    5-Spice Chicken Bahn Mi
    Kev H.

DragonEats is a little overpriced in my opinion, with their banh mi priced at $11, but the food was pretty good. I like trying new flavors, so when I saw they now offered a garlic butter banh mi, I decided to go with that. Unlike their five spice chicken which uses chicken thigh, though, the garlic butter bahn mi features chicken breast. I was a bit worried that it would be dry, but no, the chicken was still really juicy and not dry. I didn't get a strong garlic flavor though, which is a shame. But I could taste a bit of the butter flavor, although I'm not sure if that flavor in combo with the Vietnamese pickled veggies really worked. Overall, it was still tasty, but I'm not sure I'd order it again. The baguette was really good, it had a crunchy outside but a soft and slightly chewy inside. The service can be pretty slow, especially during the lunch rush. I didn't like that the shop was very small and felt extremely cramped, with no place to dine in. They also didn't offer extra napkins and just stuffed a few inside the bag. Overall, it still makes a decent lunch option in the downtown area if you're looking for something fairly affordable.

Only take away service available! Their online ordering system on their website didn't appear to be working so we ordered advance via DoorDash. It was a long line of people waiting to pick up their orders when we arrived so we were very happy that we had ordered in advance. I got the combo cold cut sandwich (ham, pork belly, pate with pickled veggies & cilantro) which was generously filled & I also ordered a Thai iced tea which was refreshing. My stomach was very happy & I could only eat half the sandwich during lunch. I would strongly order in advance and just come by to pick up your lunch. Otherwise, you will be waiting for a while.

To start, this is only a takeout place. No sitting area here, although I saw chairs hanging upside down. Went on a weekday around 1 and there were 5 people before me waiting for their orders. The service was very fast. The menu is small with one veggie/vegan option and 5-6 meat options. Similar options available for sandwiches, salads and bowls. I ordered Teriyaki Tofu Vegan Banh Mi. This was the only option in any variety. Sandwich was good. Tofu was juicy but with hints of oilyness. Had mixed feelings while eating it. Veggies were cruncy inside but was missing some kind of sauce in it. Overall, a good sandwich and can be tried once.

I got the vietnamese iced coffee and two sandwiches. pork belly and roast duck. The coffee was strong and my friend really liked it but for me I didn't like that the grounds were at the bottom. The sandwiches were good sized and had lots of toppings. I liked the pork best. the duck is a little too greasy and not traditional banh mi flavor because of the sauce.

I really enjoyed the Thai iced tea. Some places fill your whole cup with ice and then add the Thai iced tea and condensed milk. This place had just the right amount of condensed milk not overly sweet and just a little bit of ice. It was perfect and the drink was great. I had the chicken fresh bowl and it was delicious. It didn't make me feel heavy after I ate it. It had fresh veggies carrots, noodles, lettuce, cilantro, and then you top it off with fish sauce and it was very tasty. I would definitely go there again.

Small takeout place on the corner. Can't believe I haven't been here sooner! The prices are very reasonable and the food comes out fast. On top of that, the portion is huge! You could make 2 meals of of 1 item if you're not a big eater. Salad container looks small in the photo but it's actually pretty big. Workers were kind and it was easy to order. Will definitely be coming back!

A popular place to get lunch in the Fidi area and decided to check it out with a friend when she came to visit! The line can get pretty long around lunch time but we were lucky it wasn't too bad for a Thursday and the banh mis came out in around 10 minutes. There isn't seating so we had to get them to go. Pop Combo - The cold cuts combination and the vegetables were both very fresh and made it not too heavy of a sandwich. It was interesting though as there was almost an entire cucumber inside and could have used a little more meat. Recently, I also tried the duck one as well and it was sweet and rich from the sauce. A nice contrast of savory and rich when eaten with the pop combo. Banh mis are around 11 - 12 dollars which is a little steep but a good lunch option if you're in the area.

Healthy Asian choices in a cafe. It has a pretty simple menu to place an order. DragonEats has a few locations in San Francisco including this one on Gough. Pretty good choices for anything they have. There's mostly Vietnamese. A pretty good place to get lunch. It's a casual type of place. The sandwiches are wrapped in paper and you can then eat these in there. Has okay prices compared to the area. It's about $9 for a sandwich. Got the Teriyaki Tofu Banh Mi. This has a few slices of tofu with cilantro, cucumbers, fried shallots, jalapeños, mayonnaise which I left off, pate, pickled carrots and daikon, and soy sauce. Best place to get quick Asian food. It's not that authentic to be sure, but it's certainly not bad though. There's plenty of choices for meat eaters, vegetarians, or whoever.

There's nothing more you can ask for in a good banh mi sandwich. You go here, you order, you wait 5-7 minutes, you get your sandwich, profit$$$. The baguette is not too-hard-stale-rip-roof-of-mouth bread, it's actually a fresh roll that didn't destroy my mouth. The meat filling was DELICIOUS and the pickled carrots and daikon, man, they were also very flavorful and punchy. I got the roasted pork both times I came here because it was that good.

So stoked to find an affordable lunch deal in sf! The spot has 10 dollar bahn mi sandwiches and 11 dollar vermicelli/salad bowls. I had the bowl with garlic butter chicken and it was tasty, well seasoned and with fresh veggies! Plenty of food also- I could barely finish it.

Good takeout place, with tasty bahn mi. I had the duck last time and decided to come again to try the garlic butter chicken. After having both, I do recommend the duck because the chicken was slightly dry. Overall great place and solid prices for SoMa.

I stopped by for some Banh Mi and ended up getting the Roasted Pork Banh mi. The banh mi was massive but given the price it makes sense it was so big. It was very tasty and I was certainly very full. I also ordered their lime soda which was tasty but certainly a tad too sweet for my liking. The service was solid, friendly and efficient. The chairs were all up so not sure if they usually have space for folks to sit but I walked to a nearby open space and enjoyed a nice lunch in the sun.

Small takeout only place, affordable, food is ready quickly, and tastes really good! The bowl looks small but the meat portion is generous! I got the pork bowl and it was flavorful and well balanced with savory and citrusy notes.

My boyfriend got the Charbroiled beef with garlic noodles and imperial rolls (#24) with an extra order of beef. Our meal was super filling and balanced! They don't skimp out on either the noodles or the protein (definitely could have done without the extra beef we ordered). The chicken was juicy but the skin stayed crispy. The charbroiled beef had the smallest hint of sweetness for me. The noodles had a nice chew to them, and were dry but in the best way possible. A lot of garlic noodles tend to be too oily and leave an unpleasant lingering mouthfeel, but that wasn't the case here. The noodles could have used more garlic for my preference, but I think it was well balanced with the flavorful protein and fish sauce. The imperial rolls were okay and a nice crunchy side. I wouldn't get them as a separate appetizer, but only $1 more to add to your dish is unbeatable. Overall a great experience and I'd definitely bring some friends here for a comforting meal.

But he does not give any service and just expects tip. All he does is walk around and collect money & does the very minimum. I've given this place multiple chances over the years, but unfortunately each experience has been uncomfortable in one way or another. The first time was around 2022. My family and I arrived about 30 minutes before closing, and the owner told us he would still serve us. After seating us, though, he immediately pressured us to order quickly and told us we had to eat fast because they were closing. I was with my elderly relatives too so just turn us away? If that was the case, it would've been better to simply not seat us. Don't be greedy just bc you want a few bucks. Another time, my husband called to order Hanoi-style pho to go, and the owner responded with unnecessary attitude, saying that's the only kind they serve. LOL, ok. The interaction felt rude for no reason. Most recently, we came on Mother's Day. The dishwasher/staff member was also unfriendly. The bun cha was decent according to my mom, and my husband said the beef stew noodle dish was okay, but my pho lacked flavor entirely. I wasn't expecting it to compare to pho in Vietnam or even San Jose, but it tasted very bland so I didn't finish it. The service from the owner continues to be the biggest issue. When we paid, he stood over us while I counted cash, so I felt pressure to count fast and add tip quickly. He left then came back a few seconds later then quickly grabbed the money without even asking whether I needed change and disappeared faster than the wind. The whole interaction felt awkward and pushy. He has a very strange personality. He's honestly very sleazy and has bad energy After several experiences like this, we won't be returning.
