As the name suggests, they were one of the first to introduce cheese foam cap to Oahu. So far, I've tried the following two drinks: 1) Brown Sugar Milk Tea: very creamy with a strong tea flavor. I like this one a lot! 2) Cheese Brulee Milk Tea: My favorite drink here so far! The milk tea compliments their signature cheese cap very well. We went to check out Cheese tea a few weeks ago. It was a little difficult to find as it's located right on Kapiolani Blvd. The parking entrance for Cheese Tea is is on the street on the back of the building. Parking isn't the best there. There isn't a lot of spaces and it's hard to maneuver if you want to get out. We got lucky because someone was leaving as we were turning around to get out. Cheese Tea is a kind of small place but it looked cozy. There are a few tables to sit at but we were just doing take out. I had my sister and daughter with me. We looked at the menu beforehand and we were set on getting the strawberry smoothie. But then I asked him about it and he said it had green tea in it. Not exactly the best thing to be giving a child right before nap time... so we got something else. It was called Messy Strawberry. It was okay. It just kind of tasted like strawberry milk. My daughter seemed to like it but she drinks whole milk daily. The container they gave you for the drink was nice. My daughter didn't want to throw it away so now she's using it for a bank. Overall though, if I go here again, I'd try something different. They do have Five Stars so you can collect points and earn free stuff if you come here a lot. read more

Cuteness overload...every nook and cranny here is covered in adorable decor that takes you into Asian wonderland. Finally was able to visit Cheese Tea on my last trip to Oahu a few weeks ago and I am SO happy we stopped by despite being ridiculously full from a big dinner. Cheese Tea is a cute little shop located on Kapiolani Blvd that features a variety of Hong Kong style milk teas, fruit teas, desserts, & pastries; where you have the option of adding this amazing, fluffy CHEESE CAP that's made with cream cheese. Hence the name, CHEESE Tea. Now let me tell you, I was a bit skeptical at first and unsure of how a cheese cap would taste with milk tea, but what the hey. I'm always down to try something new. Being that I love sweet potato, I went with the Purple Romance. I really wasn't sure about sweet potato and cheese flavors mixing together, but the guy behind the counter reassured me and all be damned, he was right. One sip and I was in heaven! That cheese cap is legit legit and complimented the sweet potato so well. Mind blown. I kind of regretted not getting a bigger size! I tasted my husband's Cheese Brulee drink as well and that was a pretty solid choice too. The cup they serve their drinks in is also really cute and sturdy enough to be reusable :) I would highly recommend a stop here when in town. The shop itself is small, but super cute and modern with a handful of tables to accommodate guests that want to sit and enjoy their drinks. Cheese Tea is one of the best boba shops on the island! Parking is a bit inconvenient because you need to find street parking, but the hassle is worth their drinks. The interior is covered in cat decals and decor, but it fits the vibe of the brand! I ordered the creamy cake boba by mistake. I thought it would be a regular milk tea with creamy cake as a topping, but it really did taste like cake. It was pleasant but definitely a bit too sweet for me. However, the milk tea itself was good and I can appreciate a good milk tea despite the sweetness level. I also got popping boba because I didn't want a super heavy drink, and I thought the boba was really good! I don't usually have anything to say about popping boba because they've all tasted the same to me, but I could tell Cheese Tea's was different. The juice/syrup that came out of each pearl was much creamier and denser. The taste also stayed on your tongue longer. I really wish I had more time to go to Cheese Tea again and try their actual boba and other teas, but I'll keep it in the back of my head if I ever visit Hawaii again. Whenever I'm around the area and craving some cheese foam, the first place I would think of is Cheese Tea. Their cheese foam never disappoints and their cups are soooo cute. It's located on the same side as Gyukaku on Kapiolani, across of INspiration. There's a parking structure but needs validation and after 5/6pm, you can street park right in front of the store. From the outside, the spot actually looks relatively small. However, when you enter the store, there are multiple seating areas that can fit about 10-15 customers if they decide to talk or study. The interior decor is absolutely adorable! They have a lot of cat coasters, wall stickers, plushies, and they're just adorable! I love taking pictures of my drink with the coasters whenever I visit (and I've come many times). The drink I love to order is their 104 Uji Matcha with cheese foam (I know the order number because I order it so much LOL) or their Plant Oreo Matcha with cheese foam. Their matcha drinks actually bring out the essence of the true tea bitterness which I like rather than a weirdly sweet flavor where you can't even taste the matcha flavor. The addition of the saltiness from the cheese foam brings the matcha flavor out a little more, balancing sweet, salty and bitter altogether. On days when I want a sweeter drink, I get the Plant Oreo Matcha. The addition of the oreo brings out a sweeter sensation with the salty and bitter and basically acts as a topping. I feel like Cheese Tea is a bit underrated and needs a bit more love and attention. Continuing my quest for satisfying, refreshing and delicious tea drinks, during a particularly long, work day from home, I turned to Yelp and my fellow Yelpers did not disappoint with their recommendations of Cheese Tea near Ala Moana at 1221 Kapiolani. I couldn't interrupt my remote workday and didn't feel like dealing with any parking issue, so thanks to Davis at Door Dash he delivered the goods to me. But let me back up a bit. As I'm sure all of you boba tea connoisseurs are well aware, it can be overwhelming to navigate around a menu of a place you're visiting for the first time. And being that I wasn't even officially in the store nor in front of their menu, I just called them and described what I wanted, which to be honest was anything closely resembling The Alley's ultra luxurious Strawberry Lulu which comes at an equally ultra price of $7.99. A friendly person answered the phone at Cheese Tea and after my description, she recommended I order the "Strawberry smoothie with extra cheese cap". It was $5.00 (one size) plus $1.25 for the cheese cap. I also asked about the sweetness which is customizable. She recommended to get the normal sweetness because of the cheese cap which I imagined would temper the sweetness with its creamy saltiness... In about 20 minutes my Dasher arrived with drink in hand and I was so excited to see it look exactly what I envisioned and more. First the cup is nice and tall with a darling Cheese Tea cat logo and the cup quality is of a heavy plastic that won't cause the condensation to wear it down. It's a nice, frosty reusable cup. The top is covered with a cover with straw hole and a drink hole covered with a little plastic heart. I don't take this for granted especially on drinks with cheese caps because with foil tops, the cheese or tea can ooze through the broken foil and also a lot of the cheese tends to adhere to the bottom of the foil so I admit, sometimes to enjoy it I have to peel the whole foil off which is not fun when I'm driving and I don't want to get my hands sticky and dirty. So, the plastic cover ony Cheese Tea cup is very thoughtful because it can easily be lifted so I can enjoy the thick cheese remaining under the cover and on the sides of my cup. Yum! The drink was absolutely delicious, and the cheese is just about the best I've had here on the island. It is thick, with just the right amount of cream cheese, milk, salt, and sugar. It takes a long time to sink to the bottom which meant the drink was in perfect form when it arrived to me in a little carry bag, boba straw and napkin. The next day I ordered the Mango smoothie ($5.25) blended with tea & ice with cheese cap ($1.25), 75% sweetness. This is simply smooth and delicious as well with bits of real mango. Wow. What lovely afternoon pick-me-ups so I can put in more work hours from home tonight! The message at bottom of the cup said "We love to see you smile" -- I hope you can tell this experience made me do just that. read more

I wanted some boba tea and found this place so we decided to try it out. It had the cutest interior!!! They had many different drinks to choose from. I ended up with the mango smoothie topped with cheese foam. I thought it was pretty good but a little too much ice mixed in. It wasn't that sweet which I like. My husband's drink, the brown sugar milk tea on the other hand had the option to use tea or milk, so he chose milk and was quite disappointed because it didn't taste like anything but milk. Drinking a liquid cheesecake in Honolulu... Cheese foam (also known as cheese caps) are somewhat different. It's free on Sundays. On my first visit, I had a watermelon smoothie and a White Peach oolong tea - both drinks had cheese caps...yum! I could tell that real watermelon was used because of the pulpy texture and small bits of watermelon seeds! During my second visit, Angel wanted the free iPhone case that came with a $40 purchase. It was supposed to be one transaction, but they let us combine our orders! We used the Yelp check-in offer of 10 percent off and we got Stamp Cards! Wow! They know how to give incentives! From refreshing fruit teas, to creamy ice-blended drinks, you'll definitely find a favorite. I ordered the First Love. It had freshly-puréed papaya layered with coconut milk, and topped off with diced strawberries. It's usually topped off with dragon fruit, but some drinks are altered/unavailable depending on the season. This wasn't something I'd normally order at a boba shop, but it's now one of my favorites! The drink reminded me of mango sticky rice, but in drink form. My other foodie friends ordered the Fun Fun Green Tea, Messy Strawberry, OBC Matcha (Oreo-Boba-Cheese), Strawberry Yakult, and the Plant Oreo Matcha. When I first spotted Cheese Tea on Instagram, I genuinely thought to myself that the world had gone crazy. Why would anyone want to put cheese foam onto a drink? But as I saw more and more of these pictures, I started getting curious, and decided to try it. The inside of the store is super cute, like you'd just walked into a store in Japan or Korea or Taiwan. There were so many options, but we got the Messy Peach, which was a seasonal drink option for $6.25 (+$1 for upgrading it to a large). My friend and I agreed that this was unlike any other milk tea we've had before. It was super creamy and tasted like a light peach ice cream you'd get in a Japanese cafe. An interesting pair, cheese and tea. Kind of like it :) LOCATION: Blackfield building, near Subway. INTERIOR/AMBIANCE: The cutest! Bright, clean and welcoming. Cat-themed with the cutest cat coasters and cat.. everything lol. DRINKS: Ordered the Uji Matcha drink, which was essentially green tea with a light (cream) cheese cap topped with a sprinkle of matcha powder. Believe the instructions were to eat the cheese first (the boy spoke a bit too quickly), so ate most of the cheese then drank the tea, and allowed the remaining cheese to somewhat blend in with the tea. The cheese cap was somewhat thicker than necessary and I can't say I enjoyed eating most of it before drinking the tea. However, the little cheese left that gradually mixed in with the tea gave it a unique flavor. The matcha flavor of the tea itself was present, but not striking. SERVICE: All the workers were so pleasant! The drink was made quickly as well. OVERALL: I loved the ambiance and would love to return just for the cuteness. As the brown sugar drinks seem popular, I'd want to return to try those. Summer has arrived and we're still in a pandemic. Good thing a lot of boba tea shops have partnered up with delivery apps such as Doordash and Uber Eats to get their food or drinks delivered. Lately, it's been so hot that I ordered cold drinks to cool off. Anyway, I used Doordash yesterday and got the Large Messy Strawberry with Strawberry Popping Boba and the Large O.B.C Temptation which came with Boba, Cheese Foam, and Oreo cookie crumbs. The packaging was cute with two plastic boba straws, napkins, and cute teal colored heart shaped lid caps. I'll review the O.B.C Temptation first. This is the first time I have tried a cheese foam/cap.. It was THICK! I've read online that to get the best experience for cheese foam boba tea you have to to gently tilt the cup so that BOTH the tea and the foam get to you at the same time. I tried to do that so many times and it kinda worked. I finished my drink halfway before swirling the cup until everything blended in. When I took another sip, it tastes like an amazing tea flavored cheesecake. It was really good and I liked the Oreo bits. However, I am unsure what the tea base really is (like is it regular tea with milk or...?). Oh well...I would get this again because it was an interesting and refreshing drink during this hot summer weather. Onto the Messy Strawberry with Strawberry Popping Boba. The popping boba was an interesting experience. For the first time, I was hit with a sweet strawberry syrup for each boba pop. However, I got to be honest, the flavors were a combination of getting hit hard with blended strawberries or not getting any flavoring at all and just drinking regular milk. After reading Lyla's review, we all decided to try their watermelon smoothie w/ cheese. Drink prices range from $4-$7 depending on what you get and add ons. Our drink before tax is $5.75, so it's a bit pricier compared to your usual boba drink place. Despite the Cafe being quite empty it did take a while for the drinks to be served. I honestly think it's because of the cheese and it being fluffed onto your drink but it's okay. When we got our drinks, we were stoked because it came in a cute reusable container. We tried it first with the straw and then taking Lyla's advice to sip it from the lid. So how was it? It was def an experience... the most simple way I can describe it is a fresh watermelon juice w/ a fluffy salty cream cheese topping. It was salty, cool, creamy, and sweet. I think it would have been better if it weren't as salty... We couldn't really drink the cheese by itself so we had to mix it with the juice. By the time we almost got to the bottom I couldn't drink anymore because it was only cheese left. It was too salty to consume for me by itself. I really really wanted to like this place but the last 4 times I went were all kind of let downs to me. The drinks were not up to my standards. I have tried: Brown Sugar Milk w/ Boba: I had high expectations because of Hong Kong's Brown Sugar Milk and this was just alright to me. I was very excited when they opened up a tea place dedicated for their cheese milk tea. I love my milk tea with foamy cheese on top. The menu had a variety of drinks and all drinks can add cheese cap. So I ordered the four season tea with cheese on top. When we got it the lady told us do not mix the drink. She told us to just drink it the way it is. I thought that was very odd. Usually I can use a straw and stir my tea and cheese. So I tried it the way she told us. Cheese in your tea? As of as it sounds it is very creamy and surprisingly good. The best I can explain it as whipped cream is to your frappe is cheese to your tea. They don't mix so when you drink it from a straw you will get mostly tea. If you open the lot and drink from the opening you will get a mix of the creamy cheese and tea. So I've been seeing cheese tea everywhere and was so curious! It definitely sounds bad until they describe it, and everyone says it's amazing! So I just had to go and see for myself. The place is so cute with cats all over the walls and the decor is just so cute. They lady was so nice and explained what her most popular items were. She also said the cheese cap is like liquefied cheesecake. She even showed us how to mix and drink it when she brought the cup over. These cups are very sturdy. I wanted something plain so I could really understand what the cheese foam cap was about. She said the brown sugar milk tea was the most popular so we got that. If you try just the cheese, it's kind of salty and not so great, but mixed in, it seems to make the tea very creamy. The boba was very good and chewy, not too soft. There are a lot of other flavors and combinations, like adding Oreo on top or getting a smoothie or lots of other things. I would definitely go again to try other items on the menu. However, for just milk tea, I would stop by some other places more often because this one could get expensive. But it's a great extra treat! read more

Per Yelp reviews, I wanted to try the cream cheese with milk tea because it is something different. Per employee, milk tea has condensed milk but not creamer or milk. My order was plant milk tea that was layered with oreo sprinkle, crea cheese, and milk tea. I drank up the milk tea so by time I finished it the oreo and cream cheese was on the bottom. I should have mixed the cream cheese as other Yelp people did. I was talking to a lady and asked her what she ordered here. She tried most of the drinks and eemed to like this place because it is a good place to study. It is not crowded like some Starbucks. They no longer have any happy hours prices as mentioned by previous Yelp people. read more

This boba shop is really cute and they use fresh fruits in their drink! Their shop is a little inconvenient because of the parking situation. They do validate parking but the rates are a little high. I'd suggest coming after 630p when the street parking opens up. That way you don't have to be rushing in and out of the garage. The set up is super cute and so are the cups! I decided to keep my cup since it looks like you could probably reuse it several times. The prices for a boba drink is about 5$, more if you add on the foam and toppings. I've honestly never had the foam before and they graciously offered a sample. We asked what the most popular drink was and they said it was the mango or strawberry drink. I've been wanting to try this place as a self declared boba addict. Located right next to Gyu-Kaku on kapiolani. Unsure on the parking situation as I walked but I did see some signage by the register that they give 50% off on your parking fees when you are a customer there (I think). Cafe itself is adorable, loved the cat decor, furniture, even the coasters . Pretty extensive drink menu and plenty of customization options. Wanted to try the cheese teas since it's their namesake. Opted for the creme brûlée and matcha Oreo plant. I was not disappointed, so delicious!! I've had other cheese foam milk teas but none as prominently cheesy as these. Would definitely come back for another matcha Oreo plant, yum!! Just wish it were in a more convenient location. read more

To be fair...my last review was 4 stars simply because I haven't tried many tea/boba places. Coming back to this location after trying the cheese topping at other locations I feel this place deserves 5 stars. The cheese topping is really the only thing I like. As I said in my previous post....can't stand boba lol. This place is the place to go for cheese topping (as it should be cause of the name). They give the most of it and it's the best tasting. Ive been skeptical of a lot of boba places popping up and Cheese Tea was one of them. Id like to think I'm a boba fanatic so I like to try any boba place I come across. It took me a while to be sold on the cheese cap and while Hana Tea was the one that intro'd it to me, Cheese Tea made me fall in love with it. The two times I've visited i got their Brown Sugar Milk Tea, with and w/o brown sugar boba. The boba was soft and Chewy from what I remember but what really took the drink up for me was the brûlée cap (cheese foam with a torched top). There's something about the way the salty sweet goodness of the brûlée cap complements the milk tea and how throughout the drink you'll get a slight crunch from the crushed brûlée topping. Satisfying. Not to mention the interior is seriously the cutest thing, and it's so cozy! The owner was also very helpful and welcoming and it's definitely a place I can see myself coming to more often if I'm around the area. I would like to give this place a 5Star but I have yet to try other options in the store but more options means more potential! :) read more
