I told the nail tech and they said to try Zen Builder. I was told it creates a buffer between your nail beds and the gel so when they change color it doesn't ruin your nail beds. Genius. I loved my pedicure and manicure. It was sweet of them to offer complimentary water, tea, coffee, and soda. Hidden little gem! We've walked by for years, even been to the bar next door (Nu Rays), and somehow didn't notice this shop. Called yesterday for mani/pedi and was given an appointment time. When I arrived, my technician (owner?) Holly, was ready for me and we got started. She was super nice, friendly, easy to chat with, and she listened to what I wanted (even if it wasn't the best idea for color combination, haha). I wanted sparkles over a white base... bigger sparkles for my toes versus smaller sparkles/more like shimmer for my fingernails. I got gel polish on my fingernails and just regular polish on my toes. Both came out cute & clean... but Holly's choice of greenish/Mermaid shimmer turned out better than what I chose for my toes. Pedi is basic so if you have a REAL need for scrubbing & callous removal, not sure if they get down & dirty. Mine was pretty gentle & quick, but I did say that I was on a time crunch so maybe that had an impact. Overall, really good experience and would definitely be back for nails & conversation. read more

Absolutely the worst business in town. She took advantage of my 14 year old who went to get her nails done after school preparing for the Spring Dance at the JR Highi. She returned home crying. She was afraid to speak up and hurt the woman's feelings. So she said she liked them, paid her $68 and gave her a tip out of obligation. It was too late for me to go down that night so I went the next day after work. When I demanded the money back she refused and tried to tell me that's what my daughter wanted. She argued so much with me and then told me she would only talk to my daughter. So I left, picked her up at her dads house and brought her back in there. This grown woman began repeating "you said you liked them". My daughter showed her the new nails she had done and said "but I didn't like them". She wouldn't listen to either of us and at some point began speaking none sense, she refused to apologize or offer a solution and wouldn't refund the money. She totally hustled a 14 year old out of her babysitting money and didn't care one bit. Look at the photos and tell me those look good... you would have to lie. Hands down the worst I have ever seen. My gel manicure is peeling at the bottom after a week. They prefer payment via Venmo or zelle with no note attached to the payment so they don't get tracked as a business. My first time at dragon nails, I made an appointment for 2:00 but they wrote me down for 3:00 so when I showed up at 2, they were confused but they took me in anyway. The place is really small but that's fine with me. My plan was to get an ombre nail style with my ring fingers black glitter, I had pictures of exactly what I wanted but they couldn't do it. Neither of them knew how to do an ombre nail nor did they have black glitter. They had slightly glittery black polish. So I ended up having to settle for something they knew how to do. Light purple nails with black tips, and black ring fingernails with silver glitter polish. My nails are beautiful and they did a great job, the service was good and the people were nice but I was disappointed that I couldn't get the nails I wanted and had to pay $40 and settle for something that I did not really want. read more

I had my nails done during the lock down. I was a Manicurist for 17 years so I'm very particular and most likely the hardest to please. I took 3 of my Grand Daughters to get our nails done and it wasn't good. My teenage girls weren't happy with their nails at all. I believe shaping nails and polishing is an art. And if done with great technique nails can look natural and beautiful. However this was not the case. As far as my nails were the not good. I shaped them myself prior to going but her polishing was just horrible. They sure were happy we were there because I gave them close to 200 bucks with tip. 2 full sets, 1 gel manicure which chipped within 3 days. And a little girls Mani/Pedi. I tried 2 or 3 other nail salons in Martinez before settling into a regular routine at Dragon Nails, and I feel lucky to have found Kevin and Holly's little place downtown. I've been getting gel manicures every 3 weeks and pedicures once a month for the past year plus, and this husband-and-wife team is wonderful. Holly is an absolute sweetheart, and she does an excellent job with my nails. I was initially concerned that her collection of gel polishes wasn't especially large, but she has gradually added new colors and options over the past few months. Minus one star because it's not as luxurious or well-appointed with fancy lights/equipment, music, tv's or current magazines as other salons I've been to. I've gotten used to the quietness in the salon - it sometimes relaxes me to the point that I've nearly fallen asleep - but it would be great to have some background music someday. In the meantime, I won't go anywhere else for top-notch customer service! read more

My first pedicure experience here was an awesome one. I called first to make an appointment and arrived on time. I only had to wait a few minutes while they finished the current customers. The place is in downtown Martinez so keep that in mind; however, it's clean and I care more about that rather than ambiance. The massage chair is one of the better I've been in as I left feeling that I actually had a massage...so Kudos! Since this is a smaller place I felt that I got more personal attention than one of the more trendy shops I usually visit. This husband and wife team does a great job on mani/pedi and don't overcharge you like most places in the area! They even accommodated the 2 of us as they were closing up their shop. The people that run the salon are pleasant to deal with however that does not mean they know what they are doing. I had my nails done as well as got an eyebrow waxing. The eyebrow waxing was one of the worst experiences ever, I'm about to have one of the most important moments of my life and I explain this to them and she butchered one of my eyebrows to a point where I had to get some additional professional services.
