A legit European dining experience. Situated in a neighbourhood, somewhat hidden but worth the effort. It may have been an actual house originally. I had a Shopska salad to start, and a Polish 500ml beer. Then a large schnitzel dinner. Ambience was homey and comfortable, service was polite and efficient. Dinner was great and reasonably priced. The experience is the polar opposite of a Montanas, East Side Mario's monoculture assault to the senses. Family restaurants like Veslo need support. read more

Found this gem on Yelp after some amazing reviews and heard about the vibrant German community in Kitchener and Waterloo. My BF and I shared the Platter for Two to sample all the different offerings and we were so amazed by how delicious everything was. The potatoes were soft and pillowy yet crispy. The sauerkraut was not too sour, very flavourful and crispy. The star of the show was the schnitzel which was not too greasy and very tender. Everything else on the platter was all tasty as well! I have now found my ideal schnitzel restaurant in K-W. I was a true believer in Metro, but their quality and service have slipped of late. Veslos is a true gem and has a very European atmosphere. I had the small Vienna schnitzel and it was delicious. The cole slaw and potatoes were excellent with the meat. Very reasonable prices. My only negative would be that the water was not served with ice so it was only room temp. I will be back. read more

It pains me to give this rating but I had no option. Service was fine, schnitzels were tasty, shopska salata was above average but my god, the cevapi were horrible, I was absolutely shocked. Had a plate of ten and each cevap was hard/burnt on the outside and super salty once you bit into it, actually we found all our meals extremely salty. I thought I would have had a good experience since it was somewhat busy but the opposite happened, food didn't taste fresh, it was over salted and the cevapi and home fries were burnt. Veslo Family Restaurant is a small restaurant on the east side of Kitchener. They serve balkan foods and Austrian foods, so expect lots of tasty meats! I had the combo platter for 2 on two different occasions. It comes with a wide variety of different meats, and is perfect for sharing between two or three different people. There's no vegetables in the platter, other than a small side of coleslaw and beans so consider ordering a salad too. The cevapi is good, as are the pljeskavica and the grilled sausage. My favourite is the karajordjeva schnitzel, which is a rolled schnitzel stuffed with cheese. The (normal) schnitzel was juicy and tender. You also won't go hungry, the meal sits on a bed of fried potatoes. A lot of the food is quite salty but we were provided with multiple pitchers of water or on one occasion, bottled water at no charge. I wish they also served Kajmak with the platter, or as an extra. Service is excellent. Unfortunately, sometimes it can take the kitchen a while if you're behind a large order. Generally, the restaurant is pretty quiet, but there are large groups that gather for a good meal. There's lots of parking. Aside from the main lot, there's also street parking immediately in front of the restaurant and it's apparently okay to park at the parking lot next door as well. read more

This restaurant is hidden away on a side street off of King Street West. If you are vegetarian, this is probably not the restaurant for you. My boyfriend and I shared the Combo Platter for 2 for dinner. This platter consists of 4 chevapi (grilled pork and beef sausages), 1 minced steak, 1 shish kabob, 1 small vienna schnitzel, 1 smoked sausage, 1 karadjordjeve schnitzel and 3 sides (home fries, coleslaw and baked beans) The coleslaw is not the coleslaw covered in mayonnaise. My favourite is the chevapi. Perfectly fried and a yummy two-bite sausage. I found the smoked sausage on the saltier side, but that could be because it is smoked. The schnitzel is the best on the menu - reminds me of katsu (japanese deep fried cutlets either pork or chicken). The breading is obviously a bit different, but the schnitzel is fried to perfection with a thin layer of the golden breading. The karajordjeva schnitzel is schnitzel wrapped with melted cheese. I found the cheese quite salty, but other than that it was a good savoury bite. Service was awesome and quick for our group of 10. Cash, visa and debit when paying up at the front. read more

Traveling through Kitchener and looked up German Schnitzel restaurants. So glad we picked Vaslo. Recommend this highly. We had the Hunter schnitzel it was delicious! Large generous portions! Truly one of the Twin Cities' hidden gems. I have tried almost all of their menu selections and each one seems as if it was made specifically for me. This location the food was great I really enjoyed it, but anyone concerned about COVID this is not the place we didn't notice until half way through our mean that the server wasn't wearing a mask! Tucked away in a neighbourhood, you wouldn't know it, but the best schnitzel ever is hiding. I got the small gypsy schnitzel with veggies and it was deeeeeelicious. It comes with a spicy tomato sauce and the schnitzel was done PERFECTLY i.e. not too chewy or tough like other places. Service was fast and friendly (our very large group had pre-ordered so it was good to see how well it was handled). The restaurant seats about 30-40 people but it broke my heart to see some elderly folks walk in and then have to leave because there was no more space available -- a testament to how good the food is. If you want to beat the lunchtime rush, show up at 11:30. This joint has been around for decades with another location in Grand Bend... will definitely be checking it out if we head up there this summer! read more

My fiance and I were in town and about to head home and really wanted to get some good schnitzel and I found this little gem online so we decided to give it a try! We actually got our dishes to go and ate them when we got home to Ajax so the food of course wasn't hot and just freshly made, but that was fine because the food was still OUTSTANDING! I got the dish with the schnitzel rolled up with the home made cheese in it and my fiance got the gypsy schnitzel and they were amazing...but I think we both wish we stocked up on the one with the cheese, there are just no words for how good it was! Everything was delicious. My spouse and I tried their own bread with homemade cheese and it was incredible. Her Greek salad was incredibly fresh. The rolled schnitzel with bacon was very good and my Serbian minced steak was amazing. Even the potatoes, vegetables and coleslaw was awesome.
