I pass by this place all the time and I finally decided to check it out for the first time, I ordered a ham, egg and cheese croissant sandwich to go. I took one bite in the car as I drove off and had to turn around, I smelt something off and I looked at the sandwich and there was mold on the bottom of croissant. I had to spit it out it was disgusting. I asked to be refunded, the total plus the tip I gave them. Lady insisted on remaking it but isn't want anything else from there. I won't be going back. Pretty bare bones sandwich joint on the edge of Chinatown. They seem to focus on breakfast sandwiches, deli meat sandwiches and Vietnamese sandwiches. I only tried the Vietnamese sandwiches and they were all quite tasty. Grilled Pork: Probably my favorite of the sandwiches I tried. The pork was nicely marinated and grilled crispy, like something you'd expect to see in a vermicelli bowl. Really appreciated that there was ample cilantro, since it's my favorite herb. The lightly pickled shredded carrots and daikon added a nice tang. A few pepper slices, but not that spicy. The cucumber seemed a bit too thick though. Really enjoyed the crusty bread, crumbs everywhere but totally worth it. Pork Meat Ball: Really large meaty meat balls. So much so it actually felt like the veggies were in short supply, compared to being more dominant (on a relative basis) on the other sandwiches. The meat ball was packed with spices; tasted tons of black pepper. Same nice bread and veggies as the other sandwiches. B.B.Q. Beef: I was hoping this would be like the grilled pork, but in beef form. It actually tasted more like a big chunk of beef was grilled/smoked then cut into slices and covered with a BBQ sauce (more like Korean BBQ sauce than like Texas BBQ sauce). i wanted to try something new the other day for lunch, and I walked like 4-5 blocks all the way to china town, probably burning more calories then my lunch. So I had bbq pork combo here. After tax it was like $12, hm I thought it was kinda pricey, but then this is SF. It came with a Vietnamese ice coffee, the sandwich was pretty big, and the quality of the ingredients was really good. There was alot of chunky bbq pork meat, they have a smoky, and camalized- mildly sweet flavor that was really good. I forgot to tell them NO on the pickle veggie, but you know what, their pickle veggie was actually quite good too, it have a mild citricy, it wasn't hella sweet like some places, and it wasn't dripping wet that it would make your sandwich all soggy, cuz I also had to do a 4-5 blocks walk back to my work place to eat, and the sandwhich was not soggy at all, not even a little bit. I imagine they might have removed the pickle veggies from the brine, and dried them first before adding them to the sandwiches. the vietnamese coffee that came with the combo was also pretty good too, not too sweet, or too bitter, just right. my co worker and i thought the price was a bit high for a banh mi, but I thought, because the portion was huge, the quality of the ingredients was really good, and it also taste pretty top not, I thought this place deserves more visits. read more
