Just another yuppie store on Commercial giving nothing back to the community and treating the locals like dirt. Customer service was worse than their prices, and their prices are exorbitant. The same bikes cost %15 less on Broadway. read more

I'm sure if you can get in that the service here is great from the other reviews. Here's the but. But when I called to see if they had any space for a tune up they said they don't take appointments but to try bringing it end of the day to see if they had any space. So here I am. My day off. Walked my bike here (since the tire isn't working properly and rubbing against the Mount) at the end of the day to see if I can get it in. 'No sorry we don't have space.' 'And we don't take appointments' So no appointment. Well do you think you'll have any space later? Like can you give me a better time to come by since I can't make an appointment? When you might be less busy? 'Nope. Oh we can put air in your tires for you though' My tire that isn't working...yeah cool...uhm no thanks. 'You could try this other bike shop at this other address you'll have to walk to' I guess thanks for wasting my time. I'll just trudge back up the hill I guess. read more

A great quick set of repairs and a tune-up, super happy with the turn-around time considering how busy they are in these difficult times.

This is my first post. I've been a Yelp lurker for years, using the site to help me figure out where to go. I'm so damn indecisive, and I'm glad ya'll have been here to let me know which places exist out there and are worthy of my time. THIS IS THE PLACE that drove me to go home and write a review. I saw the great reviews so I walked by the place -- I do this to get a feel for places before entering -- and I saw ALL THESE BIKE LOVIN' MEN..which wouldn't normally matter, but I'm such a bike noob, and at the notion of walking into a place full of guys who really know their stuff about bikes, I start to feel all apprehensive due to my apparent uselessness. I don't want to be American-Apparel-judged. I don't have a cool commuter bike, I just recently got a helmet that I actually like, and now I was looking for some bike lights -- which I did research beforehand, but how am I supposed to know if they've got the ones I saw? Well I sucked it up and walked in. I was greeted, first by a dog, whom I believe is named Dax, and then a human directed me to the bike lights. I was given some personal recommendations by him, and he was SUPER FRIENDLY and very helpful! I did not feel judged and everything was relaxed and sincere. I probably would have gone for his recommendations, but then another guy walked over to me and offered his personal recommendations. He told me all about these lights and their features, even recommended some settings for the time of day/weather in which I'm going to be biking. He was funny, helpful, and VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE. These guys are so nice, even the guy who rung my stuff through the till was nice. They wished me well on my future bike rides, and I was advised to keep my lights away from crackheads or something of the sort. Hilarious. I love this place, and I hadn't even looked at everything. I'm just sure that if you need anything bike-related, you should go here, because the people are awesome, and they will help you, and you will feel good after having been helped by them. read more

This place has it together when it comes to wheel building. I actually had two sets of wheels laced up here. I was able to pick everything out in one shot for my combination of parts for my wheels for my cyclocross. The staff were also patient and understanding when it came to my indecisiveness. Each time the wheel sets were done on time as promised and felt great. The mechanics are also great when it comes to servicing. I had an overhaul done here and when they were done it felt better than new. The shifting didn't work that well when the bike was new. read more

I've dropped into this so a number of times to buy gear, and the staff were knowledgeable and took time to help me whether I was buying pannier bags or bar tape. They've even steered me towards a cheaper purchase when they thought the product would better suit my needs, which i feel is always a good sign and wins my business long term. They keep a pump by the door and are good with letting anyone use it whenever, and I've had less pleasant experiences for the same at other shops. If you buy 10,000 coffees at Starbucks, you shouldn't feel guilty using the restroom if you don't want coffee on that particular occasion; you're a customer, in the general sense of the word. Same goes for bike shops, if you're a steady cyclist and you need air. Again, wins my business. I've never had work done here, but my friends have and I understand they do a decent job for a fair price. They've got legit gear for purchase, the staff seem cool, and even the services I haven't used i hear good things about= whammy, five stars. read more

My first custom built bike, and very impressed with the service so far. They have a huge following and priced very well in comparison to the rest in town.... Custom built from the ground up in a steel frame, retro classic cross cycle.. Check out their website and speak to Darren the owner he knows his stuff and has the better shop connection with his clients.. read more

The goal: get my girlfriend a bike helmet for our afternoon bike ride. After going a couple other bike shops on The Drive, we enjoyed the pleasant and cozy size of Dream cycle. There's not much space, but it's not cramped. I think all the Brooks leather accessories help give Dream Cycle a gentlemen-y aire to it. What stood out for me and my girlfriend most was the super friendly service. To have a female working behind the counter was a huge help to my missus to pick out a helmet they had in stock. She was very knowledgeable, and so was the bloke in the back who I chatted with. Would definitely go back to them first for any of my bike needs. They stock mainly Surly and Soma complete bikes, but specialize in the custom steel bikes of the commuter style. Since they specialize in custom builds, they tend be more expensive than a craigslist steal. Check out their website to see the full list of parts and services. Definitely worth checking out! read more

(Repairs only, haven't yet bought one of their lovely bikes). Have been in multiple times for weird bolts and random things, and they have taken the time - sometimes a multi-minute search involving multiple staff - to find these weird things, and then declined to charge me. Lovely folks. Several repairs done quickly, no attitude, and helpful advice. read more

Gold stars and high fives for Dream Cycle. I've only ever popped in for emergency repairs/ tune ups. The lovely men who work here get my bike back into riding condition super quick and for a reasonble price. They'll fix what I've brought the bike in for, and let me know if I need other repairs/maintenance work done, without being pushy or condescending. And if you're looking to get some spiffy accessories for your bike they've got em. They also do custom builds. I won't bring my bike anywhere else for service. read more

Squeezed me in and gave me a fast quick, no BS tune-up /check-over during the height of Spring and bike business,

I limped in with a jammed chain an hour before they were closing for a long weekend. They were swamped. To my surprise Keifer was cheerful and eager to try to tackle my issue. After checking things out he shook his head: it needs a new derailleur and there is no time today. I pleaded: can you get me back in the road? I live on the other side of town. He struggled with the jammed chain and was about to give up when it popped free...yay! His $20 charge seemed cheap under those circumstances. Throughout he remained very pleasant and friendly. I wish I lived closer. They would be my regular bike shop for sure! read more

Three Words: Darren is fantastic! Always smiling and always great service! I will always give them my business!!! read more

I really wish I had better things to say about this place... its right in my 'hood, they have a cool little shop with great stock and they appear to build beautiful bikes, though I build my own so I've never bought one. I have, however, been by searching for parts and each time all I got was a boatload of pretense and condescension. I always thought this was strange as I'm a steel bike lover myself. I've interacted with Darren the most and he's given me (and my partner, incidentally) attitude each and every time, to the point where neither of us will go in any more. read more

Professional & knowledgeable crew. Super cool bikes. Nice guys. A real community feel there.

i've been dealing with Dream for about two years now. from the moment i stepped in the door asking about a complete build they've been honest and personable with me--exactly the kind of shop you want to build a relationship with. Once you build that relationship they keep you coming back--luckily i've needed very few repairs (just a light truing after breaking in my wheels), but they take care of them so fast you can often be back on your ride within a day or two. they are not interested in selling you cheap product thats going to wear out, and they'll tell you as much. they're happy to make special orders, and all the staff members i've dealt with have the best solution in mind for your issue. for example--i naïvely wanted to change my chainring size on my fixed gear, but the mechanic i dealt with on the day wisely suggested the more sensical (and cheaper) option: to change my cog size. and finally, the shop is now offering a fitting service--the fit on my bike was pretty good as built, but now its perfect. even though the shop isn't geared towards the hardcore roadie, they recognised the benefit of a proper fit for the rider and have added it to their arsenal. read more

Great shop! I've been in there for a quick repair and when I need to put in a pricey special order. Bigger shops tend to keep your bike forever when you need a fix, or consider a special order a pain in the butt. At dream they were happy to get me back on the road ASAP, and were excited to help me order exactly what I needed for my summer bike tour. Also, no pacing around and reading the back of a helmet box during your repair here. Sit down at the "bar" and chat with the mechanic or catch up on reading some magazines. read more

these guys are above par in service, speed and knowledge i don't go anywhere else since finding the DREAM ! ps- dog instore is amazing read more

Finally a bike store where people know what they are talking about! I had been to 4 other bike stores earlier today for a bottom-bracket issue. I should have gone here first. I got the crank therapy package and it was ready same-day! The bike is SOLID! These guys care, really know what they are doing and share great maintenance tips rather than wait for you to come in with a problem that could have been prevented. read more

This review is based off visiting once, but that one experience was far better than going to the closer, mac-talla cycles. Friendly, informative staff gave me options for my constantly flat tire. They were prompt and went the extra mile to grease up my chain and fill up my other tire, as well. I will be back for any bike related purchases. read more

Good customer service on the phone and in person. Fixed my gear/shifting issue last year with an inexpensive cable fix; for that they've won my trust. I've finally found a shop where I don't have to worry that they're going to upsell and overcharge me for things I don't really need. Efficient service; way better than the other bike shop further south on the Drive. read more

I had a bike custom built in 2013 and have always had great, reliable service, reasonable rates and friendly treatment. They focused on my needs, my riding habits and built a bike that worked for my changing lifestyle (I bike-commute but had 2 kids since then so wanted a pregnant-lady/strong family bike). Highly recommend this great place! read more

Good stuff. Lots of lovely high-end parts to ogle, the guys working there are really nice, they cater to the upper price point crowd but that's all good. Definitely check them out! read more

Not impressed with this shop. First experience was a tune-up on my bike. The work cost more than I expected and a few things fell apart so I had to bring it back and for more work - only to end up having an unpleasant discussion to get them to actually fix it without charging me more. Most recently, popped in to get a flat-tire fixed. They didn't have the tools for my (fairly standard) bike hardware and tried to up-sell me to new hardware so they could do the work. I ended up having to pay $5 extra to have them jury-rig something so I could get my bike on the road again before I finally took it to Bikes on the Drive and got it sorted out. read more

Like other reviewers I wanted to support a neighborhood business. Sadly, I can't support this one. First time I went in for a replacement crank arm and pedal. I left my bike as well as email and phone number in case issues arose, and explained I would be going bike touring soon after returning to pick up my bike so needed it ready. When I went to pick up my bike they had done a bunch of work I hadn't asked them to (and hadn't checked with me), for which they had charged me about $200 more than the quote they had given me, and, most amazingly, they returned the bike without the pedals I had gone in for. Some years later I accompanied a friend who made an appointment for a bike fitting, as they carried a frame she was interested in. She received 2 calls from the shop in the days prior to the appointment, indicating at least someone in the shop was on top of things. However, when my friend and I showed up for the appointment for the bike fitting they had no record of the appointment and no staff on site to do it. They asked us to wait a half hour for the owner and when he arrived he was disrespectful. We left and won't go back. read more

Solid custom shop. Not perfect. They forget things, mix your orders up, misquote stuff, but that's okay because their prices are good, service is excellent, and they really do care about bikes. Dream will do you good, as long as you are patient and willing to work with imperfect people. Have spent over $5k here on bikes and accessories and am relatively happy about most purchases, they always want to make sure you're happy with what you bought. read more

Friendly and helpful and they won't give you the lecture about tuning up your bike monthly, etc.

I went into Dream Cycle last fall looking to get my break pads replaced as they were in desperate condition! I brought in my bike- an old heavy steel bike that I didn't pay much money for. I explained my problem, the mechanic took a look and he told me that it would be at least $50.00 and that I would have to come by on a weekday and it could take a couple days to repair. I went home to mull it over. Later that week I met a new friend who was a bike mechanic and I mentioned about the whole situation. "What a rip off!!" he said "I'll come over and fix them, brake pads are less than 5 bucks!" So later that week he came over and put the new brake pads on my bike. It took him just a couple minutes to do. I was very impressed and very wooed by his skills and money saving abilities. We are now happily in love and I never would have had the chance to meet him were it not for the expensive brake pad replacement service at dream cycle. So what I am trying to say is... thank you dream cycle for helping me fall in love. The end. read more

I went into Dream On last week asking to have my handle bars tightened. From the moment I walked in the door I was greeted with a rude, holier than thou attitude. No one said hello, they barely looked up from what they were doing. When I asked if I could have my handle bars rightened one of the men said "no. we have bikes due very soon and lunch breaks we have to take." When his co worker piped up & told me I could leave it with them & possibly get to it later, they other guy said "but we wont make any promises, we are very busy." While I understand they were busy, it was the curt & rude fashion in which they spoke to me. Perhaps I would have been treated better if I had rolled up on an expensive road bike. These people seemed to think that they didnt need to treat potential customers in a kind fashion. My boyfriend was looking to purchase a number of things for his bike that day but we were both so offended at the treatment we received we just left and went down the drive to Bikes on the Drive where the kind polite friendly staff took the 30 seconds to tighten and make some adjustments to my brakes with a smile & a thank you. Free of charge. Needless to say, there is not a chance I would take my bike to Dream on, let alone recommend them to anyone. Rude, inconsiderate, holier than thou. Not how to run a business. Do yourself a favour and go to Bikes on the Drive for friendly and helpful staff who actually appreciate your business. read more

I was excited to go to my local bike shop and was happy to support a small business in my new hood. I ordered tires and was assured they'd be in in two weeks. After 3 weeks of not hearing from them I called, and apparently they hadn't even placed the order. At this point, a follow-up call to tell me the tires would be late would have been nice. Strangely, on my next call, I was told that the tires had been back-ordered (truth?). Miraculously, the tires came in a few days later. When I went in to pick them up, I told them that a call for the sake of customer service would've been nice. Dude was totally rude, hinted that I was "late" picking them up, and then said "sorry for the confusion." There was no confusion! There are too many other bike fixing options in this town to bother with people who can't do what they say they'll do or manage a simple apology. I love my bikes, I love people who fix bikes, and I strongly suggest you all find some other bike store to love ;) read more

Ordered a Son 28 hub in Feb/March to be picked up in April for a long tour in May/June/July 2013. (plenty of notice) When I got the wheel home it was a different hub (Son Delux) and with the E3 light I had bought, I did not get much illumination at speeds under 20 km. hour (I live in the mountains so do a lot of long night climbs) So had to do the tour with a battery-mount headlamp. Called the shop and staff assured me the problem would be fixed. However owner Darren was very resistant to taking any responsibility for the screw-up (despite a very clear e mail trail) On the phone he told me that Schmidt had changed the name of the hub but that the Son 28 and the Delux were the same hub. WRONG! The Schmidt company and the distributor in the US said they were distinctly different hubs. Darren was only willing to trade the lights. A friend went to Dream Cycle and picked up the Schmidt Edelux light and we returned the E3 light. The Edelux light we got from Darren was used. I am disappointed that Darren is an unethical business owner who does not treat customers well. We paid Dream Cycle around $1000 for the hub, light, wheel and touring racks and we could have bought all these things while we were in the US but chose to support a local business. I am warning cyclists to steer clear of this shop. The staff were very nice, by the way. The owner is the problem. read more
