dish! We enjoyed it very much. Overall, I would recmommend the food here, but allow more than two hours if you have a show to catch up afterwards. The food was also a bit expensive here ($80-100 per person). read more

My girlfriend and I enjoyed Winterlicious lunch ($55++/person). The food was exquisite! We both thoroughly enjoyed every dish and left us wanting more! When it comes to Winterlicious I find that some restaurants don't put as much effort into their food or they only offer the cheaper menu items. This was not the case at Joni. The mushroom soup was velvety smooth with laces of black garlic or balsamic!? The black cod had bursts of citrus and creaminess from the mussel sauce. My dessert "honey" was also delicious without being too sweet. Sadly the service did not meet our expectations for a 5 star hotel. The service did not do the dishes justice! Each dish was simply dropped off with only the name eg black cod" without describing the ingredients or complexity of the dishes. Hence why I can't really share the details of our meal. Other than the friendly hostess, the rest of the staff lacked finesse and passion. Felt like they were just there to collect a paycheque from their unionized job. I waited so long for my water glass to be topped up that I decided to go do it myself and no one even noticed. I had the pleasure of staying at the Hyatt over the New Year's Eve holiday. so we were at Joni for cocktails and also for breakfast in the morning. the cocktails were great. The service was absolutely fantastic both in the evening and in the morning. for cocktail hour, I would say the bartender took exceptional care making and recommending cocktails and there's a great curated cocktail list. Breakfast the next morning was great and we had the breakfast sandwiches which are enormous. We had considered getting crispy potatoes or something to come with. I'm glad we didn't because it was hard enough just to finish the breakfast sandwiches which come with a side salad. Every place is so meticulously pretty, reminds me of Park Hyatt Tokyo: where everything was a work of art. Naturally, I ordered everything on the menu for breakfast. Yes, every single thing :D Sorry, not sorry! Good food is good mood and breakfast is important! I've had 4-5 of their lattes. Matcha was a bit overwhelming and bitter. The other lattes, cappuccinos were better. Smoke salmon was gorgeous! Yes, so beautiful. Avocado toast with beautiful poached eggs, blue berry pancakes, croque madame! To name a few. And a few side orders of avocado slices ($7 each) and smoke salmon later.. I tasted everything! Didn't finish but tasted it all and off to my high tea! Decor is pretty and truly loves the piano player. Food was good but nothing extraordinary. Service is ok but could have been much better. Even though we had expressed wanting to order drip coffee we were told that it was not available. Instead we were invited to order "fancy" coffee. We received our fancy coffee and it was delicious. Was it $10 delicious, not really! We then noticed that other table were getting drip coffee along with refills. We expressed our disappointment only to be told that it must have been a misunderstanding and that they were sorry. We asked for the cost of the coffee to be reversed and the only thing they could do was offer us latte to go. We asked for separate bills, we were only a party of 3 with very simple orders. It took 3 tries to get the correct bills. This is not the type of service one could expect in a top tier hotel. read more

Joni received lots of mix reviews. Some said very good, some said very disappointed. I gave it a try on New Year Eve. It only offers tasting menu at a price of $190 per person. Upon arrival, valet parking is almost a must, unless you parked at Yorkville public parking. Start with bread and some Italian sauages. Bread is surprising good, comparable to Louis Louix and Alo. Then oyster with creamy sauce, I like the combination, chef is very creative. Next course is the fras gois with the cute little pieces of bread. There is fish broth served, and I feel like the broth is a little salty. The halibut course is amazing, fish meat is firm and fresh. Next course is a piece big ravioli with truffle. Nice execution in this course, the waitress told us to cut in half, and there will be a raw egg inside. Last main course is the tenderloin with lobster. The steak cooked medium rare, and very tender. Finally dessert is a small cream puff with ice cream on a tart. Again, nice presentation and can see the chef put the effort on each course. I love Joni at Park Hyatt! read more

I usually go Cafe Boulud for brunches. This is the 1st time that I got invited to Joni. I was expecting a better experience, unfortunately it was way below average. 1. The waiter couldn't remember the orders. It took him three times to write 5 people's orders down. He seems to be confused once there are two people ordering the same dish. 2. The cream for coffee was not fresh. 3. We waited for 40 min without any bread. Guess what, bread came out with our dishes... 4. One star goes to the steak. It was delicately cooked. Sauce was way too salty. 5. The waitress who came to take our dessert order couldn't remember either. 6. Strawberry Tea - Strawberries were extremely sour while this dish has nothing to do with "tea". For anybody who is looking for some bitter balance against sweetness, don't bother. Came here for a birthday dinner on a weeknight. This restaurant is located in an open area on the ground floor of the Park Hyatt. The ambiance is gentle with a few low key pieces of art on display, some couch seating in a corner near a fireplace, and tables scattered in the space. We sat near the fireplace away from the main hotel walkway. There were almost no other customers that night so the space was very quiet. The restaurant was kid-friendly. I brought my 3-year-old and they provided a high chair, plastic cutlery, and a colouring mat with crayons. While this restaurant offered a chef's choice tasting menu, we ordered a la carte which made it easier to share with our child. For 3 adults and 1 kid, we had: Waldorf salad - Gentle flavours accented with the sweetness and crunchiness of candied walnuts makes this a spectacular start to the meal, and a generally rich source of fibre and vegetables! Amberjack crudo - A light and refreshing appetizer. However this is more of a summer dish and not so appropriate in the winter. 2 x black cod - Perfectly cooked and flakes off into tender pieces! The beans and sauce provide an excellent complement of flavours for the fish. This was a great hit with my wife and kid. 10oz ribeye - the highlight of this dish is the many different ways they used onions in the sauces and sides. Unfortunately for a steak choice they should use a better cut instead of ribeye. "Parsnip" dessert - this is a deconstructed dessert with pieces of Mandarin, white chocolate, buttermilk, ice cream. It's not too sweet and perfect for my family's palate. It was a huge hit with the 3-year-old too! Overall this was a great experience and although the dishes weren't 5-star memorable, there were enough hits for a 4 star rating from me! read more

Firstly, the service was 5/5, and more importantly, this new tasting menu was leagues better than the one we originally had. I truly hope they keep it up so that Joni becomes our safe bet for tasting menus once again. Original Review: Tonight was the second time we came here for their tasting menu (5 course). However, unlike the first time, this was by far the worst tasting menu we've ever had (and we've had quite a lot in Toronto, Montreal, and Europe). I'll be fair and not compare it to European Michelins because that's just laughable. Nevermind other tasting menu's in Toronto and Montreal, just comparing it to Joni's tasting menu from 2 years ago-ish, the quality of the food tonight was terrible. Details: - Starters were the best thing they served the entire night. Foie gras, well balanced out with some acidity was likely the best thing we had flavour-wise. - First course: one slice of albacore tuna. Basically the same thing you could get at any mediocre sushi restaurant. Flavours were okay. - Second course: Peanuts on sweet potato (not even kidding). The sweet potato was seared and the sauce was ok - Third: Seared cod, overcooked, very salty (go to the junction or Ossington Strip, any restaurant there will do a seared fish filet justice). One of the waiters even came by and asked if we were enjoying our scallop, I wish it was scallop as it's hard to mess up. - Fourth: tenderloin steak. It was cooked perfectly hence the extra star. However the flavour was subpar, I'd rather roll the dice and go eat at the keg. - Dessert: sorbet on chocolatey mousse. You guessed it - nothing special. The very unfortunate thing here is that we loved Joni when we came here 2 years ago-ish, we even asked for the chef's business card (I can only assume they changed the head chef). We picked Joni again tonight because it was a safe bet for us, obviously we were wrong. Unfortunately, we're never coming back again, we used to even recommend Joni to our friends and colleagues. I rarely write reviews on Yelp but this restaurant deserves one. Great dining experience!! Everything was cooked to perfection, and some very interesting and unique flavor combinations. The Ontario lamb was super tender and flavorful, also really enjoyed the beef tartare with enikorn waffle. The milk&honey ice cream was amazing, milk sorbet and beeswax ice cream paired so well with the whey poached apple on top. The smoked hay ice cream really left an impression as well. Also was very impressive that we got some made in house miso butter to pair with the bread. Small detail like this made this restaurant stand out. Would definition recommend to anyone. read more

In terms of service, I found it a little bit on the slower side and it could get a while to get the attention of the staff. If you are hungrier the rib is a better choice. They are very accommodating. I went dairy free this meal and they were able to do it. I would come back.
