I was calling around on a Saturday morning to see about doing the 5 hour pre-licensing course. Drive Rite's starts at 11am and was fully booked. However they said I could take a chance and just show up as there is often a no show or two. Sure enough I arrived and there was a spot open. Sylvia did a great job of covering the material, backing it up with personal experiences and making it enjoyable. The school is right round the corner from the subway, there is a starbuck just across the road (handy for a quick coffee during the breaks), what more could you ask for. After the class I booked in to do my test with them, Simon was helpful and friendly and talked through the options. As it turned out I managed to get a lesson organized for that afternoon, and hopefully a test booked shortly. I had done a fair bit of driving in the UK before moving the US, so Jim took me through some maneuvers and was really good at pointing out the differences between US and UK driving test expectations. They also provided the 5 hour lecture, which the instructor tried to make as fun as possible, and provided a car for the actual test. They treat you like a small business should. Amazing driving school. There are so many in the city and they all seem sketch or have terrible reviews but this school had incredible teachers. Every instructor I had was kind, patient and extremely helpful. I was able to pass my road test after 10 lessons, on my first try. After having such a horrible experience with another driving school, it was refreshing to be accommodated by people that genuinely cared about your success. I've only had one driving lesson, in addition to using their car for the road test and with their support I was able to pass. They were very diligent and on time. Even when my appt was scheduled for 2 and I had not arrived as of yet, Simon called me at 2 o clock on the dot to ensure that I was going to make it to my appt. I failed the road test once with another driving school, so I decided to try Drive Rite (Kenilworth / Flatbush) after reading all the promising reviews here. With their help, I managed to pass the test the second time around! Pros: * The five-hour class with Sylvia was interactive and engaging! She used videos, discussions, and stories about her own driving experiences. * Most of the driving instructors are pretty friendly and are looking to help you improve. I was a nervous driver, so this helped me calm my nerves. * The receptionists at Kenilworth are also very nice and professional. Cons: * I had four different instructors (Jim, Scott, Orlando, and Andre) despite trying to stick to two. It really depends on your availability and that of the teachers. There was a mix-up where I requested Jim for one lesson, but I got Orlando instead. Having so many instructors made things confusing. For example, Orlando's parking method was wildly different than that of Scott and Andre. * Nobody informed me before my first lesson that I had to go to the garage on Campus Road, and I had an early lesson before the office opened. (This should really be in the confirmation email!) * Most of the cars I drove were fine, but one of them had strange brakes that would rattle a bit. Notes on Instructors: * Jim was very friendly - he joked around quite a bit and told me many of his life stories; this helped to calm my nerves but was sometimes distracting when I was trying to focus. * Scott, who I had most of my lessons with, was strict and not very friendly. He was not very encouraging when I made a mistake and told me sternly to write down his instructions. I often found that I was really tense during these lessons. Even though this was the case, I did find myself making improvements because I was constantly reviewing my notes from his lessons. * Orlando was really nice, but I found him to be the most confusing of the four. His instructions were rather confusing, especially with parking, and he brought out a measuring tape while I was parking! * Andre was the instructor for my lesson right before the road test. He was friendly and encouraging but also cognizant of areas for improvement. Most importantly, he helped me calm down before my test. I honestly wish I had more lessons with him! All in all, I would recommend Drive Rite. I suggest sticking with one instructor, though, and taking a lesson or two right before the road test to refresh your memory. I passed my road test thanks to Andre and Jim. I had a lot of problems with parallel parking, but Andre 's technique works like magic, giving me opportunities to correct any mistake before I finish the park. I would totally recommend this driving school. They are super nice and patient. read more

They have amazing staff - instructors are great, Rebecca, the receptionist is super nice and friendly and Simon, the owner is the sweetest guy, who also has some great tips for the road test! I would suggest you spend your money elsewhere. They do not prepare you well for the road test. They also state they can handle nervous and anxious drivers but they can not. They yell and only make the driver feel more anxious behind the well. I'd suggest going somewhere else or learning from someone in the family. read more

Drive Rite is wonderful! I came in not knowing how to drive at all, but after 10 lessons with them, I was able to pass my road test on my first attempt! Most of my lessons were with Christina (who is a great instructor!) She taught me how to do a three point turn and how to parallel park with very very helpful tips I had only one lesson with Steve but I wish I had taken some more with him because he was also very helpful. I had that lesson with him right before my road test so he made me go through a practice one, which helped tremendously Simon, the owner, is very accommodating when it comes to making appointments and moving them around to fit your schedule anddd he's super friendly. He drove me to my road test location and helped give me the confidence I needed to pass. I only wish I had a few lessons with him! Fantastic class and excellent customer service. My instructor, Jim, was very friendly and genuinely cared about making sure I passed the road test. When I took my test he said, "I feel like an expecting father waiting in a hospital." My first lesson was the first time I had ever been behind the wheel and Jim was very patient with me. He took his time and showed me everything I needed to know to pass the test. I also had another instructor named Andre, and he was fantastic as well. He was very specific and he even texted me the method of parking, word for word. He made sure I was focused and that I would be ready for my test. Simon and his wife Renata run the business and they always made sure I was up to date on my lessons and that things were going well. Wonderful. I have nothing but positive things to say about this driving school. I was on a time crunch, as my permit was going to expire in a month and I work and go to school, both full time, causing me to have a difficult schedule. Simon was able to squeeze me in and book all the necessary classes and schedule a road test accordingly. The five hour class that I took was taught by young lady (I forgot her name; maybe Sylvia...idk sorry). She was great!! She was personable and I learned a lot from her. Although she must of taught the class plenty times before, she wasn't boring. She made the class interactive. I had 6/7 of my driving lessons with Jim and I loved it. His funny and witty personality allowed for a relaxed and enjoyable experience. I am usually tense and afraid when behind the wheel but with Jim I was able to drive without an ounce of nervousness. I couldn't ask for a better school and instructor. Firstly, the owner Simon is inviting, kind and friendly. He kept in touch and showed concern for my success. When I called to schedule additional lessons, he took the time to ask how I was doing, how my driving was improving and proceeded to encourage me. Each encounter with him (and his wife) whether in person or over the phone has been pleasant, informative and motivating. They have flexible hours, excellent communication and I LOVE that their system sends confirmation and reminder emails. I had the 5 hour class with Jim and it was smooth, he was open and informative, funny and the hours slipped by. And Andre..... ok, Andre was the absolute best. I give him 10 stars. He knew how to explain things to me in a way that STUCK. He was informative and pleasant. I was able to ask EVERYTHING I needed to and his explanations were better than I could have asked for. His tips were so helpful and they kept ringing in my head as I was taking the road test and I passed! :) I took 5 lessons with him and felt better educated and better prepared with each one. I never felt rushed or overly anxious, never felt ignored or unsafe behind the wheel. He was simply excellent!!!!! AND Simon even gave me a last follow up call to congratulate me and wish me well. From the moment I called to Start the silver package ( 6 lessons, road test, and the % hour pre-licensing class) Til this very day of my road test, everyone i came in contact with were very friendly, made me feel comfortable, taught me very well, and was very patient. I definitely give them five stars. The instructors make sure you pass your road test and ensure by teaching you very thoroughly. I had Jim and Andre as my instructors and they were awesome. They are very professional and helpful. Front desk is very accommodating, especially Hiba. As instructors I had mostly Ronald and David, and they are both great instructors. They gave me confidence, which is what I was lacking, and didn't "micro manage" my driving, while being very calm and patient. They worked to correct what I was doing wrong and answered my many questions. I passed on my second try. The first time I failed because of my major test anxiety, not because of the instructor or my skill. I had Donald for one lesson before the test, and he also drove me to the location. He gave me very good practical last minute advice for a few specific moves that I needed to pay attention to at the test location. Overall, I highly recommend this driving school! read more

I'd like to thank Drive Rite for being an amazing driving school. I learned about Drive Rite by looking through Yelp reviews and was not let down. Front desk is pleasant to deal with (esp. Hiba!) and the 5 hour class went by super quick (Jim was great). All of my instructors were great but standouts were Ron, Kenny/Kevin [I think it's Kenny] (this man will teach you how to turn like nobody's business), Monique (she will teach you how to be meticulous) and Jim (all around amazing teacher-- I had him for a 45 min warm up lesson right before my exam; best decision ever. Also taught me how to parallel park perfectly by my 3rd time behind the wheel.) Ended up passing with only 10 points off. My only qualms are that they did not explain to me that there will be different instructors (even though this probably ended up being a good thing; I learned different techniques from each of them that combined into me passing the test) and that they did not clarify on their site where they would be able to pickup students so I had to come to their office every time. Nonetheless, I am so happy that I was able to be a student here. Now that I have my driver's license, I will be coming back to Drive Rite to take highway lessons. After years of avoiding it, I finally have my license and I owe it all to how fantastic and easy Drive Rite made the experience. I signed up for a 10 lesson package + the Road Test. Completed the 10 lessons within 1 month and passed the Road Test on my first try. The staff and instructors at Drive Rite are all wonderful, helpful people! Truly a great place. The 5-hour course was not as bad as it sounds. Sylvia kept it interesting! The driving instructors I had were Jim, Christina, and Dave. All were extremely helpful in getting my driving skills up to par. I think it was beneficial to have different instructors as everyone has something to offer, but it could be nice to stick with one the whole way through. All up to you. I took 10 classes at the location near Brooklyn College, and I passed my road test at the first try with 10 points. Overall I was happy with the service. Through all of my 10 lessons, I had different instructors, which is something that I don't recommend. My advice to anyone reading this is that try out couple instructors in the beginning and stick to that one person that you like the most, you will be more comfortable driving with the same person, and sometimes different people say different things which will get you confused. However, like I said, I had pleasant experience, 10 lessons for me was more than enough, I feel very comfortable driving now. Thank you Drive Rite! read more

My instructor KENNY taught me a FOOLPROOF way to parallel park PERFECTLY every single time, as well as teaching me everything else I needed to know to ACE the road test AND be a really good driver for life. HIVA manages customer service brilliantly, and ALWAYS took great care of me. SIMON the owner went out of his way to make sure I'd do well. I'm giving 2 stars because their driving instructors are wonderful however they have the worlds worst customer service! They booked me for a road test at 7:30am. After letting them know in person that I can't make that time and need something later they said they would reschedule me. After two weeks and I did nor receive an email confirmation I emailed them to ask what's wrong and that I need to schedule my test for a later time. Then they booked me for a 7:45am road test AND BILLED me with a 7:00am practice drive that I never confirmed with anyone. Talking to their staff and getting them to do simple things like confirm dates and reply to emails is way too hard. It's even difficult to get them in the phone and when I ask them why it's so hard to reach them they act as if it isn't. They have amazing instructors but their troublesome customer service that seems to not care if they bill me unnecessarily or not makes me feel that it's not worth it. read more

I took the road test previously with a different school and failed, but because of Drive Rite Academy I felt 100% comfortable behind the wheel my 2nd time around. I found this place by searching for local driving schools on Yelp and boy am I happy that I did! This place is absolute Gold and my instructor Kenny is God sent. He's patient, informative, calm, helpful, and funny. There's no way I would have been able to pass my road test without him. This was my second time taking the road test(my first time was 2 years ago using a school in Queens) and I did a lot better than I did the first time around. Kenny instilled a confidence in me that I wouldn't have gotten anywhere else. He's the best instructor hands down or as he likes to call himself "the Suntan Superman". Thanks Kenny! read more
