Hunter Schnitzel with spicy mushroom sauce. Absolutely delicious!!!
    Sandra M.

Omg was not expecting that. Got the hunter schnitzel and dumplings with spicy mushroom sauce. I was not expecting the utter deliciousness of my lunch. It was beautifully seasoned, not overly saucy and they created a return customer.

Amazing find!! True value for money for great quality meals. The restaurant has nice ambiance, clean, friendly staff with great service. Food quality is really good and serving size amazed us. We selected chicken schnitzel, it was huge!!! Nicely prepared and presented, delicious. Had chocolate crepes, nicely done, richly filled. This place is definitely worth recommending and to keep in shortlist

It's my first time coming down here and I've heard plenty of positive things from my buddies, and they certainly lived up to my expectation! I got a Chicken Schnitzel Sandwich and my friend got A Wiener Schnitzel Sandwich! The ambience of the place is like we got transported to Budapest, plenty of culture and provides a nice, homey feel. The service was great, our food got to us fairly quickly and came out looking super dressed up! My Chicken sandwich was amazing! It had a great crunch to it, the mustard really elevated the sandwich and all the toppings are a must! The Wiener Schnitzel was a very nice Hungarian sandwich, providing a savory flavor with a high quality result! It's a fantastic place and I believe that we'll be coming back!

We ate at this lovely restaurant November 22, 2025. A charming Hungarian restaurant work live music and great food. Staff was attentive and helpful. Great prices and would recommend the wooden platter for sure.

Plum dumplings.....this was disappointing. From frozen....so dense and old

Married to a Hungarian guy, we are always in the market for an authentic Hungarian meal. Since the closure of two of our usual places, we decided to try Budapest Restaurant for the first time, over Easter with the family. I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could but rounded up. For the most part, most of the popular common dishes was pretty well done. This includes the wooden platter that included a schnitzel, sausage, cabbage roll, cucumber salad, beet salad, nokedly (dumplings), and potatoes. The cabbage rolls could have been more tender, but the flavour was very good. Schnitzel is pretty typical.....and we really enjoyed the goulash and deep fried mushrooms. The restaurant has expanded and there are many more tables. The whole place use some updating and washrooms are alright..... A nice spot to visit!

Food: 4.5 Stars Service: 5 Stars Ambience: 4.5 Stars Fill Factor: Stuffed I had not tried Hungarian cuisine until I visited this restaurant so walking in I had no idea what I would be eating or whether I would even enjoy it. Happy to say that it was a very positive experience and I would easily recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to try some Hungarian cuisine. There were quite a few options on the menu so it was a hard decision to choose what to try. I decided to go with the platter for two which came with a variety of different items which is perfect if you want to try a bunch of different things. Everything from the cabbage rolls to schnitzel, rice, and sausage tasted great with our favourite being the beet salad which was unexpected. The one item that was not as good was the porkchop which was I found fairly dry so definitely not something I would order on its own. We also got to try a few pieces of the "dumplings" which the waitress brought us a sample of. In case anyone is interested in knowing the dumplings look kind of like pasta and had a nice chewy texture which I thought was pretty good. Service here was great. The waitresses were super friendly and helpful in helping us decide what to order. As mentioned one of the waitresses even brought us a sample of the dumplings when I asked what they were when we were ordering. It took me by complete surprise but I was really grateful that she did. The staff were also very conversational so it felt very comfortable being in the restaurant. The space is large, bright and clean. In the summer there is seating outdoors but the indoor seating area is spacious as well. The decor is definitely interesting with many plants and different types of what I assume are Hungarian decorations along the walls. All in all, I went from nervous and not knowing what to expect to being completely satisfied with the food and service at Budapest Restaurant. I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to try some Hungarian cuisine.

There are many things to like about the place: the food, the theming, and the service. We wanted to sample many dishes that are close to authentic as possible, so we ended up ordering the Budapest-platter ($44.95) for two. In the platter, you get 2 sides, a porkchop, 2 slices of Debreceni sausages, 2 types of Schnitzel, and a cabbage roll. There was a good variety of food present in the platter as well as very generous portions. It was listed as good for 2 people, but I believe it can be spread out to even accommodate 3 people. There was a good amount of thought put into the interior's theming. Laminated pictures of sights and attractions of Budapest, Hungary were present at the table to give a good perspective and insight into Hungarian culture. Lastly, I have no complaints, and have only praises to the service we received while dining here. We were attended to dutifully, and we had the best of time dining.

We tried this place for the first time this week as we were crazing for some good authentic Hungarian food. This place did not disappoint. The platter for 2 is a pile of amazing meats on top of 2 bowls of sides (we chose 2 spaetzle sides), enough to feed 3 people. The Parisian schnitzel was my favorite item. The spaetzle was outstanding. Finally, the braised pork chop had a lovely texture with so much flavor. We will be back for more with a larger group so we can try other dishes.

My Hungarian friend brought me here. I don't know what to order. I let her decide and order it for me.,,the chicken liver dumpling soup is to die for. Food food and reasonable price. Friendly staff, nice place, it's just few steps from Woodbine Stn.

We've ordered in from this place a few times, and every single time it's been very tasty. This time, finally got to come inside and try their dinner menu. First of all, the food comes out so quick! Barely have to ever wait for your food. We tried the cabbage roll. It was juicy and tasty. I recommend getting bread with it for all the juicy goodness. The pierogis are a must have. I can easily get two servings for myself. It comes with coleslaw, and sausage (and ofcourse the sour cream as well). We also got a greek salad and a Parisian chicken shnitzel. Can't go wrong with anything on their menu. It's all super tasty. They also do have some draught beers as well. The prices are fairly reasonable as well.

    Hungarian Platter for Two

First, let me say that the waiting staff was very understanding and accommodating. At first, we sat outside at one of the sidewalk tables with an umbrella in the middle of each table. It was very sunny and breezy. We decided to sit inside. We were glad that we did as there was live music inside. We did not hear that when we sat outside. With this being said, the music was not loud and you can still have a conversation. The guy was playing his keyboard and sometimes accompanied with singing. I think he was singing in an Eastern European language (Hungarian?...I don't know and did not ask.) and English. It was Sunday evening just in case other Yelpers want to experience their live music. We had the cherry soup, chicken liver soup and chicken noodle soup. The cherry soup was our first. It was a cream based with whole cherries in it. We have never had any soup with cherries before. It was different. None of us at the table dislike it. For me, anything that has cherries will remind me of Tylenol cherry flavored cough syrup as I work with kids. The chicken liver soup was very good. It was not what I thought. I was expecting whole livers and pieces of chicken. It was chicken liver mixed into the dough. So it was chicken liver dumplings in soup. Yum! The chicken noodle soup is chicken noodle soup(no matter who makes it). We had the Hungarian Platter for two. We chose the dumpling and cole slaw for our side dishes. The dumpling was very good. The cole slaw was good. It is vinegar based. The platter came with a cabbage roll. Very good! The Platter is compiled of a Wiener schnitzel, a huge Parisian schnitzel, two pork chops and pieces of baked potatoes as a base. Someone in our party chose the fish and chips. It was alright. The batter is not seasoned. So the taste had to rely on the tartar sauce or ketchup. We had shots of the pear liquor which was excellent. If we are in town again, we would come back.

Budapest Platter (for 2) and Cucumber salad.

We came for Budapest Schnitzel Platter, but left loving so much more! My family & I wanted to try as much as possible so we shared the Budapest Platter (for 2), Chicken Paprikash, Cucumber salad and some desserts. -The Budapest Platter is definitely a tower of deep-fried porky glory. What I enjoyed the most was the juicy pork chop, cabbage rolls, pickled beets, mashed potato side (had a sour/dill flavour), and the Parisian schnitzel (nicely fried batter coating). Overall, it wasn't the best schnitzels we ever had, since the breading layer separated from the pork easily. -The Chicken Paprikash was DELICIOUS. The meat was fall off the bone and smothered with a creamy paprika sauce. I was surprised that Hungarian dumplings were like gnocchi, but with a pasta-like chew to it. I recommend using the COMPLIMENTARY sour dough bread to scoop up the delicious sauce. -The $3 pickled cucumber salad was really refreshing to have with all the fried/heavier entrees. For dessert, we tried their Russian Cream Cake and Somloi Galuska. Seems like their desserts often involve rum-soaked raisins (although I didn't really taste the alcohol). My favourite was the Somloi Galuska trifle that had layers of sponge cake, whipped cream, & chocolate sauce. The fam loved the Russian Cake, the sponge was soft and the cream wasn't butter-based so it was really light and had just a tad of sweetness!

We ordered some takeout from here today. Totally recommend. Kind of wondering now why it took so long to actually grab some food from this place because it was great. The hubby had the schnitzel. You might wanna call that "big as your head schnitzel". It was a great portion. He had it with the dumplings. We also had the pork paprikash with the dumplings as well. Very generous portions; really tasty and came quickly. And the delivery guy was friendly and followed the instructions to the letter. Give it a spin and enjoy!

Definitely wasn't hungry after this, but next time, I'm ordering a gravy on the side!!

The schnitzel that I ordered (Wiener Schnitzel) was enough to feed 3 people. Mine was with the potato salad that you pay an extra $2 (worth it in my opinion) or you could get it with rice and fries. It also comes with a salad. We also ordered the Potato Dumplings (Halusky) which brought memories of my trip to Slovakia a while ago. We also ordered some Pillsners Urkell to wash down our food. The schnitzel is a bit on the salty side so the Halusky, potato salad and salad provides a nice balance. The food took a very long time to arrive so that's something to be aware of. I'm not sure if it was a one off or if it's a regular occurrence. The food was worth the wait though. My advice will be to come as soon as they are open. The decor needs improvement but you are not coming here for the ambience. The food prices might seems expensive but when you compare it with the amount of food that you get, it's really not. There's parking at the back and the restaurant it's a bit lax about their opening time which is 5pm. We arrived at 5pm but needed to knock so they could open for us. It's in the same block as Dairy Cream so it was convenient for us. We did not finish our food as we were saving room for the ice cream. It's worth a visit if you are fan of schnitzels!

Be aware that their other soups are often "not available". Their salads are huge and must be shared. This is not a restaurant that you plan on having an appetizer, a main course and a dessert because the main course portions are gigantic. The schnitzels are really what you're going for. You get to choose 2 of 4 sides (rice, potatoes, red cabbage, veggies) and a schnitzel. You can't go wrong with any of the schnitzels. It all comes on your plate with the schnitzel often being bigger than the dinner plate itself. Their nokedli (Hungarian dumpling) is a side dish too and it is tasty. Their cucumber salad is good too. The restaurant is family owned and the staff are very helpful. They do go out of their way to assist or help and make accommodations. The restaurant is tired looking and there is a smell when you first walk in but nothing too bad. We would like to go more often, but it's usually reserved for more special occasions given the price. The price isn't crazy expensive given the price of food today and the portion, but it does exceed what would like to pay for a normal night out.
