I don't know why it's taken me so long to write a review for this place - our weekly pizza resource for the past number of years (what is time anymore?). The pizza is, unsurprisingly, incredible. Ben's Shrooms is a favorite, but really any choice is a safe one. They're all good. Amazing gelato with varying flavors (also, seriously, never a dud, but I am partial to their mint chip), and WTF?! They also make delicious pasta dishes, too?!?. Not boring typical pizza house chicken parm (not hating on typical pizza house chicken parm, it definitely has its place), but seriously quality, delicious pasta dishes (pork ragu is amazing). Truly. This place is awesome - there used to be a run of the mill pizza place in this location and these guys took it over. Their pizza is loaded with fresh, tasty ingredients, they have at least five different kinds of gourmet options, and they have all kinds of other awesome accoutrements like home made gelato and artisan soda. I should have just walked right past and gone to Dominos Pizza down the road, First of all, Staff is friendly, but the pizza pie was horrible. Almost two years ago I checked this place out right after it opened and was not at all impressed. Fast forward two years and one global pandemic with a side of economic crisis: they have formed a partnership with the inimitable Sligo Pub, and it's the best thing to ever happen to Davis Square. (At least in 2020 anyway.) We got a slice of maple bacon pizza and a slice of pepperoni (all much better than our memory from last time), and a chicken kebab and a cauliflower kebab. The carrot ginger pickle slaw on the side was amazing. But really the magic is in the pairing with Sligo. Sligo keeps it real but can't handle your munchies. Dragon serves food but leaves you thirsty. Together all your needs are met, and as the munchies hit you, the food magically arrives, followed shortly by your next beer. Davis Square needs to make this arrangement permanent. read more

I really liked the slice I had recently, but what has brought me back are the skewers. I've tried just about all of the regulars and have enjoyed every one, with the shrimp at the top of my list. This is a fantastic place for a quick, inexpensive bite that's still really tasty. I have unusual dietary restrictions, but Dragon always has something I can eat. read more

Boy oh boy, do I hate to write this one. We ordered pizza from Dragon Pizza tonight. In particular, my wife handled the actual ordering. The pizza arrived late because the delivery person initially went to the wrong house. Right street, wrong town. The delay was exacerbated by the fact that he delivers by bike; so what ordinarily would have been a quick fix turned out to be a not-quite-quick fix. Given that the restaurant charges a $5 delivery fee, my wife decided not to tip any additional amount. (She might have also been a little hangry. That might have been exacerbated by our equally hangry four year old who was confused why the pizza wasn't there when the delivery person called.) As it turns out, they got the order wrong too, although she didn't know that when she decided not to tip. A short time later, my wife gets a text from an unknown number with a screen shot of an instagram post. The post had a picture of our receipt, complete with my wife's name and telephone number, and our address. "NO TIP" was scrawled in red ink across the check. The text of the post bemoaned her (putative) bad tipping behavior, and included a hashtag along the lines of #fooddeliveryisnotahumanright. The post was from the restaurant's IG account; it turns out, the delivery person is also a co-owner of the restaurant. I called the restaurant and asked him to either take the post down or at least redact our personal information. He refused. I said that such a post violated IG's terms of service. He flatly said "I don't care." He went on to say that if I came to the restaurant and left a tip, he'd take down the post. So that's that I guess. I would kiiiinda understand this petulance from an employee. Maybe not a very good employee, but it's within the realm of imagination. After all, maybe an employee doesn't care about the long term outlook of the business; they just care about the money they're leaving with in their pocket that night. But getting this from an owner of the business? From the owner's perspective, the playbook is simple when a mistake happens. Deliver a cold pizza because it took you two tries to get the right address? At the VERY least apologize for the mix-up. Most likely comp the pizza and (sincerely) message that the restaurant will do better, if the customer would give them another chance another night. [To be clear: I am not angling for a free pizza at this point. That ship has sailed.] You know what's NOT in the playbook? "Here's your cold pizza that wasn't quite what you ordered, now where's my tip?! No tip? Up you go on the wall of shame!" I hope other co-owners monitor the Yelp account. Other co-owners: get this guy some customer service training. For those Yelpers who have read this far, how was the pizza? Not bad. Not SUBLIME, but definitely not bad. I would have probably gone back or ordered again, were it not for this incident. Do better, Dragon Pizza. read more

Wow!! These guys certainly know how it's done. I recently moved from Brooklyn, so my standards are high and the pie I ordered last night was amazing! I got the three cheese and added homemade sausage. It was ready pretty quickly, and thankfully I live right around the block. As I was carrying my treasure home I could already smell the delicious pizza and a hint of wine from the sausage. The thin crust was perfectly cooked (I hate pizza places that burn the crust) sauce tasted fresh and there was plenty of cheese. And the pieces are big! I had two slices but i could see someone who eats less/ wasn't as hungry just having one. Considering this and the quality the price is well worth it. A plain cheese only costs $16. Specialty ones are a little pricier. This will definitely be my go-to pizza place whenever I can afford to get something other than a chain. read more

The product is overall unsurprisingly mediocre, something you could get from any neighborhood pizza joint, but at "an artesanal price". Using parmesan in the cheese blend made the pepperoni pie very salty. On the plus side, the operations worked pretty flawlessly (later evening online order prepared on time). read more

I journey down to New Haven Connecticut two times a year to go to Frank Pepe's. In my opinion, the mecca of all pizza places. Dragon Pizza is really good. All the guys and gals working behind the counter are really cool and friendly and the pizza is top-notch. One of the guys here has arms that are bigger than my legs. I love the fact that they are playing tapes. I'm probably going to bring my tape collection from the 80s down here and donate it. I was sad to see Cristo's go but excited when Dragon Pizza took over its spot in Davis Square. The pizza is high-quality and delicious. The crust is absolute perfection and the toppings are great, no matter what you choose. Some of the poor reviews on here are pretty misleading. Yeah, some speciality slices cost $5, but a typical cheese slice is $3.50. And it's WELL worth it. ( I mean, really, what were you expecting? $1 slices?! Your tastebuds won't thank your wallet on that one, that's for sure.) I ordered their classic ricotta and sausage pizza along with a specialty pizza of sausage, onions and peppers. I couldn't tell which one I loved more. If you are looking for classic, delicious pizza, look no further. Dragon Pizza is where you want to be. But if you are looking for $1 slice of pizza, feel free to roam around the garbage bins and pick yourself a cheap slice caked with grease and dirt. No judgement here. read more

This is my favorite tasting pizza in the area. Their meats must be hand sliced, because they don't use the typical perfectly-circular pepperoni or crumbly sausage. Their prices aren't low, but it's a nice treat and the pizzas are very large and generously topped with quality ingredients. read more

*~-~PIE RANKING~-~* 1. Sausage and ricotta. Too salty and has a slight sodium nitrate bite, but thoroughly addicting and luxurious. 2. Broccoli rabe. Wonderful flavor, crispy dry texture, bracing with chili pepper and bitter roasted vegetables. 3. Mushrooms. How can you not love wild mushroom pizza? Crispy and chewy assorted mushrooms, well balanced with cheese, awesome stuff. 4. Cheese. On the salty side but delicious. Order it. 5. Prosciutto. Excellent, indulgent and wonderful contrast in textures and flavors. 6. Sweet, Spicy, Savory. Not overly sweet at all: sweet potatoes are a mild respite from bites of sharp pickled onions and crackly dry crust. 7. Lemon chicken. The large chunks of preserved lemon are too intense and need to be picked apart and spread on the pie, or bitten into carefully. But when you do that, the result is a treat. Warning: only for lovers of bitter flavors. 8. Margherita. The milkiness of fresh mozzarella is lost here and the seasoning balance is a bit off. I wouldn't recommend it over cheese unless you crave basil. 9. Pepperoni. The aggressively salty cheese pizza is pushed over the edge by pepperoni and becomes unpleasant. 10. Maple bacon. Note: this is purely personal preference. I strongly dislike maple syrup flavored pizza. I would also prefer crispy griddled bacon to the bacon cubes on this pie. read more

The many 5-star reviews are misleading. Before going into specifics, I view this place as a last resort to grab a slice in a seedy Manhattan neighborhood at 2am. It will be filling but make you hate yourself afterwards. The rave reviews make me wonder how many relatives the owner has in Boston. Positives: delivery was fast, the pizza crust is decent, and the grilled cauliflower kabab was tasty. Negatives: the chicken kabob was gamey dark meat. Same for the chicken on the Chicken A La Gordon pizza. It was also sparsely distributed on the pizza. The lemon is a nice idea, but rinds are left on and we had to pull them off. We asked for broccoli to be added, but it wasn't. Simple menus can be nice sometimes, but in this case the result is not enough decent options. The prices are reasonable for salads and kabobs (portions are small though), but whole pizzas are significantly overpriced. read more

I don't get it. The cheese blend has way too much parm and comes off salty. The sauce has to be too sweet to make up for the cheese blend. The crust is fine. It is unique and not for me, but it is fine. Maybe we made a mistake by trying to judge them on their cheese pie instead of some of the great looking toppings combos. Definitely the worst pizza in Davis Sq next to Mike's (at least for my tastes) this far. I guess I'm in the minority but this pizza tastes like a mouth full of Parmesan and nothing else. So if you absolutely LOVE your pizza as cheesy as cheesy can be, go for it. The dough was bland, and sauce reminded me of Papa Gino's. I don't get the rave reviews. Maybe I tried the wrong thing or caught them on a bad night? This wasn't even the best pizza in Davis, I'd rather have Flatbread or Oath. I got the pepperoni (red sauce) and added the "ben's shroom blend." They weren't very generous with the shrooms and they were undercooked, almost raw. The pepperoni on the other hand was overwhelming...or maybe it was just the combination of the pepperoni with something else...I'd thought maybe it was the zingy sauce but after reading other reviews here, it might just be too much parm. Salt overload! Then there's the crust...it was frankly tough. Not chewy, but actually tough. And with no crunch...maybe underdone but I don't know what they are shooting for. I would hope shoe-leather isn't it. BTW there were 2 kinds of pepperoni on this pizza. They advertise it as having "VT artisanal roni". One kind was that, but the other kind, in large squares, I'm pretty sure was something else. It kind of seems like they are stretching their touted "VT artisanal roni" with something cheaper. This is pretty minor, but I'm also not real keen on their cutting it into 6 enormous slices rather than the standard 8. read more
